Pistons open the season in Memphis

The ball is about to tip on Fox Sports — although if you’re out-of-state, you’re in luck, because NBA League Pass for both your TV and computer is available as a free trial this week.

The youth movement will be put on pause this game — 35-year-old Ben Wallace will be in the starting lineup, while rookies Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko are serving their one-game suspensions. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, will be without DBB favorite Allen Iverson, who’s nursing a hamstring injury. Sad, I know.

That’s all for now — the game’s about to start, so join your fellow fans in the comments.

    First!

  2. 2 Mike Payne

    Nice chin-stache, Ben.

  3. 3 brgulker
  4. 4 Jim

    Tay with the dunk!

  5. 5 Other Matt

brgulker, I will now fight you to the death. We don’t do that “FIRST!” shit around here.

ALSO, WTF!? We go from 3-6 Mafia to Teenage Wasteland by The Who.

TRADE THE MEMPHIS MUSIC GUY NOW!

  6. 6 J Dre

DEEEEEETROIT BAAAAASKETBAAAALLLLLLLLLLL! No Mason, so I figure I’d try to fill the gigantic shoes.

And TAY doing something. This season has promise.

  7. 7 Mike Payne

It’s great to see Rip, Tay and Ben again…

  8. 8 brgulker

I know we don’t do first here … but it’s the first game thread. cut me some slack!

  9. 9 Other Matt

J Dre, I like you. Ridiculous overreacting optimism is not a thing we’re used to seeing around here. Just don’t go off the deep end when the boo-hoos come out.

  10. 10 Joe

Anyone else this is DaJuan Summers only real chance this season? After tonight, Jerebko and Daye will be back, and Summers goes back to the end of the bench with Chuckles… but tonight if Summers comes in and plays well like he hasn’t all preseason, he’ll almost automatically have an edge on the other two rooks.

  11. 11 Casey

Did Vilanueva just become the new Amir?

  12. 12 Sean W.

CV is trying to play defense. The refs just aren’t feelin’ it.

  13. 13 Joe

Casey, when Amir averages 16 and 7 in something other than the D-League, let me know ;)

  14. 14 Other Matt

Villanueva cannot be the new Amir until Mike shows up, says how he knows his high school coach, then demands that we TRADE VILLANUEVA NOW!

  15. 15 J Dre

    Dear Other Matt,

    I make no promises…

  16. 16 Casey

Just talking about the role of “foul machine.” And there’s the first look of disbelief from Tayshaun for the season. I’ve been missing that.

  17. 17 Joe

HAHAHA, and they make fun of Kwame’s hands

  18. 18 Casey

When did Melvin Ely let Ben have his facial hair?

  19. 19 Cody

    Pistons basketball! Finally!

  20. 20 Other Matt

    Dammit, I missed Big Ben.

  21. 21 Mike Payne

    this is fucking exciting

  22. 22 Cody

oh snap. Big Ben with the start over Kwame…is this the real thing or is Kwame limited b/c of his injury?

  23. 23 wutsurbeef

its awesome to hear blaha’s delayed reactions again…ahhhhh

  24. 24 Casey

I must say it looks damn good seeing Ben rebound the ball in a Piston uniform (and at minimum wage).

  25. 25 Garrett

Zach Randolph makes me laugh. He’s totally that guy at the gym who makes 1 prayer out of 10 and then acts all serious about it, like, “Yeah, I got that. All day long baby.”

  26. 26 J Dre

    Ha, “minimum wage.”

  27. 27 brgulker

    Ben Wallace > Kwame Brown.

  28. 28 Prophecy_projectz

Late to the party. Holy shit Orlando is a scary team this year. 70 1st half points.

This Ben Wallace thing might work out till about Feb or so

  29. 29 Joe

P_p: I hate to be a downer, but we really don’t have to worry too much about anything past April or early May

  30. 30 Other Matt

Hey! The chief boo-hoo is here!

  31. 31 brgulker

Toronto is beating the crap out of hte Cavs.

  32. 32 Prophecy_projectz

Also lol@ Cleveland getting stomped by the Raptors. We nervous Ohio?

  33. 33 Cody

damn. Bargnani with 21 first half points.

  34. 34 Other Matt

It took less than 8 minutes for Ben Wallace to start leaving his finger prints all over this game.

  35. 35 Sean W.

I think I forgive Ben now.

  36. 36 Jim

    Ben is looking spry!

  37. 37 scntfc

that would have been the play of the night had ben finished

  38. 38 Garrett

The Ben Wallace free throw line adventures begin.

  41. 41 Cody

jeez. anyone see that much from Kwame? that was aggressive as hell..i love it!

  42. 42 Mike Payne

This Ben Wallace thing might work out till about Feb or so

    BOOOO HOOOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. 43 Cody

    see that move**

  44. 44 Joe

Anyone see Brook Lopez with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks IN THE FIRST QUARTER?

  45. 45 Other Matt

    @ MP, *Hi Five*

  46. 46 Casey

    Look out babies!

  47. 47 Garrett

    I like Pistons basketball.

    Hello, Mini-Ben!

  49. 49 Jim

    BG!

  50. 50 Kriz

    Ben MF Gordon!

  51. 51 Cody

OH MY GOD! Benny with the sweet 4 point play.

  52. 52 Mike Payne

Excellent first points as a Piston, Ben Gordon!

  53. 53 wutsurbeef

first four point piston play of the year…not the last

  54. 54 Mike Payne

    @Other Matt:
Right back at you, buddy! Didn’t see you got him first!

  59. 59 scntfc

    Lol!
    +1

  60. 60 Boney

because the Grizzlies are wearing blue

    /it’s starting early this season

  61. 61 Other Matt

OT: I remain confused why anybody who pays any attention to the NBA thinks that Shaq makes Cleveland better, and that includes Danny Ferry.

  62. 62 scntfc

they got red of the red unis, which in my opinion looks better. white is the color of surrender

  63. 63 scntfc

    rid

  64. 64 Cody

Stuck’s really aggressive on defense so far.

  65. 65 Joe

LeBron would call that a “crab dribble” hahahahaha

  66. 66 Mike Payne

    MFWB. Now what, memphis.

  67. 67 TDP

    Willuminati!

  68. 68 Boney

got red of the red unis?

scntfc, you’re not helping your cause with me dummy

  69. 69 Cody

    Here comes the original MF’er!

  70. 70 Jim

Grizzlies are hitting some tough shots

  71. 71 brgulker

Hi Boney, nice to see you, too.

  72. 72 Boney

    KWAME!

  73. 73 Mike Payne

    bynum to cake!

  74. 74 TDP

    Cakehammer!

  75. 75 Casey

WHAT? Kwame caught a pass in traffic?

  76. 76 Cody

ok..i’m loving Kwame so far. he;s running the court, looking for the ball, and being really aggressive with it when he does get it.

  77. 77 J Dre

Ben Gordon wanted those fast break points…poor guy.

  78. 78 Boney

    @brgulker

    kiss off, queerbait

  79. 79 TDP

Haha… see that dude checking his face for blood after Tay smoked the first five rows?!

  80. 80 Joe

Luckily that big fat guy was there to break Tay’s fall… do you think he has to pay for two seats because he sits in two seats?

(Just a disclaimer, I’m big myself, so I can say that)

  81. 81 Other Matt

I think I might like this Ben Gordon guy.

  82. 82 J Dre

First buzzer beater of the season. QUALITY.

  83. 83 Mike Payne

    BG187911WTFBBQFTW!!!11111!1!!!!!!

  84. 84 brgulker

Gotta love our effort on the offensive glass that quarter. Kwame and Big Ben.

  85. 85 TDP

    bngrdn4lyf

  86. 86 Boney

    Cleveland is getting smoked.

  87. 87 Michael

    Liking Ben Gordon so far!

  88. 88 Jim

    BG with the buzzer beater!

Good quarter overall. I felt like we got much better shots overall, they just made some tougher ones. 12 trips to the line is nice too.

  89. 89 Kriz

    Not a bad first quarter.

  90. 90 Garrett

    I like Small Ben.

  91. 91 Terrence Lynch

I say we nickname Ben Gordon “Commissioner.” You know, like Commissioner Gordon from Batman. Because he’s… uh…

    Shut up, that’s why!

  92. 92 brgulker

ORlando: 90 points scored, 4:47 left … in the 3rd quarter.

  93. 93 J Dre

Is it a bad thing that I wasn’t upset not seeing Charlie V playing much of that quarter?

  94. 94 TDP

    Ben “Michael Chiklis” Gordon

  95. 95 brgulker

Is it a bad thing that I wasn’t upset not seeing Charlie V playing much of that quarter?

    No.

    Wheres Gabe?

  96. 96 Boney

    @ J Dre

Those were a couple of shitty calls against CV, to be honest.

  97. 97 Casey

I shall do it just for: Shut up, that’s why! Love it.

  98. 98 mannie32

loving the game so far, stuckey looking good, as is kwame and big ben
rip’s shot isnt there but he played good defense, and tay is as usual… tho gay did make a couple shots on him, but i thought he’s playing well

  99. 99 Joe

Before anyone starts talking about BG’s bad defense, Mayo clearly hooked him.

  100. 100 mannie32

oh and that 4 point play by gordon was nuts, love it

  101. 101 Matt Watson

Anyone else notice it still says “1st” on the scoreboard at the bottom of the screen? I wonder how many people are turning on the game now and freaking out at the score.

  102. 102 Jim

Is there a prettier jumper in the game then Ben Gordon’s?

  103. 103 Joe

    Classic Rip

  104. 104 J Dre

@ Jim- Ray Allen’s? I can’t stand Ben Gordon’s shot- throws me off in 2K10.

  105. 105 Cody

Eli Zaret with the burn on A.I. haha!

  106. 106 Terrence Lynch

Wait, I got it! Rip can be Batman because he wears a mask and Gordon can be the Commissioner!

  107. 107 Garrett

Ben kind of hoists from his shoulder a little bit. I like Rip or Ray Allen’s form a bit better, but Small Ben is money.

  108. 108 Prophecy_projectz

    “It takes more than practice”

    You fucking hear that Allen??

  109. 109 SadPanda

Whew, welcome back basketball! Oh how I missed ye…

The UConn boys look good tonight and I like Big Ben’s presence on defense. Too bad we won’t see Daye or the fightin’ Swede tonight.

  110. 110 Thom

    @Terrence Lynch

I’ve been trying to get that one to catch on, too! Seriously, can we do better than “Commissioner Gordon?” I don’t think so. Plus, we can shorten it to “The Commish.” Much better ring to it than “Small Ben.”

  111. 111 Casey

    Connmen?

  112. 112 SadPanda

Note that MFWB already is our leading assist man.

  113. 113 Cody

    I vote Commissioner Gordon.

  114. 114 Joe

Come on SadPanda… we’re 15 minutes into the freaking season

  115. 115 J Dre

@Thom- Though he’s no longer in Chicago, I still don’t think anything tops “Air Gordon.”

  116. 116 Cody

Conley just crossed MFWB but missed the shot

  117. 117 brgulker

    Orlando is up on Philly:

100-69 after three quarters. Holy crap.

  118. 118 scntfc

SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT BEN GORDON DOIN TO DEM FOOLS!

  119. 119 Casey

idk anytime we can refer to Michael Chiklis is always awesome.

  120. 120 scntfc

SOMEONE CALLED THAT SCORE SPOT ON FOR THE ORLANDO PHILLY GAME

  121. 121 Jim

Rip and Ray are definitely up there as well. They probably have better releases, but I high BG gets on his jump shot as well as the high arcing shot itself.

And BG hits a 3 as I say this.

  122. 122 Mike Payne

There are a LOT of pretty plays tonight, excellent passing.

  123. 123 Jim

*but I like how high…completely butchered that sentence.

  124. 124 Boney

    FIRST!!!

    BABY EATEN!!!

  125. 125 Cody

OH MY GOD. Maxy palmed the board then threw it the fuck down!

  126. 126 Joe

    AHHHHH MAxiell: 1, Babies: 0

This is why the preseason doesn’t count for SHIT

  127. 127 Sean W.

Poor baby just eaten for dinner.

  128. 128 SadPanda

    First baby eaten of 2009!

  129. 129 Joel

    Mother fucking Barry Gibb.

  130. 130 Terrence Lynch

    Babies consumed: 1

  131. 131 Sean W.

    *got eaten

  132. 132 Joe

Oh shit…. not only is BG7 gunning (literally) for Rip’s job, now he’s taking his crappy local endorsements? The gauntlet is now officially thrown.

  133. 133 TW

    Dr. Rahmani got BG too!

  134. 134 SadPanda

Nice pass to Rip for the layup.

  135. 135 Casey

What is this fast break thing they speak of?

  136. 136 J Dre

Picture perfect finger roll. I’m liking the shot distribution of our guards so far- no one seems to need the ball in their hands every single possession.

  137. 137 Garrett

scntfc: That was me who called the Orlando/Philly score! http://www.detroitbadboys.com/archives/2009-10-27/nba-opening-night/#comment-199292

I missed the baby eater due to lag. :(

  138. 138 brgulker

So Summers isn’t even dressed tonight?

  139. 139 TW

    What happened to CV31?

  140. 140 NinaMo

Big Ben made me cringe when he took that shot lol

  141. 141 SadPanda

CV picked up a couple of early fouls.

  142. 142 Boney

how am I losing to a guy who is starting Rashard Lewis AND Tracy McGrady?

    /fml
/at least I’m not an asshole like br

  143. 143 TDP

Damn right, Coach Q. That’s a Larry Brown timeout right there! Damn, we got gameplans, guys! Curry ruined my perception of what basketball coaching was…

  144. 144 brgulker

Thus far, I’m fine with Chunky Charlie’s butt planted firmly on the bench.

  145. 145 Jim

Cleveland is only down 1 now.

  146. 146 brgulker

/at least I’m not an asshole like br

Yes, you are your a unique asshole, one of kind.

  147. 147 scntfc

    @ Garret
    close enuff!

  148. 148 Mike Payne

This Rudy SCNTFC dude is good at the game of basketball.

  149. 149 Thom

God, I miss George Blaha, especially when I have to listen to these stupid, inept Grizzlies announcers on League Pass. Apparently one tipped rebound justifies them taking DeMarre Carrol over Dejuan Blair (6 pts/6 boards/6 mins played). Also, they dismissed Kuester’s offense, because “anyone can make the Cavs’ offense: just give it to LeBron and get out of the way! I could do that!” HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I’m depressed now.

  150. 150 TDP

Let’s hope the third quarter goes unlike most of those in the pre-season.

  151. 151 scntfc

why is Tay getting torched? do you think his toe is still bothering him?

  152. 152 J Dre

James Harden has 2 points…and a really nice beard. I’m rooting for him.

  153. 153 Quick Darshan

According to the “play by play” on nba.com, there’s some torrid shooting going on right now.

  154. 154 Quick Darshan

According to the “play by play” on nba.com, there’s some torrid shooting going on right now.

  155. 155 Cody

how was that not a travel on gasol?

  156. 156 Joel

    “This Rudy SCNTFC dude…”

    +many

  157. 157 Forty

Just think how far ahead we’d be if we still had AI

  158. 158 Mike Payne

    @brgulker, boney:
What’s the deal? Why the hate for BR, Bone, he’s a good dude, I’m glad he’s a part of this crew.

We need to save our will power for the new douchebags who will eventually come here and mess shit up this season, not our own. Gulks is crew, money.

  159. 159 mannie32

unlike our preseason stats, we only have 2 turnovers at the half
    i like that

  160. 160 Joe

Halftime: Brook Lopez with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and only 1 foul.
He’s the only center in this league who has a chance to compete with Dwight Howard for the next 10 years.

  161. 161 Forty

Is the boney br thing not a joke? I thought they were kidding

  162. 162 Boney

yeah, we should sit Charlie V. on the bench all season and go with a frontcourt of Kwame, Ben, Wilcox and Maxiell (3 guys who you bitched about and said needed to be replaced by overpaid and oft-injured Emeka Okafor).

  163. 163 SadPanda

Lol, Rip isn’t letting the new kid on the block show him up tonight.

  164. 164 TDP

    We got buzzer-beaters, son.

  165. 165 Michael

I know it’s Memphis, but you can’t complain about this start.

  166. 166 Terrence Lynch

Man, I lost the feed. Anywhere else?

  167. 167 Joel

And the link has officially taken a shit. Anybody got a working one? Maybe with Detroit’s announcing crew?

  168. 168 brgulker

@ QD, we’re shooting the lights out, especially BG7.

@ MP: I have no idea why Boney chooses to insult me so much. I had to block him on Twitter because of those insults. I don’t really care, though.

  169. 169 RODNEY_WHITE_LOL

Every league pass announce crew sounds the same. So generic.

Rip looks very sharp. Good to see.

  170. 170 Jim

    Forty +1

Can’t ask for a much better half then that. Good ball movement on offense, good shooting, only 2 TO’s and nice hustle on D.

  171. 171 Thom

This has been great, but it would be so much more satisfying to watch AI dribble around and chuck up WTFadeaways, while his teammates and the 5 Grizzlies fans in attendance look on in horror. I WANT REVENGE.

  172. 172 Terrence Lynch

This is the first game all season Maxiell hasn’t looked like complete shit. That’s a good start.

  173. 173 Garrett

br and boney need to hug it out, I think.

  174. 174 Thom

Also, Celtics are outscoring the Bobcats 21-2 in the 3rd.

  175. 175 Sean W.

    @TL and Joel:

Pretty sure you catch watch this one for free on League Pass broadband.

  176. 176 Joel

Internet feuds are scntfc as hell.

  177. 177 brgulker

Does anyone know how to host a game over Ustream? I realize it would require a TV tuner in one’s computer …

  178. 178 Quick Darshan

From the box score, things look good. My only quibbles are giving up 8 offensive rebounds and Ben having to play 17 minutes. My hope is to see Big Ben play that much in a whole game.

Like the low turnover total though.

  179. 179 Boney

lol @ “I had to block him on twitter, but I don’t care much though”

I haven’t laughed that hard since LawyerBoy told me that Devon Hardin was the answer in the paint for Detroit

  180. 180 brgulker

Pretty sure you catch watch this one for free on League Pass broadband.

Only if you don’t live in MI. It’s balcked out in MI due to FSD’s coverage.

  181. 181 scntfc

    stay in your lane mike

  182. 182 J Dre

Dyess w/ 9 points and 3 rebounds at the half. Glad to see he’s thriving in his new environment. Still sad I could never find a jersey-shirt of his though…stupid NBA Store.

  183. 183 Boney

    @ brgulker

there’s this invention called “cable” or “satellite” for your television (you know, that box with the moving pictures?). On there they’ve got a free league pass preview

  184. 184 wolf blitzer

Just threw the game on– I see Pistons are up by 12 at halftime…what else did I miss. Gordon still has his jumper…Does Payne still listen to Miley Cyrus?

  185. 185 brgulker

Boney, you have repeatedly called me asshole, a clown, and a douchebag on Twitter and here. If you don’t like me or my comments, fine. I don’t give a rip. But the insults are old, tired, and only reveal your immaturity. Yes, I blocked you on Twitter so that your ridiculous and offensive tweets don’t show up on my timeline anymore.

From now on: just ignore me, and I’ll do likewise. I”ll be fine with that.

  186. 186 Boney

    hey @brgulker,

sign up for nba.com, they’re running league pass for free on their website you freaking thief

  187. 187 Quick Darshan

McDyess is a +17 in the first half. The “Right DeJuan” looks like he had a nice 6 minutes.

  188. 188 Mike Payne

    @scntfc:
    stay in your lane mike

Dude, I’m not driving. Drinking and driving is scntfc.

  189. 189 brgulker

I contacted customer support for League Pass today. If you live in MI, then FSD is available to you via cable or sattelite. Hence, blackout rules apply, and MI residents can’t view Pistons games on League Pass.

IF you don’t live in MI, then it doesn’t apply to you.

But don’t take my word for it: http://leaguepasssupport.nba.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=7801&task=search&searchFor=blackout&x=21&y=8

  190. 190 J Dre

Yes, but he has 6 points and 6 rebounds in 6 minutes. 666- sounds like he’s the WRONG DeJuan. I’m glad we passed on him!

  191. 191 wolf blitzer

WHOA WHOA WHOA TIME OUT. Is blocking someone on twitter like taking their ball and going home?

  192. 192 Forty

Somebody invite petey back - I feel like he united our dislike in a common cause

  193. 193 Garrett

Strangely enough, I’m enjoying this Ahmad Rashad/Shaq halftime thing.

  194. 194 Boney

    offensive? lol

    get bent

  195. 195 Mike Payne

    @j dre:
no shit, that’s like 33 points and 33 rebounds in 36 minutes, evil!!!

  196. 196 Joe

    Shoulda held on to Budinger

  197. 197 scntfc

of course he still listens to miley while playing with his labia

  198. 198 Boney

    lol wolf, sorta.

  199. 199 J Dre

@Mike Payne- EXACTLY! I want no part of that otherworldly stat line! He must have sold his soul to the devil- there’s just no other explanation.

  200. 200 Matt Watson

Boney: Pistons games are blacked out on League Pass if you live in MI. And League Pass for TV is only available if you have digital cable (though I’m guessing similar blackout rules apply). Also, chill out.

  201. 201 Quick Darshan

It’s like a royal rumble going on in this thread.

  202. 202 Mike Payne

    @scntfc:
of course he still listens to miley while playing with his labia

That’s not a nice thing to say about your real father.

  203. 203 SadPanda

I really don’t want CV guarding Gasol, or any 7 footer for that matter.

  204. 204 Garrett

Maybe Boney is upset because Amir never did read his pamphlet?

  205. 205 Garrett

I hope CV31 gains the infamous 15 pounds of muscle by the end of the season. Hit the weights, CV!

  206. 206 Boney

    Matt,

So watching league pass games on the internet is not an option?

  207. 207 Mike Payne

I think charges taken should be a recorded stat in NBA basketball.

  208. 208 Jim

    Great move by Stuck

  209. 209 SadPanda

“Count THAT baby and a foul!”

God I missed hearing that over the summer.

  210. 210 Gogol

    Dear Ben Wallace,

Over the years I’ve forgotten how beautiful and brilliant a defender you are. Thank you for reminding me.

    Sincerely,
    -Piston fans.

  211. 211 Thom

I know it’s probably too early to tell, but could Cleveland be the letdown team of the year? They look awful, and their Mike Brown offense is as stagnant as it’s ever been.

  212. 212 scntfc

    How about:
    M.ike
    I.nduces
    K.handors
    E.nema

  213. 213 piñon lopez

    PINON IS BACK!

  214. 214 Sean W.

    @br:

I contacted customer support for League Pass today. If you live in MI, then FSD is available to you via cable or sattelite. Hence, blackout rules apply, and MI residents can’t view Pistons games on League Pass

It’s kind of a bitch of a workaround but… you might be able to get the broadband version by using ip shielding software which can mask your ip and show you as residing somewhere other than MI. Not sure if it will work but it may be worth a try. I had to do that to watch online tv in Canada since our lovely Canadian law prohibited us from watching certain U.S. content online.

  215. 215 Joe

@ Thom: looks like they’re missing Coach Q a bit, huh?

  216. 216 Garrett

    So true, Gogol. So true.
Over the last few years there have been a tonne of really intelligent and articulate debates on what makes a good defender. Ben Wallace is pretty much ending those debates all over again by reminding us how naturally gifted he is as a defender. It helps that he’s a machine, but his timing and instincts are just unreal. And he’s, what, 35 now? I wish he never left.

  217. 217 brgulker

So watching league pass games on the internet is not an option?

No. Read what I posted above. Blackouts apply to online viewing as well. If you live in MI and dno’t have FSD, you are SOL.

  218. 218 Mike Payne

    @scntfc:
    you’re so good with nicknames.

  219. 219 Boney

    Garrett,

I forgot Amir was a Raptor until I saw him tussling with Zydrunas Ilglauskus (misspelled intentionally) on my league pass preview on my cable television programming.

I was also watching the league pass games on nba.com for free as well and saw him.

  220. 220 Thom

    @Joe

Yeah, just a little. Truth be told, I would love to see that team crash and burn. The Schadenfreude I’d get to enjoy (I go to college in Ohio) alone would make it more than worth it.

  221. 221 Forty

Thom - I’ll take the other side of that bet

  222. 222 brgulker

    @ Sean W.

    Here’s my concern with that:

    1) I also play a lot on Xbox Live, and I don’t wanna get banned :)

    2) I run Linux on my main computer … and it’s a hassle.

  223. 223 Joe

Whoa… flashback. I thought I just saw Sheed shoot the 3 for us.

  224. 224 Jim

    CV makes an appearance

  225. 225 Thom

Quote of the night: “RANDOLPH! Oof…”

  226. 226 Quick Darshan

It’s in our best interest though if Cleveland beats Toronto.

  227. 227 Boney

    Exactly Sean W.

or by using web browser loaded through a proxy server

  228. 228 Forty

    Chase utley is awesome

  229. 229 Garrett

    Hey, it’s pinon lopez!

  230. 230 scntfc

I guess If I had a cool name like Mike Payne I wouldn’t need to use them hunh?

  231. 231 Quick Darshan

Is Rudy Gay this year’s Danny Granger?

  232. 232 Mike Payne

I do not like the rebound disparity. Ben can’t run the whole show himself. Frontcourt rebounding is 20-9, advantage Memphis.

  233. 233 Boney
  234. 234 Joe

    4 minutes left in the 3rd, Lopez at 23, 12, 4, and 4… only 2 fouls.

  235. 235 Cody

    nice drive by Charlie V

  236. 236 Shinons

Do Memphis fans call Marc Gasol “Grande Country Reeves”? That would be sweet.

  237. 237 Mike Payne

    Okay Charlie, okay.

  238. 238 Joe

That officially makes Villanueva our leading shot-blocker this year…. hahah

  239. 239 Thom

The Commish returns to dispense justice!

  240. 240 Sean W.

    Another block huh…

  241. 241 Jim

    CV with 2 blocks!

  242. 242 Jim

    CV with 2 blocks!

  243. 243 Forty

Too bad we can’t play memphis every game

  244. 244 Jim

    CV with 2 blocks!

    Defensive player of the year?

  245. 245 scntfc

    bust it open!

  246. 246 NinaMo

Enjoying Iverson’s face on the bench every time the Stones score. :)

  247. 247 J Dre

Is it just me or does it seem like Charlie V really doesn’t want to get hit when he sets his screens? He looks really passive/hesitant and they don’t seem to be very effective. Maybe it’s just me…

  248. 248 SadPanda

    Pistons pulling away.

  249. 249 Thom

    Another block by Chunky Charlie!

  250. 250 Jim

Sorry about the triple post…I’m having some computer issues.

  251. 251 Joe

Who is the victory cigar this year? Daye? Summers? Chuckles?

  252. 252 Gogol

I just had a funny conversation with my fiance. She hates basketball, and was trying to tell me that it was because it’s violent or something ridiculous like that. So I told her it was actually the girliest professional sport around. After all, I said, how many other sports have rainbows, bunnies, and teardrops?

  253. 253 b23

I like it when refs call travelling. It makes me feel like they understand the rules of this game.

  254. 254 Thom

God, these Memphis announcers are whiny.

  255. 255 scntfc

    @NinaMo, priceless

  256. 256 Boney

nice to see Boney Thunderdunk still getting solid contributions from Marc Gasol even though his team is getting schooled.

  257. 257 Jim

    MFWB…more driving, less jumpers.

  258. 258 Mike Payne

In other news, apparently Sam Bernstein has been humping his cousins. His kids look straight retaaahhded.

  259. 259 b23

And it strikes me that what Memphis needs — really, really needs — is someone to deform the Pistons defense.

  260. 260 J Dre

    @Gogol- That’s good- I chuckled.

  261. 261 Joe

@ MP, ever think Bernstein looks like Larry Brown?

Also, the really funny looking one, Richard, is supposed to be a really, REALLY good attorney… like, graduated top of his class, and is really good.

  262. 262 Mike Payne

    That’s three blocks for Villa.

[edit– ignore the white, i logged in to see if DBB was getting hit with a bunch of comments at once, hence the wait on comments going through]

  263. 263 TDP

Some nice DEFENSE by CV31 in the second half.

  264. 264 J Dre

@MP and Joe- I heard the “really funny looking one, Richard,” is blind. Sounds like a true balla’.

  265. 265 Other Matt

    I think b23 wins.

  266. 266 Jim

I think Gordon might fit in better then AI

  267. 267 TDP

I’m lazy… How many points did Gordon average in the 4th quarter last season?

  268. 268 Thom

Real quote of the night: “And Lionel Hollins is hoppin’ mad!”

  269. 269 Shinons

You know, RC Buford kinda looks like Dwight Schrute.

  270. 270 Boney

I won’t say “i told you so” to anyone about CV’s defense OR

Rip and Ben Gordon carrying this team, even though we have a “logjam”

  271. 271 Other Matt

Yeah, this legitimate and real scoring coming from the bench is a little confusing to me. I’m not quite old enough to remember the Microwave. Is this what he was like?

  272. 272 J Dre

Can Rip’s name finally be taken out of trade talks now? It seems to me the 4 guard rotation is working just fine. Time to throw Tayshaun under the bus!!!

  273. 273 Joe

One of the best things about long jumpers by a guy like Gordon is offensive rebounds

  274. 274 Mike Payne

    @Boney:
I won’t say “i told you so” to anyone about CV’s defense OR

Rip and Ben Gordon carrying this team, even though we have a “logjam”

Good. Because that would be retarded. Some LawyerBoy-type shit.

  275. 275 Casey

So how many blowout wins did we have last year? Two? Three? Feels good to be done with Curryball.

  276. 276 Joe

JDre- Prince straight up for Kaman

  277. 277 Skylar

I love how the Youngbloods are suspended. That’s some badboy shit right there.

MFWB with the reverse, Rip looks silly with the bald dome. I love watching the Pistons, even during a blowout.

  278. 278 Boney

c’mon now Payne… you and I both know that successful teams have solid depth at the key positions (see: Spurs).

    But yeah, you’re right…

Rip and BG killing it though, you can’t deny it.

  279. 279 Mike Payne

    4 turnovers, btw.

  280. 280 Joe

    Great hands by Kwame….. hahaha.

No, I’m sure it was the 5 rolls of tape.

  281. 281 TDP

    @ Casey:

No kidding. Coach Q’s style does remind me of Larry Brown, though. Calling timeouts when the momentum was seemingly shifting or if there was a total lapse on either end of the court… Good stuff. Much better than the let-them-play-fru-it of Curry.

  282. 282 J Dre

@Joe- Sure. Make it happen! (I assume this is Joe Dumars, right?)

  283. 283 brgulker

Good. Because that would be retarded. Some LawyerBoy-type shit.

It’s awesome to see us playing so well. But two things.

    1) We’re playing the Grizz.

    2) Rip and BG won’t shoot this well everynight. We can’t rely on two jumpshooters to carry us for 82 games …

But yeah, we’re playing very, very good ball.

  284. 284 Boney

nice to see David Lee earning his paycheck for Team Thunderdunk tonight…

  285. 285 Mike Payne

I love the George Blaha laugh, “conley, batted away by, ha, will bynum hehehe”. In other words, “this kid is unreal!”

  286. 286 Joe

Haha, don’t I wish… one of my old ideas was Tay, Kwame, and Bynum for Kaman, Thornton, and Telfair.

But if Joe D could get Kaman for Prince straight up, I think Kaman is one of the most talented and underrated centers in the league.

  287. 287 Boney

For someone that wants me to stop talking about them, you sure aren’t taking a dose of your own medicine br.

  288. 288 gblaha

I love how the cavs lost again, I hope this shuts up espn

  289. 289 andyfrombrooklyn

blowouts are nice and so are winning records and i guess rip is still a piston.

  290. 290 Shinons

nice to see David Lee earning his paycheck for Team Thunderdunk tonight…

I’m living pretty happy with my Gallo sleeper pick.

  291. 291 Joe

Whoa…. best stat of the night: Boston held Charlotte to 59.

  292. 292 Boney

John Kuester looks like a kid toucher..

I wonder if Mike Abdenour is responsible for maintaining the lollipop inventory

  293. 293 andyfrombrooklyn

cavs still in a funk about it all.

  294. 294 Joe

    @Boney LOL

  295. 295 bmr007

As impressive as Gordon has been tonight, I must say Kwame has looked almost as good. He epic failed on one of his drives, but he was extremely active on the boards. Even though the box score doesn’t show it, I think he definitely had a big impact on a lot of the offensive rebounds.

Ben Wallace must have some effect on him, he looks so much more confident and seems to have a sense of pride now.

  296. 296 b23

Can we bring in some Swedish Fish (that saved Pittsburgh) now?

  297. 297 Other Matt

At this point, I hope there are more questionable calls so that I can listen to the Grizzlies announcers bitch some more. Wait, no I don’t.

  298. 298 andyfrombrooklyn

blownleads and no blowouts equals the curry year.

  299. 299 Shinons

John Kuester looks like a kid toucher..

    Eh, he’s no Brad Childress.

  300. 300 Joe

Actually, Boney… now that I think about it, with that mustache, Arnie Kandor probably drives the window-less van.

  301. 301 Thom

Marc Gasol has to be pissed at… everyone else on the Grizzlies right now. He’s been beastly. Makes the Thabeet pick look even dumber (along with his amazing 0 point, 1 rebound performance tonight).

  302. 302 Joel

Has anyone else watched the YouTube videos of Kaman and friends’ hijinx at his house in Michigan over the Fourth of July? I want him on this team BAAAAD. He’s straight middle-of-the-mitten hick, and I love it. Anyone who buys non-working cars for the sole purpose of shooting them with military grade automatic weapons with their friends sounds like a good pickup to me.

Of special note is the fireworks video– at one point, they tie together 15 or so mortars laying loose on the ground. They then proceed to light said mortars. What ensues is straight out of a Michael Bay film. I am all for a Tay/Kaman swap.

  303. 303 Terrence Lynch

Chunky Charlie led us in blocks. How about that?

  304. 304 Boney

    Joe,

You can’t tell me that you haven’t seen a guy that looks like John Kuester driving a late model, gold colored chevy caprice with 3 hubcaps, handing out lollipops to the 7 year olds at the bus stop.

    haha

  305. 305 Dinosaur

I’m making my first ever DBB post to say: the whiny Memphis announcers are actually right about that last call on Mayo.

But their love for Marc Gasol is getting creepy.

  306. 306 Other Matt

Shaq was a whopping -25 in 25 minutes. Cleveland got killed by the high pick and roll last year and their response was to go out and get Shaq. Ridiculous. They have no chance of beating Orlando or a healthy Boston in a 7 game series.

  307. 307 chandragupta

I know they only played Sacramento, but look at the numbers of OKC’s 3 young players:

    Westbrook 14 pts, 13 Ast, 7 rbs
    Durant 25 pts, 11 rbs
    Green 25 pts, 8 Rbs, 3 BS

That is pretty sick. They have some potential this year if other players can perform.

  308. 308 andyfrombrooklyn

i am really enjoying this box score.

  309. 309 Casey

Anytime you can take a guy who only plays 6 minutes on a terrible team with the second overall pick, you gotta do it, right?

  310. 310 Mike Payne

    @joel:
I mentioned that in the last thread, but had a different opinion on it. I don’t want anyone who earns $10+ million a year shooting 50 caliber guns and lighting professional-grade firebombs. It makes Monta Ellis’ moped accident look like a hangnail.

Anyone who does that shit doesn’t deserve to be earning 8 figures, let alone 7.

All that aside, it is f#cking cool as hell!

  311. 311 Jim

It’s too bad Daye and Jerebko are suspended…this would have been a good game to get some PT.

  312. 312 Joe

OK, here’s the proposal I’m emailing directly to Dumars (hahaha….)

Kaman and Thornton for Kwame and Tayshaun.

    It’s perfect.

  313. 313 Kriz

Aw come on, Summers is in street clothes?

  314. 314 Gogol

Good prediction, Pistons.com. This IS a scary Grizz team.

Pistons - “The Cancer” - Curry = good team.

  315. 315 Jonathan

Might have to drop Stuckey from my fantasy roster.

  316. 316 scntfc
  317. 317 Thom

Nice little pirouette lay-in by Wilcox

  318. 318 Joe

Anyone else feel the real refs completely kick the ass of the fakes we dealt with all preseason?

  319. 319 b23

    Oh. Forgot about the suspensions.

  320. 320 b23

    I’m happy.

  321. 321 b23

Plus, the Phillies are up 2-0. And CC no longer looks indestructible, which is a major mental victory for Philadelphia.

  322. 322 Mike Payne

The Right Dejuan started his NBA Career with a double double in 22 minutes. 14/11/3.

  323. 323 Jim

We won by 24 tonight. Last year our biggest margin of victory was 27 and the next highest was 17. I know it’s the Grizz, but it’s definitely a good sign.

  324. 324 TDP

    Bah. F*ck DeJuan Blair.

  325. 325 Garrett

I hope when we play San Antonio, Maxiell eats DeJuan’s babies.

  326. 326 Terrence Lynch

Not really a whole lot to be upset about tonight. CV didn’t contribute much, but he looked good defensively in the second half. However, he needs to grab a lot more than one board while he’s in the game, which led to a big difference in rebounding.. The team looked pretty good defensively after letting the Grizz shoot over 50% in the first quarter.

The biggest thing was the effort. This team really fought and didn’t take many possessions off. I think it’s why we were able to get such an easy win, unlike last year’s team. And we also did a good job putting our boot to their throat in the 4th. So many games were lost by terrible 4th quarter execution.

  327. 327 Gabe

Damn, really wish I’d been able to watch this game. Sounds like we played great.

  328. 328 King Cake

One - Ben Wallace is Plato. Kwame Brown is Aristotle!

Two - The Right Dejuan is everything Kendrick Perkins wishes he could be. I R impressed.

Three - Charlie V. = Basketball Brendan Frasier from Bedazzled (With a shaved head). And It boggles my mind watching that dude play! Seems like he should just be standing under the net jumping up and down and muttering to himself.

Four - I need to meet Chris Kaman!

  329. 329 Diablo

    I hate night classes…

  330. 330 Cody

Gosh dang. The right DeJaun grabs a double double, while the wrong one doesn’t even play even though he’s our only other SF for the game.

  331. 331 joejoejoe

    Motown Huskies!

  332. 332 Quick Darshan

The Wrong DaJuan couldn’t play because two slots were taken away by the suspension. The Pistons were only allowed to dress 10.

  333. 333 Joel

I get the feeling watching CV that he’s just pressing a little bit. He got the first big contract of his career and he wants to prove he’s worth it– i.e. probably putting a little too much pressure on himself. The blocked shots were great though. Pudgy as he may be, dude’s got serious hops and appears to have decent timing too. Missing out on a large chunk of the preseason didn’t help much either, but I think once his jumper’s start falling, we’ll see a much more rounded effort from the Hairless Wonder.

My one (minor) beef with the game tonight– why does Wilcox only play 6 minutes? Especially with the game basically in hand for the entire 4th quarter. In the very little time he played he immediately picked up a couple boards, made a nice interior pass, and finished a very pretty alley-oop layup. Plus I think he looks great with his high white socks– and I mean that in a totally non-scntfc way.

  334. 334 scntfc

so do you mean it any a mary poopins way Joel?

  335. 335 brgulker

    Joel,

My one (minor) beef with the game tonight– why does Wilcox only play 6 minutes?

I’d say Ben Wallace was the reason.
