From the Philadelphia Inquirer (via Full-Court Press):
The NBA announced today that 76ers head coach Maurice Cheeks has been fined $25,000 for verbal abuse of the officials and for not leaving the court and going directly to the lockerroom at the conclusion of Wednesday's 105-88 loss to the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
"It was an error in judgment by me and like my mother said, they have the upper hand and just abide by the rules," Cheeks said.
Cheeks has had few conflicts this season with officials. He was called for only three technical fouls during the regular season and none since Jan. 2.
Neither Cheeks or any of the Sixers players has been called for a technical foul in each of the first two playoff games.
If he's going to complain, wouldn't it make sense to do it during the game when a) his players might step up to play after seeing their coach get fired up; and b) the refs still have time to offer a make-up call or two? Just saying.
