Pistons (bench) vs. T’Wolves

Yes, it’s a complete non sequitur, but you try finding interesting T’Wolves videos. (Update: I swapped out videos — I forgot about this one.)

Get ready to see a whole lot of bench players. Or, more accurately, get ready to see a whole lot of new starters. From A. Sherrod Blakely:

Yes, it’s April Fool’s day, but Flip Saunders wasn’t kidding around when he said that Rip Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups would all sit out tonight’s game against Minnesota.

Saunders said the idea came from Joe Dumars, Detroit’s president of basketball operations.

“We’re in a situation with having two days offs (before the next game), it was a perfect time for them (to not play),” Saunders said. “Joe thought it would be best to give those guys a blow right now.”

I’m out for dinner with my special lady, but I’m tivoing this one– can’t wait to see it! I’m pumped to see stuckey, afflalo, amir and samb in this one…

  2. 2 Keegan

    This game is so good.

  3. 3 Keegan

So…nobody cares at all about this game.

  4. 4 Quick Darshan

So much for the Jarvis at the 2 experiment.

  5. 5 Quick Darshan

Amir and Samb. That’s a lot of shot blocking ability on the court. Which Flip would throw Tayshaun out there with them.

  6. 6 Quick Darshan

    *Wish Flip

  7. 7 Quick Darshan

    Cheick Mutherf’n Samb!

  8. 8 Sauce1977

Yeah, nobody cares so far, since it’s kinda difficult to accept having a rolling 20 put on one’s team by a bottom-feeder like Minnesota.

Thanks, Joe Dumars. Since the starters don’t play today, I don’t, either. Later.

  9. 9 Garrett

So much for my, “I’d like to see them win every game left so they can go into the playoffs on a winning streak, like champions should” comment. Enjoy the rest, fellas.

  10. 10 Nat_Turner_Wit_Tha_Burner

The Zoo Crew is looking pretty good so far in the first half. Especially toward the end when they made that huge run.

  11. 11 Nat_Turner_Wit_Tha_Burner

Oh Yeah, more than anybody on the team, Prince neads the most rest. he’s already an inconsistant player, we can’t afford to have him fatigued in the playoffs like last year.

  12. 12 john

Walter HERRMANN was on fire in the 1st half. Very happy playing so well and I’m hoping he gets more minutes after this.

Looking for any Pistons fan would be keen to write an article about the favourite team.

    Anyone interested?

    Great Idea, Joe.

I’m really enjoying the burn alot of the bench is getting.

  14. 14 Quick Darshan

Those who tuned out in the first half are missing a good game.

  15. 15 PistonsGirl4Life

Wow, this Foye kid isn’t afraid to shoot from ANYWHERE… that might have been a daggar… I thought he was supposed to be a bust?

All in all not that worried if we lose this game… valuable experience, etc etc etc…

  16. 16 Glenn

    tie game… less than a minute…

  17. 17 Glenn

    Stuckey!

  18. 18 Diablo

    I’m getting a Stuckey jersey…

  19. 19 Quick Darshan

What a fun game! Samb sparks a 14-0 run in the first. Stuckey takes over in the clutch. Amir with a big steal and offensive rebound.

  20. 20 Glenn

love that stuckey gets his only rebound with a second left…

    27pts, 3ast, 1reb… that’s a reggie miller line

  21. 21 PistonsGirl4Life

And they kids win anyways. Happy endings own! Plus I almost starved to death waiting for that last minute to actually end. To quote the immortal Ice Cube…

    “Today was a good day”….

  22. 22 Chandragupta

What a great ending. I love seeing a team that really WANTS to win a game that badly - I hope the starters learn something and are ready to provide that kind of effort come playoff time.

  23. 23 slappy

It seems Stuckey is more of a SG than a pure PG.

  24. 24 Matt C.

Without Billups, Hamilton, and Sheed, whom I consider our 3 best players, I would of accepted it if we lost. Stuckey reminded me of Billups out there. Great game to watch.

  25. 25 JackDutch

i can’t wait to get home from crappy work on watch tivo of this game. it was all kids, all the time! with a win! and orlando lost, so the 2 seed is even closer to a lock.

  26. 26 Chandragupta

I think it is natural for Stuckey to fallout score, and I think especially in this game he saw himself in the role because of who he was paired with.

I don’t think this necessarily makes him a bad candidate for a PG, but I don’t know if he will ever be “pass-first” PG with his scoring ability. However, there are very few “pure” point guards in the NBA anyway, I think he will evolve his passing game to a reasonable enough level to play PG.

  27. 27 LawyerBoy

Nat_Turner: Prince will never be held out of an entire game because of his substantial consecutive games streak. I dunno about giving him 30+ minutes in a game like this, but he can’t be deactivated for a game like Rasheed, Rip and Chauncey were tonight.

  28. 28 Quick Darshan

Remember, we have Chauncey for a few more years so Stuckey has plenty of time to develop.

  29. 29 Mike

Stuckey was a combo card at E. Wash. A great scorer who could also pass.

The Pistons are trying to convert him into a point guard. When he plays with guys like Rip or C-Bill he doesn’t need to score as much. It will take a few years before the becomes really good at the point. In the meantime we can enjoy his scoring, improving defense and an occasional exciting pass or two.

  30. 30 Kevin s.

Just got back from the game, which was fun to watch. Samb in his face mask is extremely scary up close.

  31. 31 Pistonian revolution

that elie sechbach video is assenine. stephen colbert is hilarious. don’t even try to knock him. maybe the reason why this sechback guy doesn’t like colbert is because elie is too stupid and illiterate to understand colbert’s wit and humor. why don’t you spare us your opinions about comedians and stick to what you know: basketball.

  32. 32 Jason

Whats the everyone’s oppnion: do chauncey and sheed play against the Nets?

  33. 33 Jason

ok that was some really horrible typing, english, spelling. Sorry.

  34. 34 Rob G

Watching the game on TiVo - what’s with the wolf howl when the Pistons draw a foul? It’s so weird - it’s like they’re celebrating fouling the other team.

  35. 35 Rob G

Man oh man. I love the fact that Stuckey is figuring out this whole jump shot thing. Awesome!

  36. 36 Mike

Stuckey has a awful lot of talent and is hard worker and quick
learner. He should have a really excellent career.

  37. 37 Brad

Pistonian Revolution, you’re spot on with that no-name dude’s video… to lump Colbert in with Carrot-top and Sagat is a disgrace to comedy. Colbert’s humor is so thickly layered with backhanded compliments, self deprecation, and mockery of our government that no one can appreciate the full spectrum of his genius… not even Colbert.

As far as the game went… didn’t see it. Nice to get a win with our 4th-15th players playing against their 1st-9th.

  38. 38 Mike

Almost everyone says that Amir is too light to guard the bigger bigs that is where Theo would do a better job for us.

I have posted before that I think that he needs to add about 15-20 lbs of muscle.

In last nights game is Amir played a lot of minutes and did a real good job defensively. He did this working with Dyess, Maxie and Cheikh.

    The three T-Wolves bigs are

    Jefferson 255 lbs
    Smith 275 lbs
    Gomes 250 lbs

We basically shut down their bigs last night when Amir was in. Jefferson did almost all of his damage against Theo and Dyess.

Now Smith and Gomes are not exactly all stars by Jefferson is definitely no slouch.

Recently against Toronto Amir showed he could guard Bosh
More recently in the few minutes that he played against the Wiz he did a very good job on Jamison.

Neither of those two guys are exactly slouches.

Yes KG did light up Amir in their first match up but then KG has lit up a lot of guys over his career.

Encouraging recent performances by Amir against some of the bigger and better bigs.

  39. 39 Q Dog

I couldn’t watch the game last night so I followed it on my cell phone, NOT knowing that the big 3 were not even dressed. My mind couldn’t grasp the numbers that were coming back at me. April fools joke indeed. Glad we got the W and it makes total sense to rest those cats until Friday.

    (1) I had the same reacatino as Rob G. to the “wolf howls” that seemed to come at inappropriate times.

    (2) Great to see Stuckey have such a great game, and some of the other “zoo crew” too (although I guess we’ll have to live with Jarvis being inconsistent).

    (3) I still wonder about this strategy, in terms of making sure Detroit has a better record than the top teams in the West in case of an NBA finals matchup. The Hornets and Lakers won last night, and had the Pistons lost, those teams would all be pretty close to being tied. But hey, the Pistons won.

  41. 41 Mike

I don’t think that the Lakers played last night

  42. 42 Kevin s.

Ha, I have a note on the Wolf howl in the summary I’m prepping for this one.

  43. 43 JackDutch

wolf howl was ill-timed to say the least.

walter hermann looks like he’s playing with a volleyball. even that guy seems like he should get in more games. joe d. has assembled a flat-out ridiculous squad.

  44. 44 Boney

    Pistonian,

Colbert is overrated and enjoyed by those that sit around and stroke it to the tones of John Stewart and his Craig Kilborn-wannabe show. Colbert is the one who is asinine with his regurgitated political humor that pretty much lines up with his horrible sarcasm, poor joke delivery and re-hashed humor.

I, as a non-right or left winger and also someone who enjoys a good chortle every now and again should laugh all day at someone like Stephen Colbert. Yet all I do is sit there and shake my head that this ass gets more and more airtime.

  45. 45 Kevin s.

I think Colbert is vastly overrated, but I think Stewart is great.

  46. 46 Keegan

Amir’s doing a great job of staying in front of people, while using his length to make shots difficult. He’s not fouling nearly as much as he used to, which is very reassuring. Samb is a freak.
I don’t know if they even care anymore, but I wonder what the Minnesota media had to say about their team getting run by our second- and third-string. They’ve probably come to expect it, but yeeeessh…

  47. 47 LawyerBoy

Boney, surely you didn’t call Colbert (or was it Stewart?) a “Craig Kilborn-wannabe”. That imples that Kilborn is somehow greater than either of those two, does it not? Regardless of your previously voiced displeasure for Stewart/Colbert, you do realize that Craig Kilborn is horrible, right? Only Craig Ferguson could’ve possibly made a worse host for The Late Late Show than his predecessor. It’s like Michael Ian Black and D.L. Hughley didn’t even audition.
