CK:

I am pretty confused as well, but remember, according to Chad Ford, Darko was a guy who would "change the game".

Still baffled by this pick with Walker, CDR, Deandre Jordan, and others there...

but its a 2nd rounder so who knows.

Also...Walter Sharpe was shot at age 19 and ran 1/2 mile with the bullet in him!

AL.com, 4/10/06: "Police found Walter Sharpe, 19, sitting on a curb outside the gates at Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens on Cotton Avenue just after 1 p.m. with a gunshot wound in the lower left abdomen. Sharpe was sitting up and talking to police, after he initially denied he’d been shot.

Authorities said that while his injuries didn’t appear life threatening, the nature of his wound — a small caliber bullet still inside him — could quickly change.

Sharpe, a college sophomore, was kicked off the Mississippi State roster this season after a series of suspensions for team rule violations which included missed practices and classes, repeated tardiness and a missed team flight to a game in California.

The shooting is under investigation. Sharpe told police he was in Loveman Village public housing community when he heard gunfire and started to run. He said he ran as far as he could, which was more than a half mile, before he stopped and police found him.

Officers who were told to be on the lookout for a gunshot victim saw and questioned him. He was holding his left arm over the wound, and had it covered with a bloody towel.

When paramedics arrived, Sharpe tried to stand up and said, “I’m OK.” Paramedics said, “No you’re not,” and ordered him to sit back down until the ambulance arrived. He was taken to UAB Hospital."

I'm guessing this kid is going to run through wall for the Pistons if he gets the chance because he's had a pretty rough go of things to this point.

I mean seriously WTF is Dumars thinking here? I swear this guy makes one good pick in the draft and backs it up with a year or two of God awful picks.

We needed a big guy in the post and apparently got him in White. Then we traded him for Walter Sharpe we according to Chad Ford is a "second round to undrafted" type of guy. Oh, and we picked up the 46th pick in the draft, because what this team really needs is more guys to sit on the end of the bench. Maybe the Pistons picked up Men's Warehouse as a sponsor next season and need more guys wearing suits on the bench to help sales. That's the only way this trade makes any sense.

Walter Sharpe had undiagnosed narcolepsy for most of his life according to this AL.com story. He was declared ineligble this spring.

"UAB head coach Mike Davis defended Sharpe's academic performance before Monday's practice.

"There's so much behind this story," Davis said. "The truth will come out sooner or later about the kid. He's a great young man. He's probably the most misunderstood player I've ever coached and probably one of the most misunderstood kids in the country. Once it comes out, you'll have a better feel for the position that Walter is in."

While Davis wasn't specific, he was apparently referring to a medical condition that has affected Sharpe's academic performance. Sharpe said Monday that he was diagnosed with narcolepsy during the fall semester.

Characteristics of narcolepsy, a neurological condition, include excessive daytime sleepiness and memory lapses."

Maybe he's a great kid who couldn't really improve because of his health issues and now the sky is the limit.
