This game is one of the most clearly underrated games because it was largely panned due to the fact that everyone outside of Detroit hated Bill Laimbeer.

They hated him so much to the point that when ESPN announced his retirement, I remember a resounding cacophany of cheers at this news. I could hear the celebration from Chicago. Almost every interview on TV from outsiders seemed to end with, "man, I hate that guy."

Therefore, when a halfway decent game at its time was released with his endorsement, it clearly was not accepted like Bill was not accepted.

I loved the crap out of that game. Beating people senseless was the most enjoyable part of that game besides building a team of Laimbeers. My friends and I would sit there and play each other regularly.

I don't think I have the game anymore, but if I did, I wouldn't mind a signed copy in a frame, either.

Bill rules.

You can get a copy of Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball on eBay right now (see link). It's $2.99 + $3 shipping (Rich Mahorn not included).

Matt,
Have you ever played BLCB? I have the game and occasionally will fire up the SNES and have at it. I actually really like it. The best way to describe it is part basketball, part hockey, set in the year 3000.

The more you win, the more money you earn. You use the money for purchasing better players to upgrade your team. Bill Laimbeer is the most skilled and therefore the most expensive player. So, the goal is to have a team full of Bill Laimbeers. CLASSIC!!

I think I may a copy of Combat Basketball for you but, you will have to get it autographed. Wonder how Bill would feel about signing it?

Early Christmas present my friend.
