Hi Fel, I saw parts of it, I think I was having dinner in the coffee shop of the Hard Rock. Every time I looked up at the TV, WV was scoring again. But I remember that 13-9 debacle against Pitt, and how this school plays in a 2d rate conference, and if they had won, like they were supposed to by 3 TDs or so, there's no doubt in my mind Miles would have gone to UM.

I'm willing to be proven wrong on this, but in my experience class will tell, and RR will be playing a much tougher schedule than he did at WV.

@ V - Did you watch the the West Virginia/Oklahoma game? Now imagine Michigan = West Virginia + Top 10 recruiting classes. Michigan basically just used a spread against Florida and we saw how that turned out (the game wouldve been a complete beatdown if you takeaway just the 2 Hart fumbles). I doubt UM will go 7-5 in even the first year of the coaching change much less multiple times.

Tim Legler giving the Pistons some love? Tim Legler?

As for UM, Martin should have ponied up the dollars and given Miles whatever he wanted. I mean, I think the group here is correct in noting it's the most prestigious football head coaching job in the country. I have the feeling Miles will be the next head coach anyway in a couple of years after RR goes 7-5 a couple of times.

The RR situation confuses me quite a bit. I mean what's the big deal, the guy left for a better job. More than ANYTHING else I'm somewhat insulted that WVU isn't willing to acknowledge that the UM job is exactly that... better.

I'm also a little disapointed in our media for not defending the guy, but I mean that is to be expected. We're finally joining "modern" college football and I was half expecting a bit of negativity no matter WHO we hired because the usual Michigan way is blind nepotism...I'm mildy suprised we survived a coaching search at ALL without major scandal/embarassment simply because the Wolverines have ZERO experience doing this sort of thing (and to be fair the search was neither stress free nor short and could DEFINATELY had lead to a potential embarassment for the Athletic Department if they hadn't pulled down a name as palpable as RR's).

As for the pro offence talk, whichever, PRO TEAMS aren't drafting those types of players anymore. Drew Bledsoe's day is over, it happened right infront of us. Michigan has consistantly looked slow on both sides of the ball for YEARS now. I'm ready for a change, and if that means we beat OSU 44-38 in a wild game where the lead changes hands 15 times, FINE.... WINNING is better than LOSING 10-3.

Keegan, I still think you're missunderstanding my motives here..:

“great Duke product” = not actual quote. Nice try, though.

The sarcasm/quotation marks aren't for you. They're for Duke.

Do you people WATCH college basketball? Hating Duke is a RELIGION guy... wait wait wait, I get it... you ARE a Dukie... okay fine, take my last 7-8 posts on this subject and WHEREVER you see the words "Duke, Duke product, Duke Graduate or Dukie" substitute "F&*king Tar Heel"...

makes way more sense to you now doesn't it?

(From a logic perspective there's no discussion anyways. Maggette is highly over-rated because despite being paid LIKE a player you can feature in an offence (1st/2nd option) he well, can't be featured in an offence... just like the blogger said, several days after I did in a drunken Mike Dunleavy Jr rant... just sayin yo)

18 and 6 is usually indicative of a "solid NBA player," as I described him. I'd take him over Dunleavy 6 out of 7 days of the week.

I'm not screaming that these guys are the franchise. Dunleavy and Maggette may very well be cases of the "Loy Vaught Syndrome," where playing big minutes on poor teams bloats the statlines of those unfortunate souls filling the rosters. B-Teamers who look All-Star quality compared to those surrounding them. Or, what Jarvis Hayes would probably be if he were starting on some bottom-feeder. Note how Maggette's averaging 20 a game, three points per game better than last year, with three more shot attempts per game than last year. Brand is out, and the offensive burden is distributed among the rest. Kaman looks like a freak this year because the only guys he'll fight for rebounds with is Al Thornton and the 6'6" Maggette. Kaman's a good player, but I'd like to see what happens to his production whenever Brand returns.

LVS came to be known as Abdur-Rahim Syndrome (ARS), and is currently known as Mo Williams Syndrome (MWS), until Dunleavy makes the title his own going into 2008.

I agree with you Boney. I think Rodriquez was a good hire, but I would have preferred someone like Jeff Tedford. Someone who still runs a pro-style offense.

I wouldn't have such a problem with Mike DeBord's offense if I could remember a time in the last decade that he ever called a slant pass. I'd be willing to bet that the last time UM threw a slant was when Tai Streets broke one against OSU. For the last ten years, it's been all deep crossing patterns and bombs. It's like an Al Davis offense.

WVU is not a top flight program in the grand scheme of things. A few years ago his conference was raided of all the top teams, leaving the Big East with really only WVU and a handful of stragglers and hangers on. For WVU's administration and their fan base to be so pissed off at Rich Rodriguez, it's pure blind homerism on their part. Michigan is the premier college football coaching job in the country, plain and simple. Going to michigan is like going to the Steelers or the Packers. 9 times out of 10, the coach stays for years and is consistently a winner or a team that can compete.

I was more sad to see Ron English leave UM than I was happy to see Rodriguez come in. I'm not a fan of the spread offense, I think it takes away from guys with true NFL ability. A guy like Ryan Mallet comes along once in a great while, and to see him possibly transfer out because he's not like Pat White is simply wrong.

PG4L and other UMers,

Is it just me being a homer or is the West Virginia vitriol being directed at Rich Rodriguez way excessive.

Yes, it was a bad situation. But, the blame for me goes to the whole system that puts so much of a premium on recruiting that a coach has to start doing it in December.

Also, they wouldn't even be in that BCS game with all those great athletes if it wasn't for him.

And it was the staff he brought in that was making all the play calls (boy did that game get me excited about our new coordinators!).

I find it funny that they hired Bill Stewart even though his whole staff is gone. I didn't hear the guy's press conference but if he didn't thank Rich Rodriguez for all he did for the University and paving the way for him, then he's classless.

(Note that has pretty much nothing to do with my point anyways, since really nobody is getting Corey Maggette as a backup. Keegan (who I mistook for Kevin) mentioned him as a "great Duke product" in another thread... which made me laugh because he's as over-rated as they come. Shawn Marion with way less heart, significantly less talent and even less basketball IQ. Additionally and completely SEPERATE from his over-ratedness...he's a Dukie.. which makes it okay to hate him even if he WERE good... which btw he is, in a backup or 3rd/4th option kinda way. Sorta like Luol Deng but with less jumpshot... still the same crappy defence and zero heart though, notice a trend here? Duke players not named Carlos Boozer = Have great strokes, zero heart, can't play defence and get drafted too early)

You just read a description of a primarily offensive player who can't run set offensive plays and you want to put him on a team coached by "Flip Set Offensive Play Saunders".

So your point was you should NEVER coach basketball?

We agree on SOMETHING.

You're proving what I've said already PistonsGirl. Thank you for that... In Detroit he'd be the best player coming off the bench that Detroit has, and with the scheme Detroit runs his lack of defense wouldn't hurt that much.

thanks for proving my point for me :)

I was also at the game last night, and would LOVE to sit with some Pistons fans for the Mar 23 contest (instead of the cadavers I sat with last night...typical Wiz fans, not even passionate enough to tell you opposing fans to f--- off). Let me know if anyone has got a section organized or something like that. I wanna get rowdy next time!
