I’m already kind of bored with the Flip Murray dunk (not really, I could watch that thing for hours), but this was the first “view from the stands” video that I’ve seen. So enjoy. Hopefully Murray gets a chance to top it tonight (in garbage time with the Pistons up big, natch). In lieu of an actual preview, let me direct your attention to what I wrote on the FanHouse:
Ignore the scores of the first two games. They mean nothing. Instead, look at what happened the last two in Chicago: the Bulls essentially owned the Pistons for three of the last four halves of basketball, with the last 24 minutes of Game 3 being the only thing preventing this series from being tied up. That should be a surprising realization for casual observers who have bought into the description of this series being out and out dominated by Detroit.
I believe every word of it, too. Most of us were expecting a long series, and just because the Pistons won the first three games doesn’t mean it can’t still happen. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t, though. Game 5 tips off at 8pm on TNT — leave your thoughts in the comments.

This is starting out like game 3. The Pistons better start hitting some shots. The bulls are shooting the lights out.
man this pathetic. The pistons can play better than this. Someone tell Rip and Dice they dont have to drive everytime they touch the ball. And is anyone else getting tired of the zone?
This is embarrassing. Detroit is playing with no energy, and Chicago is having its way on both ends.
I was worried about this game, and now my concerns are being realized.
Hope they can finish out the first half with something decent
just like last year against cleveland. this may even be worse. does the “p” in “p.latch” stand for “prophet”?
i’m going to go ahead and blame dre bly. stinking up the gym with loser juice.
Does Hinrich have the worst poise on the entire Bulls squad?
Hinrich should win an oscar. That boy is on his back more than…..well you get what I mean. This IS pathetic. Well I hope that Flip Sauders lights a fire underneath these guys. Well history tells me that chicago can’t keep up the hot shooting. The good thing is even though Chicago is shooting 73% the Pistons are not THAT far behind them. They need to step up their defense intensity and start knocking down some shots. I am a long ways from be panicked. The Pistons have been here before. The second half will be alot different than the first. At least we have the wings to watch also.
WTF!!!! Why that tech on Sheed? I do not get it. I’m hoping the Bulls will cool off, but we need to heat up. This sucks!
I am starting to feel nauseated.
Some rough calls against Detroit
- Hinrich flop draws Chauncey’s 4th
- Hunter plays tight defense, gets a strip, called for the foul
- Webber plays clean defense on Gordon, forces a tough shot, bailout call WAY late
Completely stalls Detroit’s run and lets the Bulls pull away again
Absolutely atrocious
18 points with your starting PG on the bench is hard to make up. I f’ing hate this game right now. I’ll be taking my aggression out on some softballs later tonight.
WTF Pistons?!? You look completely discombobulated!
(not that is has anything at all to do with the officiating) /sarcasm
here’s hoping the bulls don’t shoot 70% in game 6 :-/
Ahhh this game is not even worth watching anymore…if anyone is interested the Transporter is coming on FX, always has been one of my favorite movies. Whatever though, the Pistons make it so hard to like them sometimes…Go Tigers.
Okay who kidnapped the Pistons?? This is not the same team that played the first 3 games. The bulls just look quicker. They are hitting their shots and for some reason the Pistons can’t do anything about that. CB has 4 fouls. Prince finally woke up. Sheed isn’t doing anything…except getting t’d up. This is a HUGE hill to climb in the 4th quarter. But they can do it. OH by the way…wings up 2- 0.
Pistons are gay today.
Anyhow, what happened to our D? I know their shots are falling but still…
This better not be a repeat of last year’s second round series. I still remember the look of disbelief on Dyess’ face. Anyhow, we have to come out with guns blazing in Game 6.
Same old story huh? They told us they learned their lesson, they told us they wouldn’t let teams extend them unnecessarily this year. When they were acting all confident after Game 4, like “no big deal, we’ll just go home and beat them,” I wasn’t sure if they were confident for good reason or not. I guess now we know.
The Red Wings have won 11 straight closeout games, an all-time NHL record. Maybe the Pistons could learn something from them.
Wow, the Pistons are making me sick. This is ridiculous. Every time people start talking good about them, they blow it. They perpetually play well only on a “lack of respect.” Well, no one’s going to respect them now, so they’ll probably win Game 6. Just ridiculous.
hate this team. so frustrating.
The Bulls beat fair and square. Those foul calls on Billups were right and all his fault anyway. Anyways, hopefully my prediction holds and we beat them in 6.
Waiting to see which Pistons team shows up any given night is really starting to get old, fast! After Game 4, the Pistons should have had all the motivation they needed. They were at home, a chance to close out the series, and slam the door on any hope the Bulls may have had after their win. But instead they came out flat, coupled with the Bulls shooting over 70% and the entire game was just depressing.
We expect nothing less than a championship with these Pistons. How they come out in Game 6 will tell us a lot about who this team really is and what they are capable of. Let’s hope they finally feel the pressure.
If not for their epic collapse in Game 3, this would have been three straight blowouts by the Bulls. It seems clear to me that they are the better team at this point. It’ll come down to Game 7…
Postgame thoughts: These are the Pistons. They can’t completely change their stripes. I recall seeing performances against Indiana and New Jersey back in ‘04 that looked like this. This particular group has trouble getting motivated when they know they can beat a team. Also, four straight conference final appearances tend to make the first couple of rounds seems tedious. This is a great close-out team and they will get serious in Game 6, knowing they can’t let this come down to a Game 7, where “anything can happen,” and usually does.
The real risk is that someone gets injured in a game that shouldn’t have been necessary. But that’s what this team does, just as Rip famously chanted two years ago. That’s part of the deal: we get a contender, year in and year out, and have to suffer through their learning curve. What are they learning: that opportunities for a title are hard to come by. They won in 2004 too easily, in a way. But, hey, they went up 3-0 … it’s a start. The window isn’t closed. And if they can get to the the CF again, not even LeBron can keep them from playing well into June.
Go PISTONS!
This was really hard to watch, but no team wins a title without facing some adversity. Pistons, here’s your first dose of adversity. I sincerely hope you can overcome it on Thursday night. I’d like to enjoy my weekend, thank you very much, not think about a fucking Game 7 on Monday!
I’ve never watched Detroit play like this . . . in person. What an utter letdown.
Hey Flip Saunders . . . when the opponent’s hitting their shot from the outside, over and over, it’s best to scrap a zone. You leave guys open, and when Detroit gives cushions like they did . . . it’s like shooting jumpers in practice.
They made Scott Skiles look like a genius . . . that’s sad.
I am not looking forward to getting on tomorrow and seeing P. Latch’s smug comments about how the Bulls are the better team, and how they’ll be the ONLY team in the ENTIRE history of the NBA to come back from an 0-3 deficit. It’s almost like last year, where we had the Cleveland fans just going, “WITNESSSSSSSSSSSSSS” when they went up 3-2 and then the Heat fans going, “DWADE IS THE BEST PLAYR EVR!!!!!!!!!!!!!” when they were winning. Sigh.
I did say Pistons in six, didn’t I? I hold true to that.
” I’ll be taking my aggression out on some softballs later tonight.”
Let’s keep your sex life out of this.
Also, give Maxiell more of McDyess’ and Webers’ playing time. Neither are doing squat.
Hey, if this team drops this series to Chicago, they won’t be selling out games, no matter how low they go with prices. There wouldn’t be an excuse for it.
Thanks LA Mike, 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs tonight. No big flies, but I got the job done, unlike a certain team in home whites.
I really don’t have anything to offer. It is hard to watch a team shoot over a zone and then go down to the other end of the court and hound you on D. If they don’t close it out on Thursday, I’d be surprised.
One more thing…LET’S GO NETS!!!!
