The Pistons are in Houston. The game has already started. Sooner or later I’ll get back to a regular schedule — in the meantime, leave your belated thoughts about the game in the comments.

Halftime. Pistons trail 38-33. Maxiell has been fantastic. Hubie Brown called him “a man at work”. Rip quiet (1-6), Tay silent (0-3), ‘Sheed in foul trouble (3 fouls in 8 minutes). Boring but wonderful Pistons traits like not turning the ball over and getting to the line are keeping the team in the game which is amazing when you shoot 27% for the half on the road. Ugly shooting but beautiful turnover numbers for Detroit.
For me, the highlight of the game so far is watching Maxiell vs. Yao. Max had a nice hesitation and dip to avoid a Yao block and then hit a little 8 foot jumper. Max also has gotten his body on Yao and forced a few misses up close.
I’m watching a P2P broadcast from China and I think I’m picking up the Mandarin language. Something about eating babies and burping up the pacifiers…
61-59 Stones! Exciting ugly game…
If Flip Murray can’t even make his friggin’ free throws, won’t pass the ball, and doesn’t control the tempo of the game, why is he still listed as a point guard?
Brief notes: Rasheed and Bonzi Wells get matching technicals. The Pistons have the best PG in this game. The Rockets have the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th best PGs in this game. Houston is 1-12 from the line on the night. Is that the worst FT shooting night in NBA history?
Most predictable response in history. Matching tech’s for Sheed and Bonzi, followed by Sheed howling at the missed free throws, screaming at Dick Bavetta, isolating down low, working to the front of the hoop, and then hitting. He should trademark that sequence of events.
Also, Jason F-ing Maxiell has been awesome from what I’ve seen.
Getting into it w/ Sheed is almost never a good idea. You know the guy is gonna come back into the post or nail a 3. There’s almost no excuse for it in 2007, everyone in the league has to know it by now.
The double-techs were unnecessary. They weren’t really going at it, they were jawing a bit, is all, and they’re former teammates and friends.
Hope we pull this one out. Great game so far.
Maxiell has been the best player on the court tonight, no doubt.
Hope Dyess is alright.
Fuck!
That’s a 5 game ankle injury.
Or a slight tweak, since it looks like he’s checking in.
Rip with a three to cut it to two points!
Let’s see a circa 2004 last-second win!
AAAAARGHGGHG!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGHHH!!!!!!
Stones had no business even being competitive in that game given the offensive display they called “offense” in the first half. If it weren’t for Houston missing a ton of free throws, Pistons probably don’t get a chance for a last second attempt. So goes the spotless record on back ends of the back-to-backs for this season, but downer games are bound to happen every so often. It’s not a reflection of this squad’s capabilities. 15-7 against any assortment of NBA teams is not too shabby.
The good things are: we played miserably and still almost won. Sheed is classic, all-star nasty talented Sheed this season. Jason Maxiell may be that new franchise face we’d been searching for since Ben left. I’d like to get a Maxiell Swingman jersey right away, please. Rip HAD a funk to start the season, the keyword is: had. That funk is officially over.
Two good looks (’Sheed by design, Chauncey on the rebound) at the end of the game for 3-pt. shots to win w/no luck. Too many flat spots during the game with low energy and an ugly shooting night equals road loss. It wouldn’t have been close if Houston shot free throws as well as your average pee-wee rec league team. Oh well.
Decided to try and do an “average minutes/game/starter” thingy
and tonight’s lucky number is (drumroll) 34.
did flip forget his is why we (supposedly) lost the playoffs last year?
and if flip is getting 2TO, 2BA, shooting 0% from the line and getting 20% FG% than can we chalk his numbers up in the rockets’ stat column?
just a thought….
Uh… Ohad? 34 minutes is not that much. That’s sitting out a whole quarter.
34 minutes is EXACTLY the average min/game/starter that we had last season and those minutes were partly to blame for the “fatigue” factor in the playoffs.
the only difference i can see for this season is that dyess has taken webber’s place and maxi has taken his.
at this rate we’ll have home court advantage again all the way until we get eliminated once again after being out-hustled.
Ohad - McDyess missed time with a turned ankle in the 4th Quarter and ‘Sheed had horrible foul trouble in the first half. I wouldn’t use this game as any kind of benchmark for minutes management.
shouldn’t both of the things you mentioned have cut their minutes?!
