Ben Gordon part of Great Britain's preliminary roster for 2012 Olympics

Some forget that Ben Gordon is from London, even though he doesn't sound like it, and we've had several FanShots on DBB in the past about Gordon possibly playing for Great Britain during the offseason. Well, it looks as if he's finally going to get that chance, as the preliminary roster for this summer includes Gordon's name [H/T PistonPowered]:

Gordon has voiced his desire to be part of the British Basketball programme for a number of years, and visited the team during the 2011 EuroBasket qualifiers but has yet to step on court for his country, primarily as a result of some unfortunate injuries. Today’s announcement confirms his commitment to the side; Gordon commented: "I am very excited to pull on the GB jersey this summer and play for my country. To be invited into camp is the first step in that journey and I am immensely proud to have the opportunity.

Gordon has missed some time due to injuries this season and expressed at the All-Star break that he was looking forward to resting some of his bumps and bruises, but this news suggests any lingering injury issues are behind. Jonas Jerebko is not playing in the European Qualifiers this summer, so he can go through a structured training program to continue to build up strength after his achilles surgery last year.
