I have one request to make tonight from each of the Pistons and DBB: Pistons, give it your all and play hard for 48 minutes. Let’s win or lose playing our best. DBB, please don’t talk about the offseason during the game i.e. blowing up the core if we get down by 10, etc. We don’t want the Pistons to quit, and neither should we.
Sheed didn’t do much of his dance there. Hope that means he is in the ZONE. We need everybody to be.
BTW, did you hear Rivers say 3 or 4 times “We are the better team”. It seemed like he was trying to convince himself as much as anyone. Keep drinking the kool-aid, Doc. This is going 7.
Hey, before this thing gets started and crazy, I just wanted to say that no matter what happens in this game, this season has been a hell of a lot of fun. I can’t fathom that this is it, so we’re going 7 fellas. And this place has really become awesome this year, let’s bring it tonight!
I know this might be over-analyzing the first 3 possessions, but we’re taking it straight at them and to the hoop so far. That’s a fantastic sign early.
Also, I don’t like how this game is being called early. I know most of the calls have gone against them so far, but we all know what might happen late.
We CANNOT expect this game to be handed to us. The Cs FEAR a game 7, so you know that they believe THIS is the game they need to win. So they will fight. We need to D UP the WHOLE game, not just the last half of the 4th quarter.
And Billups doesn’t have one yet, does he? The only fouls I remember are the moving screen on Dyess, Sheed’s lazy one, and that one on Rip there before the break.
Prophecy_Projectz: I can handle the negativity towards the Pistons, but one thing I just won’t stand for is using “there” instead of “their”. This is DBB, after all, where proper grammar and spelling are paramount.
Just because the shot clock reads 0 doesn’t mean there isn’t 0.9 seconds on the clock. That’s f-ing ridiculous. How does that not count and KG’s from the other night does?
@Other Matt: It can’t be 0.9. The clock starts at 24. Then it ticks to 23 after 1 full second. During that entire time it’s 23.9, 23.8, 23.7, etc. So when it’s at 1 it’s the same thing. It’s 1 for 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, etc. It only hits 0 at 0.0.
big UGH to tayshaun. the guy was so huge in our first two series, and now is laying the egg of all eggs in this ecf. i knew he was going to have a tough series having to match up with either bron-bron or pierce, but i can’t see stat lines with 0-fers and turnovers.
I just flipped it over to UFC and Drew McFedries pretty much hospitalized some guy with a vicious uppercut, and then some punches to the face after the knockout. Brutal.
seems like the announcers are rooting for boston. no pos comment on ice stuckey other than lets rave about instant replay taking away shot. off goes the sound
hmm, apparently rip’s right elbow is healthy enough to shove up in ray allen’s grill. go rip. maybe he was trying to sandbag, saying he wouldn’t play during the regular season, but doc rivers wasn’t buying any of it per his pre-game interview, anyway.
now if our frontcourt can start delivering like our backcourt, we’ll be fine… not fined, fine…
When Rip is running through all his screens and the Celtics switch Pierce on him, we should immediately post up Tay on Ray Allen and try and get him going.
Aren’t two of Garnett’s fouls on loose balls where Rasheed went hard for the board? Is there a reason we can’t expect this from him every game? This guy should average 20-10 (gee, wonder if anyone else has ever had this thought).
Something happened at the 5 min. mark. Something changed. Our boys are dialed in defensively. They are pissed. Close out the half boys… you can do this. Come on!!
Tim: So true. What they should say is, “LEON POWE? You’re in the Eastern Conference Finals and you’re relying on LEON POWE to fill the power forward spot? Grim.”
As good a scorer as Pierce is, I really don’t enjoy his skill set. Like, when he has the ball and he starts doing his moves and stuff, or shooting his jumpers, I just don’t like it. It’s not exciting, it’s not interesting, it just is. And some how he manages to score a lot without being exceptionally fast, tall, strong, or a good leaper.
Foul situation is 12 for Boston, 5 for us. I seriously fear that evening out in the second half.
67% from the line isn’t going to cut it.
And seriously, I know Rasheed’s out there and everything, but maybe the big guy could put the ball in the hoop a couple times if that isn’t too much to ask?
If our guards keep playing at this level and getting to the basket, we’re going to be in this right until the end.
So should they stick with wide open jumpers which you have been missing, but have the advantage of being wide open. Or do they keep going to the rim and hope the calls stay consistent?
Rasheed is winning the rebound battle for us. He’s gotten several tough boards and made some nice tapouts on the offensive end. He needs to figure out Perkins on the block though.
I´m counting on Dice taking a deep breath in the lockers, and remind Tay and Sheed of the many ways they can make a huge difference besides shooting well. Rip and Chauncey are playing superbly, and the defense was very good in the last minutes. This game will be won by if the frontcourt reminds itself of teamspirit, if it just loses its fear, if they all just play.
We’re fine. I’d like to see us make a run early in the third though. You have an advantage here, in that if you have a 10 point lead, you can get Boston thinking “we’ve got game 7 at home.”
From Dime Magazine’s Smack today: You think TNT isn’t anticipating a Lakers/Celtics Finals? They had a whole video montage ready to go right after the game chronicling the Lakers/Celtics regular season series. As far as Lakers/Pistons, all they had was a graphic….
let stuckey play more the guy has ice in his veins. you can’t learn that and it is the most excellent consolation prize if it doesn’t happen this year.
Other Matt, I think you are right in theory, but I have seen that not work enough times that it makes me nervous. A lot of Pistons turnovers seem to happen when they go hard to the rim, draw contact that would normally be a foul, and end up with no call. A lot of times the lack of calls is the cause and not going to the rim is the effect instead of the other way around.
That said, the first half was encouraging for a go to the rim strategy.
Triple OT, thanks for stopping by and pointing out everything that’s already been discussed. We greatly appreciate your opinion on our team when we’ve watched all 98 games this team has played this season.
If you have anything meaningful to contribute or something that we’ve missed, it’s welcome, otherwise I’ll take a pass.
Thanks TripleOT. We’re also shooting 38% and have created several nice shots for Prince that haven’t gone down. I’d also remind you of how the Celtics have played under pressure on the road.
Man, Canadian sports casters want to talk about any sport other than basketball. It’s almost creepy. They rush through (or ignore completely) the basketball highlights, but fawn all over some curling, or some MLB farm team, or the Canadian Football League. And that’s only in the few minutes when they’re not talking about hockey.
Michael, I’ve seen enough of this team over the years to know that we’re at our best when we’re driving the ball to the hole and working from there. We get bogged down when we try to work the ball around the perimeter and settle for jump shots. Good things happen when we are aggressive. If we keep taking it to them, it’s going to put them in foul trouble, us on the line, and keep our guys in the game (instead of getting disinterested when we’re just working the ball around the perimeter).
I find it weird when people point out the opposing team “isn’t playing well” because they’re “shooting poorly”. As if our defense has nothing to do with it. When Boston holds us to 38% shooting it’s “great defense” when we hold them to 38% shooting it’s “bad offense”. It can’t be both.
“Listen guys, you’re playing great.” Wow. 36.4% from the field and they’re losing they’re not winning on the boards, something they’ve done in 4 of 5 games prior to this one? Sure Doc Rivers, sure. Keep telling yourself they’re playing great.
Both teams are playing really good defense right now. I don’t think either team can expect to shoot much better than 40% and think it’s just bad shooting if they don’t…
what did the pistons do to deserve this endless disrespect? against san antonio it was all about was duncan all time. as if the pistons weren’t even the champs. against miami the pistons were taking it easy and gassed. never mind that wade was unstoppable and went on to win it all. last year it was all about le bron and how the pistons dissappoint and take it easy again. le bron did put up super human performance in game 5. now the pistons are battling the team with the best record in a tight series and it is the same old story. i sure wish i was as successful in my job as these guys are in theirs. play hard and be proud. fuck the media agenda! i love you sheed sorry to hear about that fine, wonder if stern uses it to pad his salary?
I like them going to the rack, but I also like them working the ball around the perimeter. It’s when one of smalls isolates, while dribbling 10 seconds of the clock, they hose themselves.
Let’s do this.
If game 5 showed us anything, it is that 10 points down is not the end of the world.
Forty, couldn’t agree more.
We WILL win this game. By 12.
Game 7, honestly, could go either way, but I like our chances if the refs stay out of it as much as possible.
Let’s get this on!
The intro said “The ever-present Pistons”. I like that.
Though Stuart Scott predicted a C’s win. He said an LA/ Boston is going to happen. Let’s make him eat his words.
How about that montage that featured several Boston highlights and several Pistons lowlights (Bird steal, LBJ dunk). Go Team NBA!
Okay boys, let’s this not be the end of the season.
I hope the players recognize how lop-sided the coverage is, because that would be some killer motivation.
Before the game begin I’m going to say it anyway.
Fucking mother fucking REFS.
There I said it.
(by the way, I should totally be doing work right now but I’m refreshing the screen every minute and watching the game. Boo yah)
Hey, before this thing gets started and crazy, I just wanted to say that no matter what happens in this game, this season has been a hell of a lot of fun. I can’t fathom that this is it, so we’re going 7 fellas. And this place has really become awesome this year, let’s bring it tonight!
YES, Pistons got the jumpball and attacking first. I am smelling GAME 7.
Other Matt: I love you guys, man!
eat that foul FATMAN, eat it.
I know this might be over-analyzing the first 3 possessions, but we’re taking it straight at them and to the hoop so far. That’s a fantastic sign early.
I’m ready! Do or Die Time, tonight! Just like the past two ECFs with our backs against the wall in a game 6, I still have their backs, lets get it!
I’ll only be here till the half. So I hope the first half is a great one!
nothing is wrong with Hamilton’s arm.
Huh. 2 minutes of game time has gone by and there have been, like, 5 fouls called. Not a good sign.
the Palace should be going CRAZY. They seem subdued. Not good. Not good at all.
Also, I don’t like how this game is being called early. I know most of the calls have gone against them so far, but we all know what might happen late.
Other Matt: Yeah, I’d rather just see them play. There’s a whistle every posession down the court it seems.
Why is Sheed not on the block!?!?!
Boston’s offense is terrible so far. What are they thinking?
2 wide open misses for Tay, not good.
Stop passing the ball to Prince. He can’t hit anything.
I wish Tay would’ve made those shots. 2 of them were WIDE open. He was money the first two series. We need him back.
Rasheed is never on the block! Call up Carlos Boozer if you want “on the block.”
Prince is the “Ray Allen” of the Pistons.
Except, you know, he’s actually been good in the playoffs at some point.
Keegan, never is a little strong.
I humbly submit: “rarely.”
Drive it to the rim, that’s one way to try to break out of this thing…
Smart move. If the shots are not falling then attack the basket.
I DO NOT like our D right now.
We CANNOT expect this game to be handed to us. The Cs FEAR a game 7, so you know that they believe THIS is the game they need to win. So they will fight. We need to D UP the WHOLE game, not just the last half of the 4th quarter.
DEEE-FENSE!
That was a very lazy foul by Sheed.
Lame foul by Sheed with the forearm shiver, but at least Rondo went 1 for 2.
BEAUTIFUL move by CB!
Also, I really hate that weird side-angle sky cam thingy.
B-B-B-Billups is a-bu-bu-bu-busing Rondo.
Can someone on the Pistons get a defensive board? Hey, I sound like Bill Walton!
Our D is full of holes. And our rebounding is pathetic.
We’re getting killed with dribble penetration. Sadly, Rondo is going to force us to guard him.
Son of a bitch. 2 fouls for Billups already.
Garrett, first you must discuss Rondo’s “magnificent rack.” Then, and only then, will you truly sound like Bill Walton.
ANYONE but Rondo. ANYONE!
I still have Gibson nightmares from last season.
That last foul was on Rip, and was his first if I’m not mistaken.
That looked like a moving screen on Pierce to me, as he pushed Hamilton into Billups
And Billups doesn’t have one yet, does he? The only fouls I remember are the moving screen on Dyess, Sheed’s lazy one, and that one on Rip there before the break.
I thought so, too, Forty.
4 for 5 Rip!
Awesome, Ray Allen is on fire.
5 for 6 Rip!
At least Rip is too.
Shootout Rip vs. Ray.
Ice in Stuck’s veins!
I thought that shot was good.
Haha! Stuckey is the man. Stick the jumper with no time on the clock, and turn around and walk off the court like nothing happened. Gangsta.
Van Grundy is once again a moron.
Came in late, suprised we’re trailing but its early days. Not a good sign to see Rondo and Ray hitting there shots.
Rip is looking very good to start, can’t even tell if he is hurt or not.
btw, nice shot by Stuckey.
Bullshit!
You bastards.
And of course, it is taken away.
Prophecy_Projectz: I can handle the negativity towards the Pistons, but one thing I just won’t stand for is using “there” instead of “their”. This is DBB, after all, where proper grammar and spelling are paramount.
The shot was NOT good. He had it in his hands at 0. Too bad.
Just because the shot clock reads 0 doesn’t mean there isn’t 0.9 seconds on the clock. That’s f-ing ridiculous. How does that not count and KG’s from the other night does?
Not gonna count it? Just count it, come on…
Van Grundy is such a moron that I am hating him very very much.
bah damnit
Yeah, they should count it! What good is homecourt advantage if you can’t get a little home cooking?
The key to shutting down Allen is to get up in his face and no room or space to shoot the ball.
Sheed? Sheed? Where are you?
big UGH to tayshaun. the guy was so huge in our first two series, and now is laying the egg of all eggs in this ecf. i knew he was going to have a tough series having to match up with either bron-bron or pierce, but i can’t see stat lines with 0-fers and turnovers.
rip is quite a gamer.
Am I crazy, or should the Pistons not worry about doubling KG? He is good, but we have the players to defend them straight up.
I just flipped it over to UFC and Drew McFedries pretty much hospitalized some guy with a vicious uppercut, and then some punches to the face after the knockout. Brutal.
Samiam keep shooting.
Forty, your math and logic have no place here!
Also, how is that not an offensive foul on Perkins? McDyess ends up 4 rows deep and Perkins ends up with an easy layup. Come on.
The Palace is quiet.
The D is bad.
The rebounds are worse.
Only Rip is playing really well.
Not good.
Wow, what a nice turnaround fadeaway by Maxiel.
Stuckey with the BLOCK! Day-um!
STUCKEY WITH A BLOCK
damnit rip is down.
Now that was a Dywane Wade-esque play by Stuckey!
Great block by Stuck.
Is it just me, or does it seem like Cassell has NO IDEA what their offensive sets are?
@Dash Rick, and yet this is still a close game.
Our offense isn’t good right now.
Well this is a bit unexpected….
Rasheed getting blocked by Perkins cannot be a good sign.
C’mon boys! Let’s go!
Tay!
Sheed!
Dice!
We need you to show up! Please! PLEASE! Its the ECF. Its an elim game. PLAY!!!!
Might Perk be a beast?
lol god i hate that angry turkey
Forty!?!?!? Please, no. Not you! Put the Kool Aid down. It is NOT worth it. Please, step away from the cup. Forty, Forty, can you hear me… Forty!!!!
Moving screens now legal (except for Dice).
seems like the announcers are rooting for boston. no pos comment on ice stuckey other than lets rave about instant replay taking away shot. off goes the sound
What the hell are we doing out there? We do know this is an elimination game, right?
CB airs a 3.
i h8 posey lol omg
Come on, we can’t play like this for long stretches, it’s do or die time!
2 turnovers in 4 minutes from the alleged vet who bitched his way off the court the other night. thanks, lindsey.
It’s hard to tell which team is facing elimination.
We have no rhyme, rhythm, or reason to our offense. Without Rip we are SUNK in this game.
Lets get a run before half.
This is a pretty big possession right here.
Friendly bounce anyone?
The Golden Arm looked pretty good on that corner three — a million bounces later and it dropped! Nice.
Fucking take Prince out of the game. He’s not doing anything right.
ARGH!? Great play there, Rondo takes a contested 3 and Tay fumbles a wide open rebound out of bounds. Tremendous.
lol@ Tayshaun
Damn, it’s better when you get the rebound off a Rondo three, not tip it out of bounds, Tay.
Prince is the only player with +/- > 0 today for us. He’s been the best Piston on the floor.
/sarcasm
Nice trapping there.
Tay is struggling!
We know that talking about winning a championship is boring, but try to stay awake there Perk…
No, Tayshaun.
Yeah, Chauncey.
Sheed, hit the glass like this every night!
Billups looks so much better this game…he’s got some hop in his step.
our guards came to play tonight. except for lindsey hunter. retire you old, old man.
Billups is really playing well so far. And maybe a little Ginobli there on the follow.
BOYS!!! PLEASE!!! PLAY!!!
Is that 3 on KG?
Rip just got shot out of a cannon on that Ray Allen push. He’d better get it in now before he can get fined for it.
Rip you get fined! Oh wait, not until next year.
3
Sweet, let’s close out the half here!
Dash Rick: They’re playing, damn it! They’re playing!
KG is out for the half. ATTACK!
After watching that Perk/Rondo clip, where do we set the over under on Perk’s SAT? 750?
Ouch. Two tough breaks with the shot clock.
Stinking shot-clock.
Push it push it, the celtic defense isnt that great right now, especially with the pick and roll
Garret. Yes, they are playing, but NOT like its an elim game in the ECF!
Whoa, was that a change of possession Bennett? Looked mighty close.
hmm, apparently rip’s right elbow is healthy enough to shove up in ray allen’s grill. go rip. maybe he was trying to sandbag, saying he wouldn’t play during the regular season, but doc rivers wasn’t buying any of it per his pre-game interview, anyway.
now if our frontcourt can start delivering like our backcourt, we’ll be fine… not fined, fine…
Forty are we talking about the old out of 1600 SAT, or this new-fangled out of 2400 version?
When Rip is running through all his screens and the Celtics switch Pierce on him, we should immediately post up Tay on Ray Allen and try and get him going.
Aren’t two of Garnett’s fouls on loose balls where Rasheed went hard for the board? Is there a reason we can’t expect this from him every game? This guy should average 20-10 (gee, wonder if anyone else has ever had this thought).
ps. jack dutch, go crawl back under your rock. hunter’s jersey will hang from the rafters, and he’s been clutch during this year’s playoffs.
Something happened at the 5 min. mark. Something changed. Our boys are dialed in defensively. They are pissed. Close out the half boys… you can do this. Come on!!
No off-arm on Perkins raking Sheed across the face? Ouch.
I kind of want to punch JVG in the mouth.
what in the hell is Van Grundy talking about?
Poe just got in the game and they already shlobing his nob. Fucking ESPN.
Man, I really liked JVG at the start of the playoffs but now he’s a crazy person.
Good D there.
Let’s close this half out right!
Tim: So true. What they should say is, “LEON POWE? You’re in the Eastern Conference Finals and you’re relying on LEON POWE to fill the power forward spot? Grim.”
Powe really should get 15 mpg for these guys though…he’s way better than PJ
Pierce walks to the rim.
Damn, Chauncey, keep this up!
CB attacking.. love it!!
Man we are some Tay jumpers away from a lead here
I like CB’s assertiveness.
How is that not a moving screen every time that big oaf Perkins touches anybody?
our starting front court is 1 of 11 for 3 points.
why can’t nobody can grab the offensive rebounces?
As good a scorer as Pierce is, I really don’t enjoy his skill set. Like, when he has the ball and he starts doing his moves and stuff, or shooting his jumpers, I just don’t like it. It’s not exciting, it’s not interesting, it just is. And some how he manages to score a lot without being exceptionally fast, tall, strong, or a good leaper.
Go Pistons! I’m outta here. Gotta run. God Bless you guys! See you Sunday night.
Later Dash Rick!
leon powe has outscored our starting backcourt.
I just laughed out loud at Breen’s “your brother also thought you were very annoying as a child” comment at JVG.
I wonder if Maxiell can bench press Samb and Amir at the same time?
Forty: Dead on. Tay’s having a rough night.
Man, got away with one there at the end of the half. Karma from the Stuckey overturn and the Billups shot clock violation.
Trying to stay positive, but its not a good sign when you are getting all the calls, and you are still down three…
It’s a good thing Chauncey and Rip came to play tonight. I don’t mind that close to the half, as long as something starts coming from inside.

So should they stick with wide open jumpers which you have been missing, but have the advantage of being wide open. Or do they keep going to the rim and hope the calls stay consistent?
Also, apparently we’re winning the rebound battle 23-22. Who knew?
Michael, you go to the rim. The more aggressive team gets the whistles, gets to the line, and creates its own offense. We must keep attacking.
Rasheed is winning the rebound battle for us. He’s gotten several tough boards and made some nice tapouts on the offensive end. He needs to figure out Perkins on the block though.
turn off the sound. they are itchin to write a piston obit.
Kobe is the man. I don’t care what anyone says.
it sure would be nice to delay off their story for another game. maybe sheed and tay will get hot.
We’re fine. I’d like to see us make a run early in the third though. You have an advantage here, in that if you have a 10 point lead, you can get Boston thinking “we’ve got game 7 at home.”
The Celtics are shooting only 36%, getting called for fouls (12-5), and are in the lead in the Piston’s building in a close out game?
The Pistons didn’t score one time when going to Rasheed in the post the entire first half.
From Dime Magazine’s Smack today: You think TNT isn’t anticipating a Lakers/Celtics Finals? They had a whole video montage ready to go right after the game chronicling the Lakers/Celtics regular season series. As far as Lakers/Pistons, all they had was a graphic….
let stuckey play more the guy has ice in his veins. you can’t learn that and it is the most excellent consolation prize if it doesn’t happen this year.

go Tay!!! Keep it up.
Hey everybody! Tay’s here!
It’s great to see Tay make a shot.
Everyone will remember where they were when Prince hit.
I like them going to the rack, but I also like them working the ball around the perimeter. It’s when one of smalls isolates, while dribbling 10 seconds of the clock, they hose themselves.
B-B-BILLUPS!
Damn Billups.
Senor larger than average shot!
Mr humongous shot!
This is the best Billups has played in a loooong time. He’s had some good scoring games, but he just looks ON in this one.
We haven’t made a run all game…I feel like one is coming soon.
+ infinity for JVG with “they need to play aggressive defense without fouling, that’s the key”. No wonder he was an NBA coach. Brilliant!
Chauncey is doing it all. Come on Detroit, keep doing what you´re doing.
Wallace is not even trying. Is he trying to lose?
And Rasheed is here, too.
Thank you Sheed. See how easy that looks?
