Walter Herrmann has decided against playing in the Olympics: “He feels the need to be with his family and loved ones rather than playing in the national team,” [Argentina’s coach Sergio] Hernandez revealed to Ole Newspaper. “He told me that basketball is only a job for him, but he explained that the national can’t be considered a job, that it should be a breather, joy and pride but he doesn´t feel this way anymore.” Could it be that wasting away at the end of NBA benches has killed his love of the game? If so, that’s awfully sad since it’s obvious he can play. (via TrueHoop)

I think if The Aryn Bomber had a chance to run the blitzkreig for the his true fatherland he would gladly suit up.
What the hell?
Wow. Walt’s joining in on the recent olympic protests? Good for him. I didn’t know he was such a hardliner on Tibet.
Actually, I’m pretty sure it has more to do with the personal tragedies he’s suffered while playing for the National team. I think he came back from one game to find out his father died. This after two others in his family died a year earlier. Not sure about the details but I’m sure it explains his mindset.
Can anyone explain what Mike means by “Aryn (sic) bomber?”
Presumably a questionable riff on the fact that many Germans settled in Argentina before the world wars, and a few Nazi criminals fled there afterward.
I kinda figured. Poor taste, if you ask me.
There is no doubt he can play. That’s the shame of it all. I predict he’ll reconsider.
