After getting destroyed by the Bucks for three and a half quarters on Wednesday, the Pistons will get their chance at revenge tonight at the Palace (8pm, TV20). The Pistons needed a 19-4 run late in the fourth quarter of that game just to make the final score look respectable — here’s to hoping they start the game with that type of energy instead of playing catchup for the third game in a row.
As usual, I’ll be at the Palace filing pre-game, halftime and post-game reports for HOOPSWORLD, so check that out in between leaving your own thoughts here in the comments.
Update: adios, Flip Murray.

Reflecting upon the inadequacies of the Lions, and reading in the paper today the quote of Mike Martz on Jon Kitna as an “elite” quarterback, it puts the Pistons in perspective.
That being said, damn you Pistons. Win. Or you stink or something. CYNICISM FOR THE WIN.
Anger! Why is the league pass feed the FSN-Wisconsin feed? We just got that feed last time. Is this stuff just arbitrary? Why can’t I get my Blaha fix?
Blaha is basically Detroit basketball’s Ernie Harwell. A day without Blaha is like a day without sunshine. Curses, league pass, it is David Stern’s secret way of telling Detroit they are a speed bump between NYC and LA! I curl my lips back and flex my bloody gums at thee, David!
Sauce - Dude, you’re on fire! Keep spittin’ that science…
lol @ Chauncey for Most Unnecessary Behind the Back Pass of the New Century. But still, at least he was probably making fun of Steve Nash there, so it works.
I love it when Sheed has like half an hour to set his feet for a tramp. Do any of our opponents read scouting reports? Don’t they see highlights of him yellin’ “Don’t leave me!”
Hahaha yeah Rob G, I hear that.
Wow. Defense has left the building. 35-33, Milwaukee.
Earth to Flip Saunders. Maxiell’s so-so out there.
well done Detroit you allowed the Bucks to score 35 points on you in one quarter.
I see us going on our worse slump of the season and starting out 0-5 after the All-Star break. We lose here tonight, crushed by the Suns on National TV and then lose to Denver.
smh…..
Yep, Max has hit the wall. Here’s to hopin’ Amir is still in his groove.
Amir’ll tear it up like he always does when I’m stuck at work watching Yahoo Gamecast.
Now THAT was a great defensive stretch.
Come on, Pistons bench. Be the 2nd half of Rasheed’s solid interior D base.
Hey out there, I’m a Pistons fan who moved to the West Coast and am looking for a feed for tonights game… any help?
Aflallo with the Greg Ostertag fingertip dunk! Badazzzzz!
These Bucks commentators are pitiful. They live by low expectations
“Bucks lose the ball Pistons on the break…..and Williams fouls and knocks it out of bounds”
“Wow that was a good defensive play by Mo staying with your man”
He fouled and gave the FT’s off his turnover how good could it be?
That was a sweet Amir hook right before Rasheed blocked Bogut’s shot.
what is sheed saying to bogut???
And even sweeter bit o’ Sheed trash talk to the Bucks’ bench. Why can’t they mic him up games? I gotta hear what he says…
Rasheed: “Your mother was a tracer!”
Bogut: “Mate, you’re bonkers.”
Rasheed: “A dingo ate your baby!”
Much better active hands tonight. Stuckey’s got the jazz-hands on his man. Amir went up for the o-rebound, got it and the foul. That’s the energy that has to be present at all times, and that’s what I’m not seeing right now from Maxiell and sometimes McDyess.
what was the beef with Charlie Bell? I read somewhere that he was talking shit last game
LOL@ Sauce
Sauce is having a nervous breakdown… Amir has been Detroit’s most effective big man tonight..
I dunno - Dice has been quite effective too.
Chauncey’s a star in this league. The refs assumed he was fouled on that Billups tumble - innocent perimeter collision between Bell and Billups = automatic 3rd foul on Bell.
Welcome to the NBA, Yi. Learn how to move yer feet.
Thats what Im talking about Detroit! Prove me wrong!
How’s that for a defensive turnaround? Detroit 65-46, into the half. Milwaukee 11-point 2nd quarter. Bwahahaha!
It’s a shame Milwaukee’s shot at a #1 pick came in the year when Andrew Bogut was the clear cut choice for #1… I’d ask for a refund.
Damn New Orleans only put up 35 points against the Rockets in the first half
amirzing baby, simply amirzing. when he hit that hook my fist stayed in the air for a solid thirty seconds. i have faith maxy will pull through, he’s got a while to get his groove back.
Can I get a quick recap? I just came in from a late dinner.
I feel like it’s a personal insult to see Ben in a Cavs jersey, for what it’s worth.
Cleveland’s playing with like only 8 or so guys tonight following that supersize trade. And somehow, they’re currently winning that game @ home vs. an injury-beleaguered Wiz.
Right there with you, Other Matt. In 2004, who would have thought a black man would be leading the pack in the presidential race? But even that was more plausible than Ben Wallace suiting up with Lebron Muthaf*cking James…
oh, and yes, a day without blaha is a day without sunshine. but let us not forget greg kelser. i like him.
the first quarter was close, everybody playing hard and hitting shots. we took over in the second and made two big runs. we outscored them 30-11 in the 2nd. chauncey is abusing them to get to the line and amir is blocking and stealing and he hit a gorgeous hook shot
I like Greg too, Kyle.
The best part about it is plenti-fold . . . attentive, pretty excited to be there, trying to call it as-it-is, just plain powerhouse for local broadcasting. Both of those guys know what they’re doing on TV.
is it just me, or does anyone else think that it would be cool to see the Bucks wearing blaze orange uniforms? I mean, bucks are hunted during basketball season… so like, you know
Or they cover their uniforms with dolla billz.
Larry Krystkowiak is the worst coach in the NBA… besides Isiah
I love Blaha and Kelser. They’re a terrific combo. I do miss Laimbeer calling games because nobody else could get away with outwardly ttaking joy in reporting embarrassing scores for Indiana, Chicago, and Cleveland.
I also love it when our 6′11 center hits 2 technical free throws with 2 90% FT shooters on the floor.
And a bad cusser. He said “that’s horseshit!” Who says that?
hang 100 by the end of 3?
4:47 to go in the 3rd - rollin’ 20 on the Bucks, Detroit 87-66. Kill at will time, probably some more time for the kids now.
Detroit should wear the real throwbacks… 1989-1990 Pistons… Matt, I know you can pull some strings. If they can’t make them with updated numbers, make sure Maxiell wears #44
When are we gonna see the newest Wizard?
er… I mean Piston…
Boney, I 2nd that, and I also want to see some of that freaky Bob Lanier 70s red-clad Pistons garb.
who are these guys in Cavs’ uniforms? Billy Thomas? WTF?
brainfart time… *sigh*
I guess Amir will play the entire 4th? safe to say? he’s out entire 3rd..
I’m sure we’ll see some Dixon eventually down the stretch.
gotta get some Juan in there…
The question I got is - is Dixon cleared to play tonight? Because the situation with Cleveland is that they don’t have like any of the guys ready to go from the trade the other day.
He must be - he’s in uniform.
Whoever called 100 in the third got it right. Good Goddamn.
Century Mark by the end of the 3rd!
Milwaukee’s bad nights are worse. Point established.
detroit going to hang 130 on this bitch tonight… screw Andrew Bogut. he was so proud of himself the other night when they beat Detroit, now he gets an ass pounding by Amir Johnson. Sauce doesn’t like it when Amir Johnson is on the active roster… he’ll be happy when Dale and Antonio Davis take his spot, maybe even Derrick Coleman
Billy Thomas? the guy doesn’t have an NBA name and he’s bombing 3s in CLE?
This is the Lanier uni I want to see out there, minus the short-shorts:
http://www.nba.com/media/pistons_1970_240.jpg
when your team is making amir johnson look like kareem abdul-jabar, you’re not going to win. it’s that bad.
Amir is the 2nd coming!
and rip is doing really well creating off the dribble. wow, amir is really playing well
Royal Ivey? I’ve only ever seen his name with a “DNP-CD” after it… nice to see him suit up
its good i didn’t realize they were playing the bucks again tonight, or I would have been antsy about getting out of work at 4:30(pst), and wouldn’t have taken the time to make some phone calls about my taxes once I got home. But sure is nice to put it on in the 4th quarter and see this score! : )
And jesus, I spend 2 days not looking at any news and the trades that go on in the NBA… damn!
Damon Jones looks like my Dad when he runs… he has a little hitch, he’s not fast at all.. my Dad is 53, Damon is what in his 30s?
maxy’s post ups have been really predictable for a while. he was really getting into a groove with the quick move, jump shot thing, but now he’s hesitating a lot.
damon jones is a star in his own mind.
Damon Jones sucks… he was a Piston during the teal era, that proves his value
You gotta do something, Flip. Those kids act like they’ve never seen a full-court press before. They’re getting pwnt by Milwaukee’s bench. Learn that brain back into the sudden dumb.
Its games like this that scare me. What if I future players are more complacent that our vets?
And we have a Juan Dixon sighting.
Thank you Flip for the re-group. Pistons bench is taking back the game.
future players are exactly that. they play in the future. right now, they suck sometimes.
31 assists to 6 turnovers… I’ll take it
If the future Pistons are more complacent than our current veterans, then I will have blown a gasket screaming about past injustices of Pistons on Posters already.
Jake Voskuhl sighting!
FABIO DUNKS IT LIKE BUTTER!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDXOS7m_pWE
Did Chauncey injure his arm? Whats up with the cast wrap thingy?
Yeah late in the 3rd, Billups was rubbin’ his hand like something happened to it. The wrap is probably not serious, just a Kander/Abdenour precaution like the big-ol’ bags of ice you see on a guy’s knee, et cetera . . . at least I hope it’s not serious.
Kander has treated the ice at the molecular level before applying it to Billups. Each electron is aligned to heal.
Come on C’s, pop them jerseys!
Damon Jones hung 27 on the Wiz?
Somebody(ies) didn’t earn a check in that game.
I’m coming around a bit on Shaq in his old age… now that he’s out West, I’m a fan again. Anytime I can see him or Stoudemire serve KG a facial, I’m all for it
This Cs - Suns match is getting a bit chippy, as a pal of mine would say. KG and STAT might start fightin’!
40th win 55 in feels good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA4lPE4MI6A
Plenty of leeway to mess around with the kids and beat the dumb right out of them!
I’m watching the Suns/Celts…..and I find myself rooting for the Celts! Weird. I don’t want them to get a win statistically, but I want an Eastern team to beat the Western. I want KG to take Stoudamire to school and show the young fella what time it is. Respect your elders, Amare.
KG and Stoudamire are GOING AT IT.
No, Garrett! Root for the Suns! I wanna see Amare just clobber KG!
I can’t help it! I’ve got a soft spot for KG. And Stoudamire’s acting like a punk.
Actually, re: C’s/Suns game, I was kind of hoping some D & D freak would conjure up a spell that actually worked, thus creating a vortex in the center of the court that sucked in all of the C’s, Suns, and about 1,000 of their wealthiest fans into some alternate universe where Tai Streets is the president and the Lions have won their 3rd consecutive championship.
Note-self: Gotta stop watchin’ old “Sliders” episodes.
Man, I wish Grant Hill would have came back to Detroit. He’s having a stellar year.
THESE ESPN COMMERCIALS ARE FANTASTIC.
I wish my Canadian sports channels had such awesome commercials. Or showed a basketball game every now and then.
I think I’m talking to myself, but it will help me get more posts than LawyerBoy. I’m padding my stats like Moses Malone!
Nothin’ wrong with a little talkin-to-self Garrett - just don’t start answering.
there are 2 guys in the league that Garnett gets frustrated by: Amare, and Rasheed. He can’t guard either, no matter how hard he tries.
I’m blown away by these commercials.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9-hOJEx-f9k
Amazing.
(although now I’ve seen it 48 times in the last 10 minutes, so it kind of loses its effect)
Amare is gonna drop 50!
…
I’m padding my stats, too. Gotta stay #1 (although if PG4L were here, she’d dominate…)
can’t wait for Sunday’s game. Too bad the commentators will spend the entire time talking about the Suns and Shaq and their usual 30 second stint on how Detroit is a team and they have a young bench who is energetic.
98 comments on a rematch with the bucks? who says detroit fans are getting soft?
only one comment for meregarding the game: remember how something clicked in stuckey about 10 games ago? i think the same thing’s clicked in amir the past few games. first time i’ve seen him confidently go and snatch boards out of the air instead of goof his way into them.
of course, it could just be the bucks.
meh…say what you want about the bucks but Bogut and Villanueva aren’t bad post men, obviously im not saying they’re great, but they’re not bad either. Neither is Yi.
honestly i feel like the bucks are pretty close to having a really good team. I like Mo williams and Michael Redd and Desmond Mason has come to play as of late. Bogut, Villanueva, and Yi can all continue to improve.
Garrett - Don’t get too excited. The GF was keeping me from my Stones, but she will soon learn to like the Pistons or know that she’s going to not see me as much. I wouldn’t prepare to overtake me in posts just yet, but it’s an honor to be recognized and hunted
Sauce - Your Tony! Toni! Tone! reference is massively appreciated. I haven’t kicked this jam since I was a kid. Man, Raphael Saddiq was just born to make music.
Looks from the box score that this Amir kid has a little thing us fans like to call “game”. Although, Primoz Brezec could probably get burn on the Bucks (what, too soon?). Pistons are 40-15 and just keep getting buried deeper and deeper under the radar thanks to all these trades. And even with KG back, maybe Boston is running out of gas a little bit? Not so easy anymore when you gotta head out West, Celtics. I like where this is headed (ie: an appearance by the Pistons in The NBA Finals).
For those of you keeping score at home, my pick for Rookie of the Year in 2004, J.R. Smith, went for 43 off the bench last night against a Hughes and Gooden-less Bulls team. That guy can seriously ball. *Sigh* If only he weren’t such a knucklehead.
Side note (besides, gotta pad my post stats to stay ahead of Garrett): My preseason pick for ROY this year, Al Thornton, is finally clicking on the Clippers. He’s averaging 10.9 ppg this season, but in his ten games in February he’s averaging 17.4 ppg. And how are the Clippers doing as a result? They were 14-28 going into February, and they’re 5-5 in February with wins at Toronto and at home against the Jazz.
Been busy lately and haven’t really particpated in discussions here. But I have one question for the DBB Nation…..WHERE THE HELL IS PG4L?
I think she’s sick or injured. She would probably be getting flowers and chocolates from all of us if we knew her address. But, she’s out there, alone, DBB-less, away from our support.
Those dirty Blogabull fans got PG4L, I know it.
Well, if they captured her, it would be a bit like the kidnappers who didn’t realize how much trouble their victim was. She’d give them fits with her lengthy analysis of the look and style of Noah. She’d also advocate they bring back Pippen.
I think Matt opened a can of worms putting the post stats on the main DBB page. It’s just driving us to make inane chatter to “pad our stats.”
Rob: Talking about players I have basketball crushes on is never inane chatter, if you ask me! Of course, if you ask anyone else, I like the sound of my voice (or in this case, keyboard?) too much. And I think padding stats is no harm, those guys in Boston (*cough* Patriots *cough*) are big fans so it must be right.
And to answer what E-Double asked, we all miss her dearly, but last we heard of her (much earlier in the month, I believe) she briefly stated that she is tending to personal matters (I think associated with her family).
Get back soon PG4L. Hey Lawyerboy, how’s life in LA-LA land? What up Boney, Sauce, Quick Darshan. Happy to see the Pistons have returned from the All Star break, finally. I bleed Pistons blood but I hate when they go on these 2-3 game ego trips occasionally and expect teams to just lay down for them. We can beat anyone in the league when we have our heads screwed on straight. I hope we don’t have anymore ego trips these last 27 games. As long as we use the 3 as a weapon and don’t try to live by it, we should be fine. I need McDyess to find his jumpshot before the playoffs start. But I do love the rebounding and toughness defensively. Once Maximus gets his legs back under him, watch out. He and Amir will reak holy hell man. We’ll probably win 10 straight again. Can’t wait for the Phoenix game tomorrow. The world must be ending cause the mighty Celtics have lost 3 straight out West. Can you believe it. Lets go Stones, we’re heading down the home stretch boys.
“I think Matt opened a can of worms putting the post stats on the main DBB page. It’s just driving us to make inane chatter to “pad our stats.””
Maybe he could have a penalty system for lame posts. For example:
“Chauncey = da’ bomb”
“Kobe Bryant is barely even an all-star”
“I think the Golden St. Warriors have what it takes for a deep playoff run.”
“Regardless of his performance, Stuckey performed well.”
“Love that Jason Kidd trade for Dallas.”
What’s up E-Double?
Amir Johnson’s presence is being felt among those that follow in the NBA in my group of friends. I got asked a question last night that I would’ve laughed off any other time:
“Who’s going to start next season over McDyess? Dice is a FA after this season, and likely won’t come back unless he comes off the bench”
To which I answered:
“I think Amir has earned his chance, Maxiell is too small”
Then I chugged my beer and quietly prayed for a championship run this year because I know Sauce will boycott the NBA if Amir Johnson graduates to a starting spot next year.
Looks like Big Ben is going to wear #4 for the Cavaliers. He’s no longer a star enough to displace even Sasha!
E-Double: Life in LA is great (though it’s been unusually cloudy and unseasonably chilly lately), thank you for asking. Good to see you back, brother in Blue. How are things going for you?
Kevin S.: I laughed at your post, heartily.
Boney: You honestly believe that Amir would get the nod over Maxiell (assuming the question you were asked plays out next season)? I hadn’t given it much thought, but it’s certainly possible. I think answering “Maxiell is too small” is kind of irrelevant when you look at all the success we had with a 6′8″ center. Amir looks good, maybe he is our starting PF next year if it’s not Dice. Technically though, he’d have to prove himself more consistent if we want to retain “Best Starting 5″ bragging rights.
Not to fret Kevin S. Dbb may have an occasional shallow post but you should read some of the questions in the weekly ‘mail bag’ on pistons.com. I had to stop reading it brotha. Things like “trade Flip, Herman & Brezec for Dwight Howard” or “Lindsey, Flip & Herman for Kobe”. Truly assanine stuff man. Trust me, DBB Nation has an extremely high basketball IQ. That’s why I enjoy chatting with you guys (& gal). Real basketball insight. Not much “Chauncey is da-bomb”. I don’t see the Cleveland trade making a drastic difference. They may be better but not enough to beat the Celtics or us (I hope
). 2:30 tip off. Lets go boys. We’ll need good spacing on offense, our guards driving and dishing and ferocious Defense.
Speaking of Boston, I think they’ve shown some telling signs of weakness in the past few games. Namely, their younger players and some of their bench guys are foul-crazy. Glen Davis picked up 5 fouls in like 8 minutes the other day against Phoenix, and Iverson and Carmelo had more than 13 free throw attempts each (Iverson had 20 attempts). This suggests to me that the younger guys on that team can’t handle slashers (Carmelo and Iverson. Baron Davis and Monta Ellis had a field day, too) or legit inside presences (Amare) that well without fouling. Nobody on the team is that great at drawing fouls except for Billups, but I think Stuckey’s ability to attack the rim may turn out to be big against Boston’s foul-happy bench.
So who’s it gonna be . . . Dale Davis or Jamaal Magloire . . . who is going to be our grizzly bear wrestler covered in honey?
I vote for Dale Davis.
But……Jamaal Magloire is a former All-Star!
*crickets*
