What the hell. Is that guy reporting white or black? He is the goofiest looking dude I have seen with that hair. If he’s white that makes it all the more worse because of that hair.
Honestly, I’m a little bummed at the tone of these comments. Travis is actually one of the best writers over at HW, which to me is more important than his race or hairstyle (which I actually think is cool). Maybe you guys didn’t mean much by it, but still…
Matt, don’t worry, if I anything I’m the one that should be clowned for making fun of a guy who is obviously going somewhere in the world while I sit here writing posts that amount to nothing. Never met the dude in my life and probably never will. Props to him for trying to make it as a sportswriter. I didn’t mention his race, never would.
I’m from northern California, Humboldt County to be precise. You don’t know how many people like their hair to be nappy looking like that. It really is a look that middle-class white stoner kids seem to take on. I’m not disrespecting his writing abilities or anything, just his choice of shirts and haristlye. Good writer or not, he’s got the highschool girl or lazy stoner that just threw on a nice shirt look going for him. He clearly isn’t either one (maybe he smokes weed, but he can’t be that lazy if he’s a writer for that site), so why try to look like it?
Let me just start by saying I agree with Matt 100%. Ronnie, WLM1, not the DBB way. We don’t take pot shots at a guy for his appearance. Would we make fun of the spot on Rasheed’s head or would we lovingly and insightfully debate what exactly it is?
Further, as a self-acclaimed style expert, Travis has a white-guy hippie thing going on with the long dreads and the casual sweater. Plenty of guys that I’ve met rocking that style are extremely insightful and/or passionate basketball fans. I think the style works for him (though for myself I’d go nowhere near it), and clearly he’s doing his job if he has Matt’s praise as a writer.
Addressing what Nazr said, I love how he doesn’t dwell on the way we mistreated him. He believes enough in his abilities and just accepts that he didn’t get a fair shake in the rotation. He sees it for what it is, a reflection of our organization, not his play.
“Plenty of guys that I’ve met rocking that style are extremely insightful and/or passionate basketball fans”
LawerBoy, I’m glad you’ve had those experiences, means nothing to me since I’ve met many lazy stoners that like to sit around and listen to themselves talk with that look. Point is, none of that pertains to the guy I made fun of. Besides, what makes your experiences with those guys’ rocking that “stlye” a more viable point than mine about the lazy stoners? I never questioned the guys basketball knowledge, work ethic, anything that should bother HIM, let alone have random guys on a website sticking up for him. Not the DBB way? Please! I’ve read and posted a fair share of bashing on this website. No potshots? Well, if the guy you’re bashing wears a celtics jersey or is named Kobe, it becomes an exception then? Matt, you did refer to Mr. Bryant as a female comic book villian, did you not? IMO, it’s all in good fun. But if highschool level insults got to you growing up, I’ll personally try to restrain myself next time and respect the emotionally delicate members of this sight. It’s a cold, cold world out there…good to see some people acting as warm blankets.
Isanely dissapointed. After the hair/shirt debate I was expecting the guy to look like a Latino version of Screetch from Saved By the Bell (oh HELLZ yes I just admitted how old I am)….
On a side note I appreciate most HS level insults, its just that guy wasn’t bad looking enough to earn the burn, therefore it wasn’t funny. You’d have been MUCH better to go for the “rejected extra from Encino Man” angle on that style…
Matt and LawyerBoy agree with you PistonsGirl4Life, they think he’s a good looking as well. Hell, LawyerBoy declared himself a “self-acclaimed style expert”.
WLM1, I am a (worthy) self-proclaimed style expert. There’s no need to front with any phony homophobic machismo to impress your frat brothers. And if you’re sincere in your apparent homophobia, I sincerely (or sarcastically) thank you for these last 7 years we’ve suffered through George Bush.
Those of us interested in furthering intelligent Pistons-NBA discourse here don’t bash unoffending parties. If you want to do it WLM1 that’s your choice, it’s just that you’d be acting immature and in a general jackass fashion. The guy isn’t asking for it. And like PG4L said, at least bring it if you’re going to sing it. You piggy-backed off an already lame shot from Ronnie. If it had been Kobe, anyone from the Crack Staff, or any anti-Pistons smack talker, then it’d be fair game. Some dude minding his own, doing his job, interviewing Nazr, is not asking for it.
And what happened to Humboldt being a left wing-leaning place? Obviously that’s not your style if you’re a California resident who clearly knows nothing about marijuana.
So, if I’m not a huge fan of homosexuals, it means that I voted for or support George Bush? Anyone from Humboldt County is supposed to be “left wing”? I’d like for you to explain what left wing means to you. BTW, I’ve never voted and I’m not registered, but do plan to do so and vote for Obama, but that really is besides the point. Also, I’m not in college and have never been associated with a fraternity. Damn, all of your assumptions have been off so far. Let’s continue. Really, I’m not homophobic, but you’re right, I’m immature. But homophobic or not, it’s not hard to tell you either have nothing to do to expend this type of energy on this topic, or you REALLY DO have a thing for this guy. Nothing wrong with that, really, you should consider moving out here, you’d like it. And wow, you’re pretty ignorant assuming you know the political views of any Californian with a weed habit.
WLM1, so you are actually old enough to vote, really? Wow. “You’re so homo”? Good one. If you want to think that about me, be my guest. I won’t lose any sleep over it. Truth be told, the guy is not quite Alex Acker level unattractive (who in a thread a looooooong time ago I mockingly called a “C-rate Terrence Howard” in response to PG4L more or less fawning over him, sorry PG4L), but he’s not David Beckham either. Getting on point, Ronnie’s original “goofiest looking dude” comment was not only irrelevant to the subject matter of Matt’s post, but lacking in wit, tact and is starting to become viewed here as debatable in terms of accuracy. I just want to give light to that.
You don’t have to pay a ton of attention around here to know that I live in LA (it comes up all the time, especially since we just played the Lakers), and that’s a place that’s probably just a bit more left-wing (that usually means, you know, peaceful, accepting of people, their differences, of mistakes made, and of change) than Humboldt County. And you’re right when you muse that I don’t have anything better to do than expend energy on the subject.
For me, if I can convince just one person to examine their own immaturity, it’s worth it. For someone who is so quick and ardent in defending their liberal, “pro-Obama” viewpoint, you clearly don’t understand much of what he’s about. Born in Hawaii to a Kenyan and an American, living much of his youth in Indonesia with his American mother and Indonesian stepfather, he’s a real life melting pot, what America is supposed to be about. Dude just does not fit in some classic “Presidential” mold. America has homosexuals; it has heterosexuals who aren’t afraid to call a guy good looking. America has pot smokers who are lazy, ones who work hard, ones who couldn’t give a rip about basketball and ones who love basketball. Hell, it even has plenty of fraternity brothers who aren’t full of phony machismo. Last I checked though, we were here to talk about basketball, but I guess you wanted something different.
Apparently you wanted me to clearly explain why I’m so much more awesome than you, but you should probably stop giving me a platform for such discussion so we can get back to the basketball. Maybe we can talk about what was discussed between Travis and Nazr, namely how Nazr addressed his time with the Pistons.
LA, the leftist, peaceful valley where everyone loves each other. Man, I never realized that Utopia was just a day’s drive south. Please, leave yourself with at least a shred of credibility. I actually just turned 18 a few months back, so yeah, I’m old enough to vote, but barely. Funny how you went from assuming I’m in a frat, which would make me at least an 18 year-old college student, but now you’re surprised that I’m of voting age. Something tells me you’re not much of a poker player.
But really, the funny thing about this is, you started going off about me being a homophobic bigot, after I implied that you were a metrosexual. Last time I checked, metrosexuals aren’t gay, they just act like it. Accusing me of being homophobic for likening you to a metrosexual is an incorrect criticism on your part. Come on buddy, your’re looking like an ignorant guy who uses played out steroetypes to group people together. You referred to me defending me “liberal” viewpoint, which I never claimed to have. I don’t really know what my politcal perspective is, at least how it should be categorized because I have some shit I’m conservative on, and some shit I’m liberal on.
So, am I to assume that I am full of “phony machismo” for allowing myself to be ammused by the idea of guys loving other guys? It’s not that I’m a homophobic conservative that has a vendetta against homosexuals. Really, I’m indifferent on the matter. While I dont’ really understand the concept of a man choosing another man over a woman, I’m tolerable of it and think that they deserve every right and freedom that every other human being is rightfully entitled to. That doesn’t mean there isn’t humor to be found in it. As for lesbians, I’m like a lot of other 18 year-old guys, I think lesbians are awesome!
All in all, you’re right…We’re here to talk about basketball, something we’ve both strayed from. So I’ll let this be my last post on this issue if you can manage to do the same and not have to have the last word in a squabble with an immature 18 year-old. Please allow me to apologize to you and your loved ones who have suffered through these last 7 years of Bush, that was my bad. Hopefully I will live to see the day that I enjoy the smell of my own bodily gasses as much as you do.
WLM1, just so you know, if I could meet myself at 18, I’d probably want to kick that guy’s ass.
Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about Nazr, but I suppose I can digress into the Mavs game a bit. How outrageous was that Amir block? Athletic freak, that boy is.
LawyerBoy, just so you know, I understand and concede that I’m 18 year-old kid who is ignorant to most of the ways of the world. Just be clear, if you think you have the intellect to stimulate my maturation process, you’re at serious risk of drowning in your own arrogance. Anyways…
That block had me pretty pumped, especially after it led to such an easy lay-up at the other end. The bench is really creating its own identity and leaving its impact on the games lately. That defense was great too. The quick fouls in the 2nd were annoying, but I liked that they remained aggressive and didn’t give up the amount of easy shots that they usually do.
With that kind of defense and the upcoming schedule, I think the Pistons have a pretty good chance of heading into the All-Star break with a 10-game winnng streak under their belts.
You realize at some point I just kept scrolling…..
Dear Nazr,
I’m really sorry your time in Piston’s land was unsuccessful. IMHO you’d have been better off if people weren’t expecting you to replace Ben Wallace and/or Sheed was as motivated as TD. Otoh, don’t lie, 30 million is WAY more than you ever thought you’d make playing basketball and if you keep up with the double doubles in Cha some fool will probably line up with ANOTHER 30 over five, and that’s gonna last you and yours forever because you aren’t a sucker kid who’d spend it all….
All in all Nazr your living the American Dream so enjoy it… and with any luck someone will send you an EC Champs hat and tickets to all the finals games.
What the hell. Is that guy reporting white or black? He is the goofiest looking dude I have seen with that hair. If he’s white that makes it all the more worse because of that hair.
HA HA HA HA HA AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH HA HA HA!!! He looks like a highschool girl that never found a bottle of shampoo that worked for her.

Also buddy is actually very good looking… no really.
Matt and LawyerBoy agree with you PistonsGirl4Life, they think he’s a good looking as well. Hell, LawyerBoy declared himself a “self-acclaimed style expert”.
Good to see Pistons fans have embraced both the blue-collar mentality along with metrosexuality. Can’t wait to see where this road takes us…
WLM1, I am a (worthy) self-proclaimed style expert. There’s no need to front with any phony homophobic machismo to impress your frat brothers. And if you’re sincere in your apparent homophobia, I sincerely (or sarcastically) thank you for these last 7 years we’ve suffered through George Bush.

Seriously dude, in all maturity, you’re so homo!
This is a depressing thread. I saw 12 comments under something about Nazmo and I thought I’d read something other than brainrot tripe. Stop it.
WLM1, so you are actually old enough to vote, really? Wow. “You’re so homo”? Good one. If you want to think that about me, be my guest. I won’t lose any sleep over it. How about Jarvis harassing Dirk into airmailing a three ball?
If Jarvis can contribute good defense, I don’t have a problem with his shot selection.
