What the hell. Is that guy reporting white or black? He is the goofiest looking dude I have seen with that hair. If he’s white that makes it all the more worse because of that hair.

Honestly, I’m a little bummed at the tone of these comments. Travis is actually one of the best writers over at HW, which to me is more important than his race or hairstyle (which I actually think is cool). Maybe you guys didn’t mean much by it, but still…
Matt, don’t worry, if I anything I’m the one that should be clowned for making fun of a guy who is obviously going somewhere in the world while I sit here writing posts that amount to nothing. Never met the dude in my life and probably never will. Props to him for trying to make it as a sportswriter. I didn’t mention his race, never would.
I’m from northern California, Humboldt County to be precise. You don’t know how many people like their hair to be nappy looking like that. It really is a look that middle-class white stoner kids seem to take on. I’m not disrespecting his writing abilities or anything, just his choice of shirts and haristlye. Good writer or not, he’s got the highschool girl or lazy stoner that just threw on a nice shirt look going for him. He clearly isn’t either one (maybe he smokes weed, but he can’t be that lazy if he’s a writer for that site), so why try to look like it?
Let me just start by saying I agree with Matt 100%. Ronnie, WLM1, not the DBB way. We don’t take pot shots at a guy for his appearance. Would we make fun of the spot on Rasheed’s head or would we lovingly and insightfully debate what exactly it is?
Further, as a self-acclaimed style expert, Travis has a white-guy hippie thing going on with the long dreads and the casual sweater. Plenty of guys that I’ve met rocking that style are extremely insightful and/or passionate basketball fans. I think the style works for him (though for myself I’d go nowhere near it), and clearly he’s doing his job if he has Matt’s praise as a writer.
Addressing what Nazr said, I love how he doesn’t dwell on the way we mistreated him. He believes enough in his abilities and just accepts that he didn’t get a fair shake in the rotation. He sees it for what it is, a reflection of our organization, not his play.

LawerBoy, I’m glad you’ve had those experiences, means nothing to me since I’ve met many lazy stoners that like to sit around and listen to themselves talk with that look. Point is, none of that pertains to the guy I made fun of. Besides, what makes your experiences with those guys’ rocking that “stlye” a more viable point than mine about the lazy stoners? I never questioned the guys basketball knowledge, work ethic, anything that should bother HIM, let alone have random guys on a website sticking up for him. Not the DBB way? Please! I’ve read and posted a fair share of bashing on this website. No potshots? Well, if the guy you’re bashing wears a celtics jersey or is named Kobe, it becomes an exception then? Matt, you did refer to Mr. Bryant as a female comic book villian, did you not? IMO, it’s all in good fun. But if highschool level insults got to you growing up, I’ll personally try to restrain myself next time and respect the emotionally delicate members of this sight. It’s a cold, cold world out there…good to see some people acting as warm blankets.
Isanely dissapointed. After the hair/shirt debate I was expecting the guy to look like a Latino version of Screetch from Saved By the Bell (oh HELLZ yes I just admitted how old I am)….
On a side note I appreciate most HS level insults, its just that guy wasn’t bad looking enough to earn the burn, therefore it wasn’t funny. You’d have been MUCH better to go for the “rejected extra from Encino Man” angle on that style…

Truth be told, the guy is not quite Alex Acker level unattractive (who in a thread a looooooong time ago I mockingly called a “C-rate Terrence Howard” in response to PG4L more or less fawning over him, sorry PG4L), but he’s not David Beckham either. Getting on point, Ronnie’s original “goofiest looking dude” comment was not only irrelevant to the subject matter of Matt’s post, but lacking in wit, tact and is starting to become viewed here as debatable in terms of accuracy. I just want to give light to that.
You don’t have to pay a ton of attention around here to know that I live in LA (it comes up all the time, especially since we just played the Lakers), and that’s a place that’s probably just a bit more left-wing (that usually means, you know, peaceful, accepting of people, their differences, of mistakes made, and of change) than Humboldt County. And you’re right when you muse that I don’t have anything better to do than expend energy on the subject.
For me, if I can convince just one person to examine their own immaturity, it’s worth it. That block had me pretty pumped, especially after it led to such an easy lay-up at the other end. The bench is really creating its own identity and leaving its impact on the games lately. That defense was great too. The quick fouls in the 2nd were annoying, but I liked that they remained aggressive and didn’t give up the amount of easy shots that they usually do.
With that kind of defense and the upcoming schedule, I think the Pistons have a pretty good chance of heading into the All-Star break with a 10-game winnng streak under their belts.
How about Jarvis harassing Dirk into airmailing a three ball?
If Jarvis can contribute good defense, I don’t have a problem with his shot selection.

I’m really sorry your time in Piston’s land was unsuccessful. IMHO you’d have been better off if people weren’t expecting you to replace Ben Wallace and/or Sheed was as motivated as TD. Otoh, don’t lie, 30 million is WAY more than you ever thought you’d make playing basketball and if you keep up with the double doubles in Cha some fool will probably line up with ANOTHER 30 over five, and that’s gonna last you and yours forever because you aren’t a sucker kid who’d spend it all….
