The Pistons are in New Jersey

About two years ago, there wasn’t another team in the NBA I despised more than the New Jersey Nets. Now? I’m almost completely indifferent, and I blame it on New Jersey’s mediocrity.

Tonight, the Pistons travel to the Meadowl… um, I mean the “Izod Center,” where they’ll try to avoid playing down to the Nets’ sub-fivehundred-ness and take care of business (as opposed to me, who’s having a hard time realizing that I’m actually expected to work these last few days of 2007).

The game tips off at 7:30 on WDIV (Channel 4) in Detroit, and as usual leave your thoughts about tonight’s proceedings in the comments.

11-4 start — the Pistons are doing a much better job bouncing back from time off than I.

Nice 3 from Sheed near the end of the 1st, plus his tapped away pass on the Nets last possession.

lots of the bench playing? Don’t have audio…

Nice O-Rebs by McDyess at the end of the half.

Here’s a site I seen on here before for game links. I never tried it, try the latest link.

Oops, it would help if I post the site. http://forum.myp2p.eu/viewtopic.php?id=24084

Meh, I tried a couple of the links and they didn’t work. I’m not tech savvy at all. In fact, I have no idea how I am interacting with you people. Is this some sort of sports portal of the damned? Why is there a line blinking at me, as though begging me to type more? This is all so new.

    kevin,

you’d have to try those links within 2-3 minutes after they are posted. I had no clue but you may also try this link:

    go now!

I read something about needing windows media player 10 and not WMP 11 to open them, but since I never tried it can’t really confirm or not.

    Sheeds been tearing them up.

  11. 11 Matt C.

I hear Sheed yellin “watch that elbow dog” after the foul was called on him.

  12. 12 Matt C.

Is it me, or did Michelob copy the Sam Adams commercials?

  13. 13 PistonsGirl4Life

Heheh, this is starting to become a theme with the Pistons….. “End the game with a strong 3rd quarter”….

Just one question, why is being a “Net” good anyways? Don’t nets just get hung on and have basketballs slammed right through them? Oh yeah……..

  14. 14 Mike Gminski

You take that back, or I’ll scratch you with my beard. You won’t like that, I tell ya…

  15. 15 kevin s.

Update from Gamecast: Jason Collins enters for Josh Boone. Gotta pity the Nets fan.

  16. 16 Matt C.

You can just see the despair in J-Kidds eyes as the lead gets farther out of their hands.

  17. 17 Matt C.

Kidd also seems afraid to shoot.

Oh baby that three ball was DAGGARS, mo-fo! Go Chauncey.

  19. 19 kevin s.

    Stuckey-Snax for two!

Man, Gerald Wallace almost singlehandedly carried the Bobcats back against the Wizards, but alas it was not to be. I guess the Wizards were never told in middle school not to foul with less than a minute left when you have the lead seeing as they did it MULTIPLE times to give Charlotte and 1s. Nazr with another solid 6 point-12 board performance, but he did have serious foul trouble. League Pass … so many games, so little time. Josh Smitb daggers the Pacers; Carmelo assaults the Bucks’ rim. I love you League Pass. The Pistons are playing tonight? Oh, yeah probably should watch that, kinda know the outcome though.

How on earth did Jason Maxiell do that? There is one less baby crying in this world, because Jason has silenced that infant with his teeth.

    Pistons making it look easy.

  24. 24 LawyerBoy

Wow, thank you Matt. I’m still partial to the “Redemption thy name is Chauncey Billups” effort, but I’ll take whatever praise I can get.

  25. 25 Rob G

Ian Eagle had some good quotes:

“Jason Maxiell. Wow. He is angry!”

    and, my favorite:

“Are you familiar with the rap artist 50 Cent? Do you see a little of that in Stuckey?”

    Wow. Those are priceless.

I was at the game… and damn, this was awesome, awesome to watch! Here are some observations:

    - Nets really, really need somebody good in the front.
    - That somebody could really be Sean Williams one day. That kid’s got potential.
    - Stuckey is RELENTLESS. He kept driving and driving to the basket. I think he could easily be the next Dwyane Wade, only with Detroit mentality. Now that’s a scary thought.
    - The crowd gave up on the Nets early. They really need to move to Brooklyn, as soon as possible.
    - Billups completely outplayed Kidd.
    - Maxiell = MONSTER!!!
    - I would’ve really loved more time for Amir, but alas, nothing can be perfect.
    - Brezec looks like a giant doofus.

Surprisingly, there were quite a few Detroit fans in attendance. Funniest comment of the night came from a little kid behind me midway through the fourth quarter: “That’s it, I’m rooting for the Pistons now!”. I think that pretty much sums it up :-)

  27. 27 joejoejoe

Nice road win against a once-decent Nets team. No starter played more than 34 minutes and both Afflalo and Stuckey got a few minutes. Detroit has quietly compiled the second best record in basketball and beat the team with the best record on their home court. Life is good.

  28. 28 Jason

There is a reason Brezec looked like a doofus… he is. He’s 7 though. Even we everyone talked about maxiel loosin 20 I was excited, butt I had no idea. I mean who can loose 20 in an off season and improve that much. nice job kid. Our team is one of the best in the league. As for the Nets… can’t agree more, i used to curse them, don’t really care just laugh now. I hate the cavs, the bulls, and the heat. They all suck, but at least they have some sort of a shot. Man the Nets miss Kristic. It seems like the east is between us and Boston and I agtree. Bulls still have talent, Cavs have lebron… Pistons should win the east. I am not to afraid to say that is the worst we should do. Can we sign extend Joe D’s contract Right now?

  29. 29 IsraeliPiston

What is nice about the Pistons is that they can still get even better - either Hayes’ shot will start to fall or Herrmann or even SpellCheck will get his minutes

Stuckey needs a little more time and then watch out!!

Tay still has not really found his shot either

  30. 30 Tbranch

I also heard the “Maxiel is angry” comment from the announcers and started laughing.

No special plug-ins or anything. They seem to always have all the games and one link lasts all night.

Also, Hayes is starting to turn into a Flip Murray clone. Rampant ball-hoggishness coupled with poor decision making. I guess it’s tough when you only get a few minutes here and there and still want to prove you can start but Jarvis just oozes desperation.

So far Afflallo, Amir, and Hunter use their limited minutes to contribute as team players while Hayes and Murray are completely “me first” when on the court. Stuckey is a little in between. Even Brezec plays his role and doesn’t think he’s going to impress his way into a starting job.

  31. 31 LawyerBoy

Tbranch, I think comparing Jarvis to Flip is a little premature in nature. It seems to me that Jarvis’s recent selfishness on the court stems from an obsession with getting out of the shooting slump he’s been having. The logic there being, the only way you can end the slump is to keep shooting and finally break it. It doesn’t stem from a lack of (or spotty) minutes, because he’s averaging eighteen a night and has played in every single game this season. And I truly don’t think it stems from Flip Murray-like tendencies because Jarvis doesn’t run the point and waste a ton of the shot clock with the ball in his hands so much as take bad shots when the ball comes to him. Generally speaking, Flip also turns it over to the other team without even getting a shot off whereas Jarvis doesn’t. He just “oozes desperation” as you said, in terms of finding his rhythm again.

We were all praising Jarvis when the season started because he was hitting his shots and he was doing it within the team concept when he was getting open looks. Now he seems to be trying to force it, but I think that’s only because he’s gone so cold. He had five games in double figures in November but he hasn’t had one since December 4th.

I guess I’m trying to say it’s been a tough month for him, but we all should have known this inconsistency was part of the deal when we got Jarvis. I just don’t think a comparison to Flip is fair.

  32. 32 Rob G

The good news is, Jarvis is shooting 100% in three ball attempts after the shot clock has expired and when the refs haven’t noticed. That’s a rare stat to be the league leader in, but there he is…

  33. 33 Tbranch

    Lawyer boy.

yeah, yer right. It is premature to get down on Jarvis. Things are just going so well for the Pistons right now that any little glitch stands out for me. The tag on Hayes is inconsistency.

Mostly I just don’t want to see him fall into the desperation trap. He has been getting good minutes and he is in sort of a slump (17/60 - 28.3% shooting since Dec 7th). I want him to work out and now that Stuckey will be demanding some court time I feel desperate FOR Hayes.

Thanks for putting me back on an even keel.

I can’t believe they counted that 3-ball be put after the buzzer last night… Nets fans must feel trod upon.

  34. 34 Bren

    Where’s Hermann?

  35. 35 joejoejoe

Give Jarvis Hayes a chance. He’s not being selfish by shooting from the SF position. That’s his job on this team. Compare..

    Mr. X, age 25 - 17.8 min, 7.7 pts, .496 eFG%, 2.4 ast, 1.4 to, 2.1 reb.
    Mr. Y, age 26 - 18.1 min, 7.1 pts, .479 eFG%, 0.7 ast, 0.6 to, 2.7 reb.

Mr. X is Vinnie Johnson in his first season with Detroit. Mr. Y is Jarvis Hayes. Hayes doesn’t move the ball as well as the Microwave but he’s not a combo guard either. Hayes does do a decent job of not turning the ball over and rebounding from his position. Hayes is solid now and his future is bright in Detroit.

  36. 36 kevin s.

Hayes has a history of poor shot selection, and is a historically poor shooter. The hope was that expectations would cure the former, while the latter was the result of injury.

  37. 37 kevin s.

So, on the heels of his 0-8 masterpiece last night, Kidd is currently second among guards in all-star voting. That, folks, is ridiculous. He is being outplayed by Derek Fisher.

  38. 38 Rob G

You called it, Kevin - the greatest player in the history of the NBA, or any basketball league for that matter, is getting his props in the All Star votes.

All kidding aside, that is just pathetic. I can’t even rationalize it. Oh, well. I always thought that 99% of the world is stupid as hell. Empirical proof just keeps piling up.

  39. 39 PistonsGirl4Life

The freezing cold weather, this thread, this loss vs the Pistons, Christmas, the spousal abuse charges AND Jason Kidd’s complete inability to hit the net are herebye declared “all part of” Kevin S’s grand consipiarcy against Jason Kidd (and possibly Muslims. Either way we’re pretty sure Jason Kidd is about to “go jihad on their asses”).

    Just soasinyaknows.
