Starbury to Detroit?

Wait, what?

Stephon Marbury was on bench, perhaps scouting his next club. Detroit is a logical destination if he gets bought out because Marbury and coach Flip Saunders get along. Marbury and Saunders hung out for 10 minutes in the trainer’s room of the Detroit locker room after the game. …

I guess you can’t ever rule anything out, but this just seems crazy.

(Thanks, Boney)

    No. Thanks.

  2. 2 Mike Payne

That’d be AWESOME if Starbury came to Detroit.

…on a connecting flight to somewhere else.

  3. 3 IsraeliPiston

just read langlois latest blog on leadership and you will see that Joe D will never, ever, ever, bring someone like Marburry to Detroit

  4. 4 Quick Darshan

I’m he’s assuming he’s talking about next year because it’s too late for the Pistons to get him now. And it would be pointless to get him for next year because Stuckey will be developing.

  5. 5 Diablo

    Take him in a heartbeat.

Especially off of waivers and for pay cut, but like someone said it would be too late this year but having MORE veterans guards for the younger guards to learn from is not the worst thing in the world.

  6. 6 E-Double

Diablo, they younger guards wouldn’t learn shit from Marbury except how to be a selfish prick who has no idea what the word or concept of “team” means. Not in a million years. I wouldn’t care if he offered to play for us for free. I wouldn’t even let him volunteer to be a practice player. Are you kidding me. If he even looked at Stuckey for too long across the court at MSG on Friday, I would throw a towel over Stuckey’s head to prevent any subliminal messages from being passed. Every single team Marbury has played on has turned out to be trash and not because he didn’t have talent around him. I’m not saying Championship talent, but its not like all his teams have been at the bottom of the barrel talent wise. He’s a cancer. I pray that you are joking Diablo. That was funny man. You actually made me reply to your joke in a serious way. Ok, you got me Bro. That was a good one. :-)

  7. 7 UTEP2STEP

I agree, the guy is as selfish and arrogant as they come plus I am completely convinced he’s insane. Hsve any of you guys seen the interview he did in N.Y right before the season? If you haven’t than you have to look it up.

  8. 8 UTEP2STEP

Your daily serving of hot craziness. Enjoy………..

OMG Utep2Step. I hope he was high or drunk. Thats scarry. Ok, Diablo please watch that clip and tell me you still want to add this guy to our Pistons squad. What the hell did I just watch? Please everyone, watch the clip and see if you are as horrified as I am right now. WTF? Kudos for the charity work of course, but that kid is crazy and I’m not talking about being loud at the end. I’m talking about the interview itself. He wants to be Dallas? But they lost in the first round. The interviewer tried to help him out but he dug deeper into the hole. He said he doesn’t play for Championships cause it can’t make you millions of dollars. That right there sums it up. Well in Pistons land we play for ‘Ships. The way he talked about his sister creeped me out. Incest maybe??? He said he’ll average 12 dimes and 2-3 assists. I didn’t know there was a difference. Am I missing something here? Aren’t dimes a slang term for assists? Someone help me here. I feel like I need medication. Please watch and post a comment guys. I’m horrified right now. WTF man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

If it’s too late to add him, why are we having this discussion, if not, here are my thoughts…

He is a bizarre person. For that reason, I think he was thrown under the bus in NY long before he was actually the problem on the court. He averaged 22 and 8 two years ago, and has even performed reasonably well while clearly sulking. If he can split the difference, he would be the best backup guard in the league.

Dumars picks players based on their ability to help us win a championship, not as a way of giving a player a medal for good behavior. An emphasis on character is a means to that end, but should not result in missing low-risk opportunities to land real talent.

  11. 11 JackDutch

unless you get points for having sex with msg interns in parked cars across from strip clubs, i have no interest in stephon marbury.

    i’m having a hard time believing there’s a sincere PRO-starbury discussion.

  12. 12 UTEP2STEP

Insanity is never low risk. Whether or not we are talking this year or next, I think it’s pretty fair to say that chemistry is one of the Pistons’ biggest assets. Marbury is a chemistry killer. The guy has been a problem everywhere he has played including his home/homes, Jersey and N.Y. “I wanna see the spit out your mouth!” What does that mean? Crazy people are scary.

  13. 13 Cisco

I really dislike Starbury, really really do, and don’t want him in Detroit ever. But just to play Devil’s Advocate, couldn’t most of those things have been said about Sheed a few years ago? I’m sure Blazers fans are just mystified by Pistons Sheed, just like Nets/Wolves/Knicks fans could, theoretically, be amazed by a Pistons Starbury.

Maybe Detroit has chemistry not because it has good guys, but because it’s a good organization at creating what we as fans identify as chemistry. In other words, Starbury could be a great reclamation project, maybe greater even than Sheed.

(Mr. Dumars, if you’re reading this and going “Hmmm….”, what you’re feeling is called ‘hubris’. Look it up, let it go.)

  14. 14 Sauce1977

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/03082008/sports/knicks/saunders__steph_needs_tough_love_100982.htm

Nobody needs that kind of player. He’s a terrible defender. I’d rather have Tyronn Lue.

  15. 15 UTEP2STEP

OOOH, I don’t know about the “organization creating something fans identify as chemistry” thing. Anytime you hear current or former players talk about this core, it’s always about how everyone gets along, hangs out, goes to dinner together and just really genuinely likes each other. Media can spin but you can’t really say that what the Pistons have as a group is created by the organization with no real foundation. When’s the last time a Piston got in trouble off the court? Remember when Stackhouse punched Laetner in the face on the team plane. That stuff doesn’t happen anymore. If organizations could do that then the Pacers need to fire thier entire PR dept.

Cisco-there is fixable and there is broken. Watch that video posted earlier and you decide which one “Starbury” is. The guy is a clown on and off the court.

  16. 16 Sauce1977

    I remember the Stack/Christian fight.

  17. 17 Taco John

    Cisco,

The difference is while Rasheed is universally lauded as a fantastic teammate, the same has not been said about Marbury. People go out of their way to point out that Sheed is a great teammate and not a distraction. And even if he is, he fits with the Pistons, and has since day one. No one for a second brought up character issues with Rasheed when he was traded for. Totally different situation.

  18. 18 Cisco

Hey, hey, I agree with all of those. I’m just playing Devil’s Advocate: Starbury might not ever become a great teammate, but he might become a better cog in a basketball organization if it is not as crazy as that currently inhabiting MSG. Going back to an old coach might help. Dumars might help. Hell, making Isiah look like an even bigger fool right in his old stomping grounds might be reason enough for a competitive and half-insane individual like Starbury.

Again, I’d never take those odds and I don’t think the Pistons should, either. I’m just wondering aloud — how risky would it truly be? What would it take? Is he truly broken beyond repair, destined to be a cancer wherever he goes?

  19. 19 Pistonian revolution

i think i had a seizure while watching that video of marbury ranting and raving. i can’t tell if he’s an idiot or crazy. probably both. note to detroitbadboys.com commentors: please don’t post links to videos of emotionally disturbed individuals. it could be a hazard to your and others’ health.

  20. 20 Sauce1977

Marbury for a league minimum - no.

  21. 21 Diablo

    lmao @ the video

Ya he does sound like a real idiot and honestly I’ve never heard him talk so much in one interview, (and that is probably the reason).

I’m a person who is always looking for more players to improve this team and I thought grabbing a quality Veteran PG (who is a scorer, much like Stuckey) out of Free Agency would be a great move. But it is obvious Marbury is a little wacked out and I was only “joking”. So everyone can move on with their lives and be grateful that Joe D. is the one calling shots and not me. :D

  22. 22 V

The blogger should be banned for even thinking of Marbury in a DP uni.

  23. 23 Ashley M.

even if this would happen i don’t believe they would chance getting Marbury this season because the pistons are too good and have great chemistry to mess up. next year could be a possibility but yet again stucky and affalo are developing into good young athletes. if Marbury came i don’t see him getting a lot of playing time like he thinks he may get. so every one lets support our pistons so they can go all the way and win us another championship.

  24. 24 Boney

I think if Stephon Marbury became a Detroit Piston, that I would become a Cavaliers’ fan!

  25. 25 BomBula

I don’t see Marbury fitting with Detroit, and it would also make Detroit look desperate just to bring in a big name to scare off rivals. Our team is solid don’t ruin it

  26. 26 ric

E-double….oh my god, this was crazy, hilarious and just scary all at the same time…at some point i was laughing my ass of, because he just talk like non-sense, and crazy because im thinking “does he know what he’s talking about” and if he does, thats scary! ur right, i just hope he was drunk or high or something.

  27. 27 BigBenWallace

@ Cisco: I’d be willing to bet Joe Dumars knows what ‘hubris’ is without having to look it up. (and not b/c he has it)

‘Sheed still gets his technicals, but he’s better in Detroit than Portland b/c the culture keeps him accountable (though his reputation seems worse than his actual character).

Bottom line, surround ‘Sheed with people like Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Dumars, and he’s not going to be the same ‘Sheed clownin with Bonzi, Ruben Patterson, and the rest of the Jailbllazers.

  28. 28 Cisco

BBW: I bet he knows what it means, what I meant was “that feeling is hubris, not it’s-so-crazy-it-just-might-work. Also, that sentence was meant in jest.

But as far as surrounding Sheed with the right guys — wouldn’t that be true of Marbury as well? I believe it wouldn’t, but what are the odds Marbury could be “fixed”? 10%? 20% 5%? 0,0001%?

  29. 29 Taco John

“But as far as surrounding Sheed with the right guys — wouldn’t that be true of Marbury as well? I believe it wouldn’t, but what are the odds Marbury could be “fixed”? 10%? 20% 5%? 0,0001%?”

Zero. Sheed wasn’t “fixed.” Sheed is what he is. What Sheed is with the Pistons is different than what he was with the Blazers. Starbury has been in lots of situations, some good, some bad, and been the same guy.

  30. 30 Andrew

As a Knicks fan, I can tell you that adding Stinkbury to any team is a recipe for disaster. Even if he is willing to play for free, you are removing at least 10-15 wins from your season (not to mention all the potential law suits).

Here are the top ten Marbury’s highlights:

    1. Sleeping with a MSG intern in a car
    2. Correcting a statement under oath - “Your honor. I did not call her a black bitch.. I did call her a bitch though”
    3. Declaring himself the #1 point guard in the NBA
    4. Leaving Phoenix… then Phoenix getting better (much better)
    5. Leaving N.J…. then N.J. getting better (finals appearence)
    6. Creating his own low cost shoe for charity (nice!).. leading to season ending ankle surgery (cheap ass shoes)
    7. Becoming a “man of god”…for about 2 months
    8. Writing “I am all alone” on his sneakers while with the Nets
    9. Disappearing from the Knicks team after being benched.. Starting again right away when he threatened to release dirt about Isiah
    10. Driving every coach insane by being a totally selfish prick while making 20 Mill a year.

This list could be 10 times as long.. I was just getting started.

  31. 31 BigAl4Prez

Starbury is really not that bad of a pick up sorry to break it to you. Im a wolves fan so i guess i have nothing else to do but comment on some real ballin teams. Anyways. I would give anything to have Marbury and KG again. Sure he was an asshole, but at the same time, give him a good team like the pistons and he could fit in. He would realize that on a team like that, no one person is higher up than the others and the team is the collective “leader.” He already has the Flip saunders bond, who could actually tame his ego and meld him into the team. Look at moss, nobody wanted him becuase of his ego and look where he is now. He needed a good system, and a proven coach, much like the pistons have. I say sign him. There is nothing wrong in bringing him in off the bench, especially when pistons are deep in the playoffs. Give him a chance to play on a team that hasnt given up.

  32. 32 Andrew

I hear you BigAl4Prez.. wait until Marbury starts saying that he is better than Billups.. and starts bitching about the coach..his playing time..etc.

    Go for it Detroit!

  33. 33 Sauce1977

“but at the same time, give him a good team like the pistons and he could fit in. ”

Andrew’s right, BigAl. Marbury, on a franchise like Detroit . . . isn’t worth it, even for zero dollars. Marbury would pollute the environment, regardless of level of team success.

NY’s stuck with him. The only option is to buy him out, or hope that Steve Kerr wants to do another idiot’s trade.

  34. 34 Sauce1977

Cisco, chances of ‘fixing’ Stephon Marbury - 0 percent.

For any lurking Blazers fan who would still like to pin all their problems on Rasheed Wallace . . . or for those people who would like to compare Rasheed Wallace to Stephon Marbury . . .

Detroit does not ask Rasheed Wallace to be the leader of the Pistons. Detroit asks Rasheed to be ONE OF the leaderS.

When Rasheed came to Detroit, through Atlanta, Portland had already screwed up their franchise, and the organization was too stupid to notice the problem with their ENTIRE team, in terms of character.

    http://thedailyemailtoo.blogspot.com/2003/12/trading-rasheed-wallace.html

Read that, and then look at this team roster, and tell me that the problem with Portland wasn’t entirely Bob Whitsitt’s and then John Nash’s fault.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/POR/2003.html

Bonzi Wells. Zach Randolph. Ruben Patterson. Qyntel Woods. Damon Stoudamire, the Mighty Weed Mouse. These were probably the worst characters. Then you had the entire state of Oregon on Rasheed’s case. Then you also had lesser characters in Jeff McInnis, Dale Davis, I mean this 02-03 Blazers club is a piece of work. And somehow Rasheed was the worst one? Did Rasheed have to register as a sex offender?

He was singled out in Portland because he was their best player. The problem with Portland was their ENTIRE roster. That’s the majority fault of the front office. That front office either did not understand and/or placed no premium, obviously, on assessment of personal character.

Front office didn’t improve with Nash. A stunning John Nash move was to add Darius Miles.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1714703

I mean, you can’t hold Rasheed responsible for Portland’s mess after he left, either. That was, AGAIN, on the front office.

Rasheed hardly acted on Marbury’s level, and Rasheed hasn’t acted selfish, irresponsible, and every negative descriptive word else, everywhere else.

Actually, Stephon would have been a GREAT fit for Portland back in the day. I know Qyntel Woods would have enjoyed his support.

    http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2007/08/stephon_from_what_i_hear_dogfi.html

Marbury’s not Rasheed. Don’t ever compare the two. That’s an insult.

  35. 35 Ropes

Take Marbury,Thomas, and Curry! See YA!

  36. 36 Tru Inferno

this would be a stupid move because Billups is a better guard than Marbury, we got alot of backup PGs so this would make no sense.

  37. 37 joe from jersey

Starberry’s better as a two, and Billups can D the 2 while starberry’s in the game.

Heck as a knicks fan I’ll help him pack …

  38. 38 joe from jersey

oh, and while Mr. Dumars is at it, can he please take back Isiah too?

  39. 39 zipballer

although the majority of you will disagree, i think the pistons could use marbury.. i mean i know hes an asshole but he can def score and through most of his career hes averaged about 8 assists a game.. he can score the ball better than any of the piston guards and can take over one on one when needed.. the pistons were beat by lebron using that take over approach.. marbury seemed to have completely went in the tank after the knicks just started to blow absolute balls.. although hes not faultless, it seems as if most of the blame from the current knick situation has fallen on him when it should have fallen isiah thomas.. marbury could be an asset to the right team.. the pistons could be that team

  40. 40 UTEP2STEP

Picking up Marbury and saying it wouldn’t change things is like rubbing poo on filet and telling me it’s still edible.

  41. 41 Taco John

“marbury could be an asset to the right team”

You’re right, I’m sure Cimberio (currently 5-21 in Serie A) would be a lot better with him.

  42. 42 Matt Watson

Since we’re having so much fun piling on, this seems like a good time to point to Choose Your Own Adventure: Chronicles of Starbury series my colleagues at FanHouse did.

  43. 43 Tyce

I’m from Detroit(lifetiie Piston’s fan) and currently live in Minnesota. I was here when Marbury was here. Off court stuff aside, I have a huge problem with Steph’s game as it sits right now. I think that as he’s gotten older, the physical skills he HAD (quick first step, ability to finish) have deteriorated. He has the ability to emerge a few games but its not consistent. I will say he was the only player that made a bum like Dean Garrett look like something while he was on the Wolves. But as mentioned, he has a terrible track record with teams namely TEAMMATES. I’ve heard Van Horn, Shawn Marion, Tom Googliotta and we all know Quinton Richardson situation. But those guys have all publicly made statements about him. I’m ALL for a guy changing or being around a new atmosphere and if the risk is minimal, why not? Again, I’m not a fan of his and I’m glad things have worked out the way for him as maybe he can reflect that he’s NOT the best PG in the NBA and never was. Maybe it’ll all click.

  44. 44 Sauce1977

    That CYOA rules.

  45. 45 me

it doesnt matter who the pistons want to get… as long as they dont have Kobe Bryant or LeBron James, the pistons might as well look up 2 the Celtics and call them dadddy!!!

  46. 46 Kukoy

I think this is worth the gamble. Marbury, prick or not, can only help the Pistons. He still has glimpses of a dynamic player. Detroit is a team of veterans who can tow a personality like Stephon in line. Pretty much how Rodman meshed with the Bulls. They won without him before so I don’t think egos will get in the way. He can’t be the star not because he cannot handle the responsibilities but because he doesn’t understand the shine.

  47. 47 Jay

I Say hell yea he will be a good back-up

  48. 48 LOL

Trade Tayshawn prince for Shawn marion and there you go

  49. 49 sportsreport

Hey wait, Jessica Alba is going to coach the warriors. Seriously, i heard she attended a game or two and she even talken to Baron Davis for some minutes in some room. Don Nelson is manace to basketball anyway. Watch out for the first? female NBA coach.

At least you got E-Double with this post. Don´t scare people that way :D ! And you made Henry Abott post this one. Good job.
The only GM who would try to get Marbury already has Marbury on his roster.

  50. 50 FireIsaiah

Watching Marbury played for the Nets, Suns and Knicks, this man has NO concept of TEAM SPORT. Every ball he handles, he’ll think scoring first, and when all else fails, he looks for his teammates as a way out.
At Phoenix, he had Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson around him, and he did NOTHING to bring them to the next level until they got Steve Nash. And in NY, even Larry Brown couldn’t coach him, and the idiot Isaiah Thomas sided with Marbury. Would you really think that he will improve the Pistons? Hamilton and Prince can always get open shots because of Billups’ good passing scheme and scoring threat, with Marbury on the team, they better look for just rebounds. So if Dumars wants him, make sure he signs a DAY-TO-DAY contract so Pistons won’t get stuck with him.

  51. 51 Detroit Chedda Boy

I Say pull the trigger on this deal right after he buys out his contract with the Knicks. Because if u look at how the Pistons are built he would fit coming off the bench because Javis Hayes contract I think is up this season as well as Lindsay Hunter who is to Retire after the season he could back up Rip our Mr.Big Shot. He would have been a great add this season see the problem we have with Rondo in Boston but we will win in 6 but probably lose to L.A.

  52. 52 Dave in Houston

I personally used to like Marbury when he first came into the league but after 12 years of hearing about his “issues” and him not turning out to be as good a player as he seems to think he is, I’ve kinda moved on from being a fan of his. I do notice one thing though, everyone continues to name Rasheed and the entire Trailblazers roster as references, what about Rodman? The guy IS a complete nut ( although not so much back when he was in Det) but everyone had this conversation when he went to Chicago. I think MOST players can right their own ship as long as they have strong leadership on the team, whether is be players or coach. Rodman was proof of that. Not saying that Marbury would be a good fit for the Pistons, just saying that it’s possible.

  53. 53 FireIsaiah

There are nut jobs throughout the years in the NBA. The ones mentions here (Rodman and Sheed) were and are not the leader on the team. Not taking anything from these guys, but there’s always a stable leader on the floor directing traffic and guide them to do what they do best. Rodman had Jordan and Pippen, and Sheed has Billups and Rip. Put Marbury on the floor and he’ll end up taking over and call his own shot.

  54. 54 Dave in Houston

It’s assumed that he would do that but it was also assumed that Rodman would do that in Chicago, reagrdless of Jordan and Pippen ( we all know Phil wasn’t responsible for that since Rodman acted a fool in LA ).

  55. 55 FireIsaiah

    Let’s hope Marbury doesn’t get anyone fired…again.

  56. 56 Kyle

haven’t/hadn’t sheed and rodman shown they could be good teammates at other points in their career though? sure, sheed went a little crazy in portland and rodman went a little crazy in san antonio, but that doesn’t define their careers. marbury’s career has been defined by his issues.

if you want a selfish backup guard we might as well get flip murray back, at least he kept his mouth shut. marbury wouldn’t.

  57. 57 Sidney

I think this would be a lousy thing for Joe to pick up or even consider. Marbury is a selfish player. What Joe has is all-around players that works together. We don’t need him.

  58. 58 Dave in Houston

It wasn’t only SA, it was LA and Dallas as well. The guys was averaging double digit rebounds per game in both LA and Dal and got waived….there was a reason for that.
When he went to Chicago, I think Jordan just told him to fly right or he’d be gone.

And yes, Rodman has been defined by his on/off court actions….kicking the photographer, marrying himself…..do I need to go on?

  59. 59 FireIsaiah

If this is the free agency pick up for next year, you can even throw Iverson, Baron Davis or even Jason Williams into the mix. There are bunch of FAs out there, just don’t think Marbury is worth the risk.

  60. 60 Kyle

dave in houston, i can see your point, but he’d still proven that he could do it. his tenure in detroit was his credibility. marbury has no credibility, just a past strewn with pissed off coaches, owners, teammates, gm’s and fans.

  61. 61 Kyle

but to you his career defining moments were the kicked photographer and a publicity stunt for his book? i pity you.

  62. 62 PistonsGirl4Life

Leaving The Worm out of this, I think it’s safe to say that Marbury won’t ever be a Piston. As we all know this team is built to move the ball around to the open target and spread the scoring out if the defence tries to take any one player away….

Marbury is a PG who admitted this PAST OFFSEASON that all he did was work on his shot all summer, DESPITE the Knicks making it clear that they needed him to facilitate more.

I’m all for aquiring talent, but the Pistons won’t EVER be the Stephon Marbury show and Marbury has made it 100% clear that this is ALL he’s interested in. I’m all for discount sportswear but thats the ONLY place I want to see the word Starbury……. ever.

  63. 63 Sauce1977

I would never buy Stephon’s cheap shitty shoes.

  64. 64 Dane Walker

I will admit I was not pleased when I heard Rasheed was coming to the Pistons. I had paid too much attention to the sportswriter’s belief that anyone who doesn’t like talking to the press is a “problem”. And the techs, of course, which are, occasionally, an actual problem. Marbury is different, though. It’s not just the off-court image or bad press or unwise quotes. The plain and simple truth is that every team he leaves gets better and every team he comes to gets worse. Look it up. Wins are the bottom line and while you can’t hold one player responsible in any short period you can over time. If the Pistons needed a veteran guard (and I’m not sure they do) I hope they at least tried for Sam Cassell. THAT guy is a winner. Oh, and about Rodman: he was a little eccentric as a Piston. He didn’t go off the deep end until Chuck Daly left.

  65. 65 Chad

Why are we even talking about this spoiled nut case? Who would the Pistons give up for this animal? He is done, you hear me, done. No game left at all. He needs to do us each a favor and go overseas so that we never ever hear from him again.

  66. 66 Kyle

i wanted the ben ones. now… not so much.

  67. 67 Randy DUUDE

NO THANKS! He messed up the knicks, we don’t need that in detroit. Go to the celtics or something starbury…

  68. 68 justin

it would actually be really good…he would be a great back up for chauncey, and he has a good relationship w/flip!

  69. 69 Pricey

Just to start off im a Knicks fan so reading all this has me concerned. There are reports that he is a cancer and that he doesnt get along with team mates but there are also reports from other players that think he is great and there are no issues. At Phoenix when he left Barbosa was in tears cause he loved Marbury at Phoenix, Marbury bought him a car when he first got drafted…. terrible person to have on ur team. On every side you will not get along with certain people so just cause 1 or 2 people say they dont like him but then you have a majority of the team that do, only the negative gets published.
He is a all-star calibre player when at his best. People will bring up that he caught a plane and walked out on his team but he was walking out on Isiah, he is the one that has ruined this franchise, not Marbury.
If he is available at the end of the season i would be taking him on a low contract as a backup to Chauncey. That will be the best PG combo in the league

I’m half-tempted to assume Justin is a Knicks fan…. I mean it, that’s how bad this idea is.

PG4L, this got pimp-linked by Henry Abbott. It’s ESPN traffic, and bitter Knicks fans can’t accept that their team stinks.

I can’t believe this thread is still going! In case anybody missed this or if you are somehow on the fence about Marbury, I happily re-present exhibit A:

FireIsiah: If you’re the true knicks fan you claim to be, you need to be selling these detroit folks on starberry!

Yeah, so rumor has it Starberry makes a mean ranch dip.

    Kyle,

You pity me? I know what his credentials are. I know what the stats are. Rodman was never known to be a scorer. He was a rebounder, plain and simple. Yet his last 2 years in the league, he played 23 games with LA and was averaging 11.2 RPG and was cut after 2 months. The following year with Dallas, he played in 12 games averaging 14.3 RPG and was cut after a month. Certainly someone with all those credentials you listed and probably some that you didn’t list who was averaging double digit rebounds per game wouldn’t be cut unless for personal reasons.

Now, let’s get to the real point. Rodman has been HOF eligible for what…2-3 years now? He last played in the 99-00 season. He’s still not in the hall and here’s an interesting article for you to read

    http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/11/sports/basketball/11rodman.html?pagewanted=print

So my question to you is, if Rodman is known for all those accolades that you listed, why does half that article mention his off court antics?
FYI, I have no issues with Rodman at all. So don’t think I am doing this to bash him cause that’s not what I am doing.

  77. 77 FireIsaiah

joe from jersey, i was a knicks fan until MSG head James Dolan had a lobotomy and hired Isaiah. I don’t wish to sell a bad product to anyone because it would indicates that the product has some value to it. Starbury plays street ball and hasn’t learn how to play team sport. He needs to be unemployed to learn a lesson. Remember Lattrell Spreewell?

  78. 78 Kyle

rodman was worth the risk and he proved it over and over. marbury isn’t worth the risk and he’s also proven it over and over.

  79. 79 Knick R Bocker

Please, please take him. We’ll throw in Jerome James too.

80 posts on THIS? My, we need to get a life, or what?

  81. 81 Sauce1977

The key apparently is . . . for Rodman . . . he keeps playing the game, by that Times article. Since it’s a ‘basketball’ hall of fame, and he’s still ‘active,’ then he’s ineligible to be considered.

  82. 82 joe from jersey

Lattrell Spreewell is one of the tragic stories of the NBA. I’m not sure he ever learned that lesson, but he was great for the Knicks.

Everything I’ve read about and heard from Dolan indicates he was born that way. Right now my only hope as a Knick fan is that he’ll start buying people out in anticipation of LeBron and the rest of the class of 03 hit free agency.

As bad as Isiah is, the Knicks have never had a GM who understood the salary cap.
