Can the Pistons close out 2006 with a win?

Amare Stoudemire

Chauncey Billups is out, Flip Murray is in. And as if replacing the team’s captain wasn’t hard enough, Murray will be going up against reigning two-time MVP Steve Nash.

The Suns lead the NBA with 111.3 points per game, but they also give up 104. The last thing the Pistons will want to do is turn this into a track meet, but there should be at least a few opportunities for some easy scores. Amare Stoudemire is pictured above, but the guy I’ll be paying extra attention to is Shawn Marion. Watch this guy tonight, then ask yourself, why can’t Tayshaun Prince put up numbers like that? I know the points are a function of the team’s pace, but how about the blocks and rebounds?

Ugh. They just showed Chauncey Billups wearing street clothes. I’m feeling ill. In any case, the ball just tipped — the game is also being shown on NBA TV, for anyone not in Detroit. As usual, leave any game thoughts in the comments.

And Happy New Year!

I nominate Flip for DPOY. He can’t follow his man over one f-ing screen ! No amount of playing time is going to make this guy stop sucking on defense. Even if he drops 20 he’ll just give it up on the other end.

Sheed… stop shooting 3s, and Tay needs to be more aggressive.

How about Thumbs? Nice spin move, and a sweet outlet to Sheed. He’s playing well. He should start the 3rd.

Ree, you were not the only one. Try writing a recap after gritting your teeth for 46 straight minutes.

ALL PISTONS FANS NEED TO BE PATIENT INJURIES ARE PART OF THE GAME! IT’S A VERY LONG SEASON, AND WE HAVE TO TAKE THE UP’S AND DOWN’S WITH A GRAIN OF SALT? IT’S ARE KARMA TO HAVE THE TEAM THAT WE HAVE! WE WILL BE ALRIGHT COME PLAYOFF TIME THIS TEAM NEEDS TO GO THRU SOME ADVERSITY SO THEY CAN GROW AS A TEAM!? IF ANYONE DOESN’T THINK SO THEY NEED TO CHANT NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO

Capel, buddy, I enjoy your words of optimism, I really do. Sometimes we can tend to get a bit negative in here and you are right behind us to give us a loving push. But for pete’s sake, guy, is your caps lock broken or what?

The good thing here is that they stayed close with a developing Suns team despite their injuries (Chauncey, Rasheed, various other beat up guys.)

I think they did a good job and stayed in the game well. Maybe they didn’t play the proverbial “Pistons Basketball,” whatever that is, but they didn’t get crushed either. I thought there was a solid effort from Rip and Carlos Delfino. Others lacked (Rasheed, Flip Murray)

I think they just lost the 3-point shootout (7% vs. 41%) and that cost the game. If Rasheed would have hit a couple of his, it would have been a win. Which, on a normal day, would have happened. It’s jsut another day, some more play for the bench, some more rest for Chauncey.

Yeah, important part is the bench is developing. I hope this continues all year. I’ve not been too impressed with any of our starters this season (excepting Rip…and Nazr, but he doesn’t really count), so getting them as much rest as possible before April will hopefully guarantee their A game.

And I’m glad that the Mavericks and Spurs and Suns are putting together win streaks of 10, 8, 15, what have you, because it means the Pistons will be the underdogs, no matter what. When they make the Finals, no matter who they’re up against (even if it’s the Lakers), they won’t be the favorites to win. And that’ll give ‘em that “chip on the shoulder” edge they need to win.

Rip and Delfino had another solid game. Flip Murray did alright second half and I would like to congratulate him on raising his trade value. And Sheed needs to put the 3 point trigger on safety right now, since he’s just missing and missing.

ROCKY I’VE BEEN A PISTONS SINCE 1958 WHEN THEY WERE VERY BAD,THEY HAD PLAYERS LIKE KEVIN LOUGHERY RAY SCOTT BAILEY HOWELL DON OHL WALTER DUKES JOHN TRESVANT JOE STRAWDER EDDIE MILES JOHN BARNHILL TOM VAN ARSDALE ERIC MONEY DAVE BING OTTO MOORE DARRALL IMHOFF WILLIE NORWOOD JOHN MENELT GEORGE TRAPP HOWARD PORTER BOb LANIER DAVE DEBUSSCHERE DON ADAMS AND CURTIS ROWE. Im not angry because of the loss. i am patient. i just dont like it when we lose WHILE playin bad basketball. if we were tryin the whole damn game, its different but give me a break. when there’s only 2 starters tryin out there its kinda annoyin and thats what leads to anger.

they have a couple of days rest. Nooch is next, hopefully the rest of the team will show up.

  11. 11 Rocky Cliffs

yeah, if we can’t win with half their team gone, we’re in trouble.

  12. 12 FRED W. CAPEL
