Pistons and Magic are playing early

The Pistons lost to the Magic for the first time in 10 games on Monday when Rashard Lewis banked in a shot in the final seconds. The Pistons will get their chance to start a new ridiculous streak against Orlando starting tonight. If you’re going to the game, ignore what your ticket may or may not say: the game was bumped up an hour to 7pm to accommodate ESPN (bonus for out-of-town fans).

As it happens, I’m actually headed out of town for the next couple of days, so consider this your official game post / weekend open thread. Here’s to hoping I come home to a two-game winning streak and an Amir Johnson double-double.

I want Detroit to provide Orlando a serious beating.

    Turn it on.

  2. 2 Sauce1977

Holy mini-echo, that feed needs audio work.

  3. 3 Sauce1977

There we go, the sound’s fixed.

  4. 4 yak

Shall we see Amir in the second? Rip keeps this up, we just may.

  5. 5 yak

P.S. I love seeing mini Ron Jeremy argue. Not sure why

  6. 6 Sauce1977

Nice shot, everything is firing well. And another steal!

  7. 7 Mark B.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m happy to see Mo Evans starting somewhere even if it is for another legit Eastern Conference competitor. I liked him when he was here…

  8. 8 Sauce1977

Seems like Howard’s the only one trying to rebound for Orlando.

If that continues, gonna be a seriously grim night for the Magic.

  9. 9 Quick Darshan

To all those that complain about the starters’ complacent attitude…

They just flashed a stat where the Pistons have the lowest number of games in the league where they’ve trailed after the first quarter.

  10. 10 Quick Darshan

    Amir in the first quarter.

  11. 11 Keegan

    What times we’re living in…

  12. 12 yak

I should have played the lotto. Nostradamus over here….Amiiiiiiir!!!!!!

  13. 13 Sauce1977

    Detroit! 39 points in the 1st - 17-22 FGs, .773, 2-2 3pts, 3-3 FTs.

I’ve never seen Detroit play this well, and I’ve never seen Orlando come out that dead defensively.

That had to be one of the best quarters Detroit’s had all year.

  14. 14 Sauce1977

Brian Cook, you silly fool, you shoot 3s, get your ass on the perimeter.

  15. 15 Keegan

This is hilarious. Flip’s just tossing all the subs in.

  16. 16 Sauce1977

I am most pleased that all these kids and subs are getting time.

  17. 17 Sauce1977

LOL. It’s not Jarvis’s night. Hayes has 3 fouls.

  18. 18 Matt Gibson

    Who wants Webber now?

  19. 19 Sauce1977

Come on, it’s gotta be Fabio’s turn. Put in Herrmann.

  20. 20 Keegan

Amir is busting his ass out there. He’s going to be force when he settles down and gets more comfortable with playing every night. Boundless energy.

  21. 21 walotnlikesmen1

AMIR!!! Two great blocks and a put back! 39 in the first, good to see the offense hitting on all cylinders.

I love Hubie, “The young guys are doing an excellent job”, he always seems to address the thoughts at the front of my mind.

  22. 22 Sauce1977

    50-25, 6:46 to go in the 2nd.

The kids and Rip are putting a greater margin up!

  23. 23 walotnlikesmen1

It’s funny how Rip will become the Pistons one-man offense when the rest of the team starts to struggle.

  24. 24 LawyerBoy

Funny what QD says about the Pistons and the first quarter, because Boston always takes the first half off. I mean, Minnesota is leading them a little over halfway through the first quarter. MINNESOTA! This is some seriously ridiculous play from the Stones.

I remember this team, the one with the best starting five in the NBA. Where they been the past couple weeks?

  25. 25 walotnlikesmen1

Yeah, after Jarvis’ display, I’d say Hermann should get a chance tonight. Then again, unless the score gets close, it wouldn’t be bad to let Jarvis get a few more minutes to just try to find a rhythm. His first couple of shots were the type that make you want to smack something though.

  26. 26 walotnlikesmen1

    I hate bail out calls!

  27. 27 Sauce1977

Detroit’s spent like all of January on the road. I’d also be worried if I was Boston, because they play a lot on the road in the 2nd half, and they play out West a bunch. To compare, Detroit’s pretty scattered for tough opponents and between home and road . . . Cleveland’s got pretty much the same schedule, a lot of East late in the year, but they play Detroit 3x including their last game.

  28. 28 walotnlikesmen1

Rip is our saving grace this period

  29. 29 walotnlikesmen1

    SAVING GRACE!

  30. 30 walotnlikesmen1

If Arroyo gets another easy lay-up…

  31. 31 Sauce1977

Rashard Lewis is currently 1-8 from the floor. That’s the wrong guy for Orlando to be having the bad night.

  32. 32 walotnlikesmen1

Wow, the Celtics gave up 30 in the 1st quarter to Minnesota, at home no less!

  33. 33 Sauce1977

    68 points. AWWW YEAH DETROIT!

  34. 34 walotnlikesmen1

    Rip’s a beast!

  35. 35 walotnlikesmen1

19 point lead at the half is great, but we still got outscored by two in the 2nd quarter. Not much to be concerned with considering our bench saw some good minutes. I’d really like to see this game put away in the third.

  36. 36 walotnlikesmen1

Let the 4th look like the 2nd did with the bench getting some more minutes.

  37. 37 Diablo

Wow…68 points at the end of the first half is incredible. I’m still a little disappointed with the play of Rodney Stuckey, he is obviously not having a good night.

  38. 38 walotnlikesmen1

Chauncey and Rip have and will continue to be the best backcourt in the league. Their combined skillset is scary. The only other pair of guards that I think even come close to comparing are Parker and Ginoboli or Baron Davis and Monte Ellis. I get to watch all the Warriors game so I get to watch the latter pair a lot, and let me tell you, Monte is going to be around for a long time.

  39. 39 Sauce1977

lol “AAOOOOOWWWW - GET DAT SHIT OUTTA HERE”

    I love Rasheed.

  40. 40 walotnlikesmen1

    Rasheed is such a throwback!

  41. 41 Sauce1977

Suddenly we went cold, and no Rasheed, lo and behold 11 in a row for the Magic.

  42. 42 Sauce1977

    Make that 13.

  43. 43 walotnlikesmen1

What is it that the Pistons need? A killer instinct. If you leave out that first quarter, we’d be losing right now. And why is Chauncey fucking up these end of the quarter plays? Talk about taking your foot off the gas.

  44. 44 Sauce1977

87-74, Detroit, end 3rd. Bring the smooth back for the 4th. Close this out cold genius.

  45. 45 walotnlikesmen1

HA HA, walotn, it could work. Kind of like Walton, kind of.

Man, after the first quarter I was thinking, “ahhhh, dry spell over”. After the third, I’m slowly growing aggrivated.

  46. 46 walotnlikesmen1

Anyone else wondering why Amir hasn’t been back on the court?

  47. 47 Sauce1977

Aw Steve Javie, way to try and get an outside shot for all those Orlando bets by 5thing Rasheed and jobbing him a tech.

At least you can’t rig 29 by Rip.

  48. 48 walotnlikesmen1

    I’m with sauce, Javie’s a joke.

  49. 49 walotnlikesmen1

HA HA, Chauncey just did the same thing B. Davis does at least four times a game and he picked up the T. Funny what qualifies for a T for the leading All-Star vote getters compared to the rest of the league.

  50. 50 walotnlikesmen1

Okay, I’m really with Sauce now. What the hell is with these calls. Shortening the gap is the only explanation.

  51. 51 walotnlikesmen1

Anyone know what the odds makers had Orlando at tonight? I’m sure these refs do.

  52. 52 Sauce1977

Just remember kids, the over/under was 193 and orlando was +7 tonight. Tell me there isn’t more than one Donaghy and I’ll lol.

  53. 53 walotnlikesmen1

Normally I’d be upset that the score got that close, but with the way those calls went in the fourth, I’m just thankful for that 39 point 1st quarter and the W.

  54. 54 walotnlikesmen1

    Agreed Sauce, agreed.

  55. 55 walotnlikesmen1

Off topic - either the Timberwolves are really turning things around, or the Celtics are looking more and more beatable everyday.

  56. 56 Pinball

Did anybody hear the comment Rasheed made to the refs when he went to the bench after his 6th foul? “Yeah… we all know what you’re trying to do out here!”

    Enough said.

  57. 57 walotnlikesmen1

The U.S., where the “magick bullet” theory happens.

The NBA, where the “rogue referee” theory happens.

  58. 58 Sauce1977
  59. 59 LawyerBoy

And Boston pulls it out as Minnesota collapses. What does Kevin Garnett do to celebrate? Jersey poppin’! Wow, your team just beat the worst team in the Western Conference by 1 point at home and you’re going to pop that jersey? I don’t care if you played there for 12 years or 1200 years, that’s just lame. Stay classy, Celtics.

  60. 60 Pinball

The perfect topper to our win would have been a Celtics loss to the T-Wolves…ah, but it was not to be. Boston pulled it out in the last few seconds. You should have heard their announcers talking about how good this was for Boston to have this pressure on them to pull the game out in the last few seconds. They said it was great practice for them for the playoffs. I’m thinking the competition will be a little stiffer then, …ya think?

  61. 61 Sauce1977

What’s funny to me is how the Feds are sitting on Donaghy while the sentencing keeps getting pushed.

Ol’ Timmay must be writing them a novel in the meantime.

Maybe that’s why these refs are hard at work with the fixes . . . they know they gotta sock it all away now because come August they’re gonna get yoinked.

  62. 62 walotnlikesmen1

HA HA, I couldn’t watch the game but I was curious as to what Boston’s reaction would be.

Forget conferences LB, isn’t Minnesota the worst team period? Could you imagine a Piston popping their jersey after a win like that? Hell no! They’d be pissed Minnesota was ahead with less than 24 seconds left in they’re building.

Funny thing is, I bet the media will just brush it over and show Garnett popping his jersey during their highlights. Don’t want to start criticising the team that is bringing in what has to be at least a 500% increase in revenues as compared to last season.

Bill Walton probably had piss running down his leg as he wathced that game. God forbid he’d have to go onto national television and actually concede that the Celtics and Garnett aren’t light years ahead of the rest of the league as their record might indicate.

  63. 63 LawyerBoy

WLM1, Walton flip-flopped on the Celtics being the better team than the Pistons during the course of a SINGLE game (I believe it was the first one, that we won in Boston). Walton’s a joke, like the Celtics. If they keep up this trend of taking the first half, the way Cleveland is playing right now, the Celtics may not get a sniff of the ECF.

Slightly related, Boston is 34-7 at their official midpoint. That means they’re on pace to go 68-14. When you take into account that they’ll most certainly lose at least seven games in just February and March alone, they should be happy to get to 65-17. I hope their fans don’t seriously expect a 39-2 back-end to the season. Even the Crack Staff has to have more sense than that. This team could very easily finish out the season 27-14, and barely break 60 wins.

  64. 64 LawyerBoy

    *taking the first half off

  65. 65 Sauce1977

If Boston goes plus 55 wins, they’ll be serious enough to consider.

Based on their first half, a minimum of 55 would be a free-fall, but the schedule was totally lopsided. If I was Boston, I’d be screaming at King Stern for sandbagging this shit so uneven.

  66. 66 Trader Jac

I watched the end of the Celtics game in disbelief. Garnett’s reaction and jersey popping should be just plain embarrassing to Boston fans. However, they’d probably spin it as “Oh, look how much intensity our team plays with against everyone!” Please. I also think that’s kind of a sad way for him to treat the remaining Minnesota fans I assume he still had.

On the other hand, our game was great. If Rip doesn’t make the All-Star team it’s a shame. And Amir’s stuff on Howard was amazing!

Oh, and this game was so rigged. Imagine how good we could be if we didn’t have to fight that kind of garbage all the time.

  67. 67 walotnlikesmen1

LawerBoy, I remember Walton doing that also. It was during the first game with Boston. At halftime he said that they should just give Boston the banner and be done with it. By the time the game was over he was saying how Detroit was the better team blah, blah, blah. Without a doubt, the guy’s a joke.

Trader Jac, I gotta say I agree with all three of your mini-paragraphs you posted. I know some of you have to remember that game against Miami during the Confernece Finals a couple years back. That one where Dick LaBetta(I think that’s his last name, the old bald guy) didn’t give Tayshaun the timeout when he was on the baseline, right after Chauncey had been mugged by Gary Payton. Detroit had been leading my twelve or something, and in the last minute and a half, the lead was down to three. Man that affected the point spread for that game, hmmm…

  68. 68 Garrett

I’ve been thinking about the whole Boston jersey poppin’ thing for a while (since they won at the Palace) and I think I’ve sort of mellowed on it. I can’t help but remember Magic Johnson passing the ball to Kareem for a skyhook from, like, half-court to win the FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON, and Magic jumped all over Cap like they won the championship. Kareem said, “WTF?” and Magic replied something like, “I’m gonna do this for 81 more games.” Is there really much difference with the jersey popping and celebrating of the Celtics? They want to win every game, as they should, and Kevin Garnett is as intense as they come. There was probably so much pent up emotion brewing over Minnesota that popping his jersey after the victory was probably nothing compared to what he would have liked to do. Anyways, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Downplaying the victory is just head games. A win is a win, and that should be exciting whether it’s against the Grizzlies, Pistons, or Timberwolves. That’s about the most defending of the Celtics you’ll get from me. Go Amir.

  69. 69 Sauce1977

    Man . . .

15 games in January. 10 road, 5 home. They’ve done 13. Tally 7-6, 5-4 on the road. There are 2 to go, @ Indiana, then home vs. the Lakers. A weak showing near .500 with a schedule in a month like this? That’s a weak showing? Look out world, Detroit’s just finished a crazy part of the schedule looking pretty rosy.

  70. 70 Kyle

    Thanks Sauce, for the inspiration.

    Stat Fun:

Tayshaun, Max and Cookie Jarvis are the only three Pistons to play all 44 games this season. Interesting they’ve also been the three to hit the most significant walls lately.

Chauncey’s 3.48 assists for every turnover is great, but Lindsey’s 4 are even better.

Oddly enough Herrmann is next with 3.

Amir and Max are at the bottom at 0.71. I personally think Amir’s a better passer, but once Max gets more comfortable with the double team his assists are certain to go up.

One of the Piston’s mpg has gotten above 35, which seemed to be the magic number everyone used as a ceiling. It’s Rip though, so i don’t mind his 35.3. It’s still something we should keep an eye on. He’s playing fantastic ball.

Tay is near the bottom of the team in steals with .45 per game, but he’s also only averaging 1.1 personal fouls per game.

Stuckey gets a steal a game, the kid plays D. Only Chauncey, Ra and Rip are better (in that order).

all stats were taken from espn.com

  71. 71 Quick Darshan

Okay, I’m starting to see why you all are so excited about Amir.

  72. 72 LawyerBoy

    QD, same.

  73. 73 LawyerBoy

Kyle - Just an interesting stat that has nothing to do with the Pistons that I took note of, but it’s still on the subject of the stats you posted (thank you for those). Sebastian Telfair has a respectable 2.95/1 assist to turnover ratio this season and averages 1.1 steals a game (which puts him .1 ahead of Rip).

Granted, he’s still on the worst team in the NBA (I couldn’t believe that a team who had just won back-to-back games earlier this week still had a worse record than 15-straight loss Miami) as WLM1 pointed out earlier in the thread, but maybe he’s not primed to be such a colossal bust. He is still only 22. Just something that surprised me. Thought the DBB community would like to know.

Garrett - This is the guy that threw a basketball at Antonio McDyess over him tangling with Madsen. It was a tie game in Minnesota just past midway in the 4th. Garnett got himself and McDyess ejected, and we went on to win. There’s a thin line between passionate and detrimental, and Garnett’s history says he teeters dangerously. And Pierce? I don’t think I have to explain. On the other hand, if James Posey would like to jersey pop, at least he has a ring.

  74. 74 walotnlikesmen1

I’m sorry, but jersey popping is for guys that haven’t won anything. Jersey popping is a college and high school fad. I call it a fad because that shit had fallen off as of late. Of course, now with the media showing nothing but images of KG and Paul Pierce popping their jerseys, mixed with the large number of Boston bandwagoners that’ve popped up this year, I sadly see jersey popping coming back a little.

Can’t wait for those playoff games in Boston. Everytime they show the crowd after a Boston bucket, every person in a jersey will be popping the stitches out of it. I tell you, I can’t wait.

I can’t wait to see all of those popped up jerseys deflate as Rip pours in jumper after jumper, Sheed takes KG to school (the old one of course), and Chauncey leaves Rondo curled up in the phetus position.

  75. 75 Matt Gibson

I think its time for me to give Flip Saunders his due. I’ve been one of those people that’s never really liked him but this season, so far, he’s proven to me that he is trying to win a championship not regular season games.

This year hes giving the bench a chance. Who thought coming into this season that Arron Afflalo would still be getting time and having a good impact when he comes in. Plus that hes decided to play Amir and he’s now said that you have to play D to stay on the floor (*cough* Hayes *cough*) it can only be for the better. I never thought that he would try Hermann on Dirk. And even if Stuckey has been bad, he’s still giving him that chance since he knows he’ll help come playoffs.

The starters minutes are down, the rotation is deep and the Pistons look poised to win a championship since the year they actually won. I’m sorry Flip Saunders for all my bashing. You’ve proved me wrong… for now.

  76. 76 B-Ball Fan

Go see this video. It’s hilarious!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0an1zGcLMA

  77. 77 Matt Gibson

Oh and did anyone else hear Rashard or Dwight say “The ball don’t lie” to rip with like a minute left in the game?

  78. 78 Ohad

    three things:
1)LB - Telfair had this movie made about him when he was in high school. he was a great player then and seemed to just not fit well in the NBA so far. nice to see him improving
    2) I hate to say it but stuckey isn’t playing well at all. I don’t know what needs to change but he’s lucky we’re playing as well as we are or he’d be watching the games from the end of the bench.
    3) Sheed almost got a second T after he had already gotten fouled out. does anybody know what woulda happened if he had? i thought i heard the announcers talk about it but i wasn’t sure…

  79. 79 Quick Darshan

MG, finally someone joins Lawyerboy and myself as Flip supporters. I was beginning to think that it was that LA smog infecting our brains.

  80. 80 walotnlikesmen1

Matt, I didn’t hear that, but I do know that, along with the ball, numbers also aren’t in the habit of lying.

    Rashard: 3-16 (13 pts)
    Rip: 14-22 (32 pts)

Forget Jesus Shuttlesworth, Rip’s the truth.

BTW: Ray Allen is the one Celtic that I have nothing but respect for. His jumper is one for the ages.

  81. 81 walotnlikesmen1

As for Flip, he’s exceeded my expectations this season. Over the summer, most of the Pistons coverage was revolving around re-signing Chauncey. Once that was done, all of the attention was placed on the youth brought in and how our summer league team was showing good signs with J-Max losing nearly thirty pounds and Stuckey giving us a glimpse of what is hopefully to come.

I know that I’ve been upset with some of the recent play, but, in October, if you would’ve told me that Detroit would have thirty wins half way through the season while developing their bench, along with the starters seeing less minutes, I’d take it in a second.

Have to give Flip credit for allowing some of these young guys to get into the rotation, especially in a city that does expect to win and play at a certain level. I mean, damn, a three-game skid had a lot of fans, myself included, scratching their heads.

Yeah, he’s shown himself to have his share fair of faults over the last couple of seasons, but I think Flip is doing as good a job as you could ask of him at this point.

I saw an interesting stat this morning that said the Pistons lead the league in leads after the 1st quarter. It might be a stretch, but that does indicate that Flip has been getting the guys ready for games.

  82. 82 walotnlikesmen1

    *fair share

  83. 83 Matt Gibson

I think this year the Pistons are doing so well in the first is because the starters know they dont have to pace themselves. They know that the bench is going to come in and they are going to get some rest. So the starters can go all out in the 1st and whenever they are out there.

  84. 84 Sauce1977

Before I hand out praise to Flip, I need to see him do the things he does in crucial moments.

I won’t forget that when Chauncey missed the 2nd free throw late in the Boston game, and somehow Chauncey rebounded it, then was a great time to call the time-out. Instead, Billups is out there, no one seems open, and he takes a ridiculous shot that airballs. That’s Flip, right there, and even in a minority it outweighs the majority.

    The examples are endless.

  85. 85 Kyle

I will give Flip credit for a great season so far, but the 64 win season didn’t get us to the finals either. He has a lot of diverse and incredibly talented people on the team right now. This is the best opportunity he’s ever had to win a championship, i hope he’s up to it.

  86. 86 walotnlikesmen1

Off topic - Dwayne Wayde named as an All-Star starter is a ******* joke!

  87. 87 Garrett

LawyerBoy: That’s just one isolated incident in KG’s entire career (re: throwing the ball at McDyess). He has had nothing but an EXEMPLARY career for a hall of fame power forward and part of his success has to come from his passion and drive. Pierce, yeah, he doesn’t have much to brad about (except individual statistical success) so the jersey popping from him is more annoying. I still don’t think it’s all that much to get worked up about though, after putting it perspective with Magic Johnson and his exuberance. Granted, none of these Celtics are Magic, but I’m just trying to give them a LITTLE slack for getting excited. Maybe Magic would have popped his jersey in 1980 if that was the thing to do?

  88. 88 Garrett

    (brad = brag)

  89. 89 Sauce1977

I woulda hoped KG would be fist-pumpin’ and jersey-poppin’ after a 130-55 beatdown of a sick club that should be contracted.

  90. 90 Pinball

I know this is off subject, but here goes:

Why are the Pistons called the “stones”?

What is that blue wristband that Mike Abdenour wears? At first I thought it was like one of those punk dog collar type things from back in the 80’s. (And I thought…that’s odd, why would he be wearing something like that?) From farther away it looks like it has spiky things on it. Then during one of the previous games, I got a closer look and it looks almost like it has nails threaded through it or bolts. Any thoughts? Just wondering . . .

  91. 91 Rob G

Abdenour’s ready at a moment’s notice to work under the direction of Arnie Kander. He has bolts on his wrist to insert into either a) Jarvis’ knees b) Dice’s knees c) Lindsey’s ankles.

  92. 92 siegfried

Pistons, Pi-ston(e)s = ‘Stones. KG has ALWAYS had a problem with his mouth, if he could back it up, Saunders would have a trophy by now. I think Boston has every right to woof it up over every regular season victory if that’s their thing. It just makes it that much easier to loathe them.

  93. 93 LawyerBoy

I echo everything siegfried said. I love this quote:

“KG has ALWAYS had a problem with his mouth, if he could back it up, Saunders would have a trophy by now”.

Sorry Garrett, but KG’s a punk. All the citizenship awards and the sports media-driven praise of him being “exemplary” is all fine and good (and from reports, he seems like a solid, charitable guy off the court, kudos to him), but on the court, he’s a chump. He’s a great player, but he’s missing that winning instinct, a combination of passion coupled with control, the part he’s missing (for the combination of both see: these Pistons at their best). Garnett is always screaming and hollering and when he does, he looks rather violent, as opposed to just looking pumped up. I think that it shows a lack of control, the same problem Paul Pierce’s constantly running mouth has. These cats are too emotional and can’t check themselves when they need to. I’d be remiss if I didn’t add that I believe Rasheed and Chauncey (less so in his actions and more so in his selfish decisions) have both struggled with this problem at times in a Pistons jersey, but they seem to have locked it out this year.

Garnett’s a great individual talent. But he’s only a few months short of 32, and he’s already played 12 and a half seasons! How’s he going to hold up mentally (where I’m arguing he’s already weak) when he starts to get physically worn out in the playoffs?

At this point, I just don’t see how Boston has the tools (if you’ve ever worried about Flip Saunders, imagine having the never-made-it-out of the first round DOC RIVERS as your coach) to take 4 of 7 from us in the playoffs.

For a perfect and more professional summation of my thoughts, see Chris McCosky’s blog (http://info.detnews.com/redesign/blogs/pistonsblog/index.cfm?CFID=19049329&CFTOKEN=10922905)

specifically the “Random Stuff” entry from Tuesday, beginning with the 4th paragraph.

Off topic, but I live in the greater-Boston area and I have an anecdote as to how popular the Celtics have become here:

I was at a restaurant last night that had two televisions. One had ESPN on (Pistons game!), the other had boxing on, not sure what channel. There was a Celtics game going on at the same time, but you wouldn’t have known it. I was there until about 9 and the Celtics game started at 7:3, but nobody ever bothered to change the station on either TV.

A few weeks ago, I had a similar experience at a different restaurant- coincidentally, there was a nationally-televised Pistons game that night, too- but that time they switched over to the Celtics game during the second quarter.

Small sample size, but I think that pretty much sums up the general attitude toward the Celtics here.

Interesting link on Mr. Javie at Need4Sheed. Sounds like Sheed isn’t the only one in his fan club.

Rob G - Arnie’s always cutting edge, isn’t he? Special water for the players, sci-fi chambers for them to exercise in, etc. You never know what he will come up with next.

Siegfried - Thanks for the info.

    Siegfried: Re: Pistons = Stones

Geez, I guess I feel a little silly. I was hoping for a more romantic answer, i.e., Chuck Daly is a Rolling Stones fan, he meets them, etc., etc. I didn’t figure it was more or less a spelling answer.

It really started picking up steam after MSU athletes from Flint started calling themselves “the Flintstones.” Copycats took their cue from there.

The anonymous Boston guy is right. I live about 30 miles from there and tell people Boston is a mediocre sports town … but a great political town. They love taking sides and having someone to hate. Sports only has meaning for them if it gives them a means to inflict misery and abuse on hated rivals like New York and L.A.

Perhaps Boston’s basketball recognition will improve after the Super Bowl and the aftermath has completed. I doubt if Boston fans will ignore the Celtics and move right on to the Red Sox. Having a team with a chance to have a perfect NFL season is a pretty large distraction for any city of any size in any part of the US.

i dont know much about Boston, but it seems to me they love the Celtics. They sellout every game this year and the arena is REALLY PACKED all the time..and even when the team sucked they still had pretty good attendance

Speaking of Boston, Brian Cook is scorching the Celtics right now. Dwight Howard has also sent shots from both Ray Allen and Rondo into the stands.

  102. 102 waltonlikesmen1

Wow, Orlando enters the fourth up ten, by the time the game gets to the 8 minute mark, the Celtics have a one point lead. KG isn’t playing and Dwight Howard hasn’t gotten a touch in the paint. Pretty hard to watch a team just shoot themselves in the foot.

  103. 103 waltonlikesmen1

HA HA HA! Paul Pierce just took a game-winner right in his face.

  104. 104 Pinball

So, did Hedo pop out his jersey after today’s W over Boston?

  105. 105 Pinball

Boston might want to rethink that jersey poppin’ thing. What’s their record on the next game after they do that?

  106. 106 Quick Darshan

Jeez, how many game winners does Turkoglu have this year?

I looked at Boston’s schedule. They have a two rough patches with five road games in a row. One in Feb (@Den, @GS, @Pho, @Por). And one in March (@SA, @Hou, @Dal, @NO).

I’m guessing Cleveland’s going to be the three seed. This is where Detroit needs to make up ground on the 1 seed.

Well good news for some. Webber is going back to where it all began…

    Golden State!?!?

I wish CWebb well but am also glad he wont be coming in to swoop up Amirs new found minutes.

  108. 108 V

Fel beat me to the link, but is it clear now why Flip had that alleged conversation with Joe D.?

  109. 109 Sauce1977

Man, that’s really going to help out the defensive problem GS has, Webber’s signing.

  110. 110 Ohad

Won’t their run and gun attitude suffer by turning into a limp and gun? that doesn’t sound half as impressing :)

  111. 111 Rob G

He really wouldn’t be playing for a championship there. I wonder what the motivation is, other than getting back on the court?

  112. 112 Kyle

i think joe d. made that statement to help chris up his resale value.

i think c-webb signed with the warriors because no one else in the league was desperate enough to sign him.

i know i’ve been anti-c-webb as a piston lately, but this just makes me sad. i can’t possibly imagine a scenario where he could have success in golden state.

perhaps if they try a whole new brand of basketball where their center never leaves the offensive side of the court.

  113. 113 Fel
  114. 114 Rob G

    Fel - that’s a bit rough, bro.

  115. 115 Sauce1977

    Fel, that ruled.

    Hahahaha.

  116. 116 Mike Payne

Fel- I just spit cereal through my nose. Hahahaha.

  117. 117 Fel

In all seriousnessness, I would love to see CWebb get a ring, as long as it doesnt come at the Pistons expense.

And it will be very interesting to see how he fits in on GState, I’ll definitely try and tune in to a game to see.
