David Stern has issued a gag order preventing anyone under the NBA’s umbrella from speaking about Tim Donaghy. Bill Laimbeer reacts, with my added emphasis to highlight his awesomeness. From the New York Post:
The crisis is so deep Stern has placed a gag order on NBA coaches and GMs. It’s even trickled down to the WNBA.
Former NBA player and outspoken Detroit Shock coach Bill Laimbeer, who faces the Liberty in the playoffs Friday, told The Post, “You’re not going to get me in the middle of that one. David Stern comes down with his big, old super gag order like ‘Aaargh.’ I’m not going to put my foot into something like that. That’s crazy. Maybe I would comment on it, but my job is the preservation of everything and I’m not going to get in the middle of that one.”
That’s right: the preservation of everything. Do not underestimate the responsibilities of a WNBA coach.
I wonder why it’s necessary. Stern’s a lawyer, and the NBA retains a slew of them, so there’s surely some reasoning behind it. Is there a reason cited for this, that anyone knows of? Or was this passed down from on-high?
It’s a pre-emptive attempt to keep the Mark Cubans of the world from using this incident to complain about officiating. I can see the reason for the rule. There would be a lot of nastiness pretty quickly, and the NBA does need the fair and honest refs it has.
Yeesh, as if you had to treat the refs with kids’ gloves before…
Still, you know someone’s going to violate this.
I hope someone does violate this for the sole reason that David Stern is a dick and deserves blue balls.

Thank goodness someone has the job of the preservation of everything … I was beginning to think that was nobody’s responsibility.
I think this needs to be made into a DBB original throwback t-shirt. You could use this image (http://www.nba.com/media/laimbeer_1990_320.jpg) with a caption like, “I’M PRESERVING YOU DAVID STERN!”
laimbeer is one of the most underrated person in detroit sports. his success with the shock should get more pub, it really is too bad they don’t which is shocking kind of since bball, especially girls hoops, is very popular in the area. o well, ill continue to be one of the guys who watches them on tv when i can.
