Pistons host Bucks

DBB is in its fourth season of existence and I still don’t have a solid game preview formula. One thing is for sure, though: BrewHoop does it up right, offering a balanced look at tonight’s Bucks-Pistons game.

I’ll be at the Palace tonight with DBB readers Fadel, TW, Stuck and Tiny watching the game in the Pistons.com suite. I’m all for Michael Curry putting his foot down and benching Allen Iverson for the start of the game, but for the sake of everyone heading out tonight, I hope he gets into the game at some point.

The ball tips at 8 PM on Fox Sports — as usual, leave your thoughts in the comments.

I am not moving from my computer for the next few hours. In the words of Aerosmith “I dont wanna miss a thing”

I am not moving from my computer for the next few hours. In the words of Aerosmith “I dont wanna miss a thing”

Images of slow dancing in the highscholl gymnasium coming to mind. That’s an pretty awful song.

How about anything from Toys in the Attic?

  3. 3 Laughton

I must admit I always found the song unbearable, but it fits my purpose here. If I was watching on my laptop perhaps I could “Walk this way” and not miss a thing at the same time.

  4. 4 PistonsNation.com

    Touché

  5. 5 Laughton

I cant fucking believe this. I am unable to watch the game again due to things beyond my control. I will be back later for a recap I guess.
    :(

  6. 6 Garrett

I have images of Ben Affleck making animal crackers walk up Liv Tyler’s stomach. Thanks a lot, Laughton.

  7. 7 Martin

    any streams for this game?

  8. 8 Lucas

Laughton gets a bad song stuck in my head and then ditches us. ::shakes head::

  9. 9 Lucas

Freed less than 3 minutes in

  10. 10 Garrett

Anyone have a link? I tried searching Justin.tv but couldn’t find one. Although I’m just a simple caveman, and your world frightens and confuses me……….

  11. 11 Lucas

Stuckey putting on a clinic in the 1st half of the 1st quarter.. and if thats not enough, Amir hit a 20 ft jumper

  12. 12 PS

    Any link yet?

  13. 13 Forty

Gotta keep gadzuric off the glass

  14. 14 PS

    Here’s a link–just found it.

    http://www.andromedanet.com/tvtuner_justin_ps9.html

You’ll need to enter “andromedanet.com” as the password, but the feed is pretty good.

  15. 15 Lucas

We’d be up near 10 if Rip was hitting today and Ridnour wasnt on fire.

Amir doing a little too much volleyball right now.

  16. 16 Lucas

    Stuckey to Amir!

  17. 17 Garrett
  18. 18 joejoejoe

BrewHoop preview: “Injuries: Pistons players are never hurt. What the hell’s with that?”

    Google Arnie Kander.

  19. 19 Garrett

If Amir can’t do well against Gadzuric and Villenueva, I’ll be worried.

  20. 20 Garrett

Anyone else tired of those “Where whatever happens…” commercials? I mean, seriously, those aren’t even sentences any more.

  21. 21 Forty

Rip totally missed amir on the break there - that was a gimme alley oop

  22. 22 Mike Payne

    @Garrett:
I’m prompted for an access code for that justin.tv link… you got one?

wish i was at home with my league pass…

  23. 23 Garrett

AI: “[Joe D] let me know the way things were run around here…” I bet he did.

  24. 24 Garrett

MP: I think you just have to type andromedanet.net or whatever (scroll down).

  25. 25 Garrett

AI just checked in and scored in about 8 seconds. The crowd cheered, which is a good sign…..I guess.

  26. 26 Mike Payne

    nevermind, i’m a moron, i found it…

  27. 27 Lucas

The only time I’ve ever missed a dunk I was trying to throw really hard resulted in a huge blood blister. Everytime I see someone miss a dunk now I cringe and can feel it

  28. 28 Garrett

Maxiell just consumed Richard Jefferson’s baby, but by blocking, not dunking. Too bad Amir missed that alley-oop though. I think he may have read Boney’s pamphlet!

  29. 29 UTEP2STEP

Surprised Curry didn’t stick with Stuckey for longer. He was dominant.
Side note: Anybody read the Stephen A article about Amare?

  30. 30 Garrett

Lucas: I HATE those. My friend and I used to call them stingers, when you’d hit your finger on the rim funny from trying to kill it, and it would go numb. Or most of your hand would go numb. Usually you can hear a clang when that happens, and I cringe too.

  31. 31 joejoejoe

    Baby with giblets.

  32. 32 Forty

Garrett - I’m at the palace, and the AI noise sounded more like mild booing than cheering. All was forgiven after the layup though :)

  33. 33 Lucas

Garrett - Im glad someone else feels my pain. It took me a long time to try it again after that.

  34. 34 Restructer_It

If anyone can find Michigan State vs Oklahoma State online please let me know.

  35. 35 Garrett

Forty: Thanks for the correction! It sounded like cheering to me, but then again I’m watching a streaming feed on $5 Radio Shack speakers. I’m so jealous that you’re there!

  36. 36 Garrett

How can you not like Afflalo? He just makes good basketball plays.

  37. 37 joejoejoe

Afflalo looks like his handle is a lot better this year.

  38. 38 Forty

It’s sad that the palace is louder for some stupid giveaway than any of amir or maxiell’s 8 or so highlights

  39. 39 Lucas

    LOL I love Sheed

  40. 40 Lucas

AI looks rusty, like he didnt even touch a ball yesterday or something

  41. 41 Garrett

    Herrmann for thrreeee!

  42. 42 Forty

Lol @ lue guarding AI - didn’t you learn your lesson tyronn

  43. 43 Garrett

This is a dunk-a-thon. I like this offense.

  44. 44 joejoejoe

Has ‘Sheed ever been in the 3-pt contest at the All-Star game?

  45. 45 Garrett

I actually really like AI in this second unit. I said a while back that it seemed to make sense to put Stuckey in with the first unit because he’s a bit more Chauncey-esque (but not much) and have AI run wild on the second unit. So far so good*.

    *but it IS the Bucks.

  46. 46 Forty

Bucks with a nice 4:5 ast:to ratio. Well done guys.

  47. 47 Garrett

Forty: Did you get an Automotion calendar? omg.

  48. 48 joejoejoe

AI/Afflalo/Herrmann/Max/Sheed has good balance. Even the headbands are every other guy.

  49. 49 Rob G

This looks like a night of magic.

  50. 50 Lucas

Night of magic indeed, the Canadian Club is on ice for the celebration

  51. 51 O-town General

Garrett … was thinking the same thing.

  52. 52 Lucas

love the 2 seconds late whistle

  53. 53 Forty

Haha nope garrett. But I did get an authentic amir johnson jersey at the palace gift store, where all merchandise, including fine canadian club whiskey, is 30pct off

  54. 54 Lucas

And a late whistle that goes our way

  55. 55 Garrett

Slick pass by Stuckey to Tay!

  56. 56 Forty

Canadian club: goes down smoother than a rodney stuckey dime

  57. 57 joejoejoe

I’m not sure about the 3 guard lineup with Tay and Max in the front court. That’s a small lineup in the NCAA.

  58. 58 Garrett

Kwame delivered some Thanksgiving turkey! I’m surprised he didn’t drop it! http://www.sadtrombone.com

  59. 59 Forty

    Haha jefferson sucks

  60. 60 Garrett

You’d think Max would be stuffed with turkey, but he still has plenty of room for the Bucks’ babies.

  61. 61 Forty

2 thoughts: alexander just consumed all of maxiell’s future progeny

My god are these whistles coming late.

  62. 62 Lucas

Agrees on Forty’s thoughts, and toasts some cold Canadian Club to that.

  63. 63 joejoejoe

Joe Alexander looks OK for Milwaukee but he apparently he looks good to Tayshaun. They Pistons ran a clear out so Tay could take him a few plays in a row and Alexander kept fouling Tay.

Note: Afflalo is +13 in under 9 minutes. The team just rolls with him out on the court.

  64. 64 Quick Darshan

Nice looking box score. 10 players got in and the Pistons put up 62.

  65. 65 Quick Darshan

    Afflalo’s shooting a high-percentage this year.

/nods to Hubie Brown and takes a drink.

  66. 66 Rob G

I like these rotations. And everyone is playing team defense. It’s as if they got together on a none game-day and went through plays and sets. There’s a word for that… oh, yeah! Rehearsal.

  67. 67 Forty

Rob G - how the hell can I make my team defense better be rehearsal?

  68. 68 Forty

  69. 69 Primosh

Our Pistons have such good hearts. That was nice to see…players caring for those in need.

  70. 70 Forty

Primosh - but only one has great hair

  71. 71 John G

    The Charlotte Obama Cats

    O - Okafer - PF
    B - Brown - SG
    A - Ajinca - C
    M - Morrison - SF
    A - Augustine - PG

  72. 72 PS

Primosh–what link are you using? The stream I was watching stopped during halftime.

  73. 73 Primosh

    True, true.

  74. 74 EntityAbyss

Anyone know where I can stream this game?

  75. 75 Quick Darshan

I’m sure Skiles was rather pleased with the Bucks’ defensive performance in the first half.

  76. 76 Rob G

QD: Yes, Skiles most likely did not raise his voice or accost his players for their efforts.

  77. 77 Forty

    Free amir mike

  78. 78 Rob G

FREE AI! WHY IS HE RIDING THE PINE!!???!!!12#1342

  79. 79 Mike Payne

okay, time to inject some Amir into the situation.

  80. 80 Forty

Amir blocked too many shots in the first half - curry just wants to make it fair

  81. 81 Rob G

Maybe Amir didn’t show up to the locker halftime talk.

  82. 82 Forty

Automotion - just a couple girl next door types…if you live next door to the hotel california

  83. 83 Forty

Charlie - your babies are now on notice

  84. 84 Forty

Lol amir was halfway down the court on the break when they blew that whistle…what a joke

  85. 85 Rob G

I think Max should get the player of the game. He’s been the difference maker.

  86. 86 Quick Darshan

But who gets the “Cup of Mediocrity?” Gadzuric?

  87. 87 Rob G

That’s up to Forty, I think.

  88. 88 Quick Darshan

I think Garrett created the “Cup.” And bestows it as well.

  89. 89 Rob G

    It’s all good.

Someone up thread joked that AI looks rusty. He does, actually.

  90. 90 Rob G

Herrmann called for the spasmodic foul.

  91. 91 Forty

Qd - he’s close, but he’s going to have to want it. Gadzuric’s ticket to the dance is nearly punched.

  92. 92 Rob G

Is that lump in Skiles’s head where he keeps all his angry?

  93. 93 Quick Darshan

Is that Afflalo’s first missed shot in over a week?

  94. 94 Forty

Zomg that’s the same play from the 2001 finals! Suck it tyronn!

  95. 95 Rob G

That trap was badass. Plus the Ostertag-style dunk by Afflalo.

  96. 96 Forty

Afflalo does not have mfwb hops

  97. 97 Rob G

    Herrmann with the corrnnerr trrey!

  98. 98 Rob G

Forty (or Garrett) - what about Alexander for the “cup”?

  99. 99 Quick Darshan

I think Mike Payne would be offended if Ramon Sessions got the “Cup of Mediocrity.”

  100. 100 Rob G

DONN’T YOU EVERR LEAVE HERRMANN OPENN!

  101. 101 Forty

    Those were some luscious thrrees!

  102. 102 Mr Monday

    HERRMANNSTER! HERRMANNSTER! HERRMANNSTER! HERRMANNSTER! HERRMANNSTER!

  103. 103 Primosh

Walter are you kidding me?? awesome

  104. 104 Rban

Iverson and Walter seem to be playing real well together, id like to see the 2 of them out there together alot more.

  105. 105 Forty

Ramon Sessions - mike payne would like to present you with the willie greene-tony allen^2 cup!

  106. 106 Rob G

This is most clearly a night of magic.

  107. 107 Forty

Groan, someone who has been to the palace a few times this year pls confirm that we don’t do this red sox sweet caroline bullshit every night now with “don’t stop believin”

  108. 108 Quick Darshan

6 in double figures. 3 more knocking on the door.

  109. 109 Rob G

    Tay’s gettin’ jealous of Herrmann’s legendary 5 three-pointer night…

  110. 110 Quick Darshan

Jarvis will no forever be known as Arvis.

  111. 111 Primosh

    Walter, I love you man.

  112. 112 Quick Darshan

    now

  113. 113 Rob G

The angry lump on Skiles’s head just got bigger.

  114. 114 b23

    Walter!

  115. 115 Forty

    walterr wannts minnutes

  116. 116 Mr Monday

We have a serious gem in the Herrmanster. I think we should extend his contract even further. He is clearly loved here.

  117. 117 b23

Let’s get two or three more players in double digits. Please?

  118. 118 Forty

    Enter the sandman

  119. 119 O-town General

    is there a sharpe sighting

  120. 120 Quick Darshan

It’s easy to look good with your rotations when every single player has a good game.

  121. 121 Forty

    Yikes austin croshere…retire man

  122. 122 Rob G

    practice.

  123. 123 Garrett

Argh, I missed the second half because the wife came home and wanted to “talk” about “stuff”.

And congrats to Ramon Sessions for coming off the bench to score 21 on us when he normally averages 15. Enjoy the cup!

  124. 124 Rob G

Garrett - condolences, my friend. I tip a cool glass of C-Club in your honor, you brave soul.

  125. 125 Mike Payne

    @Forty:
“Ramon Sessions - mike payne would like to present you with the willie greene-tony allen^2 cup!”

Ahhh Forty, you remember! I was big on the kid last season, pumped about him this season and think he will (still) be the wild card for that team that, by Feb, could help the Bucks inch toward an 8th seed berth. Unlikely, but if it happens it’ll be because of him.

  126. 126 Mike Payne

    @Garrett:
    ““talk” about “stuff””

Can I be the godfather? :)

  127. 127 Forty

Garrett - you should have told her that unless the “stuff” was “walter herrmann’s upcoming three point barrage” it can wait

  128. 128 Garrett

Haha, you guys always crack me up. Have I mentioned this is my favourite blog ever? I hear that Gear Crave site is pretty decent, too. Almost as good as a nice, cold Canadian Club.

It’s good to see that our guys came together and played well again. I wish we could get some consistency, though. When we’re on, we’re ON. But in some of those losses it looked like a different team out there (not to mention easy shots and lay-ups were bouncing out). How many times do you think AI heard, “Practice?!?!” from the rest of the team when he showed up?

  129. 129 Rban

Rasheed is playing really well this season, might not have shown in the stats tonight but hes been extremely solid for us, 13ppg 9rbs, 2blks 46%fg 40% 3 pointers, if he can stay this steady and oolid this season it would be awesome, we an only hope.

  130. 130 kevin s.

After tonight’s game Herrmann leads the team in PERR. It’s time to get the dude off the pine.

  131. 131 Forty

So I think I’ve yet to say anything accurate this year. Just as I say stuckey has been a big disappointment, he plays two excellent games. My diss on will bynum and saying kwame would be a disaster as a starter think I need to put a sock in it.

    Go stones!

  132. 132 joejoejoe

The Pistons would be a .500 team this season if they didn’t shoot a high 3-pt% and take slightly better care of the basketball than their opponents (basically all Tay and Sheed). It’s nice to see the defense start to crank up a bit (7 steals, 10 blocks, MIL shot 40.5%) with a little…repeated performance of techniques and skills. Slightly better FG% from AI and Rip and slightly better rebounding and the team just might be going places.

  133. 133 Forty

If anyones up, the lakers mavs game is outstanding

  134. 134 Laughton

    So… How did it go?

  135. 135 Laughton

I am back *grumbles* I must thank the wife once again for being a wife.

  136. 136 Other Matt

Like everybody else, I’m with family for the weekend (without access to League Pass, bah!), but I wanted to say I got a huge kick out of the game thread. I laugh out loud when Rob G comes in with the “night of magic” line. Strong effort guys.

Ill-fitting checkered suits? We talkin’ bout ill-fitting checkered suits? Not a tailored ensemble or at least one that’s in style, but ill-fitting checkered suits? It’s time to up your game, MC, you’re making head coach money now.

  138. 138 Fadel

Excellent game tonight. We had a lot of fun. Thanks again, Matt (and Dave)!

  139. 139 joejoejoe

Curry’s tie looked good on the internet. I thought the suit pattern was pixelation from a low-quality feed. Guess I was wrong. Looks like MC might have gotten into Larry Brown’s old stash of ABA suits.

  140. 140 john

I know everyone must be talking about the Answer missing from practice but you can’t take away anything from what he has done tonight. Simply unbelievable.

Two of my favorite Motor City Rockers, AI and Walter HERRMANN were just superb from the bench. Seems like both of them made a pack while sitting out to go out there and bring the house down.

Given at any chance, I’m happy to see Walter’s progress with the Pistons. It seems like coach CURRY has found the right game plan that really works for him.

I’m a Pistons fan when it comes to the Eastern Conference and I want to seem them topping over the Celtics. With a little bit of help from a player like Walter, I do see every possibility of that happening.

Here is my take on the Pistons/Bucks game, which I would appreciate to hear some feedback from you.

    http://mundoalbiceleste.blogspot.com/2008/11/nba-news-another-walter-show-in-palace.html

  141. 141 colin

I’m rewatching the game and Greg Kelser just said:

“I think Allen Iverson relishes any opportunity he has to give it to Tyronn Lue.”

    Made my night.

  142. 142 Paul M

The Herrmann/AI combo works perfectly. Fabio needs all his 3s forcefed to him (the dude is basically assisted on all his shots), and Iverson’s drive and kicks are just what he needs. The two should play more together.

  143. 143 Boney

I’m sorry I couldn’t enjoy the game last night… my ex and I made plans to eat a late thanksgiving at her parents house before she became my ex… long story…

I did see the highlights, and I was impressed by the alley oop thunderdunk by Amir and then the slam the ball down with 2 hands on the floor and then 3 steps to the rack baby tenderizer by Maxiell…

    A night of magic indeed…

  144. 144 Boney

    oh yeah…

    LawyerBoy was right…

Michael Curry’s suit from last night looked like a tablecloth at one of those cheesy italian pizza joints… perhaps he’ll bust out a red and white checkered one next time

  145. 145 Ian Cameron

Abbey and I had a great time. Thanks to Matt for making this happen.

    3 takeaways…

    1) Michael Curry’s suit, indeed.

    2) Greg Kelser’s personalized license plate says “MSU 79″ but should say “I Played with Magic.”

    3) Free Automotion calendars for all!

  146. 146 Boney

    Welcome back Ian!

  147. 147 Forty

I’m imagining a picture of boney and garrett sitting on a couch, half-looking at a tv while two girls are trying to get their attention. And the text on the photo says “the nba: where honey we need to talk happens”

  148. 148 Garrett

Forty: Ha! Throw Laughton in the mix and we’re all set! Maybe he’ll get to watch a game one of these days……….

    Welcome back Ian!

  149. 149 Rob G

Gentlemen, you did not do the vital task of indoctrinating your ladies into loving the Pistons as my wife does… here’s a tip: get them excited about a certain player. What player has appeal to the ladies? I thinnk the annswerr is rreadily apparrennt.

  150. 150 Forty

    Rob G - rrodnney white?

  151. 151 Mike Payne

    @Boney:
Ouch, my man. Sorry to hear that…

  152. 152 LawyerBoy

Rob G: Exactly, unless your girl is one of those types who’s into Tayshaun. Also to consider, any time you want to put Pistons before the other half, buy her something really nice to soften the blow, then play her a recording of Mason’s introductions, and she’ll probably understand.

  153. 153 Rob G

My wife is totally into Tay. So I watch the games when I please - and she’s right there with me! I’m lucky guy.

  154. 154 Rob G

*a. as in, “a lucky guy”

  155. 155 Other Matt

I’m with Rob G on this. My girlfriend loves the Pistons (she took the Chauncey trade harder than I did), Herrmann is definitely her (new) favorite. I think it’s his spasomadic defense…

Off topic, anybody watch the Michigan basketball game? I went over to the Big Ten Network site to watch what I assumed would be garbage time and wound up watching the final parts of our massive comeback. With the game tied and 3.7 seconds left, Zack Novak stole the inbounds pass and went the length of the floor for a dunk to win… except he missed the dunk. Then I hung with it until Sims’s buzzer beater in OT. Nothing like a potential home loss to Savannah State to get the juices flowing.

  156. 156 Forty

OM - it was awesome! I was at crisler. Ssu shot 71pct in the first half and their press really bothered us. They led 39-19 at the half. Then we went on a 15-0 run to open the 2nd and harris was a badass at the line. Very entertaining game. I’ll take 5-1 with a win over ucla and our only loss to duke any day.

As for your hypothesis that your girlfriend likes walter b/c of his defense…hey man, whatever helps you sleep at night ;)

  157. 157 Garrett

Although my wife can appreciate my love of the Pistons, she just flat-out doesn’t like basketball so she never wants to watch the game with me. Luckily with the justin.tv feeds I can watch them online while she watches Grey’s or something. Just kill Izzy off already, damn it.

  158. 158 Ian Cameron

    Thanks, Boney.

  159. 159 Mike Payne

My situation is similar to Garrett’s. My girlfriend couldn’t care less about sports, nor does she ever watch TV. If it were up to her, we wouldn’t have a TV in the house. However, she respects my appreciation for the Pistons and never complains when I watch a game (see: every single pre-season, regular season and post-season game). I’m lucky in that regard. I may miss a few due to prior engagements, but she’s always understanding about my “addiction”.

I think my double genitalia makes it a bit easier for her.

  160. 160 Laughton

Mike Payne you just made me snort my coffee! +1.33
I must say that my situation is very similar to Garretts and MPs.
My wife tolerates my addiction, but the combination of her always wearing my pants and gametimes of about 10:00am really makes it hard to scratch that itch.
The thing is that my reasons for missing games are actually legitimate, exams etc. The last game was because one of my best friends kids, Josh, had a birthday (he turned 5). The really sad thing is it was more than likely his last one because he has Neuroblastoma and has also relapsed. The preciousness of life and our loved ones is really rammed home when something as tragic as this affects people you love. For the record though, he had a fantastic birthday and got massive amounts of presents.

I am reading over what I have just written and I feel the urge to delete it because I hate to bring these things into here. I will leave it, I cant explain why. Maybe its because I cant bring myself to delete the words.

I apologise for getting carried away, but the thoughts just wanted to get out of my head.

  161. 161 Quick Darshan

Other Matt and Forty, do you know anything about this Lavel Lucas-Perry kid that’s joining the team in December?

I’ve always had faith in Beilein, but didn’t think he’d have them playing this well this year. I think a 5th place finish in the Big Ten is realistic, which isn’t great but it’s a step in the right direction.

  162. 162 Kriz

Personally I’m okay with that Laughton. I wouldn’t have wanted to delete those words either.

Basketball is pretty important but… sometimes off topic is pretty important too.

    I agree with PG4L:
Glad you didn’t delete, Laughton. We’re a damn tight group, and I genuinely like and respect the people here.

Thanks for understanding PG4L & MP, I dont share my thoughts much about this stuff.

Anyway, back on to a topic that is basketball. I am NOT missing the next game, I swear! It starts 5am here, but I will be up in my old man slippers watching all the action. This should be a real test as Portland has been rolling. I will not be moved from my computer (maybe).

QD - LLP is a pg transfer from arizona. He’s supposedly going to be one of our top 3 players, along with harris and sims. He’s apparently a lock-down defender and a good playmaker. Haven’t heard what his shooting stroke is like. I think our biggest weaknesses as they stand are pg and c. So I’m glad we’re filling one of those needs. Every commentator I’ve heard is really high on him, so it’s pretty encouraging!
