NBA rumors: Larry Drew, Bucks agree to 3-year deal

Here's to hoping you weren't too excited about those "Pistons impressed by Larry Drew" rumors, because he was just hired by the Milwaukee Bucks. Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news (of course), beating Milwaukee's own Gery Woelfel by a single minute:

Woj reports that Drew received a three-year deal with a team option for a fourth (which, really, is the de facto contract all head coaches get these days). No dollar amounts have been reported yet. Drew has a 128-102 career coaching record (.557), taking the Hawks to the playoffs each of the last three years -- and into the second round once.

Update: It's official. From the Bucks' press release:

“We are pleased to reach an agreement with Larry Drew to become head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks,” said Hammond. “After a thorough search and interview process, it was clear to us that Larry’s track record in Atlanta, along with his experience as an assistant coach and player, make him the right choice to lead our club. We look forward to what he will bring to this franchise and we welcome him and his family to Milwaukee.”

There was reportedly mutual interest between the Pistons and Drew, but he accepted Milwaukee's offer without even interviewing with Detroit. Drew lost his job in Atlanta after former Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer, who interviewed twice with the Pistons, was hired by the Hawks.

Nate McMillan and Mo Cheeks remain the apparent leaders for the Pistons' vacant job, although Pacers assistant (and Phil Jackson protégé) Brian Shaw may sneak into the picture whenever Indiana's playoff run comes to an end.
