Drunken moose gang menaces Stockholm resident

1

Get ready for the season of drunken moose. As ripe fruit falls from the trees and ferments on the ground, it is time for some of Sweden’s most majestic wild animals to act in a most un-regal manner. One home owner east of Stockholm, the capital, has already been confronted by a mob of boozed-up moose. The five animals, feasting on rotten windfalls, "were threatening" and refused to let him into his garden. "Sensibly enough the (moose) left the scene when police arrived," writes Albin Näverberg on Stockholm police’s website. To prevent further moose booze-binges the home owner, who lives in Värmdö, east of Stockholm, was advised to remove the apples from his yard. "The (moose) will have to get drunk somewhere else," writes Näverberg.

Jonas Jerebko Will Be Detroit's Best Small Forward

4
Jerebko played mostly power forward this season, and he may well work best as a stretch 4 who hits enough 3s, cuts hard, and defends well enough. He'll get time there, too, with Detroit working in two project centers beside budding All-Star Greg Monroe. But Jerebko may well be the best small forward on a roster of oddly fitting parts. Tayshaun Prince is in decline, and last season worked too often as if he were a legit no. 1 option. Maggette is Maggette — a free throw machine who does little else, on either end. Detroit fans openly hate Charlie Villanueva, and it's unclear if he can even get on the floor in the NBA now. The Pistons have no clue what position Austin Daye plays anymore. 85-year-old woman wields shovel to stop moose stomping

An agitated moose ran down and stomped a well-known Bush pilot from Willow, but he was saved when his wife grabbed a shovel from their pickup truck and whacked the big animal until it backed off. http://www.adn.com/2012/01/22/2277726/wife-stops-moose-stomping-with.html

SI's Zach Lowe on Greg Monroe's monster season

32
Greg Monroe is having a monster season. The numbers are ridiculous: • Monroe is fifth in the league in Player Efficiency Rating, and one of the guys ahead of him (Manu Ginobili) will soon fall off the leader board due to a lack of minutes. • He is shooting 59.7 percent from the floor. Only Nene shot better last season. • He has rebounded 14.4 percent of Detroit’s misses, an offensive rebounding rate that would have led the entire league last season. • He has assisted on 19.4 percent of Detroit’s baskets while on the floor Among players 6-foot-9 or taller, only Hedo Turkoglu and Brad Miller posted higher assist rates last season. One of those guys isn’t a traditional big man, and the other barely eked out 1000 minutes. http://nba-point-forward.si.com/2012/01/13/big-man-greg-monroe-has-quietly-become-a-force-in-detroit/

Why won’t Pistons announcers use Monroe’s nickname, Moose?

2
John (Westland, Mich.): Why won’t Pistons announcers use Monroe’s nickname, Moose? The fans are using it? Langlois: Pistons coaches and his teammates use it, John, but I haven’t sensed much enthusiasm for "Moose" among fans. The acquisition of a nickname is usually an organic process – it has to happen on its own. And sometimes, the nickname a player comes to be known by in public is different than what he’s known by in the smaller circles of his friends or teammates. Magic Johnson’s teammates didn’t call him Magic, for instance, at least not when they were in their world. To the Lakers of the ’80s, he was Buck. I’m not sure any nickname will ever catch on with Monroe. He just doesn’t seem like a nickname kind of guy. Pistons Mailbag - Thursday, February 10, 2011
