Pistons host Knicks on Thanksgiving Eve

The Knicks are in town, and with a 7-7 record, they’re not the same team everyone laughed at last year. Hell, after trading Jamal Crawford and Zach Randolph, they’re not the same team they were last week. You know all those chemistry problems the Pistons have had trying to adjust post-Chauncey? Expect to see a lot of that from the visitors as Mike D’Antoni tries to integrate Tim Thomas and Al Harrington on the fly.

To make matters worse, the Knicks should be extremely short-handed — Cuttino Mobley (heart), Nate Robinson (groin) and Stephon Marbury (sanity) are all sidelined, meaning the only healthy guards the Knicks have available are Anthony Roberson and Chris Duhon. With the Pistons riding a two-game losing streak, this game should taste better than tomorrow’s turkey.

The ball tips at 8 PM on FSN Plus (that’s 901 on Comcast — see here for other cable providers). As usual, leave your thoughts in the comments.

    “Stephon Marbury (sanity)” - Nice

  2. 2 Other Matt

I laughed out loud at that, too.

  3. 3 Keegan

So David Lee isn’t a favorable matchup for Amir? NOBODY has more blocked attempts than David Lee. And I like David Lee, heavy-duty rebounder that he is. Yet, seriously, no one in this league gets blocked more than David Lee.

    No biggie, but…wtf?

  4. 4 Paul M

Keegan: No one other than Stuckey. :)

  5. 5 Primosh

    Good point.

Any good links? The one at justin.tv is really bad tonight…

  6. 6 O-town General

    No Amir?

  7. 7 Keegan

The Knicks are gonna all sorts of problems tonight, if we just abuse them down low, which appears to be our game plan.

Kwame v. Knicks = night of magic.

  8. 8 Garrett

I didn’t even see the Justin.tv one but I might be blind. Still trying to find links myself.

  9. 9 Lucas

Thank you for the channel 901 alert. I worked out early so that I could go grocery shopping early so that I could get home in time to watch the game.

I get home, after learning again why I hate Meijer, and HOCKEY is on? Recently moved up here from TX, and hockey gets about as much play on tv in TX as speed cup stacking. I was pretty pissed before I came here to vent. The 901 alert hit the spot like a fine glass of Canadian Club.

  10. 10 Dafa

This link is working for the game.

    http://www.tnt.tv/sports/nba/overtime09_live/

Go Stones. We need this win.

  11. 11 Primosh

only found this one i’m afraid

    http://www.justin.tv/ngrant13602

  12. 12 Other Matt

Lucas, Meijer is freaking awesome compared to any of the horrendous options that exist on the East Coast. If I have to go to ShopRite one more time, I might kill somebody.

Put me on the list of people asking for a link. I’d use the League Pass Broadband, but Comcast f-ed up my ability to get it and I have to fax my bill in to the NBA office. I’m so done with them. As soon as I go High Def, I’m switching to something, anything else.

  13. 13 Garrett

Thanks Primosh! It’s better than nothing. You know you’re hardcore when you’re watching a stream of a video of someone’s TV.

  14. 14 Garrett

Good thing Boney’s not here to see that Amir play. He had the ball 1 inch from the rim, got stripped, missed a wimpy shot attempt, got it back, then put it again again. He should have crushed it.

  15. 15 Keegan

Garrett: He’s just beefing up those offensive rebounding statistics, that’s all. It’s a little game he plays.

  16. 16 Boney

    Garrett,

I would’ve watched the game, but I’m not interested in watching a webcam show live from someone’s basement

  17. 17 Lucas

Other Matt, I miss H-E-B Plus, not sure if anyone on the board would know what that is. But honestly I’d be ecstatic with a super-warlmart at this point. The Meijer near me (Ann Arbor, though the store may be in Ypsilanti) smells like throw up. 3 times I’ve been there and 3 times ive hit spots that were definitely puke. And the prices are nothing great either. I’m just sticking with a combo of Sam’s Club and Busch’s for now.

And why wont Amir grab the rim?

  18. 18 Garrett

Amir’s getting some dirty stick-backs and offensive boards, so this looks like a game where he might be able to do well.

  19. 19 Keegan

Lucas: He doesn’t like to show off. Not his style.

  20. 20 Other Matt

I honestly don’t watch the Knicks much, doe Wilson Chandler light everybody up the way he seems to light us up?

  21. 21 Lucas

Well I guess I’ll take his humbleness since we already have Sheed.

  22. 22 Other Matt

Lucas, if I recall correctly, you’re going to grad school at U-M. I graduated recently, there’s a Kroger up past North Campus that’s really good. The Meijer you’re going to sucks ass. The Kroger I’m talking about has a good deli and usually has fresh produce, it’s on Plymouth Rd.

  23. 23 Other Matt

Gus Johnson, “the Knicks getting out-hustled now.”

I think I just passed out. Is it 2004?

  24. 24 Dafa

Yo this stream is pretty good.Go stones.

    http://www.tnt.tv/sports/nba/overtime09_live/

  25. 25 Keegan

    THERE YOU GO BONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FTW!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 26 Other Matt

    Zoo… Crew… ?

  27. 27 Lucas

He dunks that, but shoots the normal dunks. LOL go Amir go!

And good memory Other Matt. I actually live right by Plymouth rd. Is it the one near Blockbuster, GNC, Zoup, etc.? If so I’ll have to try it next.

  28. 28 Lucas

Anybody looked at the contracts and/or have any idea which Knicks are likely to stay and join Lebron (assuming he bolts)?

  29. 29 Keegan

You can’t stop Amir…you can only hope to contain him.

  30. 30 Greg

I just turned it on and Amir made me smile.

  31. 31 Garrett

Amir with the crazy blocks! Who is this “Amir Johnson” fellow and when did he join the team?

  32. 32 Other Matt

Welcome back, Amir! Where have you been?

  33. 33 Primosh

The Celtics just got 39 points in the 2nd quarter against the Warriors. muahaha

  34. 34 Lucas

Anybody else reminded of Tayshaun blocking Reggie?

  35. 35 Boney

    figures…

guy broadcasting from his mother’s basement on the one night that sounds like Amir is dominating

  36. 36 Other Matt

    Lucas, that’s the one.

  37. 37 Garrett

Man, if our other games were Mr. Hyde this is seriously some Dr. Jeckyll action. We’re on fire, and everything is looking easy for a change.

(also I should add: New York kind of sucks)

  38. 38 Lucas

    Cool, thanks

  39. 39 Lucas

So if we traded for Chris Paul, we’d get free Arby’s for 1/4 of the year?

  40. 40 Garrett

OT: But how come LeBron’s REDICULOUS post-game quotes the other day aren’t getting much press?

  41. 41 Boney

I love the white headbands… they wore those when?

    oh yeah, 2004

  42. 42 Garrett

Wilson Chandler is looking poised to snatch that Cup of mediocrity. And Sheed on the block is so tough to stop. Even the NY announcers are like, “HE’S AUTOMATIC!!! Why does he step out to 3??? WHY?!?!”

  43. 43 Boney

    what LeBron postgame quotes?

  44. 44 Primosh

I just have to say this. FPCB is shooting 13 for 14 against the Bobcats.

  45. 45 Garrett

He told the NY press they should go to sleep until July 1, 2010 (or when ever it is that he can declare free agency) because that day will be HUGE. *wink wink, nod nod* And he also had a special NY edition of his shoe released, and the copy said something like, “NY is LeBron’s favourite city! Blah blah blah…”

  46. 46 Lucas

    Seriously?? (Garrett)

  47. 47 Garrett

Yeah. It was on one of my sports channels today, and they were laughing because it was so dumb. Total slap in the face to the city of Cleveland.

  48. 48 Lucas

If I was still a Cavs fan (sickening that I was way back in the day - <3 Mark Price), Id want to trade him now.

  49. 49 Garrett

I’d love to have David Lee on our squad. The guy flat-out hustles.

  50. 50 Lucas

Apparently Chris Sheridan agrees with my first thought (trade him) - http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-36-98/No-Longer-Cute–LeBron-James–Flirtation-with-New-York.html

  51. 51 joejoejoe

I can’t see the game so I’m following the box score on ESPN. What kind of looks is Rip getting? Six-for-nine is great. Maybe a day or so of practice helped sync him up with AI.

  52. 52 Lucas

    Ahhh, or Henry Abbot*

  53. 53 Garrett

Brutal, huh? I tried finding stuff on it earlier but couldn’t. Thanks for the link.

  54. 54 Lucas

No problem, ESPN has it somewhere on their front page. Sometimes I forget that Lebron is so young and skipped ncaa ball. That press conference was handled so poorly… huge reminder.

JoeJoeJoe, I dont know how many of Rips points have come with any help from AI. Rip has been shooting pretty quick into the shot clock and hes just been on. (and the d kind of sucks)

  55. 55 joejoejoe

OT: Bill Simmons took another dozen shots at the Pistons today in his column. That guy is a tool when it comes to Detroit.

  56. 56 Primosh

    http://www.justin.tv/newyorkmen

    should serve us better

  57. 57 Garrett

Thanks Primosh! That’s much better, and I don’t have to worry about that dude’s mom hassling him in the background about the TV being too loud.

  58. 58 Lucas

Primosh, I was just a little weary of you earlier and shrugged it off - but I think you said it wrong.

    ————
The Celtics had 39 points put on them in the 2nd quarter by the Warriors. (much better)

  59. 59 Primosh

    lol, no problem.

  60. 60 blo
  61. 61 Primosh

    @ Lucas…oh yeah..that’s what i meant :D It probably came out wrong.

  62. 62 Garrett

I’m glad Al Harrington’s back spasms have finally cleared up so he can play again!

    /sarcasm

  63. 63 Paul M

I know these are the Knicks, but I’m liking how the team is clicking in all facets right now. The offense is fluid, and the defense is faring well so far (which isn’t insignificant, since the D’Antoni Knicks are decent offensively).

  64. 64 Garrett

    Kwame Brown is MASSIVE.

  65. 65 Paul M

Man, Harrington sucks. I can’t believe Golden State wanted to make him a centerpiece for a trade with us.

  66. 66 Garrett

Great steal and finish by AI. Even if he’s gone after this year I’m going to enjoy every minute of his time here.

  67. 67 Lucas

    Thats what she said

  68. 68 Garrett

    Zing!

  69. 69 Lucas

Harrington looks like a clown in those socks. After seeing Keith van Horn sport them, how could anyone do it?

  70. 70 Paul M

I believe that’s enough Kwame for now.

  71. 71 Garrett

I’d like to see Amir back in the game. He was super active.

  72. 72 Garrett

    A FLAGRANT on Amir?!? WTF.

  73. 73 Lucas

    Thats a bitch call

  74. 74 Greg

lol. I’m not sure if you can possibly get less respect from the refs than that. Wow.

  75. 75 joejoejoe

If Amir got the kind of calls David Lee gets he’d average 20/15 with 12 blocks a game. Sheesh.

  76. 76 Garrett

That looked like a good hard basketball play to me with no ill intent whatsoever. Weird.

  77. 77 Lucas

    THAT BALL DONT LIE!!!!!

except for on the 2nd free throw

  78. 78 Boney

    BALL DONT LIE

    THAT BALL DONT LIE

  79. 79 Lucas

    It lies on threes too.

I think it got all out of whack when it landed in the nachos.

  80. 80 joejoejoe

    Amir > Tim Thomas

  81. 81 Lucas

    lock up your babies

  82. 82 Garrett

Maxiell just got an offensive board and went straight up with one hand and CRUSHED IT on two or three Knicks. Amir, please do this as well.

  83. 83 Lucas

LOL the guy that just got the zoom shot during “Detroit Basketball!!!” just really botched it.

  84. 84 joejoejoe

Oh boy…this is going to be like Hoosiers. The Knicks may play with 4 guys!

  85. 85 Greg

I’m a big fan of this lineup. Anyone notice what Chandler did to get ejected?

  86. 86 Lucas

Chandler has had enough babies eaten in front of him, he cant take anymore.

WTF did he do though? I wasnt watching him and theyre not showing replays, but to get tossed it really should be something serious. [like Amir’s flagrant ;) ]

  87. 87 Garrett

Neeeeew Yoooooork basket-baaaaaaaaall! Enjoy the Big Apple, LeBron!

  88. 88 joejoejoe

Greg - I think it was two consecutive techs, one for arguing, one for punching the basketball.

  89. 89 Garrett

He punched the ball into the stands, but he seemed pretty calm about it. I guess that’s an automatic ejection though, like drop-kicking it.

  90. 90 joejoejoe

LeBron to NYK = A-Rod to Texas Rangers

  91. 91 joejoejoe

    Maxiell > Tim Thomas

  92. 92 Lucas

    This game is like PRACTICE.

  93. 93 Lucas

Tim Thomas = mad @ joejoejoe

  94. 94 Garrett

I didn’t even know Tim Thomas was still in the league. And was that Malik Rose I just saw in the background?

  95. 95 Garrett

    Stuckey’s playing well.

  96. 96 Garrett

    FPCB had 39 tonight.

  97. 97 Rob G

This may be a night of magic.

  98. 98 Garrett

Shooting 54% from the field = night of magic.

  99. 99 joejoejoe

Tim Thomas isn’t a bad player, I just think he’s one of those guys that are neither great nor a role player and you never win with them. You have to choose a path as a player or you end up as a guy who sometimes feels like chucking it up, sometimes feels like playing d, and most of the time plays on a team under .500.

  100. 100 Paul M

    Damn, Spellcheck!

  101. 101 Garrett
  102. 102 Paul M

Double double for Stuckey, too. It might be his first. Does anyone know?

  103. 103 Lucas

Amir now with a double double

  104. 104 Garrett

    Amir with the tip-dunk! Hooray!

  105. 105 Lucas

I almost feel bad for the non-punk Knicks

  106. 106 Mike Payne

12-13-3. Who is this Amir Johnson kid? He has promise.

  107. 107 Garrett

I feel bad for LeBron for wanting to go there. Srsly.

  108. 108 Mike Payne

5-5 shooting, 3-3 from downtown, 5 boards. Who is this Afflalo kid? He has promise.

  109. 109 Mike Payne

Last, who is this Stuckey kid with his first career double double?

  110. 110 Garrett

Sure, New York is garbage, but our guys played loose and made everything look easy. If we can carry that swagger into the next game and build some momentum I’ll be happy.

  111. 111 Rob G

@Garrett: excellent work. The head blends right in!

  112. 112 Rob G

We start a DBB photoshop club

  113. 113 Rob G

*must, as in must start a Photoshop club

  114. 114 joejoejoe

I think Amir is available on the waiver wire in the DBB fantasy league. I dropped him earlier this season when he was having more fouls than points.

  115. 115 Boney

Eric Gordon won’t block 3 shots in a game in his entire career

    /instigating

  116. 116 Mike

Well Curry made one change. He kept Amir down low on defense and it showed in his rebounding.

However, there were at least 6 times in the second half when Amir was wide open in the paint but didn’t bet the ball.

  117. 117 Rob G
  118. 118 andyfrombrooklyn

kwame is a known. he would be great if he had hands. but he doesn’t. amir has tons of promise. speed and height. nose for the ball. and…hands. he can even shoot. play amir all the time. grow the kid.

  119. 119 Garrett

Rob G: Haha! Awesome. And so realistic! I think Lee was actually decapitated three times tonight.

  120. 120 Rob G

The hard part is drawing in real looking blood. Where’s that Ronnie guy, or Donnie, whatever. he should see my skillz

  121. 121 Mike

Amir with the crazy blocks! Who is this “Amir Johnson” fellow and when did he join the team?>>

Unfortunately for the Pistons no one was smart enought to play him.

They still are smart enough to get him the ball more often in the paint.

  122. 122 Laughton

Holy fantastic assist to turnover ratio Batman!
Stuckey did a 180 with his play. Someone tell me all about it.

  123. 123 Rob G

@Laughton: Stuck and Amir - in fact, the whole team - looked good. Rested. Active. Smart. It looked like a team. They might have (wait for it) practiced.
Sheed posted up several times. Kwame hustled. Spellcheck was awesome. Tay and AI ran the team. It was a great game. They didn’t play down to the Knicks or let up on the gas. Well done.

  124. 124 Diablo

Man, the only game I missed all season and the Pistons seemed liked they played their best basketball of the season.

  125. 125 Rob G

Diablo - They played better against the Lakers, but this was a close second.

  126. 126 Diablo

I seen Amir throw down a dunk with furry on one of the highlights, so I figured it had to be the best game.

If anyone has the game, I would greatly appreciate it, if I could watch.

  127. 127 Laughton

Ah, thanks Rob G. It sounds like a game worth watching.

  128. 128 kevin s.

This is the first game I’ve missed in its entirety, and the bench goes bonkers?

Ugh. Nonetheless, good for them. Those are some epic statlines. They must have been fun to watch. Dammit.

  129. 129 Mike Payne

I was going to say, “what’s the deal? why have so many of us missed this game? what is abnormal about this?” then i remembered the holiday… its too bad, curse Davenport and wherever the hell the rest of you are away from you TVs, your league pass and otherwise. I’m pissed so many of us missed this one.

Friday night is going to be a big test. Anyone who thinks it will be an easy game has another thing coming. We’ve got to bring our A game, the bucks are a wolf in sheeps clothing.

  130. 130 Forty

Garrett - you’re promoting your photoshop skills like mw promotes c-dub (that’s the street name for canadian club)

  131. 131 Forty

Great bounceback for stuckey - loved how he played and finished at the rim

  132. 132 Quick Darshan

Way to go Zoo Crew. 32 minutes for Amir. Afflalo 5-5 on jumpers. Maxiell 5-5 with two on jumpers. 11 assists for the Stuck. Hopefully this gimme win will boost their confidence.

  133. 133 Diablo

“They had eight players score in double figures - the first time they had done that since 1990″

Can someone check the accuracy of that statement? Because I know there were a lot of times during the Flip Saunders era where we were a very potent offense, getting alot of guys in double figues.

  134. 134 Mannie32

LMAO Curry take shot at George Karl (perhaps in retaliation for Karl’s shot at AI)

    ——-

Curry isn’t worried about Iverson’s physical ability to handle the defensive demands, just his understanding of the system.

“Those are all things he can do, but he’s coming from Denver,” Curry said before Wednesday’s win, in which Iverson scored 16. “He’s done it in his career, but they haven’t played defense out there the last couple years.”

    source: http://www.freep.com/article/20081127/SPORTS03/811270406/1051/rss16

  135. 135 Mike

The Amir vs Brown starting game has very little to do with Amir despite what Curry says.

Who it has to do with is Sheed.

Amir is a PF he is not a Center!!!
Brown is a Center not a PF!!!

Sheed is both a PF and a Center!!!

So if Curry thinks that Sheed matches up well with the opponent’s center and can stay out of foul trouble guarding him Curry will start Sheed at Center and Amir at PF.

If Curry thinks that the opposing team’s Center is too big for Sheed and could easily get him into foul trouble Curry will start Brown at Center and move Sheed to the PF.

  136. 136 Mike

For example lets look at the Pistons next opponent; i.e. the Bucks

Bogut is 7′ and about 260, however he plays a lot away from the basket like Sheed does so he is a lot easier for Sheed to defend than Brown who can’t play defense anywhere but in the paint. So Curry will start Sheed at Center rather Brown and start Amir at PF.

  137. 137 Vivian

Bogut is injured…so i think will will see amir

  138. 138 Colin

    Mike,

Do you have a window into Curry’s soul?

  139. 139 Katie

Uh-oh….Allen Iverson didn’t show up to practice this morning:

    http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2008/11/iverson_a_noshow_at_practice.html

  140. 140 Sean W.

i can already guess what AI’s comments on this matter will be.

  141. 141 Rob G

OT: So I call my folks for T-Giving and my dad says, “Say, you should turn on the Lions game. You don’t often get to see them in DC, do you?” and I was all, “You’re right, Dad! You’ve never steered me wrong!”

I’m about ready to audition for a new Dad. That has got to be the worst Thanksgiving suggestion ever.

  142. 142 Rob G

What the hell is going on with Iverson? I don’t think any of us saw this coming.

  143. 143 Garrett

He just completely embarrassed Joe D. He better have a good excuse.

  144. 144 joejoejoe

Maybe the Iversons have their turkey on Thanksgiving eve and he OD’ed on tryptophan. AI is only like 165 pounds. Two drumsticks and the guy is out like you hit him with an elephant gun. And I’ve always like watching the Lions on Thanksgiving. They have cool uniforms and they aren’t the Cowboys.

    Happy Thanksgiving DBB!

  145. 145 Diablo

“And I’ve always like watching the Lions on Thanksgiving. They have cool uniforms and they aren’t the Cowboys.”

I hear you, man. But soon they are going to force me to turn the tv off.

  146. 146 Mike Payne

    Not a game.

  147. 147 Rob G

    I am thankful. For DBB!

  148. 148 Forty

Michael curry - when you come to the arena. You see ai play don’t you? You see him play every game like it’s his last…

  149. 149 Skylar

Iverson, still flaky after all these years.

Marbury’s supreme flakyness continues to blow my mind however. Wow.

No chance in hell I am going to watch the Lions period, f*ck those clowns, The next time I watch them play football will be around the time LeBron is in a Knicks uniform.

Wish I watched the stones last night but I had to work. Shoulda DVR’d

  150. 150 Nick T.

Y’all talkin bout practice. AI is talkin bout Thanksgiving. I actually like the idea of AI coming off the bench as our “sixth starter.” Stuckey can get Rip going and a second unit of AI, Afflalo, Amir & Maxiell would be pretty athletic and suit AI’s style of play better. Ginobilli has come off the bench for San Antonio. Anybody else like the idea?

  151. 151 Quick Darshan

What I’m thankful for… the Fords don’t own the Pistons.

  152. 152 Forty

Not the stuffing. Not the stuffing. We in here talkin bout turkey.

  153. 153 prophecy_projectz

Wow!@ ESPN blowing this shit out of proportion. He did mess up big time, but lol@ it being a top story.

  154. 154 jay_uno

How about Tay leading the league in 3 Point %…

  155. 155 Garrett

How about LeBron’s ridiculous post-game quotes when the Cavs were in New York?

  156. 156 Yahtzee

Let’s hope AI has a legit excuse.

  157. 157 Skylar

I’m so tired of LeBron’s flaky waffling on staying in Cleveland. Those people are gonna hate him when he finally leaves. I’ve lost alot of respect for him as a result. Just be straight with people and tell them you’re gonna try to win the next couple years and when 2010 comes up, you’re leaving for NY.

  158. 158 Rob G

How the hell am I supposed to make my family better by eating turkey?

  159. 159 slappy

WTF, Iverson? I just get home from work and see this? So much for seeing AI after this season.

  160. 160 andyfrombrooklyn
