PG4L: You're nuts on this one. The ONLY thing he didn't do as a Piston to annoint him savior of this squad was get us out of the first round (again, something McGrady has struggled with but doesn't make him a bad player). That's also the only thing he did in terms of failing to meet expectations. Hill had one big mistake in rushing back from an injury which cost him the better part of 3 seasons and unlikely nagging troubles in '05-'06. The lower limb issues thus far have felled a major part of two Pistons' (Hayes and McDyess) careers and for a time, ruined their playing reputation. I could be exaggerating the exclusivity of this, but I'm pretty sure The Pistons were the only team in the NBA in the summer of '04 willing to throw 4 years and $22.5 million at McDyess. I think in hindsight, any NBA team would jump at that. You're treating Hill like he's still toxic due to injury and that's just ridiculous.

There's no case of homerism here, I assure you. I was furious at Hill when he left and it took me quite a while to get over it. Now I'm apathetic, as it's not like he was clamoring for a return to the D (boo), but he's still so damn good on an NBA court even with adapting to their tempo that suits him as well as it would Webber and I respect it. Lay off him PG4L :)

Sorry for the triple post but mortal embarassment will do that for you...

I managed to catch most of the Lakers/Celtics game tonight and umm... now I'm starting to actually worry about Boston a little bit. I mean LA was definately surging, and on paper should have given the Celts the same kind of test they faced vs us... but watching the game, it just wasn't all that close. Boston pretty much handled L.A in every facet of the game, and they looked like they had an arm basically EVERYWHERE whenever Kobe had the ball. It wasn't just that he couldn't shoot, PASSING was tricky.

I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off at some point, I mean everything the last 10 years of watching GMs build basketball teams in the NBA has taught us that this should NOT actually work. It might work for a while, but eventually one offseason and a tonne of cash DOESN'T usually seal the deal...

Yet Boston keeps winning. I know it doesn't mean anything come playoff time (see us 2 years ago, Dallas last year, etc) but really are these guys gonna win 65 games? I mean, wow.

Regarding Hill, I can't believe just because your team drafted him you're willing to ignore his complete inability to live up to expectations.... the fact is Grant Hill wasn't as advertised... just like the VAST majority of Duke stars aren't as advertised... I mostly just thought it was funny as hell that someone was quoting me Grant Hill as an example of someone who "succeeded" from Duke... go all homer if you want but the truth is the guy's career has been a big disapointment...

"Seriously Kevin, to quote someone else talking to me on here… I like you, your a smart cookie, but sometimes you run your fingers before your brain engages."

All I did was question whether someone can "hang" 18 points on a team. You'll never hear anyone say "wow, how did Detroit let Keith Bogans hang 14 on them last night?" For all Dunleavy's faults, he is clearly able to score 18 points on a give night. If he drops 30, call it out.

Somebody has to score for a .500 team. We weren't going to beat them 108-46. Their the Pacers not the... Well, I interrupt this programming to note that I Googled Maryland-Eastern Shore to find out who their mascot was...

The Hawks, it turns out. You cannot make that stuff up.

So I went to a backup, Northern Florida. Their mascot is the Osprey. What the hell?

And did you know that the logo for Stetson's team is just the Spartan logo with a cowboy hat on it? Taking a page out of Georgia's playbook, I suppose.

Mike Dunleavy is a good 2nd or 3rd option on offense. He can't carry a team, but he didn't carry the team at Duke when he was there.

PG4L? Luol Deng is having an off year for a team that just fired their coach who didn't have any imagination on offense.

Most Duke guys do their jobs, they are solid in what they do. Corey Maggette is a great athlete and any team would want him on their team if he didn't have such a bad contract. I'd take Maggette over any of the bench swingmen that the Pistons have had the last, oh I dunno, 10 years?

Just don't ask them to make good personnel decisions (Danny Ferry).

Grant Hill is having a great year so far. I was hoping he was going to sign with Detroit over the summer and would have welcomed him back with open arms (although there were plenty who wouldn't). I still have my Grant Hill: NBA Sensation VHS tape in my basement!

So much for the Celtics struggling on their West Coast swing.

The 2nd seed might be the best place for the Pistons though. I expect the Cavs to right the ship and make it to either the 4th or 5th seed. Let them and Boston fight it out in the Second Round.

I echo PG4L, joejoejoe and other Matt on the Lindsey front. He's not the same Lindsey Hunter we'd seen in years past. That guy was called on to do more and kinda folded under the overexposure. He averaged 14:18 while appearing in 52 of the 82 regular season games, not to mention 10:18 in 13 of 16 playoff games (Maxiell averaged 10:30 in 14 playoff appearances for context). This year Lindsey's been averaging 8:24 of burn in 16 of 30 games. He's on pace to play in 44 games with much fewer minutes and he needs it and it seems to be working. He's a fantastic end of the bench option

PG4L, going after Hill is ridiculous. I don't like to flat-out deny someone's claim on this place, I prefer to present my alternate viewpoint and let the community weigh in, but I just won't accept that knock on Hill, especially from a Pistons fan. The only thing is he's never gotten out of the first round, but neither has McGrady and he's a good player. Hill's career averages are: 19.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, and 5.2 apg. He's a career 48.3% shooter as a 6'8" (guard-)forward. Are you kidding me? That is a GREAT NBA player. The guy has played in at least 65 games in 7 seasons (hopefully 8 after this year). He got the Jarvis Hayes-Antonio McDyess bad rehab program shaft-o-matic. I know we can all be a little adversarial at times, but this is just not fair to diss Hill for his injury troubles. I'm happy to stay completely out of the Dunleavy Jr. debate, but a Grant Hill mea culpa is in order.
