The Thuns are coming off a convincing home win against the Kings on Wednesday, which is approximately as impressive as Detroit’s thrashing of Memphis. In that game, the starting five logged heavy minutes (Kevin Durant and Jeff Green combined for 81).
Holding any team to 89 points is impressive, so the Pistons can expect some tough defense tonight. They can also expect a shallow bench, since, well, that’s what the Thunder bring to the table. Given Kevin Martin’s performance on Wednesday, you’d like to see Rip Hamilton suit up.
The Pistons, though, have won five straight at home against the Thunder, and I’m not sure this team can lock down Detroit’s suddenly potent offense.
The Drama:
This is a good “are you for real?” test for both teams. OKC is a sleeper playoff team on some radars (but not mine), while the Pistons may be the biggest unknown quantity in the league.
Keys for Detroit
Crash the boards: Detroit beat Memphis in spite of a horrendous performance on the boards. OKC is not a particularly great rebounding team, so we need to make some headway here.
Force Westbrook into turnovers: Russell Westbrook had a monstrously efficient game because he was allowed to run the offense unscathed. Is he the new Rajon Rondo? Not tonight, hopefully.
Do something cool: The Pistons have an opportunity to present some intriguing lineups, and force some unpleasant defensive switches. Let’s see what this roster can do.

You know what’s awesome about League Pass this year? They show both feeds of the game if available. So tonight, the Detroit feed AND the OKC feed are available on their own channels with LP. This means Blaha and Kelser all 82 games (and not having to listen to the Boston homers or Clyde Frazier calling a player “ubiquitous” 103rd time).
Blaha is the best, and I really don’t think it’s because I’m a Pistons fan. It could partially be attributed to the toupee comeover. Seriously, how many dudes sport both a toupee AND a comeover? Blaha rocks.

Both Ben’s were freaking beasts. Gordon hit shot after shot. Big Ben made a hell of a lot of defensive stops. No one else made ANY defensive stops in the 2nd half.
If I were the coach, here’s what I’d do after this game: I’d go home, drink some rum and watch old Benny Hill videos until sweet sleep came and took me away.
I think people have to realize that this team is going to be very up and down. 8 new players. A new head coach. Going from one of the oldest teams in the league to the youngest. This is basic rebuilding. We’re going to grow as the season goes along. But we’re going to be very inconsistent. Probably more than last season. Doesn’t mean we’ll be worse than last season, but we will need time to grow and develop.

Overall: What I found most frustrating was how reminiscent tonight was of Curry’s midget-grind-ball. We had a relatively small line-up on the court most of the game, and we did nothing to speed up the pace. Also, what’s with zero minutes for Wilcox and Jerebko, and almost zero for Daye? Jod’s already admitted this is a rebuilding year, why not spread the minutes around a little more?
Totally missed the second half. Which I see might have been a good thing. Fortunately, I’m all caught up on the Mike Payne love fest.

Missed the final minutes (getting ready for a wedding) but my observations and analysis for what I did see are this:
1. Stuck was inefficient. He was also given a raw deal by the refs and lost his composure, thus making some poor decisions. He has the game, he just needs to put it together.
2. Our defense was hot and cold, probably in line with Big Ben’s minutes.
3. CV needs to make his presence felt more on offense and make better decisions with the ball. He desperately needs to work on his defense, it was atrocious.
4. We will lose more games than we will win if our only comeback strategy is to ride BG in the 4th.
5. Big Ben was a stud. If he wasn’t playing it would have been a blowout.
6. In no way is this team worse than last years. To my eyes our tempo was was excellent for such a guard focused offense. Kuester seems to understand the strengths and weaknesses of small ball.
7. No Batman symbols.
It’s a long season and every issue with tonights game is correctable. Stuckey needs to relax and not force his game when it’s not flowing. He also needs to be cut some slack, the guy is in his third season and will figure out the mental side of the game. Give him time.

We maintain this by a tough system of checks and balances, which involves razzing someone when they have a dumb comment.
