A round-up of what you could’ve been reading this weekend instead of a stale DBB:

In certain matchups against some of the league’s bigger centers, Detroit’s undersized frontcourt may be exposed. That’s where Mohammed will prove useful, taking much of the abuse to keep the rest of the big men fresh. But aside from those situations, starting Wallace and McDyess will allow the Pistons to keep their best players on the court more often, which makes a lot more sense than giving their one true center, who may only be the fifth-best big man on the roster, a starting job simply for the sake of convention.

- ESPN’s Marc Stein thinks the Pistons did more to help their fortunes this summer than every Eastern Conference team that failed to trade for Kevin Garnett.
- Not surprisingly, Only the Bulls thinks Marc Stein is full of crap, which isn’t a surprise: it’s easy for those unfamiliar with the majesty/destruction of Johnson/Maxiell to understate their projected impact this year. Things will be much more clear in a couple of months.

- Carlos Delfino is in a better place.

Picking the Celtics is such a hype-generated move. Picking the Celtics is like the FOX crew picking the Lions today. I just don’t get why everyone jumps to conclusions in these situations. No one really takes the time to evaluate. Doc Rivers has never gotten out of the first round. Remember his colossal collapse in 2003 when McGrady finally made it to the second round? Or not.
The big 3 scenario doesn’t work. It hasn’t worked for New Jersey, whose trio is clearly inferior to Boston’s, but it’s not like New Jersey’s big 3 has even kept them in contention in the “lowly” East. I doubt that Boston’s big 3 cements them as the East’s favorite. I can accept the 46% who’ve got the Cavaliers or Bulls. I don’t agree with them, but those teams have made solid playoff runs and they’re loaded with youth and (now) playoff experience. The Celtics haven’t done anything and if any of their big 3 goes down for more than a game or two, that’s it for Boston.
I know it’s pretty tasteless to quote your own post on a blog a month and a half later but I honestly feel EXACTLY the same way about the Celtics as I did August 6th:

Really absolutely NOTHING has changed since then. The Celtics remain a freaking amazing NBA Live 08 team and nothing more. I’m mildly worried that if ALL the stars line up just right they could win the East. This is however the NBA, and all the stars NEVER line up completely right in the NBA so it’s just not going to happen… 3rd seed, possibly 4th if Toronto improves as much as their age dictates they should.

I’ve always wondered why a bunch of stars don’t get together and say, “Hey, let’s all go to !” Can they do that? What if they all said they would take the minimum salary just to stack their team? I’d totally do that if I had made millions from age 23 to 30 and wanted to win a championship.
Um, that was supposed to say, “Let’s all go to team x!” but with pointy brackets around it. I guess that format doesn’t translate well into blog-speak.
the players might be willing to do that, but their agents wouldn’t let them!
Don’t get me wrong, I am a full subscriber to Maxiell’s baby eating abilities.
I feel like all the really super-duper fans all got together and said: “Hey, let’s all support the best team in the league so we can win a championship!”
Less than a week to training camp.
can’t wait for camp to open! when and where can i purchase some rodney stuckey merch? i have no idea why i have this overwhelming optimism for the season. i’m assuming it’s the promise of youth.
i think the reason y everyone is soo excited about this upcoming season is because everyone thinks:
-we got probably one of the best player in the draft
-Sheed i believe has a new attitude(by slimming down), and i think flip and sheed r on the same page
-Tay and Chauncey are working out this summer and also trying to up their game
-Joe D. got Jarvis so flip can reduce tay’s time
-Everyone is now counting on different teams to win the east except the Pistons (which i think is pretty good because we can now go prove to all those haters ;D)
