Pistons can't even give away season tickets

Remember that free cheering section the Pistons hoped to create? The original plan was for the team to hold an audition in which they'd select 50 of the loudest, craziest fans to receive free, lower-bowl tickets for all 41 home games. Except, well ... hardly anyone cared enough to show up.

Neil Rubin of the Detroit News explains:

More than 300 people registered to try out for the Detroit Pistons' new 50-person spirit section, the Power Plant.

Exactly 11 of them showed up at the audition Wednesday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills, which is not very peppy. But this is a cheer squad, so you have to look on the bright side: Those 11 people have a very, very good chance of making the cut.

The Pistons will apparently hold "on-the-spot auditions" at Friday's exhibition game to help fill out the section. Here's to hoping fans simply didn't hear about the audition (maybe they could have gotten the word out if they televised more preseason games, huh?) and aren't just apathetic.
