Last October I asked, “what did happen to Korleone Young?”“Where in the world is Korleone Young?” After a bit of poking around, I discovered that while Detroit’s former second-round pick hasn’t been able to return to the NBA he’s had no trouble earning paychecks from basketball, playing everywhere from Australia, China, Russia and everywhere in between.
Well, add another notch “everywhere in between” — Young has just signed with Bnei Hasharon, an Israeli team that plays in the same league as the more famous Maccabi Tel Aviv. Sadly, though, Young’s reputation precedes him even on the other side of the ocean — the article by the Israeli news source Haaretz.com announcing his signing focuses almost entirely on his status as one of the NBA’s most well-known failed prep-to-pros projects instead of about what kind of player he is or what his projected role will be with his new team.
Nevertheless, it’s good to hear he’s still playing ball.

Bring Korleon Young back to the NBA He could of been one of the best Players who came out of High School if someone ould of just gave him a chance.Korleon Young will bee the next riseing star in the NBA put on the right team. Korleon Young can and he will lead a team to victory every nitght he is still the best High school player that came out of High School in my eyes.
Man, yall some haters! I can see that the guy who wrote this was a nobody in school and in life! No fame, no status in or around his peers! Most writers are haters who couldn’t do $hit in school or had no talent! Yall need to embrace a solider like KY! Do what he did then talk…..thought so!! You can’t! Quit MauthaFuckin Hatin!
I played with Korleon in the 97-98 season at Hargrave Military Academy. And I was very impressed with his athleticism as far as jumping and finishing takes to the basket. Dribbling and shooting on the other hand were not his strong points but he could still hold his own in all aspects of the game. I remember when Korleon announced he was going to the NBA right out of high school. All of team mates including myself thought this was a horrible idea. But I knew he was going to do it because everytime a college coach or scout would come to visit Korleon he would treat them like complete crap. Not to mention that he would treat the team like crap and the coaching staff. He basically tried to run our unorganized team because our coach was to much of a wimp to do anything. Korleon is probably the biggest waist of talent i have every played with or against. If he did try and fight everybody who lightly fouled him and had a better attitude twoard the peoiple who tried to help him out he may have very well made it to the NBA. My guess is that Detroit found he was not coachable and didnt need a player like that. Regardless what you have heard from the press about Korleon Young, he is not somebody a coach would want on his team. I would much rather have somebody less talented and more coachable playing for me. The NBA is much better off without him.
Korleone did have shortcomings relative to his basketball skills. As written above, he also had temper issues and was stubborn. Unfortunate for him, his advisors and inner-circle were not suited to assist him in his development.
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with him (and getting to know him to some degree) along with JaRon Rush and Corey Maggette at a basketball camp at Santa Barbara California. All three had great potential; but it is potential which, gets coach’s fired.
Corey was the only one to realize some level of basketball success and financial reward. The one thing Corey did/does have is a stronger family support system. The key for Corey was/is his father was in the home (but that is another story).
I think about these young men often. Hopefully Korleone and JaRon are well, and are maximizing their respective potential.
