The Pistons had the bad rap, but the Celtics were no angels, either. Can anyone honestly justify that Robert Parish takedown on Laimbeer without using the words “he had it coming to him”? In any case, tonight’s game tips at 7pm on ESPN — leave your thoughts in the comments.
We will beast you from the start of the game till the end, making sure to polish our nuts on Rasheed’s head.
Wallace is chump, who can barely jump, and doesn’t have the balls to play inside.
But the man with huge gums, just might have one when he says it ain’t how you start.
Cause he oughta know. He was there at the show, when the Cavs whupped Detroit’s ass four games in a row.
Lebron scored 30 straight and where was you bro? Pointing fingers at teammates and spreading the hate.
Hey Sheed a real man would have fouled his ass.
But tonight you will see what this man does not, that talk is cheap, but beasting is not.
We gonna rain it down on you from the rafters and overpower you inside. Tonight is the night when old grudges rise.
We gonna do this for Larry, who took so many cheap shots, from punk asses like Lambeer, Rodman, and Mahorn.
We gonna do this like Parish when he knocked that cheap shot bastard out.
So talk all you want you stupid ass Sheed because tonight we gonna smoke you like some dirty ass mexican weed.
Oh yes and
We hate you Bill Lamebeerz! We really, really hate you!
The Crack Staff @ Perkisabeast.com
Joe Dumars didn’t need Isiah Thomas to bail his ass out.
Fun fact: If you’re 19 years old or younger the Pistons have won three championships in your lifetime and the Celtics have won zero.
Tonight’s final score - Detroit 105, Boston 102 @ Your Name Here Arena.
All I’m saying is I’m glad there’s a Blaha broadcast here in Detroit. I can’t stand Bill Walton even for a minute. I got my brand new Maxiell jersey on and I’m looking forward to a good game!
Crackstaph-infection its good to have some folks outside of our group posting on here. Thanks for the energy.
ESPN reporting the flipsaunders doublespeak on their broadcast now.
Loving Walton’s verbosity at maximum velocity
why all the empty seats in boston??
We apologize before hand for embarassing you. We can’t help it. The game was invented here. If you don’t like losing to us, invent a new game.
Fun Fact: If you’re nineteen yrs old or younger, you know sh*t about the world and the things in it. You appreciate grace like coma patients appreciate bedsores.
maybe take a cue from the team you support and act with a modicum of respect towards your opponent (and their fans)
If you didn’t think we were smiling, you’d be kidding yourself. Sorry our east coast sense of humor has sullied your delicate midwestern sensibilities.
His name is Rajon Rondo and he is better than you right now.
Crack staff, I’d comment on your blog too, but I don’t want to be the guy who contributes to you having a record high of comments not made by you on a post. Man, Perk sure is handing it to us right now. Is he even on the floor? Maybe you should change your blog name to Rondo is a Beast. At least then we wouldn’t mock you.
His name is Richard Hamilton. Shup fool.
hahahaha perkins, nice fall!
Basketball teams are like classic cars.
You love em more if you build em yourself than if you just go out and buy one.
Wow, Perk is falling at the feet of the awesome Rasheed Wallace. That Billups dish to Rip was siiiiiiiiiiiiick.
Oh, what was that — a TURNOVER by MR PERKINS? Who knew — oh wait, we all knew… 20%+.
Once again, Chauncey getting blown by like a kite in the Chicago wind. I love you Chaunce but you have ZERO foot speed on defense.
paul is killing tay
Way too much of a foul disparity early. If we’re gonna hack ‘em, we better draw it out of them as well on the other end.
I hope Maxiell is hungry when he comes in.
Kevin Garnett is pretty good at the game of basketball.
I don’t think I would trade Flip Murray for Kendrick Perkins.
haha. glen davis.
(but I still think Kobe is the best)
That’s how you go to the line, thanks for listening, boys!
This is getting ugly.
Come on Hayes, we need you Baby. We need Maxie to get hungry. That offensive rebound was the first time he’s touched the ball. He’s not Ben Wallace, come on guys, use him offensively. When one of our guys goes cold, the whole 5 goes cold. I guess it’s contageous.
Yikes. Sheed just did the biggest (and slowest) flop ever after he got stripped trying to drive through two or three Celtics. And that resulted in a fast break. Nice.
And by “nice” I mean “dayum”.
Anyone else reminded of Daniel Gibson? When did the NBA start awarding free throws to any mini-man that fell over after shooting?
I think were good to go here. No way our shots keep rattling out of the basket like that in the 2nd half and Sheed should heat up a little.
Damn. Hayes can’t buy a basket tonight. Miss 2 or 3 WIDE OPEN jumpers. If we can get something going from the bench, we can pull this out. Afflalo didn’t look lost out there at all. Always in control. Watch out for Maximus in the 2nd half.
We could be in a lot worse shape right now. They have to shoot less than 62% for the game right? It can only get better, right? If we start bringing their FG % down a little bit, and ours up a little bit and get within about 10-15 % of them, we should be fine.
Tay cannot continue to be Casper the friendly ghost again in the 2nd half. Come on Tay, show up Baby!!!
Rocky Dennis is disappointed by the Pistons poor play. Anyone throw up in their mouth a little with the replay of Zo’s knee getting all bent up?
Well,
We’re sorry. We’re only up seven. We’ll try harder in the third, we promise.
Bill Walton is killing me. Can we get the NBDL guy who broke Cheik Samb’s teeth to visit Big Red?
I regret I ever said the name Arvis. His name is Jarvis. I have restored the J.
I wouldn’t mind throwing Hermann in there for a few to see if he can get some points up. I’m imagine he’ll give it his all to try to earn some minutes on the lineup. Seems like the Pistons aren’t really even trying to get open which happens a lot more than I would like.
Damn it’s halftime it’s a not close. We can put “classiest visting fans” to DBB in the win column — for Golden State.
Its a 7 point lead after some questionable calls and quite a few in and out shots… we’re going to be fine.
I do think that all nba fans would be happy with JoeJoeJoe’s suggestion though.
We need to charge to the freaking basket more. If we get Boston to rack up more fouls by getting in the paint then they will probably ease up on defense some to avoid fouling.
Boston is pretty damn good at D.
I don’t like the unis. Just thought I’d bring that up.
Tay cannot get a paycheck for tonights game because he has not shown up for work AT ALL!!!!!
Yeah, Walton said we should win but wouldn’t in a seven game series? Isn’t a seven game series because you can come back from a bad game (in this case half)? Walton is like this one guy in my extended group of friends who just proclaims everything over (for or against us) based on a couple of plays.
Ridiculously reactionary, Rocky (Dennis).
I think Garnett is about to become a hated Pistons’ rival and not even for his play.
McDyess looks as active this season then at any point since he’s been with the Pistons. He looks more mobile in getting to the elbow for mid-range jumpers. That’s a very good thing.
Don’t look now but it’s a 2-point ballgame. 54-56.
Nice comeback, only down 2 now.
Bill Walton should win the biggest douche in the universe award this year. Boston’s up by 7 at the half after shooting 62% compared to Detroit’s 39%. If those numbers were reversed, would Detroit only have a seven point lead? Maybe I’m wrong, just trying to keep a postive outlook, but I doubt it. During the halftime show, Walton actually said that Boston’s championship banner should be printed now. NOW!?? So this is the best ESPN has to offer as far as an “analyst” goes huh? An overrated player that begged a coach to let him sit on the bench of a championship team. Sorry Bill, but even if you’re beloved celts do manage to buy that title this year, they’ll still have to get back to the finals to defend it, then continue to proceed to the ECF for the next few years to even be compared to detroit. Maybe it’s me, but Detroit building up a high-caliber team and maintaining for many seasons is much harder to do than acquiring a couple of stars and winning a lone title(which is still a toss up at this point). No disrespect to Boston fans, it really is good to see a team playing like a team and being successful, it just sucks to hear everyone tooting their horn this early. Let’s not forget Miami, won a championship two years ago, bottom of the league now. SO please boston fans, for your sake, don’t let Bill “I say the dumbest shit ever” Walton be your biggest cheerleader.
Clearly, the most productive thing anyone could possibly do with their time is create an unecessarily hateful blog based entirely on an alternate universe in which Kendrick Perkins is anything but a serviceable big man on a team with three superstars. I’m guessing the sky is purple there.
The next logical step would be to find a blog that is generally respectful toward opposing teams and try to bait visitors of said blog into a verbal tug-of-war.
Strong play. Boston is playing very well and the pistons are playing so-so, but never does it seem like its running away from us. A dunk or two by jmaxx, tay getting a few points–or if even one of hayes’s 3pters that went in and out went in–we’d be up by a point.
GO PISTONS!!!
If Tays ass ever shows up for work then we can probably win this game. When one of our main parts has an off night and we can still hang with a very good team, that’s proof of our depth.
I think I know what we need in this game….
More Amir.
Thank you, Dice. Dice is carrying the whole damn team right now.
Tight game. It’s time for us to win one of these damn things…
Wow, Garnett just punched Rasheed in the liver to get a steal and there was no foul. Then Pierce drives baseline and gets a (probably frustration) bump from Sheed, and 1.
Yeah we NEED to win a game against an elite team.. I’m sick of us failing to win these big games..
I think I can say the torn patella tendon happened to the most deserving victim, Alonzo “No Loyalty” Mourning. This thread alone has more posts than that bizarre Perkins blog has on its entire site. And any single coherent post here (a consistent occurrence) makes one more than on that blog. Way to break the cold streak, Tay
OT: Nazr has 11 and 6 (w/4 TOs) through 3 in his first start for the Bobcats (confirmed through thorough fact checking, Chris McCosky).
Nice to see a call go our way.
Anyone know where Rip Hamilton, the super fast guy who never stops moving and has a killer mid-range jumper, went to? I haven’t seen him since 2004.
Holy Chuck Nevitt reference on Primoz Brezec.
Why the helll aren’t we passing it to Maxiell underneath the basket?!?!?! Maxie and Tey are having terrible games.
Agreed Garrett although I feel he has somewhat stepped up compared to his previous form but is still not like what he was back in ‘04.
well the defense was great that quarter, held boston to 13 points, now we just need to score
Garrett, he’s 7-10 for 19 and 3-4 from beyond the arc tonight. You really gonna go there? I’d say, mid-range or not, he’s having quite a game. Rip and Ray are basically playing the same quality game, and I don’t think Celtics fans would be chastising Ray.
Also, does anyone else think they hear Chuck Daly in the sound and delivery of Flip Saunders? I think they sound remarkably similar, doesn’t mean they coach (or don’t) coach similarly.
This is renewal of rivalry?
Detroit should have known that Boston was going to play for keeps.
What we, as fans, receive . . . Billups and Hamilton responding to the challenge, while Tayshaun and Rasheed combine an effort of an 8 inch vertical.
This isn’t even close to the old days.
Utter disappointment.
Up 3, and It’s all from Lindsays’ D.
Bill Walton should be very worried…
LawyerBoy — wow, thsoe are surprising numbers. I guess that’s what I get for working while I watch the game — every time I look up it seemed like he was missing a jumper or just non-existent.
LINDSAY HUNTER! What an impact he made to get us the lead!! Huge…
Dang Sauce … no looking at the bright side? Who is this guy wearing the Lindsey Hunter jersey? He has Lindsey’s defense from 2003-2004 but apparently he has Allan Houston’s jump shot as well.
I just tattooed Lindsey Hunter’s name on my chest and beat a rabbit to death with a squirrel carcass. Someone needs to blow the conch, I am in Lord of the Flies mode!!!!! I will have Rondo on a spit!
If it’s possible to eat a baby on a spin-move/lay-up, Maxiell just found a way.
Afflalo is the embodiment of Pistons basketball in this game. Tough defense, smart plays. He just baited KEVIN GARNETT.
Now this is nice to watch.
He we go boys!! 7 point lead!!!
Win or lose, detroit has defiently proven they’re gonna be a hella of a problem for boston, great action here, has that playoff feel
Is Perkins a beast or a baby, because Maxiell just ate him.
Panic in Boston.
OT (again): Don’t look now, but Nazr Mohammed has 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting and is getting serious burn in the second half of the 4th quarter for the Bobcats in a tight game.
Wow, that dunk by Ray Allen was very Baby Eater-like.
YAAAAAHHHHH! I have just debated a Harvard garduate. He walked away crying because he is intellectually small!!!!
Whoa! Ray Allen just turned back the clock to the 1997 dunk contest and hammered a nice baseline reverse on Chauncy and Maxiell.
I doubted this Detroit team could play well in a big matchup like this but at this stage I’m proven wrong.. However, games not over.. Come on boys let’s close this out!
Ooooo, LATE whistle for Garnett, who wasn’t even touched by Sheed.
wow, refs really like to affect the outcome
Allesn foot was on the line for that 3.
And bad call on Dyess because it’s Garnett
Wow, KG is really getting the superstar treatment. All he has to do is shoot an airball and the refs will call it.
why does it seem that detroit never catches those little breaks?
Sweet 3 by Billups
Prince is playing tonight like he’s a baby in Maxiell’s path. But maybe just maybe Chauncey is Mr. Big Shot.
Sheed rejected the **** out of that.
I’m sorry, did Rasheed Wallace just SWALLOW Kendrick Perkins’ shot in crunch time? Did I see that correctly?
Ha! Sheed with the HUGE block on Perkins, who should have had an easy dunk if he were a competent NBA player.
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! CAN”T MCDYESS JUST CASH THAT!!!!!!!!!! this can’t be good on my blood pressure!
I want every year to be 1988-1989.
Where’s the Crack Staff of Perkisabeast.com?!?!? I want to get their view on that monumental take by Perkins!
like i said, little breaks
Ehh, 2 3’s in a row against us stung, brought us back to a tie.
wow, god must be a celtics fan
Here’s some basketball 101 for Boston fans out there who in the past decade of watching whatever the heck that was may have forgotten how the league goes….
You see that massive discrepancy in our fourth quarter scoring vs yours? You see how basically your team looks dead tired and suddenly we’re all over you and infact have taken a nice lead with a buck and a half to go after you DOMINATED the first half?
Welcome to being us in 2005-2006. Get a bench. Night kids.
how many times can we watch shit like this!!!!!!????
I really wish Billups didn’t just turn the ball over.
It won’t even go to OT
Uh …. Chauncey is NOT Mr. Big Shot. I was willing to let the first two times he pulled crap like that in this game slide cuz everything else he was doing was brilliant, but someone please notice that he just turned the ball over on what appears to be our last possession of regulation, possibly the game.
some rediuclous shots going in for a super-desperate looking celtics team.
Chancey in going to drive on Rondo and either score or get fouled.
Game over.
boston gonna score or get to the line, wow, that’s blowing it
yes!!!!!!!!!!!! the negativity brought about a stop
Whew, we got it back with 1.7 left. Now worse case is overtime.
Wow, this is a finish. Let’s put this one to bed.
uh oh…. they were smart enough to pull rondo out.
HAHAHAH, and at that exact moment Ray Allen makes me look like a fool hahahah, ah well honestly man I’m not scared…. The second half has gone exactly like it was supposed to go…. a couple lucky 3’s aren’t going to change how these teams match up EVERY time… and again I dunno about ya’ll but I’ve been thinking about these guys and 7 game series for about 2 months now.
Hey, a Michael Curry sighting! Nice suit!
OMG.
Thanks you Billups, your turnover is forgiven now.
Wow. What was Allen thinking. Seriously. I mean. Wow. Celtics fans must be ready to slit their wrists right about now.
GAME OVER, BABY.
Redemption, thy name is Chauncey Billups.
If Detroit played just this one game up to Boston’s level of effort, then Detroit could have won by 20.
I hate sleep-walking for games that matter.
WOOOHOOO!!!! What a game to watch.. Pistons finally step it up on National TV!
Nice win. I was at the edge of my seat the whole game.
Whose Mr. Big Shot Now??????
I am going to the library to vote for his ass!!!!
True, he deserves some more all star votes for that performance.
thank god.
That Kenny Anderson trade really paid off for Boston!
See? F**K THAT SH*T THIS AIN’T COLLEGE AND YOU AIN’T PRINCETON MR RAY ALLEN.
Sorry, I’m officially all jacked up….
“Though eight is not enough, your whole squad better duck
It’s like switch when I bust
Now you’re whole crew is dust
Comin’ through my area, i’ma have to bury ya
The real scream team on your scream scene
It’s like showdown on the range
Go tell me who wanna tangle with the
ghetto witch-doctor neighborhood superhero?”
(Note I think that’s officially Sheed now that Corliss Williamson and his fabulous hair have retired).
yes. oh, god yes. I got $60 million reasons why I love Billups.
Shhhh… hear that? That’s the sound of a million Boston fans dying just a little bit inside. Awww yeah.
PISTONS WIN
I still can’t get over that win.. I know it’s still just ‘another W’ but you can’t not get excited after a game like that ..
WHOOOO!!!!
What a great game to watch.. Billups was awesome!! Rondo is great, that kid got a bright future… but in the end, Chauncey showed him who’s All Star.
Pistons beating Celtics in Eastern Conf. finals… now THAT would be a dream come true!
Goddamn that is why I watch basketball.
AND PERKINS SUCKS! Who would have guessed
And screw Bill Walton.
You hear him during halftime? He was talking like the Pistons had NO CHANCE of winning this game… like they were AWFUL!!
… but I love how he is such a total knob.
My roommate (who, in his defense, works a 10pm-6am shift out here in Cali where it’s still only 7pm) wakes up at about 5 saying “You hear what Bill Walton said? I’m afraid to ask how many we’re down by.” When I tell him 7, he just shakes his head and laughs at Walton’s hyperbole. Keep in mind he said we should win a seven game series but wouldn’t based on ONE HALF of regular season basketball.
Tbranch - mad props for dropping British slang.
Also, I officially DEMAND an appology from Bill Simmons for saying the Pistons are 2nd round and out as constructed now… if You’re gonna flap your gums about Boston FINALLY being a contender and go on a 1.5 year long man crush on KG then you HAVE TO FREAKING ADMITT we’re pretty good for beating him Bill…. can’t have it both ways you chubby little homer.
PG4L: I felt the exact same way! I almost spilled my tea on the keyboard when I read that “2nd round and out” crap… But then again, that one came from the man that said Celtics were crazy to trade the superstar of the future (Jefferson) for the guy past his prime (Garnett) and who got beat in football predictions by his wife who doesn’t watch football for 2 years in a row.
I don’t even bother reading Simmons, Pg4L! I feel it’s better that way. I can’t stand the guy. He’s like sports lite.
but what a great Pistons win! man!
Bench production:
Detroit - 14 pts, 6 reb, 3 steals, 1 TO, 3 fouls
Boston - 5 pts, 7 rebs, 2 steals, 3 TO, 9 fouls
More points, fewer mistakes, better reserves = Detroit victory.
It feels good to be the ones who delivered Boston their first home loss.
All Bostons 5 bench points were from House too, 1 guy scored off their bench. Who has a deep bench? Not Boston, against a good team.
http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2007/12/20/somewhere-this-man-is-smiling/
Look at that garbage. Such uneducated rationalizing.
This is an example of the Pistons refusing to acquiesce to momentum. In the past, they would have tossed up a nonsense shot and gathered themselves for overtime. Billups has remembered how to go for the kill.
Celtics record at all-star break, 35-15. That’s my prediction.
I quoteth the Crack, I should I say I paraphrase it:
We beasted them from the start of the game till the end, making sure to let Rasheed show off his polished interior D.
Wallace is champ, and he and the D did stamp
Boston’s first home loss.
And the man with big shots, just might hit a FT or two, to seal the deal.”
See, I can write shitty rhymes, but at least mine are in honor of some badass ballaz.
Come on… give Boston credit. This is like one of those episodes of Happy Days where it ends… To Be Continued.
Whateva, this photo pretty much sums up how this “rivalry” is going to go in it’s entirity:
http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/photos?photoId=1761211&gameId=271219002
Notice how our backup is aggressively looking for a shot and your backup is a floopy old white guy who’s doing some sort of vague Brad Miller These Days impression.
I live in NY…. I’m the biggest Pistons fan, but I’m also a Yankees and Jets fan. So you can imagine how I feel about Boston… and just how sweet this victory is!
Oh I give Boston tons of credit. Loads. They’re only going to get better. I’m just critical of poorly written, self-promoting, incoherent rants, such as the first post on this thread. But Brad, I hear you - this is definitely not over…
Bill Walton can eat a bag of d1©k$. sorry for the language.
bill walton is a know it all who thinks he is the only one who knows anything about basketball.it is so obvious that he hates RASHEED WALLACE. if boston gets to the finals they dont have a chance of beating the whiners over in san antonio.
This victory won’t overshadow my anger for Flip Saunders though. Why would he take Afflalo out in the 2nd when he was bringing D and O and Hayes was bringing nothing. I don’t understand what hes thinking sometimes.
“Quick call a timeout and insert Lindsey Hunter” - What Flip Saunders is thinking 99.5% of his day….
Sheed has a ring.
Garnett has, um, photos of Wally Sczierbiak, a copy of T-Hud’s rap CD, and (soon to be) an apology letter from Ray Allen.
And that line of thinking worked. Hunter brought us back into this.
Flip is kinda winning me over.
Rob don’t get too out of hand, I mean sure it worked this ONE time but seriously between “How do I get Flip Murray an open look here” and “Jesus we’re down by 5 lets bring in the 45 year old defensive specialist” I’m gonna go with: “The sun shines on a Flip’s a$$ eventually but hardly consistantly”.
Afflalo is 16-17 in FTs this year. That kid does a lot of things well.
This is the kind of night that pistons fans, at least myself, live for. After having to watch them hand over two games to the bulls on national tv, i was gonna shit on myself if they would’ve blown that one, great second half. What did detroit do better than boston late? DEFENSE AND EXECUTION (minus that chauncey turnover with 5 ticks left)
maybe detroit dosent have a chance of winning the title. but maybe neither does any one else. the year the pistons won no one gave them a shot to beat the mighty fakers. the fact is every one is getting sick of tim legler greg anthony and steven a smith running thier big dumb mouths about who they think is going to win it all.
(also jokes aside, I do give Boston a pile of credit, I mean ever since NJ and Miami became old folks homes for whiners and losers I’ve been terrified the Eastern finals would be Cleveland and Detroit again. It’ll be alot more exciting to beat a real team rather than Lebron’s entourage…. and this is the FIRST game this year that go me so excited I spilled my cider on myself at the bar and will now have to shower… that says something, what I’m not sure, but something.)
Ciao for now.
You can quote me on this:
- Rondo will never play that well again against the Pistons.
- Our SF’s will never play that poorly again against Boston.
I agree with Rob G, PG4L, Hunter was the right idea at the right time.
Flip did pretty well tonight.
I agree, Afflalo is amazing. If Stuckey turns out good, our 2nd unit with him at PG, Afflalo at SG, Hayes at SF, Amir at PF, and Maxie at C could match with ANYBODY!
mr. monday, don’t apologize for the language, it’s no more detremental than that shit that flys out of mr. walton’s semen-encrusted mouth
And why doesnt Flip have an play calls for the bench. Its either A: Maxiell post up, B: Hayes post up, C: Lindsey dribble. Why can’t there be an Afflalo off screens play or Hayes. Some plays to try and get those two guys open.
OT: Nazr Mohammed went for 17 pts., 8 rebs., 3 blocks in 38 minutes for Charlotte in a 98-92 victory over Utah at home. Good for him.
STILL PUMPED UP! I know it’s just one game and when our next loss comes along this will feel like a distant memory, but i’m riding this high horse(no homo) all week long, and where’s that “crack” character who was talking about smoking the pistons like some “dirty mexican weed”? So, does shitty brick weed smoke good or something? Seems like there were a million better similies that could’ve been used.
Same here, I’m glad for him. Nazr was a good sport about his lack of minutes and I’m sure he enjoys the extra minutes for the Bobcats, let alone having a starting spot again.
Yes, Joe D said win-win, and that’s right if Nazr can put together a good season on a team that could sorely use him.
joe cubed: you stole my OT Nazr gimmick for the night!
Also, for anyone that cares, Rudy Gay sank a perfect three in Duncan’s grill with no time left to win it for the Grizzlies. It was pretty damn exciting, so thank you League Pass.
Good for Nazzie. Lands in a place where he’s needed and will get to start. Some guys just need a little sun to shine.
I think that Afflalo guy is a keeper…
Here, here, Diablo… and that Maxiell fellow is pretty good, too.
So back in the Garnett thread, Sean W. posted this link:

I was so frustrated between that lame Perkins fan and Stan McNeal’s assertion that McDyess and Perkins were an even match that I wrote Stan McNeal immediately following the game. Quite quickly, Stan actually replied to my e-mail. I thought I’d share the exchange with the DBB community:
On 12/19/07 9:08 PM, “Michael Noveck” wrote:
Stan,
Pistons fans appreciate the respect that you’ve shown our squad. We’re known for bitterly clamoring for the type of attention and praise that you’ve provided in your article. We feel that it comes across so rarely in the national spotlight, that when it does, we feel entitled to nitpick on its accuracy.
I want you to examine your assertion that Antonio McDyess and Kendrick Perkins are even. Kendrick Perkins is about as green as the jersey he wore tonight, and McDyess, the veteran, is clearly the more talented of the two. They’re simply not close to even. I don’t know if you were being lazy or simply don’t have the level of basketball insight to recognize the inequality between the two players. While I appreciate you arriving at the wise conclusion that this Detroit team still is the class of the East, I’d appreciate it if you gave Antonio his proper due and rated Kendrick Perkins for what he is, not what he might (or might not) end up being.
Best wishes and happy holidays,
Michael Noveck

Thanks for writing, and I agree about McDyess. In fact, that’s one of the points I make in the follow column. Thanks for writing,
Stan McNeal
Here’s his follow-up piece, which is spot-on including a pair of textual mea culpa regarding both our bench and McDyess:

I have emailed back and forth with this writer, and I was waiting patiently until tonight to point a finger with the last laugh. Worth a read above.
I just got back in, I was out watching the game with a fellow Detroit transplant out here on the East Coast. I haven’t read the comment thread, so apologies if any of this
