Mike, let's hope the Bulls take Brook Lopez. That'll make the Darko pick seem like a genius decision :)

LawyerBoy,

After watching the game tonight, I am not surprised with how it actually played out. I got my hopes up and actually believed that Detroit would come out sharp after being off for a long time, and as usual I was wrong. I got all my pre-series hype out of my system with that last post before the game, forgive me.

Now I will go back to arguing with Prophecy_Projektz about how he/she's an idiot. I still pick Detroit in 6... but just like with the Lions, you can't put all your eggs in one basket with this Piston team. They don't break your heart often, but when they do, life sucks until they play again.

Game 2 is winnable... need more turnovers forced, less unforced turnovers... need more ball movement and off the ball movement. Too much 1 on 1... it looked Game 3 Pistons tonight, and not the usual Game 1.

pistons proven to have more rust over rest...this happened throughout the season, after the all star games and in the beginning of the playoffs. almost from start to finish of this game, pistons are not too far from throwing bricks, most shots they normally make are missed shots. i still give credit to the celts, but the effort and energy they have on game 1 almost proves that this is all they have, to give, this is their highest level. detroit didn't even play close to their level. for some reason, i realize that i should be happy with this lost considering detroit's rust has been shaken and considering they will respond the way they did on their first loss to philly and orlando. detroit lost in game 1 to philly and realize they can't sit back and relax, so they won game 2. they lost to orlando in game 3 and realize they need to make a complete team effort to win one on the road without chauncey and they did in game 4. those were the 2 key wins the won their series and hopefully game 2 in boston would be.

Boney: Completely baffling how that call was not made. I'm don't have a high opinion of NBA officiating, but even they should be able to make the right call in that situation.

ExileOnDamien: I think that's kind of harsh (not saying Paxson isn't far from Isiah based on his track record, but I don't see this huge harm in taking Beasley). You can't always go with the sentimental favorite, especially that high up in the draft. Obviously you don't think highly of Beasley and that's all well and good, but the Bulls have committed a lot of years of starter's money to Hinrich (approx. $9.5 mil./year through 2012) and unless they can move it, taking Rose seems counter-intuitive to me. We shall see, I suppose.

Boney, I'm not trying to be an ass I swear, but I remember very vividly that you were about as confident about the Pistons winning Game 1 in an earlier thread as I (and many others) am confident that they will win the serie sin six. I suppose you're very much entitled to the "Hindsight is 20/20" defense (And I mean at the end of the day I'll give it to you if you contest the nature of my post, because I realize Boney+LB is an unstoppable force if we band together. The last thing I want to do is leave you feeling insulted), but you were just so adamant earlier about your prediction. I'm kind of confused as to you sort of "re-writing" your expectations, as I see this most recent comment.

Bulls take Beasley over Rose?

Rose = point guard with size.

Beasley = Marcus Fizer.

Rose is from Chicago, if Paxson doesn't take Rose, he's as dumb as Isiah Lord Thomas III.

Of course with Detroit losing by 9 (or 12 if you don't count Tay's final 3) on Boston's home court, in Game 1, is to be expected. After a layoff, and playing a team in rhythm, you should really expect nothing worse than a close game halfway through the 4th and then a breakaway layup by Rondo with a non-call charge by Posey on the pass.

We can't get down on the way Detroit played tonight. The defense can improve a lot, but they need to get more physical. They got physical with Dwight Howard and with the 76ers after taking their first punch...

Couple of things I forgot to mention because I wanted to check and make sure I wasn't imagining it. Boston ran their starters for the win.
We played our bench longer than the Celtics by 10min, Pierce played the most minutes and Boston had four players with more than 38min (we had two)
Fatigue will be a factor later in the series and Flip knows it, in fact he's counting on it. Garnett probably won't shoot 64% again (unless he is open all game again) Those fall aways by Pierce will not find the target the entire series.
It's not a hell of a lot to hang our hats on, but our edge in energy will help us later.

I think O-Town is a little loopy in terms of Sheed v. KG or whoever v. KG (Dice?), but I got us absolutely being far better at PG, SG and whatever position the Perkins match up counts for. Pierce v. Tay feels pretty even to me. I suppose Pierce may have a mild edge but I'm hardly willing to give him much more than that. Even so, a giant edge on 3 of 5 while Boston only has a huge edge on 1 of 5 and obviously a colossal edge on coach as O-Town reminds us, makes it 4 of 6. O-Town isn't saying something particularly absurd. Shooby no hard feelings, but I think your pessimism even exceeds Prophecy and I never thought I'd find someone more pessimistic on DBB than Prophecy let alone far more pessimistic than him (all in good fun I hope Prophecy, I appreciate your comments, you're one of the almost overwhelming multitude of good guys on DBB in my book. I apologize in advance if the jab is taken to be harsh).

Shooby, I think you're in the minority, buddy. I don't have much worry about the actual games that follow proving your opinion. Obviously you don't want it to happen (you are a Pistons fan, right?), but I think you're overreacting. The Pistons lost Game 1 at HOME to the Sixers after not playing for about 96 hours, so I'm not gonna worry about losing Game 1 on the ROAD to Boston after sitting pretty for approximately 148 hours (and Chauncey, sitting on an approximate 312 hour break). Guess who shot crappy for us in Game 1 of the Philly series? The guards, Rip and Chauncey are the ones who shot crappy. Not shocking. Jumpers are largely a rhythm thing for those guys since they're used to playing at the most sparse, once every three days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the layoff for the Pistons in terms of the series as a whole, but I think it's a decided disadvantage (especially for Rip and Chauncey) for Game 1. The Pistons played somewhat short of "okay", not even close to good, and they weren't even blown out of the gym. I look for the Celtics to get worn down as the series drags on and for the Pistons to start to get in a groove starting on Thursday and carrying that over for wins in Games 3 and 4. I still say 3-1 when this series goes back to Boston for Game 5.
