- I didn’t get to a recap of Wednesday’s win over the Nets as planned, but Natalie from Need4Sheed did, as usual.
- John Schuhmann of NBA.com looks at Wednesday’s game as an example of Detroit’s offensive efficiency. (courtesy of DBB reader Tim)
- From SLAM’s Ben Osborne’s Game Notes:
… Pistons trainer Mike Abdenour is nuts. I’ve seen him harangue refs plenty of times, but now his target is the bus company that shuttled the Pistons to the game; apparently, the driver left the arena while the bus still had some players’ belongings on board. He is currently cursing up a storm on his cell phone about this driver. Funny.
- You know how a strong third-quarter effort by the Pistons is becoming routine? Rasheed Wallace says it’s by design. From Chris Silva of the Detroit Free Press:
“We don’t want it to be close for the refs to try to call some crazy stuff in that fourth quarter. So we’ve got to go out in that third quarter, no matter if it’s the first part of the third or the middle of that. We’ve just got to try to open up at least a 10-point lead in that third quarter.”
- Chauncey Billups elaborates — from Chris McCosky of the Detroit News:
The Pistons have outscored opponents in 13 out of the last 15 third quarters and haven’t allowed a team to score 20 points in five games.
“That’s crazy,” Chauncey Billups said. “We don’t look to lock in like that, but we know that’s a critical quarter.”
- From the same link as above, Flip Saunders empathizes with Scott Skiles:
Saunders left a message on Scott Skiles ‘ phone after the news broke Christmas Eve that Skiles had been fired as coach of the Bulls.
“I told him he would be 82-0 if he just played us,” Saunders said. “His teams beat up on us pretty good. He took an organization that was on the bottom and made it respectable very quickly.”
Seriously — if Chicago got up for every team like they did Detroit, they’d be giving Boston a run for their money. Instead, they’re mired in Lottery-ville.
- Jonathan Feigen, who also writes for the Houston Chronicle, nailed the Pistons’ mindset in this recent column for HOOPSWORLD: “Pistons want to be slighted.”
- Last but not least, I’ve received a request for all Portland-based Pistons fans to out themselves in the comments. Between Q-Dog, PDXpistonsfans and piñon lopez, it seems DBB has its share of Rose City residents, so feel free to connect with any others in the comments if you’re interested in meeting up to watch a game or whatnot.

Jarvis left practice early today because of food poisoning, he may miss tomarrow’s game. So now I’m preparing myself for a Walter Herrmann debut appearance.
I been wanting to see him play too, I’m sure he’ll be hungry out there to try and earn some playing time.
*Tries to pretend she’s not with the fanbase who’s actively anticipating the foriegn white kid with funny hair’s debut*
I had definately noticed a huge uptick in effort from the Pistons in the past few 3rd quarters. They’re going to be a hard team to beat if they keep outscoring teams 28-14 in the 3rd that’s for sure. That having been said however if the trend becomes known league wide competative teams will simply “lock in” during said quarter too… It’s a great idea in theory but really the game is 48 mins for a reason.
Either way it IS fun to know that you HAVE to make it back to the TV before the half starts if you want to see the Pistons tear someones heart out, so I’m down
Re: Portland
My grandma and aunt/uncle live in the Portland area and I’ll be out there again March 1st thru 5th. I’d certainly be up for a Blazers game with some other Pistons fans if there’s anything goin on.
I’m temporarily moonlighting in Iowa– meaning that I’m spending a year here until my girlfriend is ready to move her career elsewhere. In the mean time, are there any Iowa-based DBB readers? Boy would I love to share a game with a Pistons fan out here…
I didn’t even know anyone lived in Iowa… what is there to do in Iowa besides play college football? of course I’m kidding…
Matty, you seem to forget the large contingent of Pistons fans in the DC area!
Yep, I’m in the PDX and subscribe to NBA League Pass. My spot isn’t the biggest, but I’m always down to host other Pistons fans. I’ve also connected with some peeps on Facebook and we were talking about getting together for the Dallas/Detroit game coming up. Probably at a bar or something. Feel free to message me directly at QDogPDX@comcast.net

PS: I won’t get to watch the game tonight, my OSU Beavers will be taking a .500 Maryland club to the woodhouse!
er, or woodshed, as it were…
Here, here, Boney. A lot of us are in DC scouting the Pistons’ farm team, the Washington Wizards.
It will be nice to see an underachieving Nick Young in a Pistons’ uniform in 2 years or so…
I want a piece of this Portland Piston action! I’m surrounded by Blazers fans and was too intimidated to head to the Rose Garden alone with the Pistons were in town. shed.girl@yahoo.com
Boney- “I didn’t even know anyone lived in Iowa… what is there to do in Iowa besides play college football? of course I’m kidding…” Well aside from college football, which I’m not into, I spend most of my time watching corn grow and studying the digestive patterns of pork.
I’m kidding too, of course
I went from downtown Chicago for 8 years to Iowa City, and will likely be here for a year, two tops. Iowa City is a great town, a surprising amount of culture and a TON of great bars and restaurants. Think Ann Arbor with a bigger downtown and more entertainment…
…but no Pistons fans. I did once see a young girl, maybe 12 or 13, wearing a Rasheed Wallace jersey in a local grocery store. It might be a little awkward inviting her over to watch a game, no?
