From A. Sherrod Blakely:
Although it was a slightly strained right ankle that sidelined Chauncey Billups for most of the second half of Saturday’s 111-99 win at Milwaukee, the 6-foot-3 point guard also was bothered by a sore right elbow.
“It was killing me when I woke up (Saturday) morning,” Billups said. He is questionable for Tuesday’s game against San Antonio.
Update: ASB has the update following today’s practice — Billups is out for tomorrow’s game in Grand Rapids:
He spent the bulk of Monday’s practice working on the sidelines with Arnie Kander, the team’s strength and conditioning coach.
“I don’t think it’s bad,” Curry said. “Just sit him out for a few days. I think he’ll be pretty good.”
Curry added, “With Chauncey out, it would be (Rodney) Stuckey, (Will) Bynum, and Alex (Acker) would be the third guard.”
It’s bad timing for all the fans on the west side of the state hoping to see Chauncey play, but the silver lining is that Stuckey will get that much more time running the show. Curry sees the benefit in this, as well:
“I want to play Stuckey more minutes in the preseason,” Curry said. “He hasn’t played those minutes. You’ve got to train your body to play 25 minutes a night in the NBA. Until he plays consistently at that pace, he’s got to learn what he needs to do to make sure his body is ready night in and night out and that’s a good testing time for him right now.”

not happy to hear that at all…
Why not? It doesn’t really matter and in fact helps us. Stuckey and other guards will see more minutes. Billups will be back soon enough. Just as long as we don’t have him hurt for the playoffs.
I actually think one of the things that hurt the Pistons in the past was that they were so healthy. Our bench never got to step up and gain valuable experience. And we all knew our bench never stepped up come playoff time. From the sounds of it this year, regardless of injuries, the bench will have to step up because of Curry.
Big deal its only pre season, more minutes for Stuckey at the Point.
Billups will be ready to go for the regular season.
i much rather have billups healthy, and training with them… learning the new sets, and yea just being healthy… we saw him hurt last year, last thing we want are nagging injuries… id never wish injuries on anyone, even if it means more minutes for one of my fave bench players
Ehh…more minutes for Stuckey. I’m sure it isn’t anything serious he will be back well before the pre=season ends.
Hes not dying or anything, he’ll be fine,
Looks like Maxiell is going to opt for free agency.
From motownsports.com
Its looking more and more like Maxiell will be history after this coming season
Quote:
The Pistons remain hopeful to have a contract extension worked out with Jason Maxiell before training camp ends. Detroit has offered the 6-foot-7 forward a three-year, $15 million deal with a team option for a fourth season.
Maxiell is one of a handful of players from the 2005 draft class to be offered a contract extension.
“It’s not really important right now,” Maxiell said. “I’m just going day by day and see how it goes.”
If the two sides do not reach an agreement, he will become a restricted free agent next summer.
1. I think Maxiell is really ticked that Amir got the starting PF job ahead of him
2. I doubt seriously that he will sign the extension by the end of this month, which is the deadline, because “it’s not really important right now”
3. I think he will opt for free agency as a RFA
4. I doubt Joe D. will match any offer Maxiell may get because
A. Joe D. has made Maxiell a more than fair offer here
B. Maxiell by not signing the extension will say that starting and money are more important to me than the team.
C. Joe D. has shown in the past that he doesn’t match other teams offers on Pistons free agents.
Personally, I really would like to see Maxiell sign the extension but at this point I would be very pleasantly surprised if he did.
http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.s…his_point.html
If the most Carl Landry can command as an RFA is $9 mil over 3 years and Ronny Turiaf $17 mil over 4 years, Max is going to have a hard time finding anything better than Joe’s offer. If he chooses not to sign, he may find himself accepting less this time next year.
Mike, I’m sure that you sat down and had a long talk with both Maxiell and Joe D in order to gain their insights on to the situation.
Come on dude, really? You’re hypothesizing that Maxiell is going to hit free agency and Joe D isn’t going to match any offers for him because both of their feelings are hurt? TRUST ME, Joe D will do what’s right for the franchise. Please spare us all the inane psycho-babble.
With our front court crowded, I think Max is trade bait. I also Max and Dyse are redundant players, and we’re keeping Dyse until he retires (most likely).
Well, that was just gibberish. I think no contract for max and sheed’s expiring contract, we’ll be in a good place to make moves at the deadline.
maxiell said befoire it doesnt matter right now because he expects to stay with the pistons, whether it’s through an extension now or re-signing next year.. he said that like a week ago… of course anything could happen, but sounds like just like billups when he was a free agent… he wants to stay, and im sure they’ll find a way to keep him here if he wants to stay

Of course I am hypothezing.
Why not?
It removes the free radicals in one’s system. LOL
Go for it yourself

Link please since you are saying it said something specific.
I never saw or heard him say this.
My hypothosizing says that if he doesn’t sign by Oct 31st he is gone after this year because of the reasons that I stated earlier.
That is my opinion
I remember reading that about Max, saying he would be back with the team one way or another. Cant for the life of me remember where though.
Look, I don’t want to get into it, but I’m pretty sure that your hypothesis was that Max would walk because his feelings were hurt and Joe D wouldn’t match any offer sheet because his feelings were hurt. That is crazy. You don’t become one of the most successful GMs of any sport without being able to separate feelings from the equation and do the right thing.
Basically, you’re saying that Joe D is going to do the exact opposite of what a rational person would expect. I mean, it’s not like there isn’t 8 years worth of evidence against your theory.
I appreciate your opinion, but you aren’t contributing to the otherwise intelligent and reasoned (hah!) debate when you come here and parrot an idea which has exactly zero pieces of supporting evidence. Just think and do a little research next time, please.
Trade Billups! Blow up the team! Too many turnovers! OMG OMG OMG!
RFA’s are incredibly hard to negotiate with. Hadn’t you noticed that this summer? Heck, just ask Josh Childress or Ben Gordon how many offers they had to beat off because of their restricted status. Joe D isn’t going to let a young, relatively inexpensive player go for nothing.
well isn’t part of curry’s instructions that the team should play every game like it’s the playoffs? how can they do that if chauncey’s not hurt? this will be an excellent opportunity to see what things will be like come the ECF’s.
“well isn’t part of curry’s instructions that the team should play every game like it’s the playoffs? how can they do that if chauncey’s not hurt?”
I see what you did there.
I was wondering if I could cross-up somebody’s eyes into thinking this was a double post…
The only way Max leaves after the season is if he earns it. If he goes out and has a giant baby-eating monster of a season then he might get a RFA offer that is waaay more than what JoeD has planned for in the budget (e.g. Okur). In that case, Max would have earned his money and it puts the Pistons in the tough decision of keeping him and changing their plans for the future OR letting him go for nothing. (I know it would be possible to sign and trade him in the summer but the league rules for trading RFA’s make it tough… something about Base Player Salary??? I’m sure one of you knows the proper term.)

I would agree with their sentiment in this article. Come one Maxey, sign the damn contract man.
=======================================
Maxiell Extension on the Horizon?
Jason Maxiell is one of the very underrated players in today’s game. According to numerous reports, the Detroit Pistons have offered the 25-year-old forward a three-year deal believed to be worth around $15 million with a possible team option for a fourth season.
If Maxiell agrees, this could be a great signing for the Pistons. Maxiell has improved every season he’s been in the league and is poised to have a breakout campaign. Should he do that, he could likely command more than the $5 million annual salary the Pistons are offering.
If he is not re-signed before the start of this season, he would become a restricted free agent next summer. For Maxiell’s camp, it’s a question of whether to take the guaranteed money now or wait and see if he can command more on the market next summer. Given the current state of the economy it might be smart to take the cash, but agents often advise against this kind of thing filling up the heads of players with delusions of grandeur.
Negotiations on an extension are expected to continue throughout the preseason.
Here is the quote referenced to from a couple weeks ago on Maxiell staying regardless:
“We’re just talking; there’s nothing going on there yet,” Maxiell told the Detroit News. “I am not going to focus on that now. Either way, I am coming back, so I just have to get ready for this training camp.”

I really don’t see any scenario where Maxiell is looking at an offer of more than $5 mil a year next off-season. Maybe a team like Memphis would roll the dice and offer more than the Pistons would be willing to match, but I don’t think many teams would look at spending more than the MLE on him - in which case we would match.
Maxiell (or, more precisely, his agent) might be trying to exploit Dumars’ sense of fairness. $15M will be on the table next offseason, so why not wait and see if it improves?
OMFG! Trade HB!
Anyone else listening to the game tonight?
watching the game…
despite his mistakes amir looks amazing
I am so happy that flip is gone. Im liking curry a lot so far. Although I must admit im mostly thrilled amir is starting.
Yeah, the full court defense is unreal right now. That was an amazing run to heal a bad start.
nice recovery will
popovich looks like his preparing for castaway 2
he is
Kwame with the jump hook! .. hands didn’t look to slippery on that play..
“Maxiell (or, more precisely, his agent) might be trying to exploit Dumars’ sense of fairness.”
Wow…thats the silliest thing I ever heard.
will bynum is having a solid fourth….
Yo, I just got back from Happy Hour (at 9:00, I know, it was fun). Somebody mind giving me the executive summary of what’s happened so far tonight?
Thanks!
I’m tivoing, but so far it looks like the Pistons are playing a preseason game and the Spurs are playing a Lions preseason game (They think it counts.)
Kwame actually looks really good, as well as Amir. We have just an army of big men to throw at people this year.
It wasn’t the prettiest game to watch, but it was nice to see some Pistons bball. Besides Bynum playing a quality 4th quarter, the only thing that really stood out to me after the game was Walter Sharpe. The kid is very athletic and has some real talent offensively. Plus he has a ton of room for growth considering his lack of playing time and lack of stable situation over the last 4 years. I’m excited to see the player he’ll become in the next 2 to 3 years.
OT but die red sox die
Yikes for stuckey and rasheed, did they look as bad as their lines? Rasheed must have thought it was a closeout game in the ecfs (oh no he didn’t!)
That was a harsh butt-kicking, luckily we are still in the pre-season and we can adjust in the coming weeks.
The Pistons loses by 86-64? Are you kidding me?
NOW CAN WE PANIC? anyone?
And they lost without Chauncey “Black Hole” Billups, HB. Even without his awful play wrecking everything, we went down hard. Trade the whole team! Bring in Millen!
Millen? Are you nuts?!?
He moves way to slow. Bring in Isiah!
too*
@HB:
Scroll up.

(note the time was 2:00 minutes into the first quarter)
Clearly it’s not time to panic unless the Spurs were only playing like one of their big 3.
Wait Parker and Manu didn’t play? I’m bailin baby, eject eject eject!
Okay, I clearly need my sarcasm meter to be checked, or re-calibrated, or fixed, or something. It’s crazy around here…
Haha Other Matt, I think there actually is one person who isn’t joking…but I’m still not sure
Is it too late to trademark Fire Curry t shirts?
He’s on a roll.
HB is the new Phil Saunders of DBB. If he’s playing with us, I’ll be the first to rise for his standing ovation. If by chance he’s serious, I poop in his general direction. Like I said earlier, “OMFG! Trade HB!”
I kind of think that HB is putting on a magnificent performance. I mean, nobody can be dumb enough to (a) find DBB, (b) read and comprehend DBB, (c) read and comprehend the comments at DBB, and then make the jump to (d) proclaim the sky is falling at every turn. Doesn’t the fact that (a) through (c) happened disqualify (d) from happening? Unless of course HB is really our old friend Brad back with a new handle. In which case I will light myself on fire…
HB, help me out here. Are you a genius or do I hate you?
“@Other Matt - I will light myself on fire”
Please let me help you.
