The Pistons are in Orlando …

… and I hate 7pm games. I’m a half hour late with this, and the Pistons are already leading 24-17 with two minutes and change left in the first quarter. I bet I’m not the only one who forgot to double-check the game time, so if you’re just tuning in now, do your thing in the comments.

    Rodney Stuckey. Meet Dwight Howard.

  2. 2 Matt Gibson

Damn I was about to comment their playing hot potato right now but special k beat me to it.
Its felt like forever since a game has gone back and forth like this one

  3. 3 Diablo

Doesn’t it seem like both the Magic and the Pistons have about a hundred turnovers each?

  4. 4 Ben Q. Rock

Your free throws are really keeping you in the game.
I fully expect Detroit to come out with one of those 14-2 runs to start the third quarter…

  5. 5 joejoejoe

Crazy game so far. Detroit is getting to the line a ton on the road but turning the ball over a ton (8 so far and we’re in the 2Q). Orlando is shooting a high FG% and taking better care of the ball but the Pistons are making up for it from the line.

  6. 6 Quick Darshan

Rip’s been on fire for like a month. Chauncey’s getting mugged.

  7. 7 Quick Darshan

Does Dwight Howard have a small head or are his arms just that huge?

  8. 8 Ben Q. Rock

His arms are just that huge.

  9. 9 Prophecy_Projectz

Stuckey is a shooting gaurd not a point gaurd, for the love of god use or get a legitamite back up PG. They should have NEVER traded Arroyo.

Oh and what up Ben from the Hype

  10. 10 Quick Darshan

He looks like a Masters of the Universe action figure.

  11. 11 Quick Darshan

If Cleveland ends up with a better record than Orlando, who gets the three seed?

  12. 12 Ben Q. Rock

Chuck Norris has a Dwight Howard nightlight.

I am in no way comfortable with this lead. If the Bobcats can come back from 19 down to beat us, you all should be able to come back and beat us by about 22.

  13. 13 Ben Q. Rock

Cleveland would get the 3rd and the Magic would get the 4th; division winners can be seeded no lower than 4th, if I’m not wrong.

  14. 14 Quick Darshan

Sheed needs to be a little more selfish down low.

  15. 15 joejoejoe

I once wrote an email to my local sports columnist here in Florida telling him how wrong it was for the Magic to pick a HS kid over Emeka Okafor. I am officially stupid.

  16. 16 Quick Darshan

One must attack Brian Cook’s defense whenever one gets an opportunity.

  17. 17 joejoejoe

Mitch Kupchak fleeced Orlando dumping Brian Cook and Maurice Evans for Trevor Ariza. LAL got the better end of the talent AND the salary.

  18. 18 Quick Darshan

I like how they play that “Kill Bill siren” whenever they disagree with a call.

  19. 19 Ben Q. Rock

Yeah, the siren is a nice touch. It’s one of the few musical things I enjoy when I attend games at Amway.

“Cleveland would get the 3rd and the Magic would get the 4th; division winners can be seeded no lower than 4th, if I’m not wrong.”

Correct. But wow would I love a Celtics-Cavs 2nd round matchup.

  21. 21 Quick Darshan

Kevin S., I’m sure David Stern would love it too.

  22. 22 Quick Darshan

Turkoglu: Zero athletic ability, but damn if he’s not crafty.

  23. 23 kevin s.

Sign your team is in a slump. “The Pistons just cannot stop Hedo Turkoglu”… Yuck.

  24. 24 Diablo

kevin s. I was just about to comment on that same exact quote, we are not playing all that well.

  25. 25 James

Hey people.. I’ve missed the whole game and am just tuning in now.. Can someone fill me in on what has happened so far? Thanks..

  26. 26 kevin s.

“Kevin S., I’m sure David Stern would love it too.”

You can’t be serious. That is his nightmare. His girlfriend is already all but mathemtically eliminated. He needs that matchup as his EC Finals. Otherwise he might wind up with Spurs-Pistons again.

  27. 27 joejoejoe

James - Pistons had something like 10 turnovers in the first half and none since. Orlando shot great (Howard dunks) but Detroit got to the line a bunch. Thinks have returned to form in the second half.

  28. 28 Quick Darshan

    Yeah, kevin s., you’re right.

  29. 29 Diablo

    wow…..rip for 3…

  30. 30 Quick Darshan

James, it’s been a good game. Pistons have played fairly well outside of a stretch in the second when the bench came in and being unable to contain Turkoglu (who seems to have a great game every time I look at an Orlando box score).

  31. 31 kevin s.

Anyone up for a “Strange Wilderness” viewing party? Didn’t think so…

  32. 32 Prophecy_Projectz

Pistons really dont care about winning do they? lol

  33. 33 piñon lopez

please squeeze a win out pistons, please, for god’s sake.
just so you have something to go forward on!

  34. 34 piñon lopez

in and out of the rim wtf.. can’t complain about that shot.

  35. 35 Jason

    omg…mr. big shot…

  36. 36 Quick Darshan

    Wow.

  37. 37 Diablo

    wow…Chauncey for 3…crazy stuff tonight

  38. 38 kevin s.

    Holy s–t!

  39. 39 piñon lopez

yeah that was pretty damn clutch

  40. 40 James

OMFG Chauncey! That was from so far out!

  41. 41 Quick Darshan

A little travel before the shot.

  42. 42 Ben Q. Rock

  43. 43 Prophecy_Projectz

Rashard for the Win. I’ll call it

  44. 44 piñon lopez

no win for the magic. and yeah chaunce did a decent travel before that 3 ball

  45. 45 Diablo

Rasheed with a block. I’ll call it.

  46. 46 Boney

who said he wasn’t mr big shot

  47. 47 Quick Darshan

Great game. Give the Magic credit. They wanted this one.

  48. 48 Prophecy_Projectz

    Oh Shit I called it

  49. 49 piñon lopez

    damn that sucks!

  50. 50 lauren

    no way…

  51. 51 kevin s.

    DAMMIT!

  52. 52 Diablo

Rip shouldn’t have been guarding Rashard…

  53. 53 Boney

oh well, 3 games in a row lost. not a time to panic of course.

  54. 54 Matt Gibson

I didn’t think with the way we played defense that we deserved it. It was a fun game to watch but Rip should not have been on rashard. But oh well. We’ll get em back in a few days.

  55. 55 Prophecy_Projectz

5-6 since the 11 game win streak and the wins werent impressive either, I really wish they would get there stuff together. The wins havent even been impressive (Sans The Spurs one, who were struggling themselves). They need a better legit PG, that 2nd quarter collapse really hurt them. Its the same story the last few games.

    Watch them struggle against Philly….

  56. 56 Quick Darshan

Prophecy, the second quarter collapse wasn’t because of PG play. Stuckey was basically bringing it up and getting it in the post. He had two bad turnovers at the end of his shift, but by then Orlando had already caught up. It was just a matter of missing shots.

Stuckey had a nice driving layup in the second half and should have had an assist that Maxiell couldn’t finish.

“Give the Magic credit. They wanted this one.” -QD

And the Pistons didn’t? Really, with a 3 game losing steak now complete, it’s time for these guys to get their heads back on straight, make some free throws, and win games. Come one Sheed, 2-6 from the line. The stripe is a good indicator as to what type of mindstate a player is in. As of late, the Pistons haven’t been focused. Before you know it the Cavs will only be a few games back with half the season left to play. Giving up the cushion they had is inexcusable, and don’t give me any of that they’re not good with cushions crap!

  58. 58 Sauce1977

You can lead horses to water, but you can’t make them win.

I guess clutch and Detroit aren’t mutual these days.

  59. 59 LawyerBoy

Boney, taking nothing away from how absolutely spectacular and clutch that shot was, it’s the first time in quite a while that Chauncey came up with a big make on the Pistons’ last offensive possession. If you seriously believe your contention, I oppose, contending that once in a blue moon in the absolute latest stages of a game does not a Mr. Big Shot make. That name is a misnomer to me until he starts making more than he misses at that late of a juncture in the game. As for Chauncey Billups pre-90 seconds left in a game, no complaints.

As for the team, the Pistons’ defense was abysmal for much of the until the very last few possessions when it got miraculously hard-nosed and efficient. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I smell complacency at the moment on the defensive end. While Dice and Tay had very good offensive games, they were pathetic on defense. Turkoglu was torching Tay and Dice was late a lot, leading in some cases to very silly fouls. While I’m a big fan of Turkoglu, there’s no excuse for Tayshaun just getting repeatedly torched off the dribble. Stuckey was also awful and though it was only one game, his penchant for stupid passes worries me in terms of his decision making skills.

Sheed, Rip (especially on defense), and for the most part Chauncey played great games. Chauncey turned it over a bit much, but these three definitely held it down on defense (along with Afflalo for the short time he was in) when no one else who played significant minutes really did. Maxiell did all right (especially on offense), but he (like Dice) fouled way too much. The problem tonight was not offense as it seems to have been in recent games, but defense. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

While I want to make it clear that I am not panicked or worried in any way, I am frustrated and finding it difficult to watch games in their entirety. I used to take great joy in this earlier in the season. As of late, watching the Pistons in their entirety has turned into a great hardship for me because they can’t seem to put all of it together these days.

  60. 60 LawyerBoy

*the phrase at the beginning of the second paragraph was to read “much of the game”

and also re: Chauncey pre-90 seconds, I meant that pertaining to his general trend of play, not specifically tonight where he was great. That may be easily misconstrued. And even if I contend Chauncey is no Mr. Big Shot (or Mr. BS, as I like to think of the people who think he deserves that nickname), he’s playing great basketball, and I got no problems with his play.

  61. 61 Toledo Joe

Both teams played hard, I suppose (including Rasheed, look at his points, rebounds, and defense on Dwight Howard). Again, the bench didn’t do much. What is Jarvis Hayes’s shooting percentage in the last, say, 3-4 weeks? And I know it’s not all Stuckey’s fault, and that rookies will have ups and downs, but those two straight turnovers, were bad.

Normally, losing a nailbiter to a good team on the road wouldn’t be that worrying. Losing three in a row is a bit more annoying, and being 5-6 in the last 11 — well, we’ll see if it’s just January doldrums or something else. But Detroit WILL need more production from its bench if it wants to go further this year than in the last two.

To give credit where it is due, I have Hedo T. on my fantasy basketball team, and I can vouch for the fact that he’s having a really good year.

  62. 62 IsraeliPiston

I woke up, looked at the box score and asked myself how we could have lost this game?

The answer == defense - or lack of it

    Orlando shot over 50%!!!

    How many came off turnovers?

  63. 63 Ohad

If this is us trying to get back under the radar after the 11 game winning streak than i have to say that we are well under it right now and can start winning once again.
    Blah

  64. 64 athy

Rip is doing real good from the arc recently…
Sheed got season high in rebounds…
    Chauncey is still clutch…
but along we’ve got this 3 game losing steak.
    Frustrating…

  65. 65 IsraeliPiston

Look, the minutes of the starters are down and flip (maybe per Dumar’s instructions) is giving Stuckey, Maxiell and Hayes a lot of burn.

If we need to lose games but in return give the youngsters some playing time and experience then in the end we will be even better

I would like to see Hayes sit for a while and see what Herrmann can do defensively

Over the last 11 games I think that if Lindsey plays in place of Stuckey we win several games. I prefer that Stuckey learns under fire — even if he makes mistakes and errors — and even if it means we lose some games.

  66. 66 athy

To IsraeliPiston, Yes, totally agree with your say!
But just frustrating on the part that, some defeats we had are actual winable games… (except the Knicks one…)
