Again, no time for a preview. Pistons and Spurs tip in a few.

See now THIS, this is a game baby…
Also, and I want to be clear about this, I won’t miss Bruce Bowen in this one at all! GOODBYE YOU CHEATING SONOFAYOUKNOWHAT…
(That having been said I agree 100% with Sauce’s earlier statement that if Bowen was a Piston I’d be all over his game like a fat kid on a french fry. But whatever, he isn’t a Piston so screw him.)
97-91 Pistons baby!
Antonio, let’s agree to not take 23-footers, okay? That would be fine if you didn’t. I know you hang around Rasheed a lot and all, but try to control yourself. I still love you, Dyess, what I say is out of love.
SAUSAGE!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UHKB6nQrzM
Spurs announcers on Horry’s pushoff on Jarvis:
“Usually thats only called when the defensive team exaggerates. However, he did have his hand on his back.”
I miss Blaha and Kelser
Apparantly, Rip reads McCoskey’s column
Boney doesn’t like it when Rip reads McCoskey’s column.
It’s called a “clear path foul,” dumbasses. If you’re seeing this game and having Blaha announce, thank your lucky stars.
Opposing team or not, you gotta love Big Shot Bob
can i just say thank god we have theo now? i mean, i know that when he’s on the court we seem give up way more points then we score, but he doesn’t foul too much. thank god!
Pistons/Spurs - half-court goodness, Stern’s black eye.
Really UTEP? I dunno man, after that bodycheck on Nash last year….
yeah, that really turned me against horry. he’s cheap shot bob as far as i’m concerned
Good call
Clearly Tay doesn’t miss Bruce Bowen either! Seriously he’s looking great…
Sweet J by Rip.
Miggity is the playa of the game so far…
Looking pretty good tonight. I’d still like to see Amir get unearthed from the bench for about 5-7 minutes. Stuckey’s played 7 and Dixon remains glued to the bench. These are good things.
Also, holy hell are San Antonio’s announcers bad. How can a 4 time champion’s home crew be so bad?
THEEOOO! Ya see, you gotta get the offensive rebounds. With the jumpin’ and the blockin’ out and the battlin’…
Bob wanted to throw the hip
Is it me or does it seem like Maxiell hasn’t stepped on the floor the whole game, (same can be said for Amir, too)….
He stuck(eyed) it!
55-63 at teh end of 3. Nobody wants to see this Finals matchup outside of Detroit and S.A
Best quarter of Detroit Basketball I’ve seen in a while!
Excellent defensive 3rd quarter!!!
up by 10 end of the 3rd. Looks extremely competitive on the stones part - very INTO this game. Now, its great that Theo is getting those O-rebounds but “he will not take amir or max’s minutes…” seems to have been the flavor of the moment. Or is it worth keeping him in and having them prove themselves better than his performance in order to get minutes?
He’s been really solid down low, imho.
max played for a little while and coincidentally, when he came in (for theo) there was a marked jump in energy and we went on a run. unfortunately he then gave away four quick points with a missed assignment on oberto and lazy pass to chauncey that got picked off.
i’d like to see amir get those minutes back in the first half and let theo get the second half. i think we need amir’s energy in the first half and theo’s smarts in the second. i kind of really like this idea.
Jarvis really is a black hole
I think that Amir’s “development” is over for this season. Unless it’s a blow-out or against the Memphis’s of the world, he’s watching like the rest of us.
If Theo’s kicking ass like this, it’s awfully hard to argue against.
Where are the Flip haters now? Where are all the “we’re so complacent” people at? I know! they’re drafting comments like: “Why don’t we play like this EVERY night?”
Answer: it’s a long season, and the Stones don’t win every game. another answer: they’re still damn good.
Rodney wanted to finish that break SO bad, but Jarvis squashed his dreams.
Rob G: “Where are the Flip haters now?”
Don’t bait them.
I’m still a Flip hater. So, to answer your question: “Here!”
“Where are the Flip haters now?”
*flexes bloody gums in a nasty smile*
i’m in the “hate flip, but don’t think this whole ‘complacency’ thing is really our problem”
camp
Where the announcers complain about calls worse than there team (Spurs) happens
Ugh. might have jinxed us.
a fourteen point run
This is why people get sick of the Pistons.
How many possessions has it been in a row where someone’s loving a brick-pregnant jumper?
That’s got to be a coaching error, doesn’t it? NOBODY thinks to go inside-out with the ball? Not even a sniff of the paint?
he doesn’t call a time out until a fourteen point run
Let’s see what we do out of the timeout. Can we get an easy bucket?
holy ! the spurs announcers need to die.
pompous asses!
how can you watch them do that over and over and over and not call a time out?
A FOURTEEN POINT RUN!
By the way, it’s no jinx. It’s called bad coaaching decisions.
I’m not a hater, but WOW was that bad decision.
nope. jinx.
-making
Kool-Aid
No, thanks.
Exactly
COME ON DETROIT WIN THIS ONE
Wow, we complain about Chauncey’s last minute decisions . . . Ginobili with the dumb foul along the perimeter.
Fidget harder, Flip, HARDER!!!
Big shot, Tay!
Nice, Tayshaun!!!
I don’t know if alot of people are aware of this but the score of the game is in direct proportion to the tightness of Flip’s shirt collar.
Pistons Make-a-Wish Telethon . . . $121k. Those kids deserve it. Good stuff.
Nice play outta the time-out S.A
RASHEED WALLACE IS THE GOD OF DEFENSE.
This is classic Detroit SA. HOLY CRAP RIP!
And the refs crap their pants, lol.
Tayshaun non-foul-call, Tim Duncan totally ups-and-downs, lol, then it was supposed to be off Detroit. God bless Detroit for luck.
I can see the McCoskey apology already
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIP CITY!
Boney doesn’t like it when Rip gets awesome at the very end of the game!
He jammed that article up McCoskey’s backside. But I’m glad he wrote it.
Flip haters and fans agree: this is a badass game. We can agree on this, right?
SUCK IT MCCOSKY! BOOSH!!!
and/or CACAU!
thank you refs. Always great when fouls at the end can make or break a game. As a detroit fan its been in our favor and against, like most teams, but I wish sports were not as frequently decided by hairpin rules.
51 to 39 with rebounds. You can shoot pretty bad and still win with that many rebounds.
Big time agree.
MADNESS!
“When it comes to community, the San Antonio Spurs care. Tim Duncan dug an irrigation ditch. Tony Parker baked cakes for shut-ins in a San Antonio neighborhood. And I, Bruce Bowen, just kicked the shit out of some guy for charity. Where caring happens!”
Up by 4, 4 seconds to go - Come on Pop, let’s see you diagram out of this.
Now I can sleep tonight.
welcome back to the world of the living, rip hamilton…
Great game. I’m really glad we pulled it out. I wonder if we could have won without all our starters exceeding 38 minutes though. For our sake, I hope so.
take a win over the sixers or a loss to the spurs.
i’d rather have an issue with not showing up to a mediocre team and losing it than being unable to take off a top team. Whats the record this season with spurs/stones? I know we won 2 so far..
Greg - I think so. The bench was effective when they were in, except for some bonehead plays (JMax!) Stuckey, Hayes, and Theo played well.
Great game, nice finish by the starting five. -claps-
i still don’t like that article.
it never mentions how his fg% and 3pt% are both higher than his career avg. this year.
and it doesn’t point out the obvious fact that he’s been getting steadily more frustrated the last two years that he’s not getting the foul calls he thinks he deserves.
personally i think the zoo crew getting called for those cheap fouls so the refs can keep other teams in the game has also contributed to driving him over the edge.
whether him taking it off the dribble more often is a good strategy or not is debatable, and i’d rather see an article arguing that than the “hey, wass happenin’ wid rip, he sux this yer” crap mccosky wrote.
That was awesome. Players and sub of the game were all the Make a Wish kids. Good fortune to you little guys.
Sauce, I don’t care when Rip scores 20 and has a decent game. I’d rather have Rip play over the guys on the bench, but that doesn’t mean that I’d prefer a SG that could actually take the ball to the rack without the aid of 3 screens.
Starters - the minutes are a double-edged sword.
Pop played Duncan 39 minutes, Finley 35, Tony Parker 38, and Manu 35. Detroit pretty much had to have a starting four out there when they’re out there.
Great game. Good cause. Goodnight.
I’m just messin’ with you Boney, don’t be thick!
well us flip haters would tell you it was only a matter of time anyway. take advantage of seeing max play now, you’ll be seeing less and less of it.
“Where are the Flip haters now? Where are all the “we’re so complacent” people at? I know! they’re drafting comments like: “Why don’t we play like this EVERY night?”
Before I begin the hating, let me say…
This was a great defensive game and the Pistons really looked good in the third quarter. HOWEVER…..
Only scoring 4 points in the first eight minutes of the 4th quarter and allowing a good team to get back in the game isn’t a good sign. How can you only post 4 points in eight minutes?
No Bowen, plus Udoka was out. Now I’ll dismiss Udoka, I know Spurs fans wouldn’t, but I will for the sake of argument. But without Bowen, the Spurs should’ve been out of this game mid-way through the third.
Good win for the Pistons, I’m happy you all have something to feel good about, really, I am. But as for another title this year…..
NO CHANCE!!!
Now, I’ll be fair and assure any of you that can’t stand my posts that if the Pistons beat Boston and get to the finals, I’ll show up here and let all of you have a field day in mocking me. Unfortunately for all of you and me (I’d really like to see the best you stans could muster) that isn’t going to happen, sorry, but No Chance!!!
Why was everyone complaining that Flip didn’t call a timeout during the Spurs run? Didn’t he call two? One when they got it down to 7 and one when they took the lead. Sometimes the players have to be a accountable. They’re veterans. They should know better (although I didn’t think the shots they took were that horrible).
Why do you assume that it’s Flip’s decision to not play the young guys? I assume Joe D went after Theo Ratliff for a reason.
Do you really think that Flip and Joe D don’t talk every day? I seriously doubt Joe sits up in his suite going “why is Flip doing that? If only I could get in touch with him…”
hehe
I’ve thought the same thing, for as much as folks can hate on flip, is Joe D the master behind the scenes, except when it comes to communicating with flip-he sits on his heads and condones something he doesn’t like with the coaching?
Where are the Flip haters now? Where are all the “we’re so complacent” people at? I know! they’re drafting comments like: “Why don’t we play like this EVERY night?”
Actually I was busy WATCHING THE GAME because you know, the team made it WORTH watching. Generally I only have TIME TO BITCH ABOUT THE TEAM PLAYTING LIKE DOGS BECAUSE I’M SICK OF WATCHING THEM PLAY LIKE DOGS SO I LEAVE THE TV AND COME HERE…
jesus Rob, I get your point but watching you dance like Mark Gastineau after a sack because the Pistons “proved all the haters wrong” when the ENTIRE issue is that Detroit has NO PROBLEM playing with the Elite teams in the league but DOESN’T BOTHER TO TRY VS PHILLY (insert any one of the other 22 some odd teams who shouldn’t be holding Chauncey’s jock strap, let alone beating him) is just sickening. Get with the issue or pick SOME OTHER DEAD HORSE TO BEAT.
Kthanx.
On a slightly more positive note, I enjoyed every second of that game and no I don’t particularly blame Flip for it being that close. You HAD to know after we maimed them in the third that SA’s pride was going to rise up and make a game of it.
Great points, QD, but I still don’t like Flip, lol.
Okay, I see how the rest of the season is going to go around here. Can I respectfully ask for a moratorium on all “OMG FLIP IS TEH SUX!” and all the “NUH-UH BEST 2ND BEST RECORD IN THE EAST FLIP HATERZ!”? What’s the point? We’re stuck with him for the rest of the year. When San Antonio went to a zone and we jacked up what seemed like 341 straight 3’s we all thought “GO INSIDE! WTF!?” Let’s not turn this place into mgoblog where there was a season long internet slap fight over the future of Lloyd Carr and a micro-analyzation of every decision ever made. We don’t need that. Let’s have this conversation at the end of the season, please.
Some other dead horse to beat? I thought the Flip debate was the dead horse du jour…
You realize I just experienced ACTUAL physical pain when you said “Lloyd Carr”… no really. Please to be not bringing up the dead for at least 10 years… wait you mean he’s alive? Could have fooled me for most of last season
*Dodges*
Rob, fair, I just think it’s unfair for you to say “Look the Pistons aren’t complacent” because they beat a team like San Antonio when it’s pretty much become the team M.O. to go Mr. Hyde on GOOD teams but turn into Walter Mitty IRL vs bad teams…
Either way, I didn’t mean to tell you what to talk about, that’s balls and I’m sorry… I over-reacted to your comment. My bad.
Is Flip an elite coach? No. But elite coaches are usually prima donnas and egomaniacs. Ever consider that Joe D likes having Flip around because he can control him. Do you think Larry Brown would’ve listened to Joe D’s mandate to play Amir Johnson and Rodney Stuckey?
I hate to admit this, but I actually cried at the end of the Capital One Bowl. Part of it was relief and satisfaction that we got a happy ending. But most of it was bitter anger that we sat on that game plan and had 9-4 and 7-5 seasons within 3 seasons.
My point is this whole Flip debate is rapidly turning into “OMG! LLOYD APOLOGIST! ENABLER!” all over again. Nobody here wants that. Unless you happen to hate Pistons fans.
The point with Flip isn’t based just on wins and losses. WSe will win games despite Flip just like we’ll lose games in which he might make a few wise decisions. My thing is this, the guy is not a championship caliber coach. Period. The players have zero respect for him.
Everyone points out win loss record, or playoffs or whatever. To that I can say….WE HAVE 3 ALL STARS IN OUR STARTING 5 PLUS TAY! aAdd our bench and yaeh, it’s a really good team. Of course we can compete with the top teams in the league, we have great talent. The Kool-aiders miss the point in all this but it comes down to the areas in which good coaching can make a difference..A timley T.O, taking a tech maybe, adjusting gameplans, plays diagrammed out of time-outs, resting starters. I have no problem with a jacked up rotation if we win, but when we lose a game due to not getting appropriate match-ups on the floor or adjusting to the game’s momentum than that is poor coaching.
Every win is not a victory for Flip supporters just like every loss isn’t a “win” for haters but HOLY-HERRMAN people open your eyes! The guy isn’t a championship caliber coach. Not the worst but far from the best.
Like I said in a thread last night, bashing your coaches or players or whomever, is o.k as long as they are accountable AND IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU ANY LESS OF A FAN. Thta said, he’s our coach and that’s not gonna change so in the mean time, Go Pistons!
I already miss Lloyd. If we were going to steal a coach away from a school, couldn’t have been Jeff Tedford instead?
And I have been overreacting to a disturbing trend here on DBB - hatin’ on a winning team, and assuming they will flame out prematurely, due to complacency. But I don’t know if the two or three hiccups this year (Utah, Philly) count as a trend of complacency. I don’t see it yet - and trust me, I’ve seen a lot of complacency out of the Pistons - just not this year. Not yet.
Other Matt, Pandora’s box . . . opened.
Llllllloyd . . . the single-most despised coach in my lifetime. Lloyd makes me sick. Worst coach they ever had. Until Rich Rod rolls up a losing season, lol.
QD, or at least someone who can ACTUALLY GET THE VAUNTED QB RECRUIT HE PROMISED TO FREAKING AUTOGRAPH THE DAMN LETTER OF INTENT FOR REALLY ON SIGNING DAY… sorry just had to get that off my chest. Seriously.
lol I don’t want Terrelle Pryor.
Kid wants to dual-sport in b-ball and football . . . why in God’s name would he visit Memphis in March?
I don’t blame the kid either . . . no matter how bad he stinks at college ball, he’ll get so much ESPN hype that he’ll get no less than a lottery pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Paaaiiid immediately. I’d make that choice too.
Rob, frankly *I’m* not assuming ANYTHING about this year’s playoffs. Infact I can only think of TWO people who’ve actually said “The Pistons are toast” the last little while and one of them was CLEARLY trolling for an arguement.
That having been said, I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on the whole “taking nights off vs bad teams” thingy, since even though we watch the same games, I do NOT agree that it hasn’t been a problem this year. Infact, I’d say it’s SPECIFICALLY been THIS YEAR (as in post Jan 1st) that I’ve started to see the same old Piston’s crap again, complete with stupid statements like “It’s just the regular season”, etc.
Also, just one side comment… Utah freaking owns Detroit. I can’t blame losses vs them on lack of effort, the Jazz just have the PERFECT combination of pieces to beat Detroit consistantly. Honestly I’m more afraid of them than ANY other team in the league, INCLUDED Cleveland on a night Lebron is both on AND getting love from the officials. Seriously if you break it down bit by bit, Utah is pretty much built to beat Detroit. Unfortunately for them, they aren’t in the Central and have almost no answer for Parker’s quickness, so basically they’ll probably never get out of the West at the same time we come out of the East.
Sauce, I don’t care if he signs, but since he didn’t and we pretty much bet the farm that he was GOING to.. the Wolverines will be quarterbacked this year by one of three guys who’s prior destiny was to “carry Ryan Mallet’s luggage to and from the airport”… I’m scared of that propsect and you SHOULD be too…
Let’s just say at this point I’m desperately praying for a JUCO transfer with a wet noodle for an arm and a 4.35 40…….and dude, that’s NOT FUNNY, that’d make us Indiana on offence…
“Infact I can only think of TWO people who’ve actually said “The Pistons are toast” the last little while and one of them was CLEARLY trolling for an arguement.”
LMAO!!!
I’m not making or asking for an argument, just stating a valid and somewhat reasonable assumption I have as a Pistons fan, that this year they have shown many of the same lapses in focus and energy, that I think their going to fall victim to a hungrier team in Boston in the playoffs. Orlando is also a different team from one season ago so I think they’ll stretch that series out to at least six if not seven games. Add in Flip Saunders and I’m only left to figure that Detroit won’t make it to the finals this season.
Beautiful! The last 4:30 min of the 4th qtr was championship basketball by the Pistons.
Mr. Rasheed played incredible defense on Duncan, and Rip just took a big s%!# on Chris McCosky.
FYI, here’s my HOOPSWORLD game post.
Yeah Michigan’s suddenly vulnerable @ QB, but that shouldn’t stop Gimmick Rich, they’ll probably Crouch up a total option plan next year if all else fails.
The days of NFL QB Factory are over. Say hello to the Big Gimmick.
@Sauce… I hope you’re right, 7-5 because we can’t convert a third down (or complete a pass) is a scary-assed thought…
@Matt… solid recap and thanks for the note on the Spurs starters being rested. Believe it or not, in all the excitement/great game I didn’t NOTICE they’re key guys playing less minutes than ours…
Scary but informative.
PG4L, that’s assuming Michigan has enough rushing options to do that.
lions are going to the super bowl
I missed the game but looking at the box score I love seeing Stuckey get Juan Dixon’s minutes and love Theo Ratliff’s 7 boards in 13 minutes. I can live with Amir not playing every night because he averaging 15 minutes a game since January 1st and that includes really only playing rotation minutes 2 out of every 3 games.
I just wanted to say that these are good times indeed.
At least the team wins more than it loses and has a shot each year.
Cant ask for more than that.
Actually I can, please never go teal again.
It could be much worse:
http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=280314025
Weird-o stat was Jaric’s 27 minutes without taking a shot. 4 assists. 2 turnovers. 5 points (off free throws). The talk about Jaric to Detroit? Jaric would never see the court.
I didn’t get a chance to watch the game… I got to listen to the last 2 minutes. The first thing I noticed is that the palace was unbelievably loud. How can home court advantage NOT matter?
Good to see the win. Wish I could have watched it.
No Bowen so Rip had a good game and we won.
To my fellow Wolvs complaining about the QB thing, you guys know that Steve Threet was an Elite 11 QB coming out of High School, right? I think we’re going to be just fine. I’d heard enough rumblings that Threet was going to give Mallett a serious run for his money this year because of all of Mallett’s maturity issues. So, I’m really not that worried. Plus our D should be much better, which will hopefully keep us hanging around in most games. It’ll be a struggle for sure. I just worry about our inability to move the ball, thus keeping the D on the field for 9000 minutes in the 2nd half.
Orlando is a cake team! Come on!
Great win for the Pistons. The Spurs are the defending Champs right? They are the reigning NBA mini-dynasty right? They’ve won 4 rings and we compare ourselves to them as far as NBA excellence over the last 5 years right? We’ll we’ve swept the Spurs. We beat Phoenix by 30. In addition, we split with Houston and the Lakers. We beat the Hornets easily the first time around. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS RIGHT? We beat an elite team last night so that makes Flip a freaking genius. We are the best team in the NBA and you can go ahead and put the champagne on order because we are going to win that ‘Ship. Book it. Guaranteed. We are unbeatable. Who’s going to stop the depth, experience and team brand of basketball we play? Nobody, thats who. The Pistons not only CAN but WILL win it this year. I am convinced of it. I take back my comments after the boston loss. Its a wrap Baby. Not only is the sky not falling Lady (PG4L) & Gentlemen, but I see a beautiful rainbow and the sun is so bright I need sunglasses. (We’ll actually I’m bracing for another tornado here in Atlanta). The Pistons have swept the Spurs (screw Bruce Bowen). Man are we lucky to be rooting for the best team in the NBA (screw the Celtics) and have Flip as our Coach (screw, Phil, Riley, Sloan, Popovich, et all). Lets go Pistons!!!!!!!
Ok, stop it. Keep your smart comments to yourself. If we can over exaggerate the doom and gloom after every single loss, why cant I over exaggerate to the positive after a good win over an elite team. Lets be consistent. If we call them bumbs and losers after every loss, then we must hail them as the greatest team of all time after every win. Right????
Seriously, good win by the home team. I just pray we smash the Hornets tomorrow since I get to see that Nationally televised game. If we sweep New orleans, our record against the West Elite will look pretty darn good. (Damn those Jazz, man.) I understand what Flip is trying to do with his tinkering. I just hope the playoff bench rotation doesn’t shrink to Ratliff, Dixon, Hunter and Hayes. Flip may be scared to play Max, Amir, Stuckey or Afflalo too much. I think Maximus proved himself against Cleveland last year, so maybe Flip won’t forget about him. Since we smashed the Suns on the last nationally televised game, maybe we can quiet the nay-sayers who burried us after the Boston loss and make a good impression by smashing the Hornets also. Chris Paul had 27 & 17 dimes last night. WTH???This kid is definately the 2nd coming of Isiah Lord Thomas. I think the next 10 years watching King James, Superman Howard, and CP3 is going to be very very enjoyable my friends. But, enough of that. GO PISTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!
From looking at the highlights, it appeared the Pistons violated team rules. Did I see some excitement from Chauncey and Rip after the and-1. There is no crying in baseball and no excitement allowed in Piston Basketball. Put your shirts and ties back on gentlemen. They should get fined for that. If they start playing with emotion (not technicals, but good emotion & energy) they’ll mess around and catch the Celtics. We can’t have that. This was just 1 of 82 games. Isn’t that what Chauncey says after every loss!!!
Yes, I’m just in a smarty pants mood today. Tornados in downtown Atlanta. Got to love it man. What can you do.
Reading some of the early comments on here I guess whoever the broadcasters you guys ended up with is quite awful, just of curiosity, are they as bad as say Johnny “Red” Kerr and that other bias “announcer” WGN wheels out for the Bulls broadcasts?
I’ve listened to them a few times and they’re just plain awful.
This is from pistons.com and is line with my feeling that Joe has more say in who gets to play than Flip does:
“Where does Lindsey Hunter fit? Or does he still fit? Saunders said Friday night that Hunter had a talk with Dumars and they’ve all decided that they’re going to start working Hunter back into the mix with 15 games left in the season.”
Charley Rosen’s analysis of the Spurs game and the Pistons chances:
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7909434/Pistons-are-a-force-when-Rasheed’s-clicking
Even with six straight losses to Utah, I’d still take the Pistons in a seven-game series.
Not me. Utah would crush us. They just seem to have the Pistons’ number.
Not me. Utah would crush us. They just seem to have the Pistons’ number. - In 5 games at that.
Boozer is stronger inside than ANYONE we have. Okur is one of about 3 5’s in the league who wouldn’t MIND hanging out past the line and f&cking with Sheed’s shot. Krilenko is long enough and strong enough to shut down EITHER Rip or Tay, alternating between if necissary. Williams is STRONGER than Billups, and faster too and finally we have absolutely NOBODY who can cover Korver from the 3.
You are NUTS if you’re hoping for a dance with Utah.
No one is un-beatable but I wouldn’t want Utah either. They just give us major match up problems. And Milsap always seems to steal Maxiel’s lunch money. Ewww. I don’t like that matchup. I know Chicago dominated us last year and we smashed them in the playoffs, but I think this situation with Utah is a lil’ different.
I forgot,….. and Sloan would coach circles around the Flip’ster.
OF course Utah is beatable, the recipe is simple:
A) have the best technically perfect big man in NBA history
B) have a foreign point guard who’s soo quick that Williams HAS to foul him or give up free points in the paint
C) Have a coach who’s BETTER than Jerry Sloan
and finally D) Have a SG/Swingman who initiates contact vs long defenders at will and can then HURL himself 5 feet upcourt to sell the foul…
Sadly there’s only one team that HAS all that and it isn’t us.
I would rather play utah than cleveland.
If Utah makes it out of the West this season, they are the 2008 NBA Champions. Against them, I give the Pistons the best shot (okay, I’m a homer). Boston, Cleveland would wilt in a heartbeat. The Jazz are the Spurs of 2005.
Wouldn’t that just chafe David Stern’s ass if the Jazz were to be the next Western Conference dynasty? He’d have to invent a whole host of new rules just to keep them down…
E-Double is right though, no one is unbeatable. But from the West, no one scares me more than the Utah Jazz. In fact, from the West, no one else scares me at all.
Eh, the Jazz have won the last few, but I don’t think it’s as bad as you guys are claiming. They aren’t really a good matchup for the Pistons, but even with that in mind, none of their wins have been blowouts (think the most is 14), and most of them went right down to the wire. They’re not a team I’d particularly want to face, though.
