Jerry Stackhouse joining Fox Sports Detroit as analyst

Former Piston Jerry Stackhouse is joining old teammate Mateen Cleaves at FOX Sports Detroit [via Freep]:

"After 18 years in the NBA, I’m excited about this new phase of my career," Stackhouse said in a released statement. "My five seasons in Detroit were a great period of growth for me personally and professionally. It’s terrific to come back to the Motor City and join the Fox Sports Detroit team."

Stackhouse starts on Sunday's 'Pistons Live' at 9 p.m. before the Pistons tip off against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Stack's best season in the NBA was the first year after Grant Hill in 2000-2001 when he averaged nearly 30 points (on 24 shots and 10 free throws!) per game. Second only to he who shall not be named. It was admittedly a nice coping mechanism to losing Hill, but the losing stung.

Stackhouse would take more than 600 (!) fewer shots and thus, regress horribly the next year, as new coach Rick Carlisle came in and turned the Pistons into more than just a one-man show. The team was flipped around, from 32-50 to 50-32. The Pistons drafted Tayshaun Prince in June 2002 and signed Chauncey Billups in July, and Stackhouse was shipped out a couple months later, bringing in return the beginning of the Richard Hamilton era.

Stackhouse was not missed.

He's back now, though, almost 10 years later, and he'll get to talk to viewers about Joe Dumars' shoot-happy free-agent acquisitions.
