Lindsey Hunter, who has been bouncing around the NBA personnel ranks since leaving the Detroit Pistons has been named interim coach of the Phoenix Suns. Hunter replaces former Pistons head coach Alvin Gentry, who was fired after five years with the Suns.
Hunter had been serving as director of player development in Phoenix before he was tabbed as head coach for the remainder of the season.
The Suns are a mess and if he can get anything out of them it would be a minor miracle. This is how the Associated Press encapsulated the situation in Phoenix:
The Suns, with nine new players on their roster this season, have lost 13 of 15, including four straight at home, and at 13-28 have the worst record in the Western Conference. They don't play again until Wednesday, when they face the Kings in Sacramento. Hunter's home debut will come Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, who have the West's second-best record at 32-9.
