LOS ANGELES -- During David Stern's press conference Saturday, Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press asked for the commissioner's general thoughts on Tom Gores, who seems to be in final stages of negotiations with Karen Davidson to buy the Detroit Pistons.
"I’m going to catch up with Mr. Gores either tonight or tomorrow to say hi," Stern said. "I met with him at my offices where he met with our entire senior staff and we know that there are very intense negotiations going on which are in their final stages, which means either there will be a deal or there won’t be a deal within the next week.
"And every indication is that there will be a deal, and we’ll see how that goes."
The commish didn't have too much to say, but the fact that he's already met with him once and expects to see him again soon is somewhat encouraging that this drawn-out process might soon come to an end. The final sale price, which will include all of Palace Sports & Entertainment's properties, including Pine Knob DTE Energy Music Theatre, is expected to top $400 million.
