Dumars: Billups will “try to give it a go tonight”

DBB reader Q-Dog emailed me a little bit ago to inform me that Joe Dumars was a guest on Chad Ford’s NBA Dish podcast on ESPN today:

I just finished listening to ESPN’s “NBA Dish” podcast. Joe Dumars was the featured guest and Chad Ford asked him about Chauncey. He said, “…he went pretty good today, moving pretty good. I think he’s going to try to give it a go tonight. That’s what it looks like. He looked really good today in shootaround.”

I liked what I heard from Joe, very good conversation about the team, the league and even some politics. (and past heated debates between he and Bill Laimbeer)

Dumars is a semi-frequent guest on Ford’s podcast, and as I’ve said before, it’s obvious the two have a good rapport, as Dumars seems more comfortable talking to Ford than he does in most other interviews. Here’s the mp3 of the podcast or listen below:

Ben Q. Rock, how do you think Orlando would matchup against Boston? Orlando seems like they’d have a lot of mismatches to exploit.

  2. 2 Garrett

I’d start Chauncey just to scare the Magic, then sit him for most of the night.

  3. 3 Ben Q. Rock

We’d match up better with Boston than with Detroit, that’s for sure. Rondo always gives us fits, though, because he forces a TON of turnovers. That’s a problem, as is the two-guard position, but the Magic’s frontcourt can go toe-to-toe with the Celtics’ and come out on top.

If CB is 80 percent or better he should give it a go, otherwise, Stuck should play better at home and you also got the hunter. Orlando doesn’t scare me anymore, Lebron’s mom does

    The NBA
where can’t buy a road win happens.
Charles yesterday disagreed with the describtion of the “big 3″…i agree with Bark…gime dem sox!

Apparently Dana Wakiji confirms that Chauncey WON’T give it a try tonight. From what’s generally referred to as “McCosky’s Blog”:

It was a great podcast to hear Joe D tell it like it is!

The “Northwest Pistons Enclave” will be in full effect tonight. Rocking to a Pistons win!

Chauncey is sitting tonight; everyone rejoice!

  9. 9 chandragupta

Yes.. I do hope our guards can hold the fort and end this series, giving chauncey some ample time to heal up for Boston!

  10. 10 Ben Q. Rock

26 more minutes for Lindsey Hunter tonight, do you think?

  11. 11 chandragupta

It think it really depends on how Stuck is producing. If doesn’t get in foul trouble and can make some plays, I say that Flip keeps him in. We’ll see.

  12. 12 Ben Q. Rock

They could just put Afflalo in and have Prince run the point, I suppose.

  13. 13 chandragupta

I would not mind that for short periods of time, honestly. We are a passing offense after all. As long as Tayshaun and/or others are making attempts to get into the lane, it could prove some results.

  14. 14 Laughton

    Nice start by the stones

… it’s obvious the two have a good rapport …

Kinda surprising that Dumars doesn’t carry a grudge over the 2003 draft.

  16. 16 the Allrights

Not suprising at all- Fad Chord has been Joe Dumars biggest fan since Joe assumed figurehead role of GM. Joe does it, Fad writes his praises, and then whatever happens happens. Then Chord either heaps more piles of praise or explains things to make Joe like great.

Why wouldn’t Joe love the guy?

Not that Joe hasn’t been good. He has been. But Chad Ford is a jock carrying Joe D FAN.

  17. 17 the Allrights

meant to say, “make Joe look great.”

And McCosky is to Flip as Fad is to Joe.
