Look, I don't want any of my posts to come off as a rant, but its somewhat disturbing when you simply toss of facts about Grant Hill that really aren't guarenteed or proven at all, and with a general "it's so obvious why can't you see it" throw. It seems JUST as obvious to me that he's not the answer and a nostalgic trip down memory lane ISN'T going to help Detroit. Plus, when you talk about guys being afraid to drive and settling for jumpers one of the players I MENTALLY picture is Hill. I mean, jeeze, Jerry Stackhouse is available why don't we try and get him too and maybe we can be Golden State next year.

I think he's shot, you think he's the answer. We'll have to agree to disagree, though again if Stien is right it doesn't matter ANYWAYS because he's headed to Phoenix for the veteran minimum.

Either way I'm sorry I snapped, I just don't understand why you think the Hill situation is so obvious. The only thing that's obvious to me is that Grant Hill hasn't played a full season in like 7 years, he's 35 years old and he's no longer interested in taking contact.

Phoenix should love him.

Here Boney:

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/grant_hill/career_stats.html

See the part where it says 2006, and it says 65 games played and 64 games started? There are 82 in a season incase you were wondering and no Orlando was not in a position to "rest guys down the stretch". And that Boney WAS HIS BEST YEAR SINCE LEAVING US. Gimme a break.

Which one of us wasn't watching last year?

Speaking of last year, or rather last playoffs what exactly was it about Grant Hill's 15 points per game that "held the team together" smart guy? Was it the game he gave way to Hedo Turkoglu and they still lost?

Please, come harder next time, much harder.

Done with this.

umm, I wasn't saying that Hill was going to provide instant offense. All I was implying was about my "steady offense" comment was that when you have him come in, unlike Delfino, he will not cause the offense to be stagnant, therefore, most would refer to it as "steady", as is, possibly won't miss too much of a beat.

Hill isn't going to settle for perimeter jumpshots like Delfino. Hill isn't going to live at the 3 point line like MoPete.

Your comments regarding an ankle are those of someone who didn't watch the NBA last season and saw how he kept the young Orlando team together long enough to keep them out of the lottery. No, he's not the long term answer at SF. No, he's not the Grant Hill from 2000 or whenever I supposedly watched the NBA last. Yes, he is a veteran minimum player stop-gap-1-year-rental to bridge the years between Delfino and hopefully young Amir Johnson without causing this team to absolutely have no depth. Do I want Hill? Not really. Do I want MoPete at the MLE? Not at the risk of losing Amir. Who makes the most sense at SF for what DET needs? Hill.

But, I could be wrong. I just hope the rumor of Rashard Lewis S&T for Rip Hamilton and a couple of basketballs is true. It'll be about time to bring some slashing to the rim to the Palace. But then again, the last time I watched the NBA was in 2000.

130+ comments? Wow. Maybe I should have guest bloggers more often. Many thanks to PostmanE for helping a guy out, and even more thanks to you guys for coming through with such intelligent conversation.

Also, apologies to anyone who commented over the weekend but didn't have their remarks posted until now. Due to how first-time commenters (as well as comments containing multiple links) are moderated, they were sitting in a queue until I got back on Sunday afternoon.

I like Matt Barnes. A lot. Hes never going to be an NBA all-star, or maybe even a dependable starter for a championship caliber team. With that said, the guy plays with more heart than our entire team combined. His story and enthusiasm is great.

Remember what it was like when our players (other than McDyess and Sheed) were upset about losing?

No, you get one ankle and a guy on cruise control.

You can say it as forcefully as you like, Hill isn't the right call. Now he MAY be the call Detroit makes (though word is he's already a Sun according to Stein) but yelling "You bring in XXXX you get steady offence for 48 mins of the game" about a dude with Hill's age and injury history doesn't make it true. It just makes you look like someone who hasn't watched the NBA since 2000.

Welcome to the club of having an opinion.

I don't understand the fascination with Matt Barnes. He has a halfway solid postseason and everyone crowns him as "the guy" to back up Tayshaun? Isn't it funny how noone heard of this clown before the playoffs? He hit a couple of clutch 3s in an offensive scheme you'd see in a 5 on 5 pickup game at your local YMCA. If you would have looked hard enough, I'm sure you could have seen a 5'7 over the hill jewish guy playing "skins" on the court with his kneepads and rec-spec goggles burying 3s for Golden State against Dallas... jesus people, don't be so gullible.

Matt Barnes is not the answer. Arron Afflalo is not the answer as the full time backup at SF. You bring in Hill, you get steady offense all 48 minutes of the game, rather than random 3s and shaky defense with Barnes.

*Sighs*... well so much for the new era of fiscal responsibility in the NBA. I think we can all pretty much give up on any of the "name" players we've been floating around here as of now. At these prices, I don't want Joe to sign ANYONE:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922663

5 a year for Luke Walton? Your kidding me right?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2922597

6 a year for Jason Kapono? What is this gangly white dudes get paid day?

I understand day one deals are kinda inflated, and I KNEW NJ would be dumb enough to pay crazy money for Carter but this........? What's next throwing the MLE at Paul Shirley?

Have I mentioned this is gonna be a long offseason?

6 a year for Jason Kapono? What is this gangly white dudes get paid day?

I understand day one deals are kinda inflated, and I KNEW NJ would be dumb enough to pay crazy money for Carter but this……..? What’s next throwing the MLE at Paul Shirley?

Have I mentioned this is gonna be a long offseason?

I don't think Wallace is a realistic option because from what I gather he wants to "get paid"... which is why he's probably not staying with the Cats. I'm pretty sure he isn't going to get it, but 20 bucks his agent is talking Adrei Krilenko type money. That alone will probably keep the Pistons from window shopping on the guy, plus as already mentioned I'm not exactly seeing why he'd want to back up Tay.

Boney, I'm inclined to agree with you on Acker. It's not so much that I don't believe in his talent, I'm just pretty much sure his opportunity in Detroit just ran out. Personally I've never really considered Blaylock to be that much of a prospect anyways.

As for Affalo at SF, fwiw that really wasn't my point at all to be honest. I was merely pointing out what might happen if both guys Detroit drafted in the first round work out. The fact is statistically neither one is guarenteed to produce much because of where they were drafted (non lottery picks). I was theorizing that Dumars could be taking two shots at filling the backup SG position and intended to address SF in FA. Affalo's height and defensive prowess make him at least a POSSIBLE fit for the modern swingman position in today's NBA (2/3) and in theory he could earn some mins there even if Stuckey worked out. I mean best case scenario? They both work out and Stuckey is such a great ball handler he moves to PG full time. Just don't count on it.

As for C, no real clue what the plan is there unles Joe D plans to beat Sheed with a brick until he agrees to spend more time at the 5 per game. I'm still not sure Mohammed is worthless, I just know he's not a 5 million dollar starting center.
