When the Clippers came to town on Monday night, Pistons fans had an opportunity to welcome back Chauncey Billups, now a Clipper currently in "street clothes" due to injury. Announced by Mason before the game anyway, B-B-B-Billups received the loudest cheers of anyone, and deservedly so.
During the game, Billups was interviewed by Ryan Field on Fox Sports Detroit and Billups reiterated what he told the media before the game:
"Doesn't matter if we win it this year, next year - I will always be a Piston"
Reading Billups quotes about how he's a lifetime Piston didn't hit me like it did seeing and hearing him say it on my television screen. It gave me goosebumps and it pissed me off at the same time.
It would've been nice for the Pistons to try to bring Billups back over the summer after unceremoniously sending him off to Denver two games into the season four years ago. But it sounds like even if they wanted to, for the developmental sake of Brandon Knight, Billups has moved on.
