Pistons host Sixers

The Pistons host the 76ers tonight — ball tips at 8pm. No time for a proper preview, but be sure to check out HOOPSWORLD for the latest on Rasheed Wallace as well as some other pre-game thoughts. And, of course, leave your thoughts on the game in the comments.

I usually think we get the worst end of foul calls, but I think we been getting the benefit of the doubt so far. Could it have anything to do with Sheed not being on the court?

And the disturbing trend of the 2007-2008 Piston’s playing way the heck down vs weak opposition continues…. yay.

Anyone STILL want to tell me “it’s early in the season”?

I mean seriously I’m not saying this team is doomed but it REALLY isn’t a great sign that the team frequently seems to have trouble “showing up” for NBA basketball games.

    v frustrating

The lack of Sheeds defense is hurting us, he is probably one of the best big defenders out there.

Can we watch this game online?

I’m in Syracuse, NY visiting family for the Thanksgiving holiday. Listening to the game from nba.com audio league pass. Pretty cool…Pistons are up 11 in the 4th…on a 9-2 run and Maxiell just ate a baby.

Looks like Afflalo could be getting some of Murrays’ minutes soon.

Well a win’s a win but I can’t shake the feeling that the W was a given. I guess if your going to first halves off, teams like Philly are the ones to do it versus.

Either way I’ll take the W and the Nazr Mohammed playing decently sighting.

I don’t think the Pistons looked lackadaisical. They ran their offense well. Philly played good enough defense to force the extra pass (which the Pistons did). They just couldn’t knock down a shot. Not having Sheed hurt some.

On the other end, they made Philly work. There weren’t a lot of possessions either way. That’s why the score was so low and that’s why the Pistons never seemed to build a comfortable lead.

    Also…

Afflalo is already better than Delfino a few games into his career. A much smarter player. We should keep drafting All-Americans (I’m guessing we go small forward next year).

And I’d been screaming the last few games for Maxiell to face up more often. He finally put the baseline fadeaway to rest long enough to try it. He’s too athletic to handle when he does. He made some big shots.

    Hey PG4L, it’s early in the season. We’re 8-4.

IMO, the season starts Sunday against Utah, and continues Wednesday against Cleveland. Those are games to watch closely… If we do great, they are reason to celebrate. If we lose, there will be reason for scrutiny, complaining.

For now, this was our last chance to really watch the young’ns get their burn in a low-risk environment. What did we see tonight?

Aside from Afflalo, we had another great takeaway for this game, Nazr:

I didn’t see the game but from the boxscore it looks like Flip Saunders did a good job with the rotation and minutes and the team got solid bench play - especially from Afflalo. If a team has only 6 turnovers in an NBA game like the Pistons had last night they’re playing with focus.

Nice coaching, nice bench, nice win.

Finally decided to check out Hoopsworld for the first time- That’s a helluva pre-game, in-game, and post-game report you have over there. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but all this time I wondered why DBB was somewhat lacking premier Pistons content that I remember from last year… After checking out Hoopsworld, I easily see where you’ve been spending your time. I should’ve checked it out long ago, but you’re doing great work over there, and I’m sure certain your writing is going to get noticed.

wolf — thanks for the nice words, I appreciate it. I’m definitely spread a bit thinner than I was last year, but the trade-off (ie, getting access) is worth it, I hope. Ideally, I’d like to be able to do even more in terms of using the quotes/audio I collect, but (for reasons beyond my control) I can’t, at least for the time being.

Great Blog - I linked to you in my latest Jazz post. Utah will face the Pistons in Detroit this weekend. Looking forward to that battle, as it’s always a good one. Can’t believe the Pistons have only had 4 home games this year - the NBA has not been kind to them. They’ve started off well anyway. Cheers.

Rest up, Rip, if the reports that he has flu-like symptoms are exactly that.

Yikes. The Bulls lost to the Knicks. Go to blogabull.com for a few laughs.

This is a game we need to be full strength. If Wallace and Rip are out our chances aren’t to good.
