Jason Maxiell's Wife had Ovarian Cancer

HEARTWARMING STORY: E! Entertainment Television aired its 'E! True Hollywood Story: Basketball Wives' documentary during All-Star weekend, and the Brandi and Jason Maxiell segment tugged at the heart. The Pistons forward dated Brandi through high school and college. She was at North Texas, and he went to Cincinnati. Eighteen months after Maxiell was drafted by the Pistons in 2005, they got engaged. While planning the wedding, the two found out Brandi had ovarian cancer. In the fall of 2007, she went to Dallas to start chemotherapy. She lost her hair during treatment, and as a sign of support for the woman he loved, Maxiell shaved his head. "I felt like I was trapped in someone else's body," Brandi said of the hair loss during the interview. "When you lose your hair, you are a cancer patient, and we all look alike whether you are black or white. "Jason had a game the next night on TV, and his head was completely bald." After four cycles of chemo, doctors told Brandi her cancer was in remission. "I love her to death, and I always will," Maxiell said. Woah. I never realized this. Could this explain some of Maxiell's "inconsistent" play over the last year? I know I might have trouble concentrating if my wife was battling cancer.

Maxiell’s gas guzzlers

Jason Maxiell talks about his rides -- including a '70 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, a '73 Chevy Caprice, an '89 Camaro and a Ford F-450 -- are over at MotorTrend.com. Yeah, it's fluff, but his...

Has Jerebko passed Maxiell?

While discussing Jonas Jerebko last week, I tempered my praise with the following disclaimer: I still don’t see how he could possibly get regular minutes (unless you sit Maxiell or Wilcox, he’s the...

Jason Maxiell is a bad man

Jason Maxiell has played only four years in the NBA, but that's enough for Kelly Dwyer to rank him the fourth-best dunker of the decade -- ahead of guys like Josh Smith and LeBron James. On a side...

McDyess may (eventually) start

From Chris McCosky: Should Antonio McDyess be starting for the Pistons? The question came up after practice Thursday and coach Michael Curry admitted it was something he and his staff were...

Big men blame

One explanation for Detroit's decline that hasn't been talked about all that much: every big man not named Antonio McDyess has taken a step back. I don't agree with all of the points raised in that...

Blakely: Change likely coming

MLive's A. Sherrod Blakely suspects a lineup change is coming: Detroit Pistons coach Michael Curry hasn't decided when he will make a lineup change. But if a change is made -- and there's a very...

Jason Maxiell: DNP-CD … again

The Pistons are 0-4 every time Jason Maxiell gets a DNP-CD. They've been out-rebounded in each of those games by an average of 7; most of the damage has come on the offensive glass, where they've...

Whither Maxiell? cont.

Need4Sheed on Sunday's game: "DNP Jason Maxiell…..and Kwame and Walter Herrmann. Amir Johnson got eight minutes of floor time but I would love it if someone can explain Curry’s rotation schemes. At...

A gift for Maxiell

I think I found Jason Maxiell's Christmas gift. (Yes, even I'm a little creeped out by this.)
