The Pistons can lock up home court advantage in the NBA Finals (assuming, you know, they get that far) with one win in their final two games. Will it happen against the Timberwolves? You have to figure, but there’s a reason they play the games. I’ll be at the Palace filing pre-game, halftime and postgame reports for HOOPSWORLD — leave your thoughts in the comments.

Pimp mode.
What are the tiebreakers against the West? It’s possible the Pistons have already clinched home court advantage, the piece in the Free Press today notwithstanding. In a 3-way tie at 57-25 with the Lakers and Hornets, the group standings would be:
Detroit 3-1
Lakers 3-3
Hornets 2-4
If it’s a tie with the Hornets alone, Detroit won the season series, 2-0.
If it’s a tie with the Lakers, they split the season series, 1-1. The issue is what the next tiebreaker is. I have yet to find what it is, but everyone on the internet seems to assume it’s the same as the Conference seeding tiebreakers. But how much sense does that make? Little, to me. It would seem to make marginally more sense to use your record against the *opposite* Conference. If that’s the case, the Lakers are 20-10 against the East, and the Pistons can do no worse than 21-9 against the West. If true, that would indicate the Pistons have, in fact, already clinched.
By the way: I committed the cardinal sin of blog-reading by not catching up on what I hadn’t read since the last time I’d been here, to reflect the fact that you grappled with this issue last week. So sorry!
Does anybody know someone who works for the team or league to get a definite answer on this? It may well soon be a moot point, but it’d be good to know for future years.
man, it’s friggin’ crickets in here.

So how does the playoff bracket look in the East?
1.Boston
8.Atlanta
4.Cleveland
5.Washington
3.Orlando
6.Toronto
2.Detroit
7.Philadelphia
I think that’s how it will be, can anyone confirm?
Looks about right, Devil… kinda a calkwalk, compared to last year…
Boston and Cleveland should be a really interesting match-up in the 2nd Round, I hope Boston gets the same treatment we recieved last year.
Although it wouldn’t make any difference in the East, it’d be nice if the NBA re-seeded the teams within the Conference after the first round. That way if there are any upsets out West, it’ll actually change the tournament path.
I see Washington beating Cleveland!
I know the Heat and Pistons haven’t gotten along the last few years. I used to come to your blog all the time just to spy on the enemy. Today, I’m asking you to join me in furthering a very important cause. Please help the Sonics:
As citizens of the NBA, it falls on the rest of us to help Save the Sonics! I beg you to please post your team/owner’s information with the following. Thanks!
We Miami Heat fans have put together a proposed plan of action here: http://thesouthfloridafan.blogspot.com/2008/04/how-to-help-seattle-keep-their-sonics.html
It involves this:
IMPLORE EVERY NBA TEAM BLOG TO POST THE ADDRESS OF THEIR OWNERS. IN ADDITION, LETTERS SHOULD INCLUDE SOMETHING LIKE THIS:
“As a form of protest, we vow to boycott any game next season in which the Oklahoma City Sonics play, whether it be in our arena or watching it on television.”
Spread this around as much as you can. It’s going to take the other teams to prevent this from happening. Let’s save the Sonics!
(E-mail your local newspaper too. This is of vital importance)
when the Seattle Sonics leave for OKC, all of Shawn Kemp’s illegitimate children will grow up without being forced to watch their father’s highlights on the TV year after year… I think it’s a good thing. no?

“Hardwood Paroxysm says: And lo, I saw a fro’d rider, on a fro’d horse. And his name was Sheed. And hell (and terrific perimeter defense) followed with him.”
Count that baby and a Finals clinch! Eat that all you Lakers fans sufffocating me out here in L.A.! See you at the Palace for the start of the Finals.
Rob G: What’s a calkwalk? hehe
Sauce: Where do you find this stuff (re: Nic Cage v. Walter Herrmann)? You’re an Amir-hating wealth of obscure information that often provides hilarity.
I kinda think Orlando has the best shot at a sweep in the first round (and then they turn around and get swept in the 2nd, hehe). I really think Atlanta is more likely to steal one from Boston than Toronto is from Orlando. We shall see.
