Pistons included in Grant Hill rumors

USA TODAY: Could a return to Detroit be in [Grant Hill’s] future? “I’m keeping myself open,” Hill says. “I’m going to see what Orlando’s doing but if people come knocking, I’m going to listen. I’m still trying to figure it all out.”

Better triple-check those ankles, of which he had some sort of cyst problem this year, before Detroit inks this guy to even a minimum deal, otherwise Tayshaun’s direct sub will be a Dupree-level when Grant can’t even stay healthy from the bench.

are you kidding me? Grant Hill would be a solid option off the bench, aside from Carlos Delfino. All the wear and tear on his ankle would be minimal considering he wouldn’t be putting a lot of minutes on it.

    What are you smoking Sauce?

What you aren’t smoking, and I don’t want any.

Sauce, who do the Pistons have now that can backup Richard Hamilton? I’m not saying Hill is a SG, but Delfino is, and if Tayshaun or Rip gets hurt they’ll be left with Flip Murray or Delfino and noone else.

Why not take Hill at the minimum? He’s not worth the mid-level exception.

I’d rather see Joe pay another mid-20s spare part to eat up time off the bench than to sit through a guy who’s just as likely to miss 40 games as he is to contribute for 100 at reduced minutes. In 6 seasons with Orlando, Grant averaged 33.3 games played in the regular season. That’s not a healthy guy.

Lindsey Hunter’s been like that the last 2 years. Antonio McDyess is one moderate injury away from being finished. Chris Webber is the same.

Those guys may or may not return, but these guys are the most likely guys you keep talking about that can’t create shots for themselves anymore.

It’s not a mystery to me why Antonio’s production slipped in the playoffs to sub-40-percent from the floor . . . more often than not, that guy pulled up for a fade jumper instead of going aggressive or at least backing into the paint to look for a closer shot or another guy to pass. Part of that is Flip-Finesse, but the other part is Antonio and the stoppage of breath everyone has in Detroit who pays attention when the guy comes up ginger from a collision.

Grant Hill, like Webber, have been starters anywhere they’ve been. Look how thrilled Chris was to get his minutes pulled in the post-season after he couldn’t put anything together for 2 straight games in Chicago. Grant’s got his mentality. It would be like asking Chauncey, Rip, Tayshaun, or Rasheed to come off the bench.

Getting Hill at the minimum would be enticing (especially since he can still get to the rim when it counts), but at this point I think the fans have to be nervous about any roster decision that mortgages the future by blocking a younger guy from playing and developing.
