“Because he’s an All-Star!”

This is only tangentially Pistons-related (Zeke makes an appearance at the 7:35 mark), but after putting it on FanHouse, I had to post it here, too. Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis did a bang-up job during player introductions last year, but they didn’t even come close to this.

    That was soooooo fly.

  2. 2 Laughton

That should have been done to the Olympic opening ceremony

  3. 3 Mike Payne

They need to do that whole goddamn thing again this year, not a damn thing else. Bring back Kool Keith, that James Brown “Huh!” sample, the whole thing. “Cause he’s an ALL STAR” baby…

…that kind of thing makes me want to run downstairs and power up my studio.

  4. 4 Rob G

Laughton - we should write a version of this killer rap for Detroit:

Get on the mic and spit this science:

“Tayshaun - he’s long and lean / and when you take a shot he gets mean / he swats that shot to the other side of the gym / and if you try to dunk he says ‘I’ll meet you at the rim’ / cause he’s (gonna be, someday, maybe) an All-Star!”

  5. 5 Garrett

Man, Brad Daugherty was shaped like Tim Duncan. And Mark Price looks like a fetus.

    RIP. Kevin Duckworth.

    @Rob G:
He’s the king of the tech, the post, wrecks/effects. “The Ball Don’t Lie” for weak layup attempts. With blocks and three points, all records he’s wrecked, leaving all refs and david stern in contempt.

  8. 8 Sauce1977

LOL @ 1:33 - Brad Daugherty faking Corzine.

  9. 9 Laughton

Rob G - Im sorry, I have no ability whatsoever at music or rap. I could throw out this little ditty though…
Wake up Tay! Everybodys watching. Wake up Tay! You gotta block that shot. Wake up Tay! An alley-oop to Rip. Wake up Tay! Lets go and win that ship.

This video is AWESOME !! the best i’ ve seen in ages. Unmatched era !! They were incredible !! Lots of thanks to the fan who posted on youtube.

  11. 11 Shannon Caroland

The most jarring thing about that flashback was the number of neato white guys on the all-star team, and only on international player.

  12. 12 Rob G

Laughton - do not doubt your flow.

That’s some hot shit. 80stastic. Love it.

There’s also a good article on True Blue Pistons about 10 things to look forward to this season. Training camp is only one month away.

I think Duckworthy died a couple days ago.

Not to bring up politics again, but Detroit Dreshaj said that Obama is the only candidate to have knocked down a trey on TV. Apparently, Sarah Palin was a high school basketball star.

    Two-on-two, anyone?

  18. 18 Mike Payne

    Wait, girls play basketball?

  19. 19 Rob G

This election season is a dream come true for all of us who want to put some serious ballers into the White House. What do you want to bet either Obama or Palin would build an NBA-regulation court on the top of the House? Just like the one in NBA 2K5 in the Street section?

The West had 4 centers in the 1988 All Star game?! They can’t even find 2 worthy players now.

  22. 22 jerry

    highlights for me…
-”Alex English, another prominent All Star!”
-Patrick Ewing’s turtle neck thingie and huge late 80’s glasses
-Mark Eaton? Really? And they say there is a lack of quality centers in TODAY’S game.

  23. 23 Sauce1977

I don’t think Biden would win a game of hoops. McCain probably wouldn’t, either.

  24. 24 Garrett

McCain probably plays like one of the old guys at the Y, doing subtle things to cheat and get under your skin and in your head.

  25. 25 Boney

I’d like to play 1 on 1 with Ms. Palin..

  26. 26 PistonsGirl4Life

T-Minus 20 mins until Utah gets and ego-ectomy and MILLIONS of stupid people who listen to talking heads lose money betting against Mich in the big house.

    GO BLUE!

  27. 27 PistonsGirl4Life

Liking the fact that Michigan is ahead…

NOT liking the fact that our offense keeps losing yards and punting…

  28. 28 PistonsGirl4Life

My faith is being tested here isn’t it?

    GO BLUE!

  29. 29 PistonsGirl4Life

    Wow, talk about almost….

Is that what they meant by it would take Michigan time to learn the offense? Like what, 2.75 quarters?

I’ll try to be rational (yes I know, not normal for a Wolverines fan) and just hope we have it together for conference play….

Still, that fourth quarter HAS to make you wonder what might have been if we hadn’t let them run the score up to 25 in the first place…

    6/10. Pass.

  30. 30 Quick Darshan

I’ll limit my UM football comments to one:

“Still, that fourth quarter HAS to make you wonder what might have been if we hadn’t let them run the score up to 25 in the first place…”

You could look at it another way too. What might have been if Utah hadn’t started turning the ball over. The defense showed up in the second half. But, the offense is a good year away. That being said, having Terrelle Pryor’s mobility would have meant a victory here.

Looks like UM football won’t keep me from being on DBB eight times a day this fall.

  31. 31 Mike Payne

    Eight? you’re a light-weight, QD!!

/I kid. (that is, unless MW wonders why all 20 daily visits from Iowa are coming from my IP…)

MSU will carry the torch this year in college ball, we lost today but we could of won if there wasn’t so many bias officials.

  34. 34 PistonsGirl4Life

s/carry the tortch/might go .500 and will still lose to Mich by 24. Also will blow several 2nd half leads and lead the big 10 in turnovers and penalties.

    Fixed for accuracy.

  35. 35 PistonsGirl4Life

Hrmmm, I just woke up this morning and realized that for the second year in a row College Football season is over for me before Labor Day… basically all I have to look forward to is 7-5 tops and a mediocre bowl game sponsored by pantie hose or improperly prepared fried chicken. Maybe just maybe we’ll catch a team from a real conference slumming in said bowl game and pull out a 2 point last second victory over a thoroughly disinterested opponent who doesn’t even want to be there and probably just fired it’s coach.

In short, now I understand what it means to root for Sparty or like Perdue.

    *weeps*

  36. 36 LanierFan

Typical Michigan slappy, woofing after losing to Utah in Ann Arbor. It’s going to be sweet beating on the Wolverines this year, then hearing their fans bleat like slaughtered lambs.

  37. 37 Diablo

“s/carry the tortch/might go .500 and will still lose to Mich by 24. Also will blow several 2nd half leads and lead the big 10 in turnovers and penalties.

    Fixed for accuracy.”

Doubt it, we didn’t go .500 last year and every lost we had last year was by 7 points or less (can’t say the same for the “M”) and even our first lost came to a notable opponent by how many points? …7 again. State will represent Michigan in good fashion this year, we will take every game serious and we won’t stop playing until the final whistle is blown. And as far as getting beat by the “M” by 24 points….you guys barely beat us last year and the only game that was a complete blow out in the last 4-5 years was only two years ago. Our time is coming and after watching that “M” vs Utah game, it is over for you guys this year.

  38. 38 Colin

    PG4L,

As a Michigan Alum, I say to you - do not mourn this loss. It should be much less devastating that App state was this year. We should all be prepared for that 7-5 year. Rich Rodriquez’s teams always suck the first year. Plus, we don’t really have a legit QB. So I say, enjoy the uneven play and live for upsets. I just pray we do something rediculous like upset OSU. I had an OHIOAN staying at my apt. this weekend - what a bunch of assholes.

    Also, Diablo

Do yourself a favor and realize that even in a down year UM football is better than MSU and vice versa in basketball. We live rent free in your head. I don’t know about 24 point blowouts, but I’m confident that MSU will find a way to give us the game. I know that because I was at the Braylon game and I left early. ***Bad Fan*** I learned two things that day - that I will NEVER EVER LEAVE A GAME early again and that for MSU to beat UM requires divine intervention.

  39. 39 Colin

*****Than App State was last year…

  40. 40 Other Matt

    Michigan Alum here…

Utah is a good football team. Anybody who expected to win that game yesterday was in need of a serious reality check. We have like 9 new starters on offense, almost all of them have never played a meaningful down of college football ever. They were also recruited to play in a system diametrically opposed to what we tried to do yesterday.

Now I did not watch the game yesterday, I had a prior family obligation, but the 160 or so texts I got painted a pretty clear picture. It was about what I expected.

I’ve been telling anybody who will listen that it’s a 7-5 kind of year, which is perfectly fine. I’m actually excited to root for a mediocre team. I’m ready for a break from the “oh my God if we lose this game my life is over” mentality. I’m excited to watch a team grow up over the course of a season instead of frustrate the hell out of me.

I was talking to a good friend of mine who was devastated after yesterday’s game and I relayed these thoughts:

There’s going to be some definite growing pains. This is the kind of year where 7-5 is perfectly acceptable. This is the kind of year where we start the opener with a big play, flounder for 3 quarters, come alive and come up short. Then we’ll feast on some MAC snakycakes, then flounder at ND, then feast on some more MAC snakycakes. We’ll wander around for 4 games in a row going nowhere in particular. But then find ourselves valiantly battling the machine in Columbus knowing deep down that we’re going to come up short, but we hang it all out there for the whole world to see anyways. And we can all be proud and we can all look to next year.

  41. 41 Other Matt

Also, all of my friends had the same thing to say: it would have been MUCH worse had last year’s coaching staff been in charge for this game. We apparently made some good adjustments in the 2nd half and got back in the game. I’m dl-ing the torrent right now, but this is a basketball blog and nobody cares what I think about college football so I’m going to shut up now.

  42. 42 PistonsGirl4Life

You’re Blue Family and you don’t root for Sparty.

    I care yo.

Also Bill Laimbeer was awesome and I’m glad Chauncey didn’t get traded (for people who insist we keep this on topic).

  43. 43 Colin

f*ck the topic. Since when does Does DBB stay on topic? I totally agree with Other Matt, especially the part about not living in eternal fear of the ONE loss that will destroy your season.

  44. 44 Other Matt

No kidding about the not trading Chauncey thing. It’s like people think top-tier point guards grow on trees. I actually think it’s more beneficial in the long term to keep Chauncey on to tutor Stuckey along. Anybody who has eyes, understands basketball even a little bit, and watched the Eastern Playoffs knows that Stuckey has the chance to become a top-5 player.

    Back to Michigan Football…

Not to bang on Lloyd Carr because I completely appreciate him and loved the way he represented my University and clearly cared about it in the same way that I do. However, it’s pretty clear to me that he coached last season with a foot and a half out the door. We desperately needed a change if we were to stay a top-tier football program. I’m thankful that we got it.

I’m thrilled with Rich Rodriguez. He is definitely a top-level coach, one of the 5 best in my opinion (with Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, and Jim Tressel). The next couple of years are definitely going to be a struggle as he transforms Michigan’s program into what he wants it to be. I’m willing to have a couple of substandard seasons because I believe he can get us over that 9-3 hump that we’ve been unable to get over. Michigan fans can be ridiculously unreasonable, and I hope that people understand that it’s a “short term pain for long term gain” situation and give him the patience he deserves. Coach Carr did not leave us in a position to succeed, and this year would’ve been pretty bad even if he had stuck around. Coach Rodriguez deserves a full 3-4 years before people make any judgment about him and how successful he’s going to be at Michigan. I think there’s a better than 50% chance that he can take us to the level that USC and OSU are at right now, so he’ll get a full 4 years before I am critical of the direction of the program.

  45. 45 Other Matt

Wojo’s column from this morning is on point.

  46. 46 PistonsGirl4Life

    Stupid enter key… anyways:

    2) Do not lose to ND. Ever.

    3) Don’t make me turn the OSU game off before the two min warning. In either half.

These are REASONABLE expectations for a program like Michigan, even in a rebuilding year.

I’ll get over losing to Utah, but if you let Charlie Weiss talk about how f-ing smart he is after making our offense look inept all bets are off Richie….

  47. 47 PistonsGirl4Life

Hrrmm, the first half of that post went like this:

Look, relax, I’m not about to jump off the high fence because of a NON CONFERENCE LOSS vs someone who isn’t ND. I didn’t expect us to win the national championship in a rebuilding year and that’s the only kind of team that cards about week one non-conference losses…. Contenders. I might have been hoping that our superior talent would hold out vs Utah but I can’t say this was exactly suprising. My demands as a fan are pretty simple:

    1) Do not lose to Sparty, Perdue, Northwestern, Indiana or Minnesota. Ever.

    (Continued above).

  48. 48 Other Matt

PG4L, I wasn’t trying to label you as an over-reactor. I’ve been hanging around DBB for the past 3 years-ish, I know you’re more of a biting and sarcastic and intelligent poster.

However, I know there are idiot Michigan fans out there reading and I know there are idiot Sparty fans out there reading. I was thinking out loud and hoping to give the idiots something to chew on and maybe be a little less stupid. I’m also letting everyone know the depth of my obsession with Michigan Football by writing as many words in 4 posts as I have about the Pistons in the past 2 months. Wooooooooooo college football.

  49. 49 Mike Payne

Back to basketball. Our friend Dberri over at the Wages of Wins weighs in on Ben Gordon and Chicago. Statistically, he shows that for once, John Paxson did the right thing with Deng and Gordon (which nearly everyone here yet LitigiousChild agreed with).

Worth a read if you’re a stat-minded fellow (or lady):

  50. 50 Jehu

Did you check out Nique’s cut? I love the 80’s!

  51. 51 Diablo

“that for MSU to beat UM requires divine intervention.”

Or TJ Duckett recieving a game winning TD pass by Jeff Smoker in the dieing second of the game. O, that was great…anyways.

The “M” will lose this year to Sparty, believe it. Especially, if Rich Rodriguez keeps on forcing this team to play the style of football he ran at West Virginia. They looked sloppy and they looked unorganized out there, there is no reason they should of lost to Utah. For god’s sake, Utah had almost a non-existant deep passing game, if I was a “M” fan, I would be embarrassed.

That team needs some serious adjustment, fast.

  52. 52 Dominic

    Where’s Joe Dumars?

  53. 53 Quick Darshan

Diablo, you’re embarrassing yourself and your fellow MSU fans. Talking trash when your team is 0-1… Salivating over a potential victory over a team in a rebuilding year like it’s the Super Bowl…

It reeks of an inferiority complex. Maybe Mike Hart was on to something with this “little brother” stuff…

  54. 54 Other Matt

    QD,

The best way to get under a Sparty fan’s skin is to simply pretend they don’t exist. This prevents them from using the “arrogance” label, it it certainly doesn’t validate their existence which is their most basic and burning desire. So all the Wolverines should join me in completely and totally ignoring any Sparty fan when talking about the whole Michigan/Michigan State thing.

  55. 55 Diablo

“Diablo, you’re embarrassing yourself and your fellow MSU fans. Talking trash when your team is 0-1… Salivating over a potential victory over a team in a rebuilding year like it’s the Super Bowl…

It reeks of an inferiority complex. Maybe Mike Hart was on to something with this “little brother” stuff…”

And acting like I started it makes you look even dumber, when someone starts putting down my team it’s only right that I defend them. So me trash talking, was only ignited by inaccurate comments made by your fellow “arrogant” Wolverine buddies. And trying to hide it like the guy above me suggests is really not necessary because everyone knows your fan base/culture is built off of arrogance and which then sets up your insecurity…but Wolverine fans like to call it “Pride”. So when you lose to a small school or a school that isn’t powerhouse like Utah, like App. State, and like Oregon, your “Pride” gets threaten and the majority of your fans start looking to heavens thinking the world is going to end.
Why do you think the majority of the Nation likes to see you guys lose?

And as for Mike Hart, who the hell is Mike Hart? Isn’t he the guy that got drafted in the 6th round? O wait, just like the other guy that went to the Patroits, which by the way, has the same culture as Michigan… So now I’m guessing, you are hoping he will turn out just like him? Ha, not a chance in hell…

  56. 56 PistonsGirl4Life

    Dear Diablo….

This isn’t meant to disrespect you but I was reading your post on a blog about Michigan vs Sparty and I have to let you in on a little secret. Debating College Football is pretty much all about keeping your cool while casually dissing the opposition. This applies in particular to in-state rivalries. It’s invariably a sign of being a fan of the weaker team when you fly off the handle like that. If you need evidence of such a thing you should check out ANY one of the BILLIONS of College Football message boards on the planet. There’s a fine art to talking trash like your program matters. I understand you have almost NO experience with this, having the misfortune of rooting for Sparty you’re entire life but really guy when someone accuses you of having an inferiority complex in a college football debate you’re basically proving his point by crying out “BUT THEY STARTED IT”. Buck up little cowboy, maybe one day you’ll have enough experience with rooting for a highly competitive big time college football team. Say you’re from Michigan aren’t you? Did you know there IS such a team in your home state? They’re call the Wolverines.

Anyways good luck with that Sparty thing. I hear the GalleryFurniture.com Bowl is nice too.

    Your friend,

    WolverinesGirl4Life

  57. 57 PistonsGirl4Life

    Oh. My. Gosh.

The Lions signed an NFL running back. Rhudi Johnson. And he’s probably not even completely used up yet.

Trash talk aside, I’m beside myself. THIS IS AWESOME. Dear Cincy thanks for cutting the wrong RB.

  58. 58 Diablo

Dear Wolverine or Piston Girl… whatever name you liked to be called by and all Wolverine fans,

To be honest, I’m really not against the Maze and Blue. -shocker-

So losing my “cool” in this type of debate (or any debate in general) is not my style.

You thinking I lost my “cool” because I told the simple truth, only further proves my point of the level of arrogance you and the rest of Wolverine country share amongst each other. And to add, a little bit of ignorance as well.

See, as a kido growing up in the South Eastern part of Michigan, I had the luxury to choose between the two. Having half of my family alumns of Michigan (even my own mother) and the other half of my family alumns of MSU, I have had heavy doses of each culture.

Remember, I grew up in the South Eastern part of Michigan and have part of my family who are alumns of the “M”, so I know first hand how “Wolverine fan” acts on a daily basis. It was almost destiny for me to be a Wolverine, call me a “rebel”, call me a “traitor”, you can call me whatever.

BUT HEY! It sure beats the hell out of bending over back-wards, having my head turned to the side, and shoved up my rear end and acting like, my you know what, don’t stank. Well, then again, most of you Wolverine fans do enjoy living that life style but it’s just not for me and the rest of Sparty country.

    Your Spart-D Friend,

    The Diablo’s Advocate

  59. 59 Birdman

I hate to break it to you, but Rudi Johnson is done. I’m cutting him from my fantasy team; I only drafted him because he was a starter. He’ll be a backup, at least to begin with, in Detroit. So, he got himself cut from the Bengals and Team Oviraptor.

  60. 60 PistonsGirl4Life

Diablo - Way to miss the point. “You had me at hello”.

Birdman - Jeeze, cut from your FF team? Why a guy should just up and retire when he’s no longer useful to some fan’s FF squad. I mean jeeze, no NFL back has ever left Cincy after being called “done” by the Bengals and had a couple great seasons making a bad running attack respectable. Corey Dillon just retired like the Bengals said he should I suppose.

    Wait…

  61. 61 Quick Darshan

“I mean jeeze, no NFL back has ever left Cincy after being called “done” by the Bengals and had a couple great seasons making a bad running attack respectable. Corey Dillon just retired like the Bengals said he should I suppose.”

Yes, but Matt Millen picking him up is no endorsement. My guess is that he’s gotten he doesn’t have much left in the tank after being worked to death in Cinci. That being said, he’s probably better than Tinker Bell.

  62. 62 Boney

I didn’t even realize that MSU still had a football team.

Is that who Drew Neitzel played for?

/knows UM will stomp MSU this year

  63. 63 Diablo

PG4L - if there was any point to be missed it was from your side of the arguement. If you missed anything, it’s because your arrogance has once again got the best of you.

  64. 64 Craig

Basketball. Not football. Basketball. I like hearing you M fans cry about football probably as much as I like hearing lawyer boy talking about IU. Also, please root for the school you went to, not the one with the most wins.

  65. 65 Craig

As for hoops, has anyone heard what GS is claiming Ellis did when he hurt himself? Also, Marshall signing with philly sounds like a good pickup. If he has any gas left in the tank, he should be hurting people from the 3 with brand in the middle.

  66. 66 Birdman

I would argue that Dillon and Rudi have very different situations. Dillon was cut in large part because he expressed a negative (but accurate) view of the Bengals’ management. Rudi was cut because he wasn’t that good anymore. He averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2006 and 2.9 (!) ypc in 2007. Dillon, in the two years before joining the Patriots, averaged 4.2 and 3.9 ypc. Obviously a player’s presence or lack thereof on one person’s fantasy football team is not a good indicator of ability. I just used that as an example of how I perceive his value. Perhaps looking at Johnson’s more recent efforts (rather than what he did three years ago) would dampen enthusiasm for a Matt Millen signing.

  67. 67 Birdman

Also, hoopsaddict.com has the finals of the Floor Burn tournament. Max is just destroying Shane Battier.

  68. 68 PistonsGirl4Life

“PG4L - if there was any point to be missed it was from your side of the arguement. If you missed anything, it’s because your arrogance has once again got the best of you. ”

You just keep digging deeper. It’s so sad that I’d probably disown you if I was an MSU fan myself. Right now you’re at Ivy League Level inferiority complex. I’d quit while I was ahead.

Birdman… you make two excellent points. 2.7 TPC is terrible and Matt Millen is terrible. I’m still holding out hope though because I can’t agree with your point about Cincy cutting Rudi because he wasn’t any good. They cut him because he cost a lot more than Perry/Watson combined AND he kept getting hurt. Frankly the last couple years I’m not really sure ANYONE would have done well as a focal point in Cincy’s backfeild (though yes, Watson was decent in spot usage last year). That having been said you can’t deny the following absolutely true fact:

Even if Rudi Johnson rips his knee stepping off the team bus 20 seconds before the first game… he’s STILL better than Tatum “Jeeze I can’t believe we got Detroit to give us Bly for this guy and a tackle we were about to cut” Bell. Yes, with one leg I’m convinced Rudi brings more to the team than Tatum.

Still I’m forced to agree with your sobering analysis that there’s no reason to expect 10 and 10 from Johnson…. and I’m going to ignore it and expect 10 and 10 anyways. He’ll be the starter by week 2, bank it.

Craig - I grew up poor as all get out and would not have been able to afford to attend EITHER school. Also feel free to ignore anything I say about anything anyways though yes like everyone ELSE on here I have family that went to M, not state.

Don’t however, feel free to tell me not to talk about football. Not only are you not a moderator here, but even if you were THERE IS NO BASKETBALL TO TALK ABOUT MORON.

If there were NBA games happening RIGHT NOW? I’d agree with your point. There aren’t so shove it. Thanks.

  69. 69 PistonsGirl4Life

I think I didn’t really mean the Moron part. I just got caught in the flow. Still the point stands “there are no games now”. Moron was excessive though, my bad.

  70. 70 PistonsGirl4Life

Also to answer your question about Ellis, most of the websites I’ve read seem to imply Golden State thinks he was playing in some sort of pickup Basketball game at the time he got injured and then LIED to them about how it happened after.

Not that anyone has said that officially but that’s the story I read on ESPN and a couple smaller sites anyways.

  71. 71 Shinons

PG4L - Between the Lions and Wolverines, I’ve got to say I’m feeling sorry for you this football season. And that’s coming from an IU alumn and ND fan since childhood…

  72. 72 Craig

PG4L, you mentioned something about “keeping your cool while dissing the opposition”. Just saying. Thanks for the retraction, though. As for moderating, just coming here for hoops, not football. If I wanted that, I could go to freep and read all the comments. Also read the snippets about Ellis lying, but still haven’t heard weather or not GS actually had anything on him. Shame, though, Monta is a baller, and was looking forward to how he would handle being the franchise.

  73. 73 PistonsGirl4Life

Craig, fair but being honest thats College Football. I LITERALLY mean its an unspoken rule of college football homerism to completely dismiss your opposition in a casual “what me worry?” kinda way. Seriously check any CFB message board anyplace and it’s ALWAYS the dude freaking out people make fun of. This ONLY applies to college football, the REST of the Internets is still “U R STUPID” “NO IS NOT YOU IS”…

Still I didn’t mean moron. Like I said, got caught up in the moment. Still I don’t like being told what to talk about. Like ANYONE else alive I read LOTS of things on the internets I wish I hadn’t (Including but not limited to anything said by Sparty or his/her fans)… but really I don’t have the right tell people they shouldn’t have written it… so I don’t bother.

Again, you’re point would be valid in October. It’s however September so really we don’t have much else to talk about aside from Football.

I mean even “Monta Ellis hurt his ankle” is hardly “Detroit Bad Boys” news, since its about a team/player we will play twice all year and then never again because they won’t make the playoffs.

Either way I wasn’t as mad as I sounded, hence the retraction. Plus I use the word “Moron” too much IRL without meaning to ACTUALLY offend anyone… yet it does. So I figured as part of my “trying not to call people Morons” campaign, I should retract… and did.

You ARE still however wrong for telling me what to talk about rather than just ignoring my post. Jussayin.

Shinnons… as a life-long Lions fan I must admitt I’m not too proud to accept your pity.

Long season indeed. I mean 7-5 for ONE year seems REALLY harsh, I have no idea how I’d handle it if 7-5 was considered a GOOD year or say Something To STRIVE FOR (see Sparty).

As for the Lions, well… yeah… I *heart* Megatron and I’m going to enjoy watching him tear up every secondary we play in terrible shootouts we ALWAYS lose by 2 touchdowns. *weeps*

  75. 75 Quick Darshan

Diablo, I will fully agree that myself and other UMers exhibit arrogance towards MSU (although I think we’re self-depracating in every case beside that and are fully aware that the program is not at the level of the USCs and Ohio States of the world).

I DISAGREE, however, that my calling your comments a sign of an inferiority complex is an example of said arrogance.

For example… To flip it around. If I ever heard a Michigan basketball fan say something like, “MSU hasn’t blown us out in five years” or “That game three years ago that we won was sweet,” I would kick that fan in the balls.

When the team you root for loses, you just have to grin and bear it. I pretty much have nothing to say to uSC and Ohio State fans and (to bring it back around to DBB) as Pistons fans we have nothing to say to Boston, San Antonio and Cleveland.

That’s why I don’t join in on the “Ha! Ha! Kendrick Perkins sucks and can’t form two sentences” posts. He destroyed the big men on the team I root for and I have to grin and bear it.

  76. 76 Other Matt

    DON’T feed the Sparties.

  77. 77 Quick Darshan

Oh, and I have no idea what to expect from the Lions this year but I will say this…

Calvin Johnson is THE BEST WR in the NFL. And the second best player to ever put on the Honolulu Blue.

  78. 78 Diablo

“You just keep digging deeper. It’s so sad that I’d probably disown you if I was an MSU fan myself. Right now you’re at Ivy League Level inferiority complex. I’d quit while I was ahead.”

Digging Deeper? All I’m doing is pointing out the obvious…

I honestly think you have no idea what we were conversating about…sad.

“For example… To flip it around. If I ever heard a Michigan basketball fan say something like, “MSU hasn’t blown us out in five years” or “That game three years ago that we won was sweet,” I would kick that fan in the balls.”

If you are talking about the TJ Duckett reference I made, it was only joke and kind of, my way of being sarcastic.

  79. 79 Colin

    Diablo -

Let me say that I’m sorry if myself and/or others were a little harsh. We’re all Pistons fans first here and all this other stuff is just a diversion due to the fact that there is like no NBA news right now.

That being said, I think QD about nailed it on the head when he brought up MSU basketball.

Finally, my slightly over the top comment to “divine intervention” was a veiled reference to Smoker to Duckett pass and the sloooowwwwesssst second ever. It was a controversial play and I was trying to make a joke about it.

  80. 80 Garrett

Hey, how about that Team USA winning gold, eh? Eh?

    *crickets chirp*

  81. 81 Quick Darshan

I love Garrett’s way of announcing that we’re off topic.

“I like slam dunk shots” is my personal favourite.

  82. 82 Big Mike

    Go Buckeyes

  83. 83 PistonsGirl4Life

/me looks sideways at Big Mike.

Oh you did not just do that.

In a related story I just watched a Kevin Mchale mix linked on Basketbawful and I have to admitt… Mchale was f’ing amazing. Even if he is the ugliest man to ever star in a professional sport and yes I’m counting Ric Smitts (sp?).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlSZC4TAYVc

    Seriously stunning.

  84. 84 Other Matt

Big Mike and I are not okay even when we’re talking Pistons. From this point forward you are 1,000% wrong about everything.

  85. 85 Mike Payne

You just love that music, PG4L. Admit it!

  86. 86 PistonsGirl4Life

Actually I’m trying to Limewire the first song as we speak. It’s called “No Mercy” and it’s by someone or something named Nils Lofgren. NFL.

Which is weird, because as far as I know I’m the only person alive who mixes a love of old school rap with Dylanesque folk musics….

something in the rymes I guess…

  87. 87 Garrett

QD: Ha! And I didn’t think anyone noticed.

  88. 88 PistonsGirl4Life

Hrmm apparently the GOOD mix video doesn’t have the good song. The other mix used a live recording of said song… unfortunately the version I CAN find online is the regular one which is REALLY 80’s… otoh… this is very “Hurricane” which in an of itself is amazing:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldt7Kq3nGX4&feature=related

I don’t think THIS version is on an album anywhere… if anyone knows of how I could get it, or even record the file as an MP3 off this YouTube track let me know. I don’t mind buying an album to get it, this version of the song is that good. BUT JUST this version, with the dude wigging out on the accoustic guitar and beating his own drum pattern on the body of it…. Like I said, the recorded FULL band version is really ummm… 80’s and sad… The version in that link is like… amazing.

4Really if anyone knows if that was on an album someplace. Apparently the recording was at a live benefit for some school so I’m not holding out much hope. It’s too bad, it’s just an AMAZING track.

  89. 89 Mike Payne

    @PG4L:
I looked up your boy Nils Lofgren. I never knew Steve Nash played guitar.

  90. 90 Mike Payne

also, i figured i should share this. ever heard a modern day brit-cum-german make motown-inspired soul music that shakes your shit? check this guy out (listen, don’t watch the video, or else you’ll think he played ball for duke):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFtnHTW-l-w

What’s remarkable about dude? He used to make nothing but techno, now he does soul, playing every instrument on his own from the ground up.

If anyone likes, I got plenty more.

  91. 91 Birdman

I love that Calvin Johnson has a great nickname. There is a serious lack of quality nicknames in sports today. But no, he is not the best WR today. He’s also not the second best player to lace up for the Lions, either.

  92. 92 Quick Darshan

    Just wait, Birdman, just wait…

  93. 93 Skylar

Yeah I was gonna say, I’m looking forward to Megatron’s future seasons with the lions like I look forward to Stuckey Mack’s future seasons as a Piston. I’m really excited about both those cats.
