Pistons host Magic

The Pistons and Magic kick off the proverbial second half (technically, it’s the last third of the season) tonight in Detroit (7:30, FSN). The Pistons swept the Magic in the regular season and playoff last year and have taken two of the first three meetings this year, with their lone loss coming on a heartbreaking last-second shot by Rashard Lewis. Even so, the Magic should not be taken lightly. They’ve won nine of their last 13 and in Dwight Howard feature the best young big man in the game.

I’ll be at the game for HOOPSWORLD filing pre-game, halftime and post-game reports, and as usual, feel free to leave your comments about the game in the comments.

Man, McDyess was really getting out to D up Lewis! He looked like a small forward guarding Lewis out by the 3-point line!

just watching this game proves how good Detroit’s bench is… any of Detroit’s bench players would be starting in Orlando.

Pistons/Rock Financial commercial . . . at first I thought it was one of those NBA “where (x) happen(s)” commercials.

The NBA where indecisive referring happens.

NBA second-half . . . where ‘get to the playoffs’ happens.

    What the hell happened?

The game is like 90-68 . . . I turn away for a few minutes and they went from a 7 point half defecit to this?

Sometimes I wonder where the discipline is on this team. When the shit hits the fan, it really doesn’t make any sense in throwing more shit at the fan.

Check back tomorrow, John. Plenty more news to come about that!

Tough to beat a team that is shooting 65% from three point range. Maurice Evans 4-5? Where was that two seasons ago?

Waste of good performances by Sheed and Dyess.

Like others that have been posting, I would rather see Hayes and Hermann be used based on matchups. Both are capable backups but I think Hermann matches up better against players like Rashard Lewis and Turkoglu and I would have liked to see him be the first SF off the bench in this game.

Again, I hate Jack Neis. And I hate Mo Evans. His mouth exceeds his abilities.

The Pistons have a few of these type games each year. It is just the way they are and the way they’ll continue to be. Orlando was on fire from 3-land, we weren’t. Chauncey continued to try and take the ball down low, only to get blocked or disrupted time after time. I was happy to see some run for Herrmann and thought Primoz should have played too. At least the Cs lost their game against the Nugs!

I also missed a chunk of the third quarter, and thus missed how a relatively close game turned into a blowout (but obviously that three-point shooting had something to do with it). Guess you have to give something up — do a decent job against Howard and Hedo’s offense, but the other guys killed us.

I also was glad to see the Celtics lose. Did anyone else see that game? There was a goaltending call at the end (against Denver) which had to have been the WORST goaltending call I’ve ever seen in my 20+ years watching the NBA. The ball was past the basket and below it. Fortunately, it didn’t alter the outcome, but yikes.

That was their first loss against the West. Wonder how they’ll cope. They have a killer two week stretch where they play Utah, SA, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, and New Orleans twice. But then their April is cake.
