Weekend brings the Bucks and Nets

The Pistons have a busy weekend, playing the Bucks in Milwaukee tonight (Skeets says this one’s in the bag — Book it, baby!) before flying back overnight to host the Nets at the Palace on Sunday. As it happens, I have a busy weekend as well — I’m actually in Chicago, posting this from a hotel room overlooking Michigan Ave.

For actual, relevant Pistons news, I suggest hitting up the Pistons Newswire tab at the top of the page for direct links to the latest articles and posts from Need4Sheed, the Freep, DetNews, etc.

So, consider this your double-header game post / weekend open thread / whatever you want this to be. Have at it, and I’ll be disappointed if the comments don’t reach the century mark by the time I get back Sunday evening.

Stuckey, why do you tease us?
    Holy sh*&, Lindsey?

  10. 10 Kyl

on my fantasy team i have:
    Rip
    Dyess
    Maxy
    Hayes
    Nazr
    Stuckey

so seriously, watching Maxy run that baseline and slam it home like the baby eating monster he is just makes me shiver with joy and excitement. now if rip could remember that he plays better when he jumps straight up on his shots and tries to make them instead of trying to jump up horizontally to draw fouls.

  11. 11 Kyl

oh yeah, i got amir too, how could i forget amir?

and “Paraphernalia” from Miles Davis’ “Miles in the Sky” is great to listen to when the audio of the feed you’re watching is in chinese

  12. 12 Diablo

Tayshaun is just abusing the Bucks beyond the arch.

  13. 13 Kyl

seriously, i didn’t see the last game, but if this is a result of flip s. putting more motion in the offense then wow. it was amazing. every sing person on our team looked like straight up ballers. that was beautiful.

Nice game. Murray had 16 points on 7-9 shooting in the 4th, nice. They aired the game in China too, China witnessed of the Pistons ownage.

Big road trip is coming up
    No consolation

    Wind blows cold for Bucks.
Max and Dice stop shots with blocks.
    Nothing doing, Redd.

  18. 18 PistonsGirl4Life

I could totally get used to these 30+ point 4th quarters.

Seriously the Piston’s look motivated. No idea why really but whatever I’m not complaining. If they play like this in the spring? Nobody takes 4 in 7 on them. Not even SA.

  19. 19 kevin s.

Didn’t see the game. Curious as to how we limited Redd to six shots.

Positive notes for Maxiell. Only four fouls in the last three games, and 76% foul shooting over the last eight.

  20. 20 Rob G

Everything that has been asked of Max has been delivered. “Develop your jumpshot.” Ok! “Work on free throws.” Yep yep. “Grab them defensive boards.” Oh, yeah. “Stay outta foul trouble.” Done. “Bar-b-que a baby and wolf it down.” Already there.

  21. 21 Garrett

When do we play Boston again?

  22. 22 Matt Gibson

I know theres a game january 5th against boston at home since I’m going to it!!! But I would have to check if they play a game earlier against boston

    What would Vinny do?

  27. 27 Mike Payne

The next four games are going to be interesting. No elite teams, but these games could be a litmus to how we handle developing competitors. Watch closely, Pistons fans!

Wednesday the 19th is going to be a big day for the boys in blue…

  28. 28 Juggernaut

So someone want to explain to me why Rip wants to play more minutes? Is he an idiot or just selfish?! He’s averaging 34 minutes this season, which is pretty healthy for a guy who has sucked pretty bad thus far. Yeah, we know you’re used to playing 40 minutes, but guess what? THE WHOLE FRIGGIN IDEA THIS SEASON WAS THE PLAY THE STARTERS LESS! I’m really disappointed in him. Dude has long been my least favorite Piston starter, and this does nothing but cement that status.

  29. 29 Kyl

    Sloppy crossover.
    Thinks he’s lanky Iverson
    Pop! Shoot! Score Twenty!

remember the guy who used to quietly score 22 a night? Well he decided he needed to draw more fouls! *Cue mocking trumpet* wah wah wah wah waaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Garrett, we play at Boston on Wednesday the 19th, as sort of alluded to by Mike Payne. I’ve got it circled on my calendar. If the Pistons team of the last two games shows up, then 5 > 3, QED.

Blaha just mentioned Rip’s offensive struggles, but basically championed him for his general consistency over his career (agreed) when complimenting him on his solid first quarter. I love the fact that Blaha was insightful rather than being a homer as is mostly the case with broadcasters. Kelser also had some solid insight on Rip, basically echoing what we’ve been saying here for him to stay within his game. Solid close out to the first to tie it up, and a very impressive first from Baby Eater and Rippy. Good stuff from Sheed too, but the way he’s been playing this year, (*cough* Like an All-Star *cough*) he has to do something special to impress me.

    First quarter is done.
    Hamilton shoots the ball well.
    Tie score Rip with nine.

  39. 39 PistonsGirl4Life

Stuck at work, so we’re watching the box-score role by inbetween customers and one of my co-workers just said “Oh wow, they’re putting a girl in for Billups, not a good sign”…. Who says you have to SEE the game? I felt like I was in my living room making fun of Lindsey Hunter myself! Okay that’s a lie….

  40. 40 Tbranch

    Lindseys day of birth.
So long ago on this date.
    Don’t make fun of him.

  41. 41 LawyerBoy

Maxiell has gotten eight free throws already, gone 50%, and there’s still 8:45 left in the half. Ummm … if you take all facets of an NBA game, this guy is starting to look like he has the potential to be better than Ben Wallace, especially if his FTs can improve as they seem to be on the way. And kudos to Lindsey for playing with some spry legs this season. He is managing the offense very nicely off the bench. Also of note, on the season, Maxiell: 1.6 blks/game ; Ben Wallace : 1.5, of course Maxiell isn’t a threat to get steals.

  42. 42 Matt C.

Agreed, Maxiell has been a beast out there. I’d take him over Big Ben.

  43. 43 Kyl

HOLY SCHMESUS! That one handed offensive rebounding baby obliteration in the second quarter was a thing of beauty!

    to quote special k, “it’s jason’s world”

  44. 44 Tbranch

My mistake. Hunters birthday is tomorrow. Fire away.

  45. 45 PistonsGirl4Life

Hahaha, Lindsey’s okay by me so long as I never EVER have to watch him try to beat anyone 1 on 5 ever again. :)

Good half if the numbers don’t lie, wish I could see it ya’ll :)

  46. 46 LawyerBoy

PG4L, it has been a thing of beauty (as have seemingly all Pistons game as of late). Time to fire up the DVR for the 2nd half as I too, have to be at work. I know that we’re riding the hot hand of Maxiell, but I’m a little concerned that we’ve only seen a 3 bigs rotation in the first half. Since we’re (seemingly) in control I’d like to see some Nazr or Amir or something. If that’s our worst problem though, bless you Flip Saunders.

OT: I was discussing this with my friend yesterday during the Bucks game … our 3 inactives have been: Dupe, Samb and Stuckey as of late. Who takes Stuckey’s place on the inactive list after he heals up? Neither of us could come up with a good answer, which I suppose is a good problem to have. Please feel free to enlighten me with your opinions; I’m very curious.

  47. 47 Rob G

    Arms stretch’d to the sky.
    Fingers grasp the ball. Max
    has bad intentions.

    see them so sad.

time to bring in spell check and amir

  50. 50 Matt C.

Do I smell 3 straight blowouts?

  51. 51 PistonsGirl4Life

LB, well I’m no coach, but I mean it has to be Lindsey right? He said all the right things in the offseason about being more a coach, and sitting/not dressing some nights to help the team out… now’s as good as any.

To be honest though don’t be suprised if it’s a combination of 4-5 guys (Affalo, Murray, Hunter, Amir, Mohammed) depending on health, matchups and whatever astrology chart Flip follows to determine who plays when.

  52. 52 frankieelee

Not just a smell of 3 straight blowouts, I’d say. A stink? A stank? A funk?

Just happy to see the bench play.

Just happy to see Detroit rack up three of the kind of wins that Boston did at the beginning of the season.

Just happy to see, for the sake of his body, T. Prince not playing 107 minutes per game.

Waiting to see Maxiell grow the afro.

  53. 53 E-Double

PG4L, I have to disagree. I don’t see Flip inactivating Murray or Mohammed and he’s been talking about playing Lindsey a little more as of late. More than likely Samb is headed to the NBDL. That would be my bet. I wasn’t impressed by eating the under-manned Caves, not blown away by eating Milwaukee, but eating New Jersey alive, with all of their big 3 in the line up is quite impressive. Good to see Rip had a nice shooting night. Maximus!!! What can you say. I’m interested to see if he can turn into a Charles Barkley Jr. Remember, Sir Charles was just all energy at first and then his skills took off over the years.

Now the fact that this next comment is the only negative thing I have to say means we’re in good shape. Amir had 5 fouls and only played about 9 mins. I hope he”s not uninspired because he’s been playing garbage mins. I saw good defensive instincts in the Lakers game but Amir doesn’t show me anything when he plays garbage time. Usually he should be playing against the others teams deep bench so I would expect more from him in that scenario. Chauncey’s stat line has looked great. What can you say about McDyess man. If the M&M gang keeps playing like this, then Sheed can coast until needed. These blowouts have been good to rest Sheed’s knee. Go Pistons!!!

Waz up Lawyer Boy? How’s life in La-La land?

  54. 54 Mike Payne

1 down, 4 to go, and a deal sealer against boston coming up. if we can get these next three and that game against boston, i’m confident we’re getting out of the east (barring injuries, trades to us and others).

  55. 55 PistonsGirl4Life

ED, my response was to this question by LB:

OT: I was discussing this with my friend yesterday during the Bucks game … our 3 inactives have been: Dupe, Samb and Stuckey as of late. Who takes Stuckey’s place on the inactive list after he heals up?

Unfortunately Samb going down to Ft Wayne doesn’t actually allow the team to dress a 13th man, so this won’t solve the problem. Even if Samb leaves, we’ll still have to leave 2 players inactive, one of whom will be Dupree and one of whom we have no clue who this is yet (but won’t be Stuckey because he’s presumably going to be activated/dressing).

  56. 56 LawyerBoy

E-Double, LA is nice, thank you for asking. Although, I must say it’s been chilly as of late, meaning it’s around 60 during the day and in the 50s at night. I know, let the insults fly at how much of a softie I’ve become. Hey, I braved Thanksgiving time in the D without so much as a complaint about that weather, so take that for what it’s worth. I like PG4L’s answer, and I hope that’s true actually. I was thinking about if I had to pick just one guy on an everyday kind of basis for consistency’s sake, I’d go for Afflalo based on concepts of seniority and depth at the position he plays. Although, if Flip continues to dribble it off his foot with regularity, I may have to personally remove him from the active roster.

I do like E-Double’s suggestion about sending Samb to the D-League (maybe WITH Afflalo?), as we seem to just have too many solid players on this roster, and what a terrible problem that is to have. I know it’s early on in the season and this is pure speculation at best, but if people wouldn’t mind humoring me again … Do we think Jarvis and/or Flip will resign for modest contracts next year? Do we even want Flip to resign (I’ll just assume that for a modest amount we’d all gladly welcome back Jarvis)? Just something I was thinking about. Assuming Jarvis sticks around, this Pistons squad could run very deep for quite some time.

  57. 57 Mike Payne

Hey Pistons Fans– want to see an amazing photo?

  58. 58 PDXPistonsFan

Nice to see the squad get a win over the best player in the history of the league.

LawyerBoy you may think you’re soft in LA, but I just watched the potential for 1-3 inches of snow provoke live team coverage for six hours from a local news crew. This is a trippy place to live since in some parts of Michigan a foot of actualy snow might go unnoticed.

I watched some of the Milwaukee game this morning on a Chinese rebroadcast and it looked like there was a great offensive rhythm, but more importantly, confidence and familiarity between the players. Rip will get consistent, Max and Amir will continue to develop, Hayes role will become obvious, and Stuckey will replace Flip. What a great time to be a Pistons fan, huh?

  59. 59 PDXPistonsFan

Just looked at the box score. Max had 18 and 11 in 26 minutes! 5 offensive boards and 3 blocked shots, not to mention only one foul. Sign that kid up.

  60. 60 Quick Darshan

    Lawyerboy,

Lindsay will be the one to be inactive when Stuckey returns (along with Samb and Dupree).

Flip will go back to being the 3rd PG and competing with Afflalo for the 2nd SG position.

  61. 61 Sauce1977

    No century mark
    poetry too impressive
    also Pistons rocked

  62. 62 Rob G

I’m surprised Matt W, the professed English major, didn’t say anything about our excessive use of the Haiku form in comments. Perhaps he’s more an iambic pentameter type of guy?
