I’m not even sure there are any Pistons in that video. As my title suggests, this is 100% pure, unadulterated filler, intended solely to knock a dated game post off the top of the page until I have time to actually, you know, write something original.

How can people hate Bill Walton? He may ramble from time to time about the Peloponnesian War, the topography of ocean trenches, and sometimes but he has his fingers on the pulse of NBA –After showering the ’stones some love in a recent radio interview (see Freep transcript)- he throws this OUTSTANDING walton Nugget out there!
“NBA basketball it’s all on fire, the Pistons, what a game last night when they sent the Lakers home with their tails between their legs. Tayshaun makes an unbelievable three and then the Lakers can’t get the inbound pass so they blow up the team and trade Kwame Brown, who would have thought? This is the most unbelievable turn in events.”
Hahahahahahaha! Wolf, that is AMAZING! Thank you for sharing that and starting my morning off with a good laugh. Walton is pure entertainment, and I guess that’s what TV is all about. Aside from the classic Walton hyperbole, I think the Lakers are truly underestimating the impact of their weakened post defense as a result of this trade. In a Pistons-Lakers final, I’d look for Sheed/Dice (when on offense) to shred Gasol. Sure, this Lakers team should score 110, but it might give up 115.
People hate Bill Walton because he is a hype salesman. Everytime something changes in the NBA, this guy gets on televison and starts talking like an excited child. Plus, he always sounds like he’s got a little extra saliva in his mouth and is on the verge of drooling. I start swallowing for him! But mostly, he’s liable to say something ridiculous one day, then totally contradict himself with another ridiculous statement. I really hope he doesn’t call those Olympic games this summer.
It’s not that I think Walton’s a bad guy, he is just too annoying to be on television. That’s one guy I wouldn’t want to have to sit through a dinner with.
It’s funny, y’all are naming reasons why I LIKE the guy. That’s the definition of polarizing!
I’m with Rob G — I used to crack up in the mid-90’s when he would get into it with Snapper Jones, and then talk about the grace, poise, and artistry of Gheorghe Muresan. Throw it DOOOWNNNN, big fella!
i just wonder if he has a five second memory. i swear i’ve heard him declare us the best defensive team in the league and then after the very next defensive possession disgustedly exclaim that someone needs to teach the team how to play defense. it’s frustrating hearing something that stupid.
that being said, for some reason i like it when he’s paired up with stephen a. smith. two tastes i hate that somehow taste good together. stephen a. yells less than usual and he actually calls Walton out on his constant flip-flopping. if they keep those two just doing the in-studio stuff i’m all for it. but i’d rather never hear walton call another game. i’ll take hubie brown any day. even if he has started subtly rooting for whatever team the pistons happen to be playing.
This is irrelevant but with all these trade talks, someone tell Joe D to go after Ron Artest. Can play both d and offense has a relatively ok contract, but yet again the asking price could be too much, unless he pulls a rabbit out of his hat, and gives up Brezec, Murray, and picks or something along the lines, I know Jarvis is not movable. Just wishful thinking, that i think would put us over the top!
You know, having to see Bill Walton standing next to the Boston bench with his warm-ups on, clapping and laughing after Bird stole Isiah’s inbound pass is enough for any Pistons fan to be rubbed the wrong way by the guy. I don’t know why ABC or whoever broadcasted that game decided to cut to that shot of Walton celebrating after that play. Everytime I see Walton smile or laugh, which is everytime I see him, that clip runs through my head. Granted, I wasn’t even born when it happened. I’ve had this Sports Illustrated VHS called “Superstars” from like 1989 that my pops gave me that I guess he got free with a subscription to the magazine. It was just a collection of songs played over highlights of a certain player. This tape is what made Isiah Thomas my favortie player of all time. There is one part celebrating Larry Bird and of course, that part is on there and it’s at the end when the music stops and the announcer comes on and gives the call. Before ever knowing who Bill Walton was, that image of him was branded in my brain and because his team were the ones that beat my favorite player’s team and he’s the guy shown doing Boston’s celebration, I’ve had a Boston and Bill Walton prejudice since my youngest days as a basketball fan. Somewhat ammusing to be able to trace your dislike for a guy back so far when you’re pretty young as I am.
WLM, I know that video — Isiah Thomas in “Superstars”:

Would it be fair to say, that with KG nursing his “ailing abs” (Really? Strained abs require this much time off, let alone any at all? Lame) that Boston fell into Cleveland’s “Boobie” trap? Don’t look now, but we’re only 3 games back of the “mighty” Celtics. Hopefully this chase will continue, as I NEED something to distract me from all the silly Lakers fans out here yapping about (the defensively inept) Pau Gasol.
Yeah Matt, that’s the one! Damn, I need to use youtube more. That song always makes me want to dribble a basketball. I remember Jordan’s video is to the song from Top Gun, “Take My Breath Away”, with his free-throw line dunk in slow-mo at the end, fading into a shot of a jet. CLASSIC!!! Dr. J’s was also terrific.
WLM1: Your tale of hatred for Bill Walton is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. You should definitely check out the “Superstars” compilation that NBA Entertainment put out on DVD a while back. Those vintage videos are worth the $15 or whatever it is.
Bill walton is a piston hater, an idiot, a loudmouth, and many more things too bad to say in public.
Boian- have you lost your mind. I dont know if you remember or not but our little buddy ronnie just so happens to be every pistons fans best friend. On the plus side there would be a lot more fight nights at the palace.
Furthermore, “I know Jarvis is not movable”; I hope you mean that he has been a steal at the 1.2 mil where paying him to backup tay and hit some treys, so we cant trade him. Or if you mean no one would want him… even if you don’t think he is any good his contract is expiring. GM’s love those. thats mostly the reason why someone would want murray and brezec.
