George Blaha has been doing play-by-play for Pistons games for over 30 years, so by default, I’m willing to dub him the best “best play-by-play man” the Pistons have ever had. But what about Greg Kelser? Is Special K the best color analyst the Pistons have ever had? At least one person thinks so.

Blaha is a lush. Drunk at every family get together. He is my friends wife’s uncle. He said he is such a douche to most people even in his family. Therefore I dub Special K the best play-by-play announcer.
Kelser is most helpful, Laimbeer was most entertaining. If they went with a three-man crew (to expensive for real life of course) Kelser could be the “Snapper” Jones to Laimbeer’s Bill Walton (except Laimbeer is not annoying like Walton).
But where does Kelly Tripucka fit in?
I love the Blaha/Kelser duo. I forget where I saw the chart of all the announcing crews and rated them in terms of knowledge and homer-ness. The idea was to be in the upper right corner and away from the lower left corner. Obviously Heinshon was in the lower left, and in the upper right were Marv Albert, Mark Jackson, Mike Breen. Kelser rated surprisingly well (right after those guys) since I assume our announcers get no love outside our region.
I do miss Laimbeer, though. What I miss most about him is the way he took such open joy in the failures of Boston, Indiana, Cleveland, and Chicago. He was the best for that.
Who was the one who screamed “BIG SHOT! BIG SHOT!” when Chauncey hit a critical three in Game 4 of the finals against the Lakers. Was that Mahorn? I heard it a couple times as a radio highlight and it has always stuck with me.
Ellis is out for three months, meaning GS will be without him until December. Not Pistons news, but still noteworthy…
Tripucka = generic brand Kelser
Fine on his own merrits, but Kelser has better chemistry with Blaha.
Kelly Tripucka is still busy making the doughnuts.
I miss Laimbeer for the Taco Bell scoreboard-’Indiana getting blown out again, they’re terrible.’
Blaha taking over FSN play-by-play duties when Fred ‘You’ve got to be kidding me’ McLeod left for Cleveland ranks as one of the happier days in my life.
The only team that can compare to Blaha/Kelser is the Clippers duo of Ralph Lawson and Michael Smith. They’re quite fair and balanced (kind of like Fox News, expect these guys are without using the slogan). I also like most of the 48 different combinations the Nets use.
The worst-Portland, Boston, Golden State, Denver with Orlando and Miami making a strong push to join the list.
