Pistons host Hawks in opener

Unbelievable. It’s the first home game of the season and I ran out of time for a proper game preview post. In any case, head over to HOOPSWORLD for my pre-game, halftime and post-game thoughts from courtside.

Okay, who had Nazr in the “first tech of the year” pool?

Okay, who had Nazr in our “first tech of the season” pool? Anybody… Anybody… Didn’t think so.

Rip opens on fire - 7 of 8 at one point.

    Gah. Flip Murray killing me.

Murray is good at driving to the basket, not so good at point guard. Gotta love Sheed’s defense, everyone has been having trouble scoring on Sheed let alone getting past him without getting the ball picked off. I think they fired off to many jumpshots early on, I’d like to see some more post action. We a need a guy or two in the paint to spread out the defense.

We need to pick up on the defense also, they been getting a few to many open shots.

    Too close, 92-91.

A win’s a win, but my god can Flip Murray be any worse? The only thing he looks for is HIS shot. I know he had a game the other night, but those are few and far between. Heal soon Rodney.

I coined a nickname for our favorite DNP star today: JAMir.

…hopefully he gets some time against Tyrus Thomas on Thursday, I’d love to see him posterize that fool.

Well, that should silence the “are we better without Rip?” talk.

However, how can nobody have mentioned Maxiell’s night? 15 pts. 8 reb. and 4 blk. in 26 minutes with 1 foul and 1 TO? That’s a gorgeous statline. He was easily the most effective Piston player.

And if Jarvis Hayes keeps playing like this he’ll be sixth man of the year. He is seven games away from making a jackass out of me.

    We’re undefeated, people.

Haven’t seen the game yet but intend to watch it in full on DVR, and I was merely posing the Rip question because we won the first two games big. Rip comes back and we only win by one as well as put up our lowest point total so far on offense. Again, I have not seen this game, and it’s probably just a coincidence, but I’m just trying to have a dialog about how our team offense (and I suppose defense) runs with and without Rip and just trying to infuse a side that I hate to even entertain, let alone actually believe. Don’t confuse that for me saying I firmly (let alone even loosely) believe in such an idea.
