Just close this bitch out tonight. I know without Chaunce, Jameer will probably have a big game but I would prefer if Detroit did the decent thing and just closed this out tonight.
I’m reminded of the DBB reader who put together the notes on McDyess’s performance related to the team. As goes McDyess, so goes the Pistons. His early showing is making me feel quite confident…
my only hope is that this game goes exactly as everyone assumed it would. seems like most people have us already in our SIXTH straight ecf. i hope most people are 100% correct.
At some point they are gonna have to respect there 3 point shooters. Stop leaving them open! Seriously, I would rather Howard hit a measley dunk than have a Bogans or Evans hit a 3.
I hated that Jarvis lineup too. Afflalo strictly dominates him. I can think of no situation other than late game “need to get a three” where I’d prefer to see Jarvis.
No. We’re missing an all star, and need him right now. And as for random flip hating, I’m a flip defender– but that lineup was silly. He had other options on the bench to go to.
great game plan by the staff, the longer this one stays close and drawn out in the first half the more it favor the pistons in the second half. Whether the us against the world push in the 1st & 2nd and the pistons run away in the 3rd and 4th. Weve seen that the Magics best hopes are to run out to a big lead and try and protect it they can stand the wear and tear of 4 qtrs against detroit in the D.
Detroit is the most frustrating elite team to watch. They NEVER let their fans get into a game. Something is always broken. In this case, from 2 minutes to go in the 1st until 6:40 into the 2nd, nobody can hit a shot, and not because the Pistons didn’t get great looks, either . . . ridiculous. Orlando handed this game to us, and we handed it back.

@Prophecy_Projectz: “The switch is off again.”
No. We’re missing an all star, and need him right now. And as for random flip hating, I’m a flip defender– but that lineup was silly. He had other options on the bench to go to.
But there putting bad shot selections up and looking disinterested on D. They did well in the 1st but there just letting slip away. Maybe its Flip’s fault, but we’re one of the deepest teams in the league and Rip and Sheed have been out there during this quarter.
I thought we sucked in the first quarter. Orlando turned it 8 times and Dwight missed god knows how many free throws, and we ended the quarter tied. I’m not giving us too much credit for those turns…Orlando just looked awful.
@Prophecy_Projectz:
That’s my whole point. That lineup was silly, Hayes shouldn’t have been at the two, he has NEVER performed well there– at the same time, Van Gundy brought in Dooling who’s an energy guy. The move would have been to put Afflalo on Dooling. Hunter/Afflalo/Prince/Max/Dyess.
man how many times are we gonna miss a closeout to a three point shooter? they’re gonna make those at a high rate… i hate to be a debbie downer, but i think we’re playing like crap. orlando is just playing worse.
When Old Man River’s one of the more consistent players out there, someone named Flip Saunders has to get in that locker area and annoy the piss out of the team . . .
Because going back to Orlando when the hand was on their throat is inexcusable.
I’m with Laughton. I’ll gladly call out a silly lineup, but I certainly won’t hate. We’re up 7 now, making our living at the stripe. It’s like an homage to Chauncey
Magic are very fortunate to be down only seven at this point. What do they have, like 30 turns already (ok, 12, it feels like 30)? OTOH, if Lindsey keeps insisting on making threes, it’s probably over anyway.
Hell of a great effort by Detroit to finish the 2nd half. Great foul drawn by Rip. They may not be going in there, but Detroit is clearly trying.
I’d rather they get the junk out of their trunk at this stage than to have to have one of these games against some opponents in the next two rounds.
But that’s where the ‘hate’ comes into play . . . better teams win championships. The last one was 4 years ago, guys and gals. Pistons, you gotta do better than this.
It was also stupid. Why the hell are we zoning Turkoglu with our only big on the floor who can guard THE BEST PLAYER ON THEIR TEAM? Oh I forgot, we have Rip rotating…in that case, what’s the worst that could happen?
@Sauce: “better teams win championships. The last one was 4 years ago, guys and gals. Pistons, you gotta do better than this.”
Dude. Our three-time all star point guard is in street clothes. We’re up by 6 at the half against a team that has grown by leaps and bounds since last year. We’re up 3-1 in the series.
In other words, RELAX my friend. Everything is going to be just fine. We’re going to end this series tonight.
No kidding, Ben. Most of us wanted one of those old-time Pistons wins . . . 30 point lead into the 3rd, dancing around, jumping, licking the tears of Scott Tenorman.
Ben Q. Rock, I’ve been gone for a few days and haven’t been on DBB, but I am a regular here and an occasional guest poster. Just wanted to say that you might just be the most diplomatic, friendly, reach-across-the-aisle blogger on the web (aside from Matt W., of course!). I salute you, and like the fact that we can have a sportsmanlike rivalry between our two teams. Kudos to you, my friend.
As frustrating as it can be to be a Pistons fan, it has got to be worse to be a Magic fan right now. Detroit missing a ton of open jumpers in the middle of the half, and the Magic can’t capitalize. It’s like they are holding open the door for Orlando and the Magic keep walking into the wall.
In a close-out game.
With Detroit’s best player in street clothes.
Philly wasn’t as talented, but they took advantage every time the Pistons played crappy. If Orlando could ever get that Philly attitude they would be a little scary.
“Ben is to the Magic as I am to the Pistons. A Pessimist through and through lol.”
I think of myself as more of a realist. With this team, realism and negativity go hand-in-hand, at least historically. It’s been an awesome season, though. It’s nice to, you know, matter.
“Magic’s +/- suggests it’s time to play the Pole lol”
One of my biggest problems with the Magic last game was Stan Van Gundy’s refusal to play Gortat (or, as Dick Stockton would say, “Gotot,”) more.
Ben, would you reduce Dwight’s minutes or just go big more? Neither seems that appealing to me (given that I view Rashard at the 4 as one of Orlando’s biggest advantages matchup wise)…
Did anyone else just see Van Gundy’s Man Titties in his locker room pep talk on TNT? He needs to keep the jacket on…honestly how the hell do you respect that???
I’d like to see what Dwight and Marcin can do on the floor at the same time. They haven’t played a single minute together this season. It negates lewis’ matchup advantage, but also makes us better on the glass. In games like this one, where the Pistons keep getting offensive boards, playing Gortat and Howard together could pay dividends.
Ben Q - hola senior…sorry for late start just returned from Bar (made up with wife) and now on line. Seriously dude, you don’t want that version of the twin towers on the floor…..good time out…restore order!
Jameer’s busting Rodney some more playoff lessons, of all people.
I know it may not be fair for a rookie to be pushed into such a position, being that rookie is Rodney and he wasn’t a top-tier scouting star . . . to boot, Rodney’s already run circles around his expectations, considering we’ve had Darko Milicic (and Orlando too) . . . but at some point, Rodney’s got to see the game better, and that’s just not happening right now.
If we had 75 percent of Chauncey out there, we’d be golden. Right now, Lindsey’s giving about 45 percent of him, while Rodney’s struggling wiht 25 percent. Rodney, I hope you learn these lessons as quickly as you learned about the NBA during the regular season.
I don’t want to face Dwight Howard with most of the NBA’s bigs in 3 years. The guy, hopefully, will get work on his game to go with the experience. He’s got a better skill set than Shaq ever did. I’ve always liked him, even as I’m hating him right now. There’s a Yogi Berra for ya.
Respectfully disagree. Howard will be lucky to be as good as Shaq…Shaq was the best player in the NBA for like 5-7 years. I absolutely love Howard. He’s going to be terrific. But I think Shaq is a top-5 all-time player.
Rodney’s been facing guys like Jameer, Arroyo, Bogans, and Mo Evans. He ought to be seeing the floor crystal clear, even as a rookie. Heaven knows that Bogans, Evans, and Arroyo’s windows have closed.
Rasheed doesn’t get calls because he spends 48 minutes abusing anyone and everyone with his mouth, on the court and on the bench. It’s amazing that he’s not thrown out of every game. If there was a NBA video game rating for shit-talking, Rasheed’s rating would be 237 out of a possible 100.
Laughton i noticed that too. But it also included a lot of really poor offensive choices by several members of the pistons offense that have been turned into fast break points. Rip, especially.
I’ve been thinking about that Van Gundy comment about how “Rasheed changed everything, but Ben leaving didn’t matter.” I have to disagree with what he’s implying. I am increasingly thinking that the reason we’ve maintained our excellence is due to signing McDyess and the other guys improving (especially Prince and Billups). I think that covered up for Ben declining and subsequently leaving. But Ben was every bit as valuable as Rasheed in his prime I think…
The Pistons almost never lose when McDyess shoots over 60%. They better get the job done tonight because there’s been a lot of slack ass play in this game for no reason.
Bad, bad game. Poor decisions, and even more awful shooting. But I still feel confident. Orlando looks even more shaky, Dyess clearly wants it, Tayshaun doesn´t have a good shooting hand but has an otherwise solid game, and Rip is finding the net.
Don’t look now but we have 3 turnovers. That’s unacceptable for Orlando - we’re missing our All Star PG. Upgrading the backcourt is number 1 Magic priority in the offseason I think.
Sadly, I have no cable tonight. If anyone has a game link, I would be very appreciative. My thanks in advance.
Additionally,
Its elimination time!
No Chauncey tonight.
Just close this bitch out tonight. I know without Chaunce, Jameer will probably have a big game but I would prefer if Detroit did the decent thing and just closed this out tonight.
Nice oop…you can always see that play developing with Rip and Tay.

BANG ‘EM LIKE A DRUM DETROIT!
It’s about time they hulk-smashed some team.
I’m reminded of the DBB reader who put together the notes on McDyess’s performance related to the team. As goes McDyess, so goes the Pistons. His early showing is making me feel quite confident…
Chandragupta, check it out on http://www.justin.tv/psn_tr3s
I shall now post in the correct area:)
Sauce: What you said!
my only hope is that this game goes exactly as everyone assumed it would. seems like most people have us already in our SIXTH straight ecf. i hope most people are 100% correct.
Need to slow down
Yup, dice is really on the job tonight
Dwight looks pissed. Frustrated. That’s good. It’s about time the kid started learning how to play the game. This is how it’s played.
Their whole team looks frustrated, morale is looking low. Its a great thing for Detroit.
Hell of a one-handed rebound by Maxiell. Hell of a 2nd chance shot by Prince.
Flip going to Jarvis early. I like this move for some really strange reason.
just woke up to tape the game. good luck to us. good night
At some point they are gonna have to respect there 3 point shooters. Stop leaving them open! Seriously, I would rather Howard hit a measley dunk than have a Bogans or Evans hit a 3.
8 Magic turnovers. Detroit will have to try to help Orlando to a record number of turnovers tonight.
Evans has to score 35 for me to recognize him for anything. As far as I’m concerned, Mo’s a non-factor.
What kind of lineup was that, flip? Hunter/Hayes/Prince/Maxiell/McDyess?
Hayes at the 2 is a bad idea.

lol@ random Flip hating, love it. And its called resting most of the starters at the end of the quarter.
But what a stupid waste to a good quarter. Control it knuckheads!
i can’t remember the last time i’ve seen Sheed hit a 3…
If it wasn’t for Detroit’s horrendous Js, this game would be over. We’re living off Orlando’s turnovers.
Just keep punishing Dwight. It’s getting fun, watching Detroit push him to the limit.
The switch is off again.
sigh..
If we could just hit a couple wide open 3’s
Witness
The Rattler?
HELP!!! can someone keep give me another link please?? that one isnt working for me
Thanks a lot JEZ, you just made a very happy man!

Can someone explain to me why when Gortat comes in we can’t call aa goddamn rasheed post iso.
Gotta love Magic going small (or at a minimum no Dwight) and us having no f’ing clue what to do on offense
The Rattler just did his best impression of early game Amir: lots of energy plays, lots of fouls

That finger roll by Herrmann looks like the kind of shot your fat uncle throws up in the driveway on Thanksgiving. Ug. Lee.
Glad to be of assistance Chandragupta, I have to watch all the games on line, it ain’t perfect, but it’ll do.
hahaha joe that was awesome
Hey nice play call! I’m shocked that a Sheed postup on a terrible player worked.
Is Gortat Jon Barrys evil giant twin?

Rip passed Isiah Thomas as the leading playoff scorer, all-time, for Detroit.
Orlando is playing worse, I mean damn it should be a double digit lead
Lets not start hating after 1 quarter. We haven’t been hitting the 3 (1/8) and we look to be in control of the game most of the time.
This is a terrible basketball lol
Edit: Terrible Basketball game lol
i really love tay. man he’s been good this postseason.
He might have a girls name, but I like Lindsey.
When Old Man River’s one of the more consistent players out there, someone named Flip Saunders has to get in that locker area and annoy the piss out of the team . . .
Because going back to Orlando when the hand was on their throat is inexcusable.
@Laughton - to be clear, I’m not jumping off a bridge or even worried. I just hate crappy play.
That sequence was just depressing. Bouncing off Hermann’s nose and then D12 gets a 3 point play?
A six point lead at the half in a close out game is a good thing. A strong third quarter and the series is over.
To ease up myself . . .
Hell of a great effort by Detroit to finish the 2nd half. Great foul drawn by Rip. They may not be going in there, but Detroit is clearly trying.

Pistons have this one won.

lol@ how matter of fact Charles is about the outcome of tonights game and the whole series for that matter.
How sweet of a job does EJ have? I want to get paid to listen to Charles and Kenny crack jokes.
“30 point lead into the 3rd”
I wouldn’t rule that out. Another, what, 5 crappy entry passes by the Magic should just about do it.
Mike Payne:
It’s a pleasure to be here.
Ben is to the Magic as I am to the Pistons. A Pessimist through and through lol.
Ben relax my dude, if your squad messes around and hits those 3s in the 3rd, its a long night for us…..
Magic’s +/- suggests it’s time to play the Pole lol

I really really really wish I had come up with this line…
Ben, would you reduce Dwight’s minutes or just go big more? Neither seems that appealing to me (given that I view Rashard at the 4 as one of Orlando’s biggest advantages matchup wise)…
Gortat has a bizarre following on a couple of Basketball Message boards I browse with the Euros there on some Chuck Norris type ish…
Boy looks like a funeral in the Magic locker room
i really wish we had a coach as passionate as van gundy
Did anyone else just see Van Gundy’s Man Titties in his locker room pep talk on TNT? He needs to keep the jacket on…honestly how the hell do you respect that???
ROFL !!
what a result, they’re showing the second half on TV, so I don’t have to keep watching this low quality link.
Hell of a good speech by Stan Van Gundy. That’s a solid coach, and that’s exactly the right message to give his team, especially this team.
Detroit lets ‘em in the door, that’s the problem. There should be a deadbolt on that goddamn thing. What is this, thief heaven?
Czar has way too much quickness for Stuckey on the perimeter. You close out that hard and he’s gonna torch you with the drive, Stuck.
I’d like to see what Dwight and Marcin can do on the floor at the same time. They haven’t played a single minute together this season. It negates lewis’ matchup advantage, but also makes us better on the glass. SHEED!
Dwight doesn’t like babies either
3rd Quarter= Sheed time?
Either Hedo or Rashard has to go. Guess with that huge Rashard contract, that means Hedo needs to be shopped.
Good TO by Flip…
Every quarter should be ‘Sheed time.
Ben Q - hola senior…sorry for late start just returned from Bar (made up with wife) and now on line. Seriously dude, you don’t want that version of the twin towers on the floor…..good time out…restore order!
Seriously Ben, you gotta change your blog to Van Gundy’s Man-Titties
VGMT
SHEED Turnaround = money
This has been a game of 6 to 8 point runs. It has a really werid flow.
Stuckey!
I mean damn Auburn Hills, try to get a little excited. Its the Playoffs…
Stuckey = np fear
Van Gundy = Man Titties
STUCKEY!!!! You take it at the BIG MAN!
NIIIIICE
Check that - No Fear
whoa did rodney just throw howard back? he should have just done the lebron dunk from last night though…it’s much cooler.
Nice take Stuckey.
Hedo’s not going anywhere.
and again!
Mo Evans = show pony
Agreed Ben. Orlando just needs to trade 2008 Dwight for 2009 Dwight. And then trade him for 2010 Dwight. And I think they’ll be A-OK.
lol @ Mo Evans trying to Jordan himself a missed free throw for the jam. You still don’t realize how mediocre you are, Mo. Bless you, lol.
Wow Rip is murdering Mo tonight
Man Titties no like call
Nelson hasn’t missed from the field yet.
Magic should run the broken play for a 3 pointer every set
I don’t want to face Dwight Howard with most of the NBA’s bigs in 3 years. The guy, hopefully, will get work on his game to go with the experience. He’s got a better skill set than Shaq ever did. I’ve always liked him, even as I’m hating him right now. There’s a Yogi Berra for ya.
Frustration level rising, Man titties falling
It will all be over soon.
That’s what I keep telling myself.
Philly cheese steak jam
Stuck saw the floor pretty well there!
Stuckey….
nothin more to say.
Ben, just imagine that Stuckey to Howard alley-oop in your mind, what could have been
Way to trade for the victory cigar
“He’s got a better skill set than Shaq”
Respectfully disagree. Howard will be lucky to be as good as Shaq…Shaq was the best player in the NBA for like 5-7 years. I absolutely love Howard. He’s going to be terrific. But I think Shaq is a top-5 all-time player.
I just checked, the Van Gundy Man tittie joke can be cashed 15 more times before getting old
We probably would have taken, hell, I don’t know… someone crappy… with that pick anyway.
If by Shaq you mean no title in Orlando, the comparison may be correct
Rodney’s been facing guys like Jameer, Arroyo, Bogans, and Mo Evans. He ought to be seeing the floor crystal clear, even as a rookie. Heaven knows that Bogans, Evans, and Arroyo’s windows have closed.
I think Lindsey Hunter just manhandled Rashard Lewis on a rebound. He’s officially no longer allowed to complain when people call him soft anymore.
Quit toying with this, close it out fellas
Rashard’s switched-hand dunk was eaten by Max. Rashard better check his man card at the door.
that was a foul
Someone needs to ask Maxiell at the press conference what Lewis’ babies taste like.
And I have no idea how Rasheed didn’t get that call on his home floor.
as stated
SHEED turnaround = money
Uhoh, angry sheed!
on review good no call, Sheed needs to get pissed though
Fratello: “…and then throwing up on Rasheed Wallace.”
I didn’t catch the first part of the sentence. It’s probably better that way.
Just end this mess already. The victor will have played a slightly less horrible game than the loser. What a way to win
Is there anyone in the league who can block that Rasheed fadeaway?
Have we hit a jumper longer then 15 feet besides our two 3’s? We’re shooting 38% right now.
Pistons with a massive 4 bench points
Like I said, strong third quarter and the series is over.
Fucking ridiculous. Detroit, bite me.
“if there was a NBA video game rating for shit-talking”
hahahahahaahahahahaah
But I dont want a game 6!!!!!!
*throws his toys out of the crib*
That rating would only be exceeded by Ginobili’s “flop” rating {279/100).
And, as much as I hate to say it, Dwight Howard’s whining rating woul dbe in the low-to-mid 80s.
Need to see some closer attitude at the start of the 4th.
Ben, how nice of you to spend the last 12 min of your season with us…
Feel free to join us later and jump on perkisastiff.com
The magic run started when stuck left the floor.
Just sayin.
LeBron’s “maternal tolerance” would be a -17
PerkIsAStiff? Was SambIsABeast already taken?
This is where Lindsey needs to change the tenor of the game.
Flip’s tie = WTF
Laughton i noticed that too. But it also included a lot of really poor offensive choices by several members of the pistons offense that have been turned into fast break points. Rip, especially.

McD jumper = good sign
Dice clearly fouled Howard on that rebound. But why does that matter? Dwight should just rip him in half.
nice job my stuckey, finding open mcdyess
roll the dice
McD von Facemask is lookin hungry
Like the maxy on turkey matchup
the last two minutes have been a jmax show!
Maxiell is the closest thing out there to Bad Boys action. He is straight abusing anyone and everyone that gets into the paint.
Hedowned and Babies Eaten Collide!
Need to put the Ateam back in and close this shit out
Someone wanna tell me why Rip Hamilton is not in the friggin game but Juan Dixon is?
Yeah, Dixon should not be out there.
Why not Afflalo?
I’ve been thinking about that Van Gundy comment about how “Rasheed changed everything, but Ben leaving didn’t matter.” I have to disagree with what he’s implying. nice plays by stuck on the D side and O side
Turk just hurt his {insert female body part here}
excellent recovery by maxiell to rashard…he is just playing great right now
Ugh. You do not wanna get into a rebound fight with McDyess. That plastic mask, the nose on that thing is an eagle’s talon.
fyi rashard, ur soft
Show em what heart looks like Dyess
lol, that Antonio/Rashard matchup finally pays off after like 50 possessions.
TNT broadcast just summed up Magic 4th and my high school life
“scoreless action”
Penalty time for mag… time for Stuck to start driving
Nice, in the bonus with over half the fourth left.
Bad, bad game. Poor decisions, and even more awful shooting. But I still feel confident. Orlando looks even more shaky, Dyess clearly wants it, Tayshaun doesn´t have a good shooting hand but has an otherwise solid game, and Rip is finding the net.
I’m goin’ out on the ledge now. Magic in the penalty, over 6 minutes to go, against a top FT-shooting Detroit club . . . I think it’s over.
It better be over within the next 3 minutes.
Pistons in the bonus with 6.5 to play, and the Magic can’t get an open look.
It’s over.
boy our d has really tightened up, this is awesome
And that three just about does it.
TAYYYYYY
DAGGER!
STUCKEY!
MAN TITTIES!
Bring on the Man-child/Green Team. Predictions for that other series?

Tay-tay, you are huge! That 3 was a real dagger.
Stuckey has been great tonight I think. Good floor game, solid defense, and making a living in the paint in the fourth.
I don’t think it’s quite over yet, but we’re definitely giving new meaning to the term, “grinding it out”.
Don’t look now but we have 3 turnovers. That’s unacceptable for Orlando - we’re missing our All Star PG. Upgrading the backcourt is number 1 Magic priority in the offseason I think.
na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey
Close this bitch out Detroit. Close. This. Bitch. Out
